[Q] DSPManager - LG Optimus 2x

Is DSPManager only working on CM, cuz I cant seem to get it to work on my optimus 2x. Took both DSPManager.apk and libaudioflinger.so from CM6.1 and tried pushing them to /system/app and /system/lib respectivly (with root explorer, shouldn't matter, eh? Was thinking if some permissions got screwd? )... This resulted in a boot-loop, where I heard it tried to start the audio drivers or something (small "spark" from speaker) again and again. (Is there more files concerning dspmanager maybe?)
Then I adb shell-ed, remounted, and put back the original libaudioflinger.so, and it just booted, didn't even need to reboot. Anyways, feels like this would be nice to have, because I think the (phone)speaker is not good enough, especially in loud enviroments. I don't know, maybe dspmanager wont even help with this problem?
Any thoughts?

I have been thinking about this as well haven't tried to install it yet but would probably tried the same as you. This program is really the only one i miss now. Would be awesome to get it wokring.
Maybe some of the ROM makers put it in their ROMs?

Browser.apk between Roms

Hey Guys, I was just wondering about the Browser.apk between roms... I was originally using SuperCSDIv4 and it worked really well, but for a change I just flashed Super D 1.10.3 last night.
The only issue I have is the default browser in Super D 1.10.3 - I'll save a bit of typing by just saying that they are different, and I dont know any dev info on either one but I love the SuperCDSIv4 one better, does anyone have an idea on how to install the superCSDIv4?
I have tried "adb rm" for the old browser.apk, and then "adb push" for the new browser.apk, but it FCs each time I try to open it. I have also tried copying the Browser.apk to the SD card and installing it with astro; but again, the install FCs.
Am I missing something here? any help much appreciated!
you might wanna try xScope browser, the devs are awesome (i think it costs like $2.99 but theres a lite version)

*Edit: What does spareparts do? where are you taking it from? I'm really looking foward to compcache and swap again
You can get spare parts from the market but it doesnt need root access. SOme of the newer ROMS, for the G1 atleast, had a spareparts where you could configure swap and cc. I dont know if thats the one he got working.

I also tried the the meltus volume hack and that doesn't appear to increase the volume even after allowing SU. Now as for the live wall papers I installed a couple from the market and they all show up under the adw launcher without me pushing the files through.

Do we know if Wired-Tether works? I haven't rooted yet as I have found a method that works without root on my Ubuntu, but I've been having a hell of a time finding a free, user-friendly method for my wife's windows.
has anyone tried TA Utility?

I'm happy to hear that CacheMate works. I have the Slide but have not had any luck rooting it (I still don't believe it can be done ). CacheMate technically requires busybox so I'm not sure why it's working. I don't make direct calls to busybox but I know that it adds some of the some core functionality to apps like mine such as cp and mv. This is why some files managers specifically for root will not work without busybox.
I'm assuming a simpler root method will be available soon enough and ROMs everything else will be made available to get all the root apps working perfectly. If the Slide was mine and not my wife's, I would not have given up on trying to root it. Anyway, glad to hear CacheMate works and people are enjoying it on the Slide.
Chachemate is working for me as well.
AndroidAppCritic - One thing I did to get ADB to see the Slide in Recovery was format the memory card before I did anything. I left it in there the whole time too. That worked on two Slides. Pulling the memory card out before Fastboot saw it then popping it back in right before Recovery came up wouldn't work for me.
That is, of course, if that is the problem you were having.

I know it's off topic but believe me when I tell you that I've tried every possible suggestion. I own dozens of SD cards from 2GB class 2 to 16GB class 6 in every imaginable brand. I even tried my gold card from the myTouch. But apparently it really is possible. I guess I don't care as much since it's not mine.

[REQ] Stock Music Lockscreen Widget

There is not much that i miss about the stock apps on the Fascinate. However, I must say that I do miss the awesome music widget that you can pull down the CD (with album art on it) from the top of the screen. Do you think it's possible to port this over to use?
I have tried taking the apk and odex files from the stock rom and placing them into /system/app but it does not work. I'm not sure if voodoo's new ext4 file format is causing permission issues or what, but either way i haven't been able to get it working. Anyone have any ideas on this? If not, anyone up for porting over the app

Are you on JT's rom? if so don't use an apk with an odex, his system is deodex'ed.
Try the following apk, it should work.
I get "application not installed" when I try to install it. Could it be because there is already a Music app called "Music" on Jt's rom?

That is a system file. You can't just install it. You need to replace the original file with that one with adb or root explorer (or something similar).

adb pull /system/apps/musicplayer.apk
backup that version, copy new version into its place.
adb push musicplayer.apk /system/apps/
?? is that how you would do it? or is that even where it is?
I think it's /system/app
regardless, i have tried this and every time i do it my phone goes to black screen after the VZW screen. It will just sit there. Then when I go back and put the original .apk back in place...it boots right up and works. I have a friend trying to go back to the touchwiz calendar who has the exact same problem. Neither of us can figure it out.

Here flash this through CW and see if it still gives you a black screen.
that worked can you make one for the touchwiz calendar apk too? I'd love to know what you did to make it and what the difference is so i can do it myself.
The one part that stinks is that the widget on the lockscreen is a feature of TouchWiz lockscreen, as it's not work on stock. Once I flashed the puzzle lock it worked.

(Update 12/22/11) [Bootanimation/Splash] Lightning Vortex w/ animated HTC splash

Hey XDA, been away for a while and just finished my first semester of college. Checked up on my old thread to find alot of positive things. A while back I wanted to do more with this and never got around to it, but figured it was about time I did...
The new animation starts somewhat similarly to the old one with added transition between the HTC logo and the vortex. Also after the vortex, instead of a static image at the end I've thrown together a completely new piece that will loop until the phone finally decides to start.
This version also uses JPGs rather than PNGs. I just found out JPGs could be used the other day... After optimizing the PNGs, (something that wasn't considered for the old one) this new one comes out to a total of 234MB... (one of those things that happen when you only use AfterFX for the project...) If anyone would like this anyway... Let me know and I'll put it up somewhere.
I also made a basic splash screen, something that was misadvertised with the old version. It is the first image in the attachments and can be installed thru bootloader. (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?37e8as4f4m68cwu)
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?w1ci9p2ugk7271d
If you would like the stock sound to use with this download it from the attachments below, extract the mp3 and add it to /system/media.
GIFs were 4-5MB each so heres a video instead...
Old version has been moved to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20568970 if anyone wants to check it out.
Thanks for the link, and if you get a chance to try it out let me know how you like it
This is [email protected]$$! Way better then the stock bootanimation
Great work!

I personally used clockwork recovery and did install sdcard/update.zip
Place the update.zip from the download onto the root of the sd card, then in ROM manager, reboot into recovery and install the update.
There are alternatives to this such as just putting the bootanimation.zip into the right folder using root explorer, but I ran into permission problems so I did it this way.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Is this new boot animation really 24MB? Like, I yanked it out of the update .zip because I normally move them with Root Explorer. I find easier, and I have a system to doing this where I save the old ones in the folder and just rename them. Allowing me to swap them out at will by simply altering the name of the bootanimation . zip back to that.
-Edit- NVM. I see why it's 24MB now.
Holy effing sh!t cakes! That's a lot of graphical content to run through there in the beginning. Looks awesome though!
Again, just to anyone reading this that hasn't tried this boot animation yet.
THIS BOOT ANIMATION IS AWESOME!

Glad you like it. I would have done the same using root explorer, but I ran into read only and permission problems for anything i tried to use it with. And I really tryed to lower the size the best I could... It was originally 165mb, then found out it was rendering w/o compression (lossless), changed render settings managed to get to 95mb... to get it to 24mb I lowered the quality a little more and it skips every other frame. After uploading it I attempted to make it smaller but all i can do is lower the quality even more, and at 17mb it looked pretty bad.
PS- could someone link me to the stock FinalThunder.mp3 I haven't had it since I flashed my ROM

No I wasn't *****ing about the size. I was checking to make sure I didn't bork something up extracting it. I was just verifying as most of them are 2-6MB.
Here's the Final Thunder .mp3
I ripped it right from the system folder with RE so it should be good. Make sure you check the permissions though. As they may need to be altered to get it to jive with the way it gets read. It should be;
X-X-[0]
X-[0]-[0]
X-[0]-[0]
I think.
X meaning checked.
I had to rar it to post it.
Edit: Yes, that's the way the permissions need to be above, but when it gets extracted it changes them to;
[0]-[0]-[0]
X-X-X
X-[0]-X
So if you just drop it in there it probably WON'T WORK. Make sure you change the permissions!
Again, thanks for the awesome boot animation!
Thanks, I just now noticed the mount r/w button at the top of root explorer >.>
I also did all of this before I saw the post edit, so I did just throw it in there, but it still worked =o

Hardly a fair trade for the kick ass boot animation. But no problem.
Yeah, many moons ago RE owned me until I found that little mount r/w button. After finding it however it's been an extremely useful tool.
I'm surprised the MP3 worked for you actually w/o changing permissions. :shrugs: I'm leaving the warning there in case someone else downloads it for the same purpose and it doesn't.
Which file or folder do i drop this into to make sound work. I am on gingeritis and had to delete the VZW_bootanimation and there is no sound once i swapped that boot animation out with this one?

It's either system/media
or
system/customize/resource
But I think it's system/media
Find the bootanimation .zip and that's where the sound file should go.
I tried putting it system/customize/resource and that didnt do anything so i will try system media I guess just put in the main file or any one of the sbu files I have
audio
GPU
weather
folders in there will try a few i guess?

If anyone wants to try this, it is a zip of the vortex boot animation hopefully with the sound. It is for anyone running a rom that has a boot animation in the system/customize/resource folder and the boot animation is labeled VZW_bootanimation.
Let me know how it goes please
My apologies if the OP does not want this and will take down if asked
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9663029/VortexBootAnimation.zip
I got the animation to work, but no thunder. Tried everything! I think it may be my current set up (gingeritits and imosyons 2.5.4.test.4 kernel) since day one, there's been no sound. It came with the old school PC looking bootanimation and I read somewhere that, that boot ani is supposed to sound like a disc drive spooling up with clicks n what not, but it never did. I remember on the virus Rom I had, it DID have sound and the .mp3 was called VRsound.mp3. I made my own, fixed permissions, renamed it to VRsound.mp3 and replaced it. That worked. I could be wrong, but because this ROM didn't come with sound in the first place, I just can't get it.... Oh well. Still a tight boot! sound or not!

No sound in nadlabak's CyanogenMod 9

Hello!
I've downloaded the latest version of CyanogenMod 9 from android(dot)doshaska(dot)net/cm9
Because my phone is a bit damaged, I had to change the `init.mapphone_umts.rc` script in `/system/etc/2ndboot/ramdisk`
Here's my version (some things commented, some added): pastebin(dot)com/NZv307H9
About that "damage": some day (a few months ago), my phone just stopped working (bootloop); IIRC - it has had installed nadlabak's CM7.
After a few days, I've bring it back to life, but still sometimes (but rarely) weird things were happening: eg.I coudn't listen to the music, couldn't talk or had to restart it, because it just hanged.
Two days ago I thought to install a new version of Cyanogenmod into it.
CM10 didn't work at all (without modifications it was just hanging on Cyanogenmod's loading animation, and if I changed the `init.mapphone_umts.rc` (eg.just added a comment), it didn't start).
So I tried CM9; after changing the `init.mapphone(...)` script few times and manually running `mediaserver` using `adb` from my computer, it finally ran and opened the Android's launcher. Almost perfect.
I said `manually running mediaserver`, because it couldn't start automatically (`logcat` just displayed "Waiting for service media.audio_policy..." forever) and when I tried to add it into the `init.mapphone(...)` script, it didn't worked (there still were the "Waiting for service..." messages).
So, summing this long post:
- audio is not working (both: my music from SD card and those internal sounds in Android, like dialpad's sounds).
- `mediaserver` have to be run manually from `adb`
I've been trying to fix this for 2 days, but the only thing I did is just that the Android almost-successfully ran.
Here I also add a `AOL_main.ap.bin` log from that success run: pastebin(dot)com/bkFQ9GHg
BTW: I have a nandroid backup from that old Android version (before I upgraded it into CM9), and there the sound works (but eg.Google Play does not), so I have a double mess in my head :/
BTW 2: I know it's a bit difficult to help me (as you eg.cannot check some things by yourself and I write things a bit unclearly (I'm from Poland)), so if you need any logs or something, let me know and I'll upload it.
Ask around on the #milestone-modding irc channel. Maybe nadlabak and the others could help.
Ok, but how could I log there?
(I'm not good at IRC-things )
The easiest way is via THIS web-client.
Just type #milestone-modding to the Channels.
Ok, thanks
You should be more patient and stay logged to irc channel a bit longer while waiting for an answer .
The primary cause of your issue seems to be that the content of your phone's pds (or at least a part of it) has been deleted.
Did you intentionally deleted some files from /pds (or /config , which is just a symlink to /pds) in the past?
Do you have a back up of those files?
(Some of them - like e.g. /pds/bp_nvm/File_PDS_IMEI - are per phone specific [and signed] and can't be restored using the files from other devices.)
