Why don't you take the time do first do some reading and find the drivers and then second team on how to install and use this email drivers.... If I give you the links you won't learn a thing but I can tell you they are here in so many different threads started by folks like you that wanted the info spoon fed to them that it goes me a headache..... So show some initiative

If you installed Dell Sync correctly and the Fastboot and ADB drivers correctly the your problem is driver related.... Do you not see a yellow exclamation in your device manager for you to update the driver?
You should probably be install the Android SDK with the Google USB drivers also

I believe you are trying to connect your Streak 7 to your computer so that you can transfer musics and files onto your Streak 7, right? If that is the case, Honeycomb does not support USB as mass disk device. You need to upgrade to Win 7 or use an app from the marketplace to do this.
Windows XP does not support MTP natively, you have to do a bunch of driver crap to get it to work.

You need the WMP11 runtimes (as that has MTP support).
Then you need the specific mtp driver for the S7, which is included in Fastboot+ADB.zip
It's much easier just to use an app and do a wireless transfer.
All HC and newer devices only officially support MTP
(at least that's what goog wants, new devices that dont support MTP are in the minority)
I believe the WMP11 runtimes are offered via windows update, the only thing you need to specifically download are the device specific mtp drivers.
(They're not even drivers per-se, you can force install a generic mtp driver and it'll work fine, but that's besides the point)

Yes,i was trying to connect my Streak 7 to computer that has windows XP professional,so that i can transfer musics and files onto Streak 7 honeycomb 3.2.
If i upgrade to Win 7 does the device show up in my computer ?
And if you say i need to use an app from the marketplace to do this. what is the App that i need to download on device ? and even if i download it on the device does that make the device recognizable on my computer on XP ?
Please, educate me as not always i have internet connection and would like to transfer files like music and books to the DS7 from a computer thats not on internet network.
Thanks

If you have Win 7, just plug the DS7 in and it will be recognized as an MTP device in Windows Explorer or the Devices and Printers folder.
Or you can use an app like Wifi File Explorer or File Expert to wirelessly transfer file to/from your computer and your DS7. You need to have a Wifi network. Consult instructions and support through these apps on how to use them.
Yes I was able to see the DS7 in my computer on windows 7,and was able to transfer musica and movies but, when i transfer books they get transferred but not visible on the device unless i open them a App Called "Quick Office" where it shows all the loaded files on DS7,any idea how to get them as different folder or see them seperately ,Also i saw the drivers.zip but did not extract it as did not feel the use of it !is there a specif use of it!

Hello,
I have already moved to Windows 7, which is very stable and much faster then Windows Vista...
There are some problems with the Windows 7 and USPL...
Is there a configuration guide, which explains the procedure, how I can manage the USB connection problems within Windows 7.
Many Thanks
Roman
You need to update the USB drivers.
The following post will explain how. This works for Windows 7 aswell as Vista.
http://www.modaco.com/content/windo...u-on-vista-it-can-be-done-the-ultimate-guide/
One thing to note, you have to put your phone in bootloader and connect it via USB for it to show the Mobile Device - HTC USB in Device Manager.
One laptop I was on I knew I had to apply the fix on so hadn't tried without updating, and took me forever to find out why I couldn't find the driver to update.
I used a small program called "Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider 1.3b".
Its freeware for using unsigned drivers in Windows 7.
I'm using Windows 7 x64 and USPL works perfect now.
Thanks

Hello,
Had to upgrade my Windows 7 to build 7077 first....!
Then it worked @ 1st try... ;-)
Roman
I have problem with installing driver on Windows 7 64-bit (build 7077). I always get error: This device cannot start (Code 10). Does anyone have solution for it?
I had to get to 7077 as well, i couldnt make it start on 7057 or 7068 either.
I just solved it, but I can't explained how... I tried it again and again.. did some restart of HD and of Windows 7 and finally I was successfull . My tip is to re-connect HD on USB before installation...
I use 7077 x64 and no issues with it whatsoever. I had no issues at all with any build and actually it gets the drivers and Windows Mobile Device Center automatically for me. Check your system drivers like chipset and usb controller for updated versions maybe?
Thanks
Many thanks for the solution that you give to us.
I have been testing every release of Windows 7 since 7000 and as long as you install WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1) and then update the HTC USB Sync driver (put your phone into bootloader and update the driver in device manager with the one from the guide in my signature) you won't have any issues flashing roms. This is for both 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7.
The cyanogen rom 4.2.3 has USB tethering support, but I can not get it to work, mainly because of missing information/documentation.
In 'settings' 'wireless controls' there is a nice 'Internet tethering' option to switch it on. When I switch that on then my Windows XP PC shows an unknown device 'Andriod Phone' and would like to install drivers for it. Where can I get these drivers from ?
Markus
I would also like to know how the usb tethering works for a mac as well. Didnt find any information on that. Thanks in advance.
You may need to get the drivers from the Android SDK, but with regards to USB tethering, your phone should be recognised as an NDIS based network device and installed automatically by Windows. Not sure about XP, but it installs automatically on Vista and 7
Under Ubuntu Linux (from an end-user perspective), when a G1 is connected with USB tethering enabled, network manager connects as if the phone were a standard, ethernet connection.

For xp you have to install drivers from htc sync software. Just google 'htc sync'. Should have been asked in q&a.
Nothing happens on Mac OS X 10.5.8 neither on 10.6.1

The search doesnt always give you what your lookin for if you dont word it a certain way man................
I think im gonna need a step by step.... I got the file... the computer recognizes the device.... But it doesn't register as a connection....
To everyone that is having problems tethering:
I was having the same issues. At first I wasn't able to get it to install, and then it would just keep saying the device couldn't start.
i found a very simple solution. I went into device manager, uninstalled all of my usb ports, and restarted my computer.
When it restarted, it automatically installed the usb drivers, and the tethering has worked ever since.
I could not get this to work either, finally after 3 days of messing with this on my work pc, I got it to work. First download htc sync from here http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=631&news_id=270 then unzip and install to your pc. Next tick on the option to usb tether while the phone is plugged in. It will say found Android phone Sdk or something like that. I did this on my xp pc at work that had no htc drivers previously installed. Next I went to my device manager and under network adapters you will see the yellow exclamation point, right click on that and update driver, 1st install from a specific location, 2nd Don't search I will choose driver to install. 3rd Have disk, 4th browse to C/program files/htc/htc driver/driver files/xp_86x then hit open and click ok. It might give a "stop warning" ignore it and continue. When its done installing you should be ready to go.....

That's your problem then. Yeah update to sp3 and you will be good. I promise.
I'm running into the same tethering trouble, but appear to meet all the criteria mentioned in this thread and other threads i've come across. the bottom line is i can connect with ADB access and mount my phone's SD card via the usb connection, but tethering doesn't work under several versions of Cyanogen on my laptop. currently I have CM 4.2.12.2 on my rooted Dream. I have windows SP3 installed (installed it twice because problem persisted). I've uninstalled all the USB ports per an above post, rebooted and plugged my phone in. The laptop reinstalls the USB ports, and finds the phone as an "ADB Interface" named "HTC Dream Composite ADB Interface". I can update the drivers with the google SDK USB drivers which makes the device an "Android Phone" named "Android Composite ADB Interface" instead. With either set of drivers installed, once I go to Settings on my phone and enable tethering, the device under windows goes away and instead i get yellow question mark "Other Devices" named Android Phone. I can try to force it to use the same USB drivers but it won't install them.
With tethering turned off, i can successfully type "adp devices" on my laptop console and see that my phone is there. once i turn tethering on, the same command shows no devices.
The Dream works with tethering just fine on my windows pc and shows up as a "Network adapter" named "Windows Mobile-based Internet Sharing Device".
My laptop is a compac presario in case that matters. what do i need to do on it to make tethering work?
just found the solution. a lot of posts were talking about installing microsoft active sync. sounded pointless considering it's an android phone, but it ends up being that the drivers for "windows mobile-based internet sharing device" are part of the active sync installation. i installed active sync, plugged in my phone, enabled tethering and then the laptop installed the correct drivers and it all worked without a hitch. hope this helps others!

This is totally the problem. I spent hours trying different ways then finally googled it and came here
Team,
For those of you having trouble finding drivers here are some links.
64bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
32bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
For Linux and Mac the Android SDK drivers should work fine.
The standard Samsung USB driver that PDAnet had listed for the Samsung Moment worked for me as well, will give these new ones a try on my other system.
thank you
I added a link to this thread in the sticky
EDIT: Nevermind the n00b question. I was able to get the drivers installed and I am good to go.

have the same problem. i'm on 7, 32bit
did you enable USB debugging?
Gunnman from Galaxy S
yes of course. first thing I did after I rooted
I'm drunk so bear with me. go into device manager and browse for the driver manually ,include subdir. point to programfiles\samsung.
if that don't work use the 64bit drivers on 32bit windows. don't run setup just browse to the extracted dir from the unknown device in device manager. it worked for me at work. good night
Gunnman from Galaxy S
since i had issues w/ the 32bit driver exe, i extracted it and zipped it up incase others have the same issue.

this thread should be stickied since W7 doesn't come with the drivers, it seems.

Try both 32bit and 64 bit drivers. At work I have 32bit win7 and the 64bit drivers fixed it up. Dont run setup just go through device manager chosse the unknown device and point it to the 64bit driver directory and check include sundirs.
Try using correct drivers for your win version but turn the phone off, connect and then power up while connected....worked fine for me after messing with both lots of drivers first and no luck
Make sure you select "USB debugging" for ADB to work folks.

thanks for all of your help so far guys.. BUT i still cannot get my laptop to sync up with the phone properly (win xp pro, sp3)...

usb is mounted and usb storage is off. usb debugging enabled.

Hello again. I am attempting to root my new dell streak 7, froyo 2.2.2 stock, wifi only device using gingerbreak. I was advised from another thread I posted to download gingerbreak using my computer then transfer the file to my Dell Streak 7, since my device would not download gingerbreak successfully. I have tried to do this but my Dell computer will not recognize my Streak. I am using a stock usb cable. When I plug it in the Windows Device Manager comes up and wants to search for drivers. I have allowed it, not allowed it and even told it not to search anymore. None of this has helped. Then my computer says there was a problem installing my device and it might not work properly. It still won't recognize my device as being plugged in at all, but my Streak does recognize that it has been plugged into the computer. USB debugging is on. All I want to do is get gingerbreak on my device so that I can root it and get rid of all the stock stuff that came with it originally. I have searched similar threads but they didnt have an answer or were not the exact thing I needed. Please help. Thank you in advance.
Your computer could not find the driver for the Streak. You need to go to Dell website and download the driver for you computer operating system. Here is the link:
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=447160
After downloading the driver, unzip it to a directory in your pc. When you connect the Streak to the pc, windows will ask you for the driver. Make sure to enter the directory where you unzip the driver.

Thanks! I am using win xp sp3. I really hope there is a fix because this is very frustrating. Have you tried the driver from Dell's link that I gave you? Yes, the computer should automatically recognize a device, but through my experience, nothing is perfect. That's why Dell posted the driver for people to download in case the computer did not recognize the Streak. In fact, here is Dell's description of this driver:
Set of USB drivers needed so Windows XP or Windows 7 can correctly identify the Streak & device when it is connected to a PC

My streak when stock did not recognize properly either with win 7 x64. Even the drivers in the folder for win7 and vista 64 wouldn't work. I think I wound up using the xp 64 drivers using compatibility mode.

Man this is really getting me down. So I downloaded the file that you recommended from the link that you provided. After messing around for over an hour with the "dell download manager application," and about pulling my hair out over that worthless application. I finally just downloaded the file with my own browser (firefox 4.0). But it is a RAR file and does not give me the option to unzip it. I can pretty much download it to anyplace on my computer that I want but I downloaded it to the default which is my desktop. Then after running the device manager to install the ds7, my computer will not find the RAR file that I downloaded to the desktop. I have the option, as I said earlier, to download it into the existing dell drivers file that is on my computer but I actually have to put it in a file. There are several driver files listed there all starting with R and about 6 numbers after it, but I don't know which to put it in or if that is even what I should do. Suggestions?
After you have down'd the drivers from otmos's link on Sunday. Unzip the 16mb file to a suitable directory. Now when you install the drivers point the location to the Drivers folder in the directory that you unzipped ADB-Drivers.zip into and allow it to search for the correct file itself from there. Don't try to point to the individual sub directories.
Dell's SyncUP on it's own does not install the drivers.
Seriously? You have to go through hoops to get USB Mass Storage to work with the Dell Streak and Windows?
I just plug it in and tap the "Connect to computer" or whatever the screen is for starting mass storage. I rarely use it, but I did a few days ago to dump a few gigs of music over. Just worked in Linux..

rar files are a type of compressed file, similar to zip, you need to use a program like WinRAR to extract them. Windows will not recognize the drivers that are compressed in the rar file. Once you uncompressed them into a folder on your desktop, do the device manager to install the ds7 like before, and direct it to find the drivers in that uncompressed folder.

Perhaps he's just over complicating it then if he can't get adb to work, just get it on the SD card and install it.

I tried what they said nothing worked
I cant Reinstall win7 because it is an OEM
I tried to install alternative driver for the MTP drivers the triangle went away or MTP error disappeared but I don't know if I choose the right one
I choose from a list
when I plug in the kindle a different message comes up
"some computers require a free file transfer utility to copy files between the computer and you kindle."
I have WMP the latest version
what do I need to get this working is there something I can download and install to override this issue.
Is your version of windows 7 a non us versions, because that's what I believe his issue is. Also your PC should have a windows 7 key on it so u can always reformat it, but you need a disk, and if you don't have one I can't really help you obtain one because I am not aware of if its illegal to DL stuff u already own off then internet and i would rather not get banned from this forum if it is. However if MTP is very important and u absolutely need it, go to ubuntu's website and download a desktop live CD, if you don't know your processor type juse 32 bit, but most modern PC's are 64 bit. Anyways if all goes well after burning it to a cd or making a bootable flash drive, u can boot into a live os and it should have mtp and u can transfer stuff. I on the other hand cannot do this because I use an older version of Ubuntu on a small partition and it is a pain to upgrade distros and I hate the new interface, but from what I have read the new versions of Ubuntu will work with your kindle. You can always install Linux along side windows but if you don't know a thing about resizing partitions, then i wouldn't suggest it because u might wipe your windows os and that would suck. BTW ubuntu is completely legal compared to what I was questioning above about windows. Yay Linux!!!

thanks
how do I check the status of my windows OS and I am running UBUNTU 12.04 alongside my windows OS
Im not that familar with Ubuntu as I would like to. I tried to sync my kindle to ubuntu, try to root my kindle and it was very complex
more than on windows
Funny, I find it easier to root on Ubuntu than on windows, no driver problems and then binary bash script works the same way. I am unfamiliar with "syncing" a kindle, especially on Ubuntu, I never sync mine I just use it like I would a flash drive, drag and drop files to it. Should work the name way on Ubuntu I think, I use an older version of Ubuntu that can't open it as an MTP device, so i just push and pull with adb. My only problem with helping you doing this on Ubuntu is your using 12.04, and I don't use the new ones because I don't like the new interface, i use gnome based desktop environment. So I can't exactly say where to click to open the kindle, but if I had to guess you can simply open a nautilus window from that bar on the left of the screen, any thing on it that's a folder will do, from there there should be a pane on the left if the window where the kindle would show up as a device u can click and view the contents of. I'm kinda basing this off what happens when I use a camera or iPod on mine, I assume kindle would show up the same way. If this is not the case you may have to install a package for an MTP browser, again not familiar with the interface and from what I remember trying it last time they took out the synaptic package manager by default, so I would have to tell u a command to run in a terminal to install it instead if need be. Tell me how it goes I will try to help as much as I can.
I kinda feel like I put too much information in this post...
Oh and as for telling your windows os, it may tell if you right click my computer( on start menu) and hit properties. Another way to throw a guess at it is ask yourself "Do you live in the USA?". Windows I think will say something about it in the properties of my computer though, if not you can try running winver from the run box it may display something useful. I don't have my PC booted up into windows right now so i can't verify this, and I kinda host a minecraft server on it in Linux most of the time so I don't shut it down unless I need to and its empty.

I have a problem I have a kindle fire and getting the drivers installed is the problem
I have install the ADB driver but am having extreme difficulties getting the MTP drivers to work
I have tried everything (every solution on Google)
and nothing works
I've tried the "Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit"
I tried to get Microsoft help they gave me the run around and confused me even more.
I tried to Go to Device Manager, under Portable Devices, right-click on MTP USB Device, and then click on Update Driver Software to update the MTP USB device driver. I then Selected “Browse my computer for driver software” to locate and install MTP USB device driver software manually.I then Selected “Let me pick from a List of device drivers on your computer”. A list will show installed driver software compatible with the device but I dont know what to pick
can someone help me please

Thanks a bunch!
The answer to get a Kindle recognised by Widnows 7
plug kindle into pc
ignore unpleasant driver message
enter device manager and click the following:
update driver software
browse my computer for driver software
let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
select 'portable device' from the list
select 'standard mtp device' from the list
select 'mtp usb device' from the list
click next"
This worked after hours of trying to get my Kindle to work in windows 10!
