Go to settings/sound/ and select haptic feedback. That will make your keys vibrate again.
thank you so much
regarding the lagfix do i need? and which one is the best to apply, also for clock work do i need for flashing the custom roms and the themes
Try the speedmod kernal. That includes ClockWorkMod recovery. And I recommend changing all to EXT4 because its the fastest safe choice.

I just purchased a galaxy tab from craigslist for $265. It's in mint condition with box, cables, charger, and manual. Its the T-mobile version. How do I root the tab or unlock it in order to customize and reap all the possible benefits of the open platform? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

z4root. That will root your tab. Also in the Android Development section there should be directions on how to root and flash custom roms.
problem with gps receiver
Please help!
i 've got my tab last week. GPS receiver was working very fine. My Navi found many satelites after few seconds. After upgrading firmware with kies to version
band : P1000XXJMF
kernel : 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1
build: FROYO.XXJMG
my navigation-programs do not receice any gps signal. I manually deactivated and then activated gps receiver, but it couldn't help. The gsp symbol did not appear on the status bar!
I replaced all the gps related files with the files from xda thread "how to improve gps performance"
(all files from "TAB GPS FIX") without success. Program gps aid from android market showed no gps data. I didn't write out the old version before upgrading so i don't know what version it was on the TAB. My question is where can I find the previous firmware version for my SGT-P1000 EUR or is there any fix for this issue? Sorry for my bad English!

This is how you root the Tmobile Tab Permanently
I. Before You Begin
1. This will root the Samsung Galaxy Tab so you can load root required apps on to the device.
2. This will also allow you to flash a custom recovery image once you are done.
II. Sync with Kies
1. Download the Samsung Kies Software from here and install it to your computer.
2. Open Kies
3. Connect your device to your computer via USB cable.
4. Unplug the Tab.
5. Go to Settings > Applications > Development > and check USB Debugging ON.
6. Plug the Tab back in via USB cable and leave Kies open. It should try to connect to it this time and start installing drivers.
7. Once it installs the drivers, close Kies (regardless of whether it actually connected to the device or not).
III. Root it Using SuperOneClick
1. Download the SuperOneClick App from here.
2. Extract the SuperOneClick .zip file.
3. With the phone still plugged in from Section II, right click the SuperOneClick app and Run As Administrator (if no such option exists, just click Open).
3. When it opens, click on Root and wait 5 minutes for it to finish.
4. Once it is done, you are rooted. Enjoy!

Hi perigo, it's probably a better idea to start your own thread rather than hijacking someone else's that was discussing a totally different issue.
Anyway, you should be able to find your Tab's firmware here: http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-p1000.htm (it seems that registration is needed, it's free though). You should however know what you are doing. Some people have managed to brick their Tabs by messing up on their flashing procedures. Do some reading around to get some confidence on what you are doing before attempting a re-flash. Having done that, if still in doubt, don't feel shy to ask - the community here is great!

Thanks for the advice. I found this information a few weeks ago, and I am now rooted while running the overcome 1.4.0 ROM with Rotohammers modem switcher. This forum is full of helpful advice, and I am now addicted to searching for more customization options.
Hi Guys,
I was recommended to you by a good friend of mine. I recently pyrchased a Samsung Galaxy S mobile phone, and i must say what a great phone, i had had it for a couple of days and want to root it it currently runs 2.1 eclair is it ? and was given a file to download that contains 2 files one telling you how to root and other with root file which is ( z4root.1.3.0.apk ) now ihave already conected usb cable and have done this so far -
Gone into applications and checked unknown sources box!
Then gone into development and checked the usb debugging box!
now where it tells me to put root file into memory card via usb ! now this is where we get stuck dont know how to put root file into memory card and it should go into into internal memory not external ??
just need help and advice on what to do next so i can root my mob and know that i am in the right place for this advice .
Thanking you all in advance.
Saluti

You can use Z4root for rooting 2.1 & 2.2 only.
For rooting 2.2.1 and above you must need a computer. Re-install the USB drivers and check it again.
hi thanks for that mine is 2.1 so why is my mob showing up on lappy when i connect with usb cable ?
Why you're still on Eclair 2.1? Very Strange......
I'd say first update it to 2.2.1 of your region. There is a hell of performance/speed difference in 2.2.1 & 2.1.
Why do you want to root it?
i still dont know why my lappy not seeing my mob when connected to each other ?
You need to download samsung kies this will install the drivers for your laptop to recognise your device. If i were you I would not root at all incase anything happens to your device. Download kies, update your phone and then do A LOT of reading about root.

Yep kies can be downloaded from samsung website. Or google it which will get you to the direct samsung download website somehow. When you install Kies it will install the drivers, then you can connect your phone by USB to the PC.
Yes, on 2.1. it is a bit slow (what you describe as "freeze"). If you upgrade the firmware with Kies to 2.2.1 it will be faster so you really should do that.
Why not root a phone? That's easy to answer as all the guides say here in the forums:
you should only root if:
- you know what rooting is and what it's for
- if you actually really need root (most apps won't)
why should you not root:
- "it sounds like it's something I need but I have no idea why"
- rooting requires flashing (depending on ROM) and that can "bricK" your phone (one way or the other), forcing you to get a Jig (in one of the better results) or send it in for repair (in the very worst case ever)
- rooting a phone can potentially damage your phone (by user error or by malicious apps, just think of what that dude did to jailbreaked iphones in the Netherlands once).
I'm a total Linux noob but I claim to know the difference between a limited user account and a super user (as it is similar in Windows).
So I know I have access to the system files on the phone and I know I could mess up my whole phone and break it if I mess around with these files.
Personally, I did not root my phone until I really had needs for that (such as Titanium backup). As said, many apps won't even need root access.
Anyways, do what I did: start reading those guides, they might be long, some not so newbie friendly and there are quite too many duplicates (kind of) but they contain a lot that is good to know before trying some more advanced stuff. This really saved my phone on the very first flashing already! Do some selective reading.
Should you really have needs for rooting after all that reading and only want to root but no other changes (yet) I suggest using CF-Root by Chainfire as that is a stock kernel (part of a ROM), so basically it just adds root and that's it (needs to be flashed so better read those guides).

I noticed on your first post you checked the debugging, go to settings applications development and uncheck debugging then open kies then connect phone with usb, kies should then install the drivers and it should tell you there is a firmware update which will hopefully give you 2.2.1, then you can disconnect phone, close kies, go back into development and check debugging, connect phone to pc and on phone pull down the information bar and select to copy files to your pc, then you can see your phone as a external drive. Hope this helps and works

Sounds like you dont have installed the Nexus S drivers for your device, as thats how your computer identifies the phone with CM7 installed.
hi
i follow the tuto in wiki and after the step of installation of clockworldmod odin don't detect the phone
my computer detect usb storage mode and kies don't detect phone
i really appreciate CM7 but doesnt work with apn of my operator

If you Google your operator name as well as APN (for example, "Verizon APN") you will likely find the settings for your operator. Then, you can manually add the APN to your phone (Settings -> Wireless & Network -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> *Menu Button* -> New APN).
And as the first poster mentioned, you need to install the Nexus S drivers in order for Odin to recognize your device. A quick Google search should give you a download link, although I'm sure they're also in the wiki.
