[Q] Odin didn't recognize the SGS - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm about to Flash to 2.3.3 firmware.. but the problem is that after i put my SGS into download mode the Odin didn't recognize my SGS (ID:COM) didn't display YELLOW.., but while i'm on normal mode every time i connect to my laptop Odin always recognize it..
Please help...
Thanks

Start Odin after connecting the phone and the laptop has already 'seen' the phone.

It's recognized my phone, but once i turn it too download mode by " Volume down+Home+Power) and connect to laptop again.. it's never recognized...

Try running Kies in the background then connect and see what Odin says .
jje

Disconnect SGS USB cable... Close Odin. And update your SGS drivers!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
-> Restart PC.
-> Open Odin, put in your files
-> Connect USB cable to PC, THEN to the SGS! (First PC, then Phone)
-> Hopefully you should see Yellow COM!
PS: While in Download Mode, and when connected to PC... Windows may download/update some more drivers. Let it happen! Do not disconnect!

There are two version (*86) and (*64) which one should i choose?

Never had this problem but can suggest few things
1. uninstall kies and reinstall SGS drivers only (Google them, they are available on net)
If doesn't work
2. do a factory reset and try with Odin
3. if not, restore the phone, if you have backup on Clockwork mode recovery.
As i said, never experience this issue, so just suggesting

x86 is for 32-bit Windows, and x64 is for 64-bit Windows!
To check what you own, Right-click on "My Computer" -> Properties -> And see what's written, 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64)
Also, try uninstalling Kies, and install only the drivers posted on that link!
While running Odin, it is recommended that Kies should not be running, even as a service!

Okay, but my SGS is not yet rooted, so is there any chance the Odin didn't recognize my phone due to unrooted device??

i've got the same problem, cant upgrade to gingerbread because of it...tried everything suggested in this thread..even restored a backup i made using clockwork recovery...spent 3 weeks googling and restoring my phone reinstalling drivers e.t.c...ive given up and im stuck on froyo 2.2.1 XXJPY.

Rooted mobile or not rooted, no difference, odin shd recognize, u may try another version of odin or use update.zip or root it to install a custom rom, guessing, u might be missing some bootloaders

Thanks.. For today i tried many ways... Tomorrow I'll try again... I somehow use to rooted my sgs using odin... But utter was long time ago and i couldn't remember.

See under galaxy s general forum ...howto(ref)(faq)...... Rooting is explained there, use update.zip procedure

Hope that works

Odin stopped detecting my sgs, any ideas?

Don't know why but Odin (1.3, 1.53 and 1.7) stopped seeing my phone.
Running it in Win XP, from a Virtualbox under Ubuntu 10.10
Has been running fine so really no clue what's going on.
Strange thing is that Heimdall does work, sees the phone, no probs.
Maybe I changed or deleted something, drivers maybe but I can't recall having changed anything other than some proposed XP updates.
I would like to get Odin recognizing my sgs again so any help would be appreciated!
When you are in Odin, Have you checked KIES is NOT running in the icon tray ??
if you have:
try a different USB port, this happens to me occasionally (weird eh! )
if that fails, try to un-install KIES (if you have it) and then re install it, this should also re install the drivers.
if you dont fancy doing all of that, the drivers are available to download here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
Hi, thanks for the quick response.
Kies is completely disabled, only used it once to move to Froyo. I ran the driver update and Odin just worked ever since. It's not the usb port cause Heimdall is working fine on it, btw, switched and and it makes no difference.
I just reinstalled the drivers once more, booted and still odin doesn't see the phone, Heimdall does...
Damn, frustrating. Now what?
I wouldn't bother with trying to run Odin on Ubuntu. I use heimdall on Ubuntu and its less risky than Odin and gives you more pick and mix options!
Its just untar-ing a few files...

i had the same problem, but then i found out i had to re-register with kies, so that my computer would pick up my phone when in download mode. so i backed up with kies so my phone was recognised, and then went into to download mode and let odin work its magic with darkys rom

Kies doesn't work on Ubuntu. Lets face it kies barely works on windows
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Kies does work in XP in Virtualbox in (Linux yippee!) Ubuntu.
I would still like to get to the bottom of this. I will continue with Heimdall in virtualbox/xp (I couldn't get Heimdall to work under Ubuntu &!^!%!!) but will remove and reinstall Kies and see how that pans out. Thanks for the tips!
Don't Move Cabel Once phone in Download mode if odin is still not detecting check that you have installed drivers and remove battry from phone then again go to download mode

Bricked even with download mode ?

Hi All,
here is the story, I was on MilkyS GB rom, made a ndriod backup, then flashed dark knight 2.1 then wiped , flashed DK3 w/ Semaphone. Today, I was going to flash stock JVU via Odin but while I was charging up the phone I already noticed Windows was showing error saying something like ' USB device is malfunction cannot install' , so I thought that must be a DK3 bug for not able to access to the SD card, so I did not care.
Went ahead and tried to flash Odin, sure enough Odin did not detect my phone, so did Google and found 'Gnex USB drivers' which by the way took forever to install, while waiting , I thought I might as well just go back to MilkyS GB by using the backup I have done before, so I went in recovery tried to restore, but not successful, so I went ahead and choose reboot....now I am stuck at the boot screen, pull battery, I can go into download mode , however, Odin cannot detect the phone so I still can NOT flash anything.... (just now tried all kinds of drivers I can find, CM7 USB driver, Google usb_driver_r04-windows, even installed the drivers within Andriod SDK, still can't detect the phone..)
Any suggestions ? am I out of luck ? by the way, tried installing drivers in 3 x different laptops and with different USB port on them...
Have you tried a different USB cable? Also ensure KIES is not running & that there are no KIES processes running in the background. Make sure no other usb devices connected to the pc. I've also heard Windows 7 64bit can be the issue sometime but not sure so maybe try a windows xp pc.
Also try disabling any antivirus/firewall on the pc. I had this is issue but for me restarting pc and using a different USB port did the trick.
Should you figure out the USB issue you can't actually restore a Gingerbread backup from ICS.
You will need to get a stock rom (darky resurection should also work) and flash with ODIN. You will need a 3 file stock rom (pda, phone, csc) & 512 pit file.
From here you will need to select all files into relevant places, check repartion and run ODIN. Sometimes I've also needed to flash a second time with just the 3 files and repartition unchecked.

thanks scubadude for your reply. Yes, tried 2 x cables, 3 x laptops and all the USB ports on the laptops, now trying on a clean XP , AV disabled PC still no go.
I know the Odin 3 file process and so on and I kind of know that I can't flash GB on top of ICS that is why I attempt to flash stock in Odin but I guess I was just impatient to wait for the stupid Samsung driver to be installed and made a stupid mistake...

I guess you have tried going back in recovery mode using the 3-button combo but that is also not working?
Odin isn't recognizing your phone but does windows recognize it? If you uninstall all samsung drivers and then try to connect your phone to PC does it ask for installation of drivers? .. if it doesn't that means your phone's usb could have become faulty.. (just speculating)
Or you can try to use Heimdall instead of Odin.. maybe that'll work for you..

Try using Heimdall for mac or linux. It does the same as Odin with no drivers.
Also try cleaning the contacts in usb port on the phone with a small brush(this worked for me when I had similar problems).

thanks tried Heimdall Frontend suite 1.3.1 , also tried Zadig.exe included in the package, the computer still does not detect the phone in download mode.
btw , I have also already use Android SDK to install the Google USB driver....see attached.
Had a similar situation.
Eventually used EZbase's "Odin" version and it worked using the drivers he linked to.

Try using Heimdall for linux. The windows version depends on drivers while the linux does not need drivers.
Also try turning USB-debugging on. Some people report that this is needed for download mode, though I don't see how this can make a difference as the OS is not loaded when using download mode.
If this doesn't work I think you have a hardware problem.
EDIT: Don't use WM-ware etc for the above. I think an Ubuntu live CD will be fine.

[Q] Odin doesn't detect my Galaxy Mini

I recently decided to flash a custom ROM on my Galaxy Mini. So i downloaded Kies, Odin 4.38, tass.ops and Clockworkmod, installed Kies, closed it, launched Odin, set everything, booted the device in download mode and when i connected it to my Laptop Odin simply didn't detect it. No yellow box, no alert, absolutely nothing.
The device already had Android 2.3.6 preinstalled, i didn't even touch the OS.
I already looked everywhere, but found no solution by myself.
Help would really be appreciated
Try uninstalling the Samsung usb driver from control panel then reinstalling it.
Edit: or use another cable and port.

When u installed kies, did u sync with ur mobile? Cause when u sync, it installs all the neccessary drivers. Or you could try downloading the drivers manually. Be sure to kill KIES when using odin cause they are sworn enemies
You didn't mention whether you installed mobile drivers or not!!! Try installing drivers once again. Then things will go on correctly.

If Still can't, Something wrong with your computer, like virus Ramnit in odin.exe
you can Run odin but odin can't do anything to detect even you installed your usb driver.
Just open can't read port and scan usb port.
To solved the problem try another PC.
But don't copy odin or usb.exe
to PC you want use.
Just One you can copy firmwares file zip or tar.md5

Odin not recognize my SG I9000 in download mode

Hi. After official upgrade with Kries, from Froyo (2.2) to Gingerbread (2.3.6), Odnin won't recognize my phone (SG I9000) in download mode. Also, now in download mode get message "Can't access to /system/csc/SWC/system", When phone boots up in normal mode, odin recognize phone properly and in odin get message "ADDED". Kies also recognize phone. Window also recognize phone properly.
I tried on three different PC, three different USB cable, reinstall drivers and nothing changed.
I want root phone and install unofficial ROM. Now, is there now any way install to root phone and install another ROM ? Tnx

Any help to achieve that ?
From microSD, Bluetooth, WiFi or any other method ?
Thanks in Advance.
To do all that you need Odin to recognise it.
Can you try in another computer?
There is no need to install Kies for that.
You can download this driver (for 32 bit windows)
http://code.google.com/p/insanity/downloads/detail?name=SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe
For all its worth, try installing this driver in your current computer and see if Odin detects it in download mode.
You need to be in download mode.
