i have dropbox and it works, but how do i open ebooks in the nook app? i dont know how to access the downloaded files from dropbox
Download the dropbox app from market. Then open up dropbox from your nook and download the pdf. You can open the pdf document with an app from adobe or an app like ezpdfreader.
well i put epub (standard nook format) in my dropbox acct. i can download the file but id ont know where it downloads to nor can i open them in the nook app.
If you are talking shipment you might use Aldiko app to read them. It provid so the ability to import and read your downloaded ebooks into its library from the dropbox directory.
You get the files there by tapping them in the dropbox, which downloads them to York tablet locally

You have to move documents to /sdcard/Nook/MyDocuments/ in order to sideload into the nook application. Took me forever yesterday to find the documentation on that. Furthermore, can't figure out how to get cover art to display.
Dropbox downloads are stored in a folder on the SD Card. You can get to it by going to Menu -> Library, My Files (tab), Select Memory Card, then find the dropbox folder.
My dropbox folder gets stored in:
/mnt/emmc/dropbox. *Not on my sdcard*
Making dropbox unusable for me
use calibre to download metadata and transfer. very simple and easy. dropbox is OK if you don't want wires. but calibre brings all of the metadata and organization.

Hi folks
So I am running a rooted Nook Color (thank you Autonooter!)
I have installed Overdrive both via the Android Market and also via the local library site in case there was a weird version issue. When I click to download an epub book from my library the browser instead of invoking Overdrive to download the book displays the URN information for the book download. There seems to be no way to get books downloaded. I tried making the default browser the Nook one vs using Dolphin HD but the same occurs.
I installed the same config on my Droid X and Overdrive kicked in and downloaded the book.
Anyone else tried checking out books via their library and had any success. I wonder if this is an issue due to rooting but wanted to get some feedback before resorting to going all the way back to stock (I just got this thing configured how I wanted it too!)
Thanks for any insight!
Chris

I am a heavy overdrive user for both epub books and audio books.
I can download epub books to my android phone just fine, but i have to download the books to my nook via Adobe digital editions on my laptop.
They show up under My Files in the NC library.
Make sure to register your adobe de onlineon your PC and on your NC.
Please post if you need further help.
It Works...
The text stuff that you see is the text of the associated ascm file in Overdrive. Do the following:
I am using the following method on a rooted NC and using either Aldiko or Overdrive Media Console with no probs whatsoever. I use these because I like to read my epubs in landscape mode and for some totally inexplicable reason the BN reader can't do this!
You must have Astro File Manager installed (free in the Market). Astro allows you to add new file extensions by the following preferences:
Astro settings>Data>Edit File Extensions>New
Extension Name: epub (no period)
MIME Type: application
Subtype: epub
Then Save
Now when you double-click on the ebook file it will ask for whatever reading program you want to use to read, i.e., the reading app that is on your Nook Color. If you have Desktop Visualizer installed (also free in the Market) you can even make a shortcut for your book on your [rooted] Home Screen, e.g., I am using Zeam launcher for my home screen.
That sounded promising but it looks like I am just getting the URN/URL for the eBook and not the actual file downloading so the association does not seem to work. I currently have the default browser set rather than Dolphin but both behaved in the same manner.
Any other ideas? Am I missing something else.
Thanks for the response I'm really looking forward to getting this working!
EDIT: I also rebooted afterwards in case it needed a fresh boot for the new extension

In the text/ address that I see when clicking download the book I saw application/epub+zip so I tried editing the epub extension via Astaro to try that vs just application/epub
Did not make a difference. Agh!
I wish I could cut and paste the screen/text to better show what I am getting.

In the browser (I use Dolphin) go to "More>Save Page or Save" and save the text - then click on it w/Astro. You want to save the actual text, not the URL
IYep, that worked for me. The only hang up left for me is the fact that books downloaded directly to the NC can't be read with the book's reading app. It does not recognize the drm like it does if they are sideloaded from a PC running adobe digital editions. Can that be corrected?
Ok got the epub files working but via adding another extension type of ascm so that this kicked in the Overdrive application. I then tried to download a drm'd PDF file as the other book I wanted happened to be in this format- this one fails as Overdrive says it cannot open/read the PDF file format.
Man this seems to be a very haphazzard way to get at content - I am a PC tech so wonder what chance Joe Public stands!!
Thanks for the extensions pointer that's got me almost there!

Can somebody please help me with setting up overdrive to associate with ACSM files? I installed Astro File Manager, but what do I choose for subtype and type?
I still can't het my library books to work with overdrive. I have overdrive installed. I have it authorized for Adobe Digital Editions. When I go download a book from my local library, I get a text file in my browser. I have saved it, and it has extension acsm, but I can't seem to be able to do anything with it.
Please help!
Thanks!
I fixed my problem (partially). I deleted the acsm file assocation I had entered in Astro File Manager. Next time I clicked on a downloaded acsm file, Overdrive Media was launched and it worked.
The only issue now is: how come I cannot launch overdrive media from the browser (stock, or Dolphin HD), when I click on an acsm file download link?
As it stands, I have to download the acsm file (save it), and then open it in Astro.
I want to install a pdf reading app from the market to read pdfs. But I'm not sure where to put them on the nook so that the pdf program will see them. It's not seeing the ones that I'm able to read with the nook UI. Anyone have any ideas? Where does one put documents one wants to read on the rooted portion?
I have placed my pdf docs on either the internal document directory or the external document directory. My pdf application has been able to see and read them in both locations.

Sorry, I'm talking about a rooted nook. Should have mentioned that.
Rooted Nook will see docks incl. pdfs in either internal or external Documents folder.

Not in the adobe pdf app I just downloaded from the market. I'm trying to use a downloaded app because I don't like how basic the one on the nook is. But unfortunately the one I downloaded in the market doesn't read the pdfs I have internally on the nook.
Any ideas?

Move or copy the pdfs in the internal directory to the sdcard directory (Astro from market is good for this type of thing) .. BTW which app is that .. seems strange it won't navigate to the internal directory??
The app is the Adobe Reader app.
And there seems to be a partition that the app reads from on the sd card since rooting that won't hold very much data.
Hey all,
Have a rooted nook, and I would like to know if an app is out there that can download a book cover (from amazon/bn/wherever) and load it up on the BN reader so it is associated with PDF file.
Ideas? Thanks!
BN reader doesn't support PDFs

Nook app doesn't read PDFs - only ePubs. The usual suspects read PDFs of course. The ease of reading PDFs is defeated by its inability to save pages, to highlight, to remember where you were. Etc.
Sorry m8!
PDFs perform well when opening them from a file explorer, like ES file explorer, and opening the file with the B&N Reader app. This is not the same as opening or accessing the file from the Library app. Using the reader app, you can see the book cover and use bookmarks. Reading and page turning also is better. Also, larger PDFs seem to open a little better from the internal memory.
Does anyone know any apps that can open .mobi files? I have a bunch of ebooks but I'm not sure what app can open it
Thanks

MobiPocket Reader. Looks like it is right protected format so there is probably nothing that can read it.
See here: http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/MOBI
Amazon Kindle app will read MOBI files.
After you install Kindle app, just drop ebboks into the kindle folder that is created on your SDCARD. You may need to close and reopen Kindle to see the ebooks.
Cheers
Stu
Perfect thanks
Calibre, a free program on the PC, can also convert a mobi file into just about anything you want, such as epub. Then you can read them in your ebook reader of choice.
To make it easy to then move them onto your Android phone, many popular reader apps (like my fave, Moon+ Reader) access your Calibre library directly if you are on the same wifi network, and Calibre has their own app for accessing your library from an Android device.
I tried to send an epub through Gmail to my Zoom and the attachment wasnt recognized. I have the Kindle, Reader, Google Books and FBReader apps installed. (Gmail did recognize it on my desktop computer.)
Any help?
I tried uploading the same epub file to my drop box, it seems to be in the list of books, but when I select the book it says there is an unknown error downloading epub to dropbox.
Any help?
hmmmmm, dropbox creates a folder on your device titled dropbox.
Use a file navigator (Linda/Astro etc) to navigate to the folder and see if it's there. I normally use this method as on my xoom for epubs, no idea why the normal UI method fails, annoying though.
