[Q] Backing up using rom manager - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The phone reboots in to recovery and starts to backup but then stops when it gets to 'backing up sd-ext... lost+found'
The progress bar is in the middle and i have left it for an hour and it makes no further progress.
Clockworkmod recovery v3.0.0.5
rom manager 3.0.1.4
sd card space 3158MB
I have been having issues flashing roms at the moment. I was using cm7 nightly builds and then tried out the miui rom. The first gingerbread release went on no problem apart from not being able to access the market. Then i tried to flash the Current Release 1.4.1 and it was then sent in a boot loop.
How do i begin to sort this problem?
Many thanks
Stephen

The cwm3.0 is the problem.
I stopped using it and went with amon ra.

Yeah. Go with amon ra recovery cuz cwm 3.0 and up have been reported not working properly.

Or. If you're like me and like using ROM Manager, just flash 2.5.1.4 and continue as before.

Problem accessing recovery

Hi guys:
I have rooted my phone today using SuperOneClick root. Then I have installed ROM Manager, and installed Clockwork Recovery Mod 3.0.0.5. I have being reflashing Clockwork and recovery menu via ROM Manager because when I turn off my phone and turn it up (holding up power on and vol down button) and press to go to Recovery then appears the error image that is like an Android logo, cellphone and a yellow caution sign.
¿Can you guys help me? ¿What I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!
That's the stock recovery. If you still have a stock rom, it will restore stock recovery unless you delete the following files:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
/system/recovery-from-boot.p

I don't understand.
I have installed to it CM7 last build. And is running without any problems, but I am scared that if I have some problem with the OS and I can't boot to recovery.
It has Clockwork Recovery Mod but I can access it unless I use ROM Manager to start it.
¿I need to delete those 2 files and It will be fixed?
Thanks!
That is definitely the stock recovery (Android with an exclamation in a triangle).
If you have CM7 installed, I've no idea how you got the stock recovery, but re-flashing another recovery should fix it. The two files I mentioned aren't included in CM7, so that's not the problem...

Agree. That's the stock recovery. Sometimes you need to apply the new recovery twice under rom manager. I did have similar experience. Install a custom recovery again. I beg it will be fine next time. Hope this help.
When I first rooted using a one click method my custom recovery would only stick for one boot. On the xda nexus one wiki there's instructions on how to install a recovery after one click root and get it to stick.
Hope this helps!

[Q] Can't flash Sense Roms on Clockwork 3.0.0.5

It says that i need to update a script or something and something about android 1.5. I'm currently on the cm 7 nightly #21. I've tried various sense roms like fresh rom 2.4, espresso hero, etc. If i go to rom manager, it says the clockworkmod recovery is 2.5.0.7 even though it says 3.0.0.5 if i go to recovery. Don't really know what to do so if you know what to do, please reply.

Those ROMs must be using amend scripts and the latest recovery uses edify. There are a few things you could do:
1. Flash an older recovery - CWM 2x or RA 1.x and then flash the ROM
2. Update the scripts to edify and then flash the ROM

Would you happen to have a copy of a CWM 2x ? I've been looking for the link since you posted.

I'm getting errors trying to flash every version besides 2.5.1. How do i kill 3.0.0.5 and replace it? Its weird since on rom manager, it says I'm on 2.5.0.7 but when i actually go to recovery, its says its 3.0.0.5.
I don't have any problems flashing sense . Id try uninstalling and installing again from market not through TB.

In Rom Manager scroll down to the bottom and select flash alternate recovery then scroll to the top and select flash Clockwork Mod recovery. Should be good to go after that

Use method 2 from the ROMRepo. The only difference is is that if you have the latest ROM Manager, the folder that has the newest recovery image will be mirror.kanged.net. That's how I'm able to flash the different images. Edit the recoveries in that folder.
It wont allow me to post the link so just grab it from the OP of the aospCMod ROM.

I don't like flashing Sense roms from CW and my phone doesn't either. Usually what I'll do is since I'm on CW 3.0.1.9 I just make a backup of what I want to keep on my PC, wipe everything including the /recovery option and flash RA's recovery. For ME, it seems to work better these days. Many months ago when my Hero was still fresh I could flash everything. At least it overclocks to 807 without an issue.
Oh btw, if you run a google for "RA recovery heroc" you'll find it. Info on flashing a recovery is everywhere within XDA, after a while you just remember these things

[Q] CM7 nightly install problem

Hi Everybody,
I have been installing the nightly CM7 ROM updates on my phone for a while, no problem, and had several different ROMs before that.
My mom also has a Captivate and I finally got around to trying to install a ROM for her.
I followed all the pre install instructions correctly (root, flash Recovery 2.x, Captivate MTD etc) but when I tried downloading and actually intalling the ROM, when it booted into recovery, it didnt do anything. It was just the standard recovery menu. Usually it automatically backs up the current ROM and then proceeds to install.
I didn't go from stock on my phone to the CM7 ROM, so I was thinking of trying another ROM before going to CM7.
Any other ideas before I do that, since I know its usually better to upgrade from stock?
Thanks!
You remembered to install clockwork mod right?

In the ROM Manager App, I clicked the button that said "flash Clockwork Mod Recovery" and chose the options that the instructions detailed.
If thats what you are talking about then yes. If not, then if you can direct me to a guide on where to get it/how to install it that would be great.
Thanks!

You have to go to the samsung recovery and press install packages twice after hitting "flash clock work mod recovery" in rom manager, that will boot you into cwm

The installation goes fine and I can boot into it he first time. But after that it doesn't work. I just an image of the android figure and an exclamation mark in a triangle. I have to remove my battery to reboot. If I reinstall clockworkmod recovery it works. But only once. Hen I get the same problem. Any body know what's wrong here. Its got me stumped. I'm afraid to install any Rom wig this acting so weird. Thanks for any and all help anyone can give.

Stock Recovery is persistent, i.e will overwrite CWM on every reboot.
How do i get around this then to make it stop overwriting clockwork?

There's a script or something like that is preventing the CWM recovery from sticking IIRC.
You can get a script made by rugmankc
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...b.tt/ooDaCnU&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13257843136922
Download the file and put on your sd card
After you install and boot into the CWM recovery the first time, flash that
Fix-Recovery.zip file
Thanks, I took a look at it, instead of running the script i used ES File Explorer and just renamed install-recovery.sh and recovery-form-boot.p and that seemed to do the trick. I was able to boot into CWM recovery 3 times in a row.
you should install super user or Custom rom
Im already rooted so I have super user. And I will be installing a custom Rom soon. Anyway, the issue is cleared up now, since I renamed those files.

[Q] Flashin two clockworkmods

So I just rooted and flashed cm7 using this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337105
Now, it installed rom manager on my phone and also, this method flashed Revolutionary clockwork mod on my phone. the version is: 4.0.1.4
Now in rom manager, I want to use the back up option etc and for that it says I need to flash clockwork mod.
My question is, would it do any damage if I were to flash clockwork mod from rom manager although I have it installed already?
Thanks in advance

If you update CWM using ROM Manager, it should overwrite the Revolutionary CWM version with the latest version.
Are you sure? I tried it, takes a really long while

I tried doing it. It just hangs. I mean the display doesn't turn on and that's it. I waited for about 5 minutes. Nothing happened. Although when I popped out the battery and put it back in, it worked okay but the version of CWM is the same. The one from Revolutionary as I mentioned above!

Ok then just flash the latest CWM recovery from FASTBOOT USB mode using the command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Also you can just boot into recovery and perform a backup without using ROM Manager.
Thanks a lot man! Really! Couldn't thank you enough. Got it done!
