Just made the switch from ubuntu 10.10 to windows 7, didnt have issues using my cappy as a mass storage device on ubuntu
On win7 x64 if I try to transfer a file thats just more than a few mb's either from the cappy to the pc or vice versa, the transfer just gets stuck, the loading bar is flashing but it doesnt get anywhere. I have to unplug my phone from the computer in order for it to go away, this causes windows explorer(not the internet browser) to restart as well.
-my other usb devices work without a problem
-have tried all six usb ports on my computer, same thing
-even weirder, i reformatted, installed win7 x86 just to see, transfers work fine on it. Reformatted again and installed x64 with fingers crossed, transfers didnt work on it again.
-I have tried transferring files with no windows updates installed on x64 as well as all updates installed, file transfers still get stuck both ways.
-im using the x64 captivate drivers from the odin3 thread on xda. running andromeda3 ROM.
anyone know what this could possibly be?

sounds like bad drivers from samsung or windows is not using the newest driver version, maybe downloading drivers from samsung and manually installing would help
32 bit version of windows will have different drivers
I installed .net 4 and that seems to have fixed my problem, if that makes any sense.
makes sense. i keep forgetting about that but it is something you should have for alot of things in windows, thought it was one of the required things for adb and odin as well. not sure though

I'm lucky enough to have a roomate with a dual boot ubuntu/windows so I can keep my Ubuntu and borrow his windows machine when I need it. Definately sounds like driver/ .net 4 issues though.

Team,
For those of you having trouble finding drivers here are some links.
64bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
32bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
For Linux and Mac the Android SDK drivers should work fine.
The standard Samsung USB driver that PDAnet had listed for the Samsung Moment worked for me as well, will give these new ones a try on my other system.
thank you
I added a link to this thread in the sticky
EDIT: Nevermind the n00b question. I was able to get the drivers installed and I am good to go.

have the same problem. i'm on 7, 32bit
did you enable USB debugging?
Gunnman from Galaxy S
yes of course. first thing I did after I rooted
I'm drunk so bear with me. go into device manager and browse for the driver manually ,include subdir. point to programfiles\samsung.
if that don't work use the 64bit drivers on 32bit windows. don't run setup just browse to the extracted dir from the unknown device in device manager. it worked for me at work. good night
Gunnman from Galaxy S
since i had issues w/ the 32bit driver exe, i extracted it and zipped it up incase others have the same issue.

this thread should be stickied since W7 doesn't come with the drivers, it seems.
How exactly do you update the drivers with win7? It keeps saying my drivers are up to date but I still can't get adb to recognize my vibrant

Try both 32bit and 64 bit drivers. At work I have 32bit win7 and the 64bit drivers fixed it up. Dont run setup just go through device manager chosse the unknown device and point it to the 64bit driver directory and check include sundirs.
Try using correct drivers for your win version but turn the phone off, connect and then power up while connected....worked fine for me after messing with both lots of drivers first and no luck
Make sure you select "USB debugging" for ADB to work folks.
Where can I get the mac driver..i looked everywhere please help
this thread is legit!
thanks for all of your help so far guys.. BUT i still cannot get my laptop to sync up with the phone properly (win xp pro, sp3)...
I've downloaded and installed both drivers and the computer is recognizing the external drives, but they are showing as removable disks E: and F:. when i double click to open, it is telling me to insert a disk? i feel like i'm almost there, but there is somethign i'm missing!
usb is mounted and usb storage is off. usb debugging enabled.
any help would be appreciated.
Windows drivers issue
Have you tried mounting the drives. Same thing happened to me when you have it connected to the computer drop down the usb notification and mount. The your drives should be accessible.
Like I said, I finally decided to take the plunge after running it exclusively on my sd for over a year, and now usb connectivity isn't working. Before all I had to do was install sd split widget, hit it and wait for aboug,t 20 minutes the first time, then each one after that was only about 1 minute.
Anyway, I flashed to scooter's cyanogen, but I was having issues with the lcd density(I use 320x480 for swype, and he didn't include roguetools, and I have no data and I couldn't connect to my computer to transfer it over, so I could not use it), so I flashed to super froyo rls16. I had been using it on SD so I was familiar with it. I installed it fine, used Titanium to restore all my apps and stuff, but when I went to hook it up to my computer to transfer some apps, I couldn't get it to connect. I have left it in split activated mode for 2+ hours and still nothing.
Some things to note
In both scooter's and superfroyo, I get a message from windows saying if you use a 2.0 usb port then it can perform faster.
I have tried the built in share files functionality in superfroyo and it just sits there for as long as I let it
I've tried different USB ports
I've tried uninstalling windows drives and reinstalling
I'm using windows 7 x64
Like I said, while running on SD, I had no issues with this stuff at all.
Its not urgent, thanks to titanium, I got all my apps and data back the way they were, but since I have no data and MMS doesn't work for verizon/android/vogue, now I have no way of transferring files or pictures on this phone.
Thanks for reading this all and a special thanks to all the devs who got me to this point.

Download the latest 2.6.25 kernel from there - 10/31/10
Works fine on USB 2.0 mode for my Touch
Same thing happened to me. My theory is that Windows looked for a driver and it installed one that won't let you use your phone as a mass storage device. Try using a different computer and see if it has the same affect.
And the 2.6.25 kernel is not compatible with Scooters Cyanogen Mod.

Yea I installed the ADB Drivers. Thing is Ubuntu and Mac OS X detect it fine with no problems and instantly at that. Silly Windows trying to find drivers.
But it also didn't work on my brothers netbook with XP and it didn't have the ADB drivers
I'm using the latest .32 kernal.
And I'm using ADB drivers with the dual mount widget.
HI,
I've had success installing my other android devices on my windows 7 x64 computer, have even used my (ADB) Nook Colour on a windows 7 32Bit laptop fine.
Problem: Android Composite ADB Driver wont install/ isn't found, Device is Auto Nootered on 1.1 using rooted stock firmware.
Tried:
I have the .android folder in my user profile dir with the device ID in it
Followed various wikis and guides (that worked for the 32Bit version)
Watched the driver load/unload in device manager as I tick 'Development Mode (enable ADB)'
Tried various driver packs from here and googles latest offering, still only matches up with Android ADB Driver not the Composite (wont even show me the composite one)
Wireless ADB works and is disabled, worried about installing CWM using wireless for some reason USB feels safer to me
Thinks I noticed:
Hardware ID is listed as USB\VID_2080&PID_0002 which matchs up with %SingleAdbInterface% in the ini file for the driver, composite aka %CompositeAdbInterface% has &MI_01 on the end. Not sure if that means its not getting the right hardware ID from the device when ADB/ Development mode is enabled of if having the wrong driver loaded on it shows up the wrong Hardware ID.
Things I havent tried, enabling ADB on the Nook using sqlite3 method, but if it works on another coputer didn't think it would be a good idea.
Plan:
Install CWM, flash CM7 or similar to device.
I had the same issues with Windows 7 64-bit and never got it working. Worked fine on my WinXP laptop at work though. If you find a solution I would be happy to hear it, but to be honest I have found I haven't really needed ADB much if at all.

Same here!
This one is weird...
I'm on win7x64 and I *have* got adb to work at times. When I was first rooting my new NC (1.1.0), I fiddled with it and I had it running over usb fine. But now, when I plug in the usb and I either get that the device is unrecognized or it goes into usb sync mode. Haven't quite figured that out...
But, ultimately, I just use adb wireless for any adb stuff, although it's "not recommended". It's worked perfect for me all along.

Glad to help. What do you mean USB Auto Mount? I kind of thought that should happen?
My goal for getting adb working was to get su, which i got here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953110 with a bit of trouble but seems to work, so that i could drag items from my pc onto HC. I'm using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952456 to mount the media directory. I now seem to have su installed and the USM app is working. i only see my BN media directory from my pc now (yay) but i can't browse that directory from my nook HC (boo). So i can't share files between eggclair and HC. I'm a noob to nook and newbe to linux, so i'm assuming it is a permissions issue but don't have enough knowledge on how to change them yet.
I've installed DropBox but it keeps asking for an SD card, which isn't a big issue, just i haven't found the time to go buy one. Is there a way to use db without an SD card?
unfortunately no, db requires external storage. if you opened the apk to recode its default directory maybe but im not sure its possible
usb auto mount I can disable in nook tools but its a persistant system that defaults every reboot, I dont like to see it popup while using the nook when I plug it in just one of many peeves
Things I noticed:
In the Driver ini it states &MI_01 means composite driver is installed.
Under Hardware ID I only get :
USB\VID_2080&PID_0002&REV_0216
USB\VID_2080&PID_0002
This leads me to believe that even though the box is ticked on my nootered Nook that its not really enabling ADB on the device (then maybe it would show &MI_01 as needed?)
Going to flash a new firmware.... maybe Froyo and see if it comes up right after that.

I thought that as well and flashed back to the EC 1.0.1, sideloaded 1.1 update and repartitioned, used cw to add HC back and all that, and still had the same issue. Came down to the ini file not having a NookColor section.
Did you check the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987409
I'm no stranger to drivers, I could force it to use the driver by changing the ini files but it still wouldn't appear in ADB Devices.
Flashed Nooky FroYo and now the device driver states the hardware ID has the missing '&MI_01' which means the composite driver works out of the box.
I used IOMonsters Easy USB installer and it seems to have installed the drivers for Windows 7 64Bit Fine
After running the install .exe I also had to execute the Inst64.exe
Hello again. I am attempting to root my new dell streak 7, froyo 2.2.2 stock, wifi only device using gingerbreak. I was advised from another thread I posted to download gingerbreak using my computer then transfer the file to my Dell Streak 7, since my device would not download gingerbreak successfully. I have tried to do this but my Dell computer will not recognize my Streak. I am using a stock usb cable. When I plug it in the Windows Device Manager comes up and wants to search for drivers. I have allowed it, not allowed it and even told it not to search anymore. None of this has helped. Then my computer says there was a problem installing my device and it might not work properly. It still won't recognize my device as being plugged in at all, but my Streak does recognize that it has been plugged into the computer. USB debugging is on. All I want to do is get gingerbreak on my device so that I can root it and get rid of all the stock stuff that came with it originally. I have searched similar threads but they didnt have an answer or were not the exact thing I needed. Please help. Thank you in advance.
Your computer could not find the driver for the Streak. You need to go to Dell website and download the driver for you computer operating system. Here is the link:
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=447160
After downloading the driver, unzip it to a directory in your pc. When you connect the Streak to the pc, windows will ask you for the driver. Make sure to enter the directory where you unzip the driver.

Thanks! I am using win xp sp3. I really hope there is a fix because this is very frustrating. It does show up on my device though. But I still need to hook up to computer for music xfer etc.

Have you tried the driver from Dell's link that I gave you? Yes, the computer should automatically recognize a device, but through my experience, nothing is perfect. That's why Dell posted the driver for people to download in case the computer did not recognize the Streak. In fact, here is Dell's description of this driver:
Set of USB drivers needed so Windows XP or Windows 7 can correctly identify the Streak & device when it is connected to a PC

My streak when stock did not recognize properly either with win 7 x64. Even the drivers in the folder for win7 and vista 64 wouldn't work. I think I wound up using the xp 64 drivers using compatibility mode.

Man this is really getting me down. So I downloaded the file that you recommended from the link that you provided. After messing around for over an hour with the "dell download manager application," and about pulling my hair out over that worthless application. I finally just downloaded the file with my own browser (firefox 4.0). But it is a RAR file and does not give me the option to unzip it. I can pretty much download it to anyplace on my computer that I want but I downloaded it to the default which is my desktop. Then after running the device manager to install the ds7, my computer will not find the RAR file that I downloaded to the desktop. I have the option, as I said earlier, to download it into the existing dell drivers file that is on my computer but I actually have to put it in a file. There are several driver files listed there all starting with R and about 6 numbers after it, but I don't know which to put it in or if that is even what I should do. Suggestions?
After you have down'd the drivers from otmos's link on Sunday. Unzip the 16mb file to a suitable directory. Now when you install the drivers point the location to the Drivers folder in the directory that you unzipped ADB-Drivers.zip into and allow it to search for the correct file itself from there. Don't try to point to the individual sub directories.
Dell's SyncUP on it's own does not install the drivers.
Seriously? You have to go through hoops to get USB Mass Storage to work with the Dell Streak and Windows?
I just plug it in and tap the "Connect to computer" or whatever the screen is for starting mass storage. I rarely use it, but I did a few days ago to dump a few gigs of music over. Just worked in Linux..

rar files are a type of compressed file, similar to zip, you need to use a program like WinRAR to extract them. Windows will not recognize the drivers that are compressed in the rar file. Once you uncompressed them into a folder on your desktop, do the device manager to install the ds7 like before, and direct it to find the drivers in that uncompressed folder.

Perhaps he's just over complicating it then if he can't get adb to work, just get it on the SD card and install it.

If you installed Dell Sync correctly and the Fastboot and ADB drivers correctly the your problem is driver related.... Do you not see a yellow exclamation in your device manager for you to update the driver?
You should probably be install the Android SDK with the Google USB drivers also

I believe you are trying to connect your Streak 7 to your computer so that you can transfer musics and files onto your Streak 7, right? If that is the case, Honeycomb does not support USB as mass disk device. You need to upgrade to Win 7 or use an app from the marketplace to do this.
Windows XP does not support MTP natively, you have to do a bunch of driver crap to get it to work.

You need the WMP11 runtimes (as that has MTP support).
Then you need the specific mtp driver for the S7, which is included in Fastboot+ADB.zip
It's much easier just to use an app and do a wireless transfer.
All HC and newer devices only officially support MTP
(at least that's what goog wants, new devices that dont support MTP are in the minority)
I believe the WMP11 runtimes are offered via windows update, the only thing you need to specifically download are the device specific mtp drivers.
(They're not even drivers per-se, you can force install a generic mtp driver and it'll work fine, but that's besides the point)

Yes,i was trying to connect my Streak 7 to computer that has windows XP professional,so that i can transfer musics and files onto Streak 7 honeycomb 3.2.
If i upgrade to Win 7 does the device show up in my computer ?
And if you say i need to use an app from the marketplace to do this. what is the App that i need to download on device ? and even if i download it on the device does that make the device recognizable on my computer on XP ?
Please, educate me as not always i have internet connection and would like to transfer files like music and books to the DS7 from a computer thats not on internet network.
Thanks

If you have Win 7, just plug the DS7 in and it will be recognized as an MTP device in Windows Explorer or the Devices and Printers folder.
Or you can use an app like Wifi File Explorer or File Expert to wirelessly transfer file to/from your computer and your DS7. You need to have a Wifi network. Consult instructions and support through these apps on how to use them.
Yes I was able to see the DS7 in my computer on windows 7,and was able to transfer musica and movies but, when i transfer books they get transferred but not visible on the device unless i open them a App Called "Quick Office" where it shows all the loaded files on DS7,any idea how to get them as different folder or see them seperately ,Also i saw the drivers.zip but did not extract it as did not feel the use of it !is there a specif use of it!
