Hi guys I've tried searching the forums for this but I haven't had any luck.
Under Android the Xperia's keyboard is set up like a keyboard from the US/UK or whichever. How can I change the mappings of the hardware keyboard to include German-specific characters (ö,ä,ü,ß,etc.)?
Thanks for your help,
Doug
I found a post here on XDA, I need it, too.
I have typed so much with the qwerty layout it's not so important for me
You can try it, and tell if it worked

as far as i know theres no t9 in qwerty keyboards except for word suggestions after you type a letter but you can activate that going into the menu good luck
That´s very easy. There are lots of freeware solutions!!! just search in this forum or:
Try the Original HTC phone pad (multilanguage) : http://www.gaehn.org/uploads/downloads/Dark_PhonePad_Int.zip
Or try the HTC KeyboardDual Multilanguage:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344533
After installing one or both, go to Settings/Input, chose the keyboard and change in options the language!
Both are very good. I use them as well!
Or search with google for freeware!!!
Hello

What country are you from? I have a Tilt, from USA, with a non-ATT ROM. I had the same issue you describe but as soon as I applied the TaurusBulba Keyboard Fix my keyboard was working appropriately.
UK
ya i used that already.
like i said, it did fix the keyboard in the phonepad
but it screwed up the function keys
i tried to set the keyboard layout in registry to the UK setting
still no change
I installed a ahmedkry's WM 6.5 ROM (WWE) and I've been trying to find a way to type greek characters using the software / hardware keyboard. I am not interested for greek ROM translation, greek menus, greek dictionaries etc. Just typing support as 2nd language (replacing the current ones: àáââäåæç).
I have already tried some registry key changes (HKCU/MUI/CurLang) to 0408 and software reset but it doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas?
Moved as not ROM Development.
Software keyboard kinda solved, by installing a 3rd-party keyboard (Zoomboard) which supports multiple languages.
However, I'm still looking for greek layout support for the hardware keyboard of TyTN II. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to share.
Thank you.

Need it myself also...just updated to win 6.1.
AEKMap (h**p://ae.inc.ru/aekmap.php) or AE Keyboard Mapper should solve the problem for you. It maps external keyboards. There are preset greek layouts that you can download from the site. My Xperia X1 works that way.
Hello all,
I have a G1 which, I assume, was originally German as the physical keyboard layout is QWERTZ instead of QWERTY.
I have set my Locale to Ireland and the Z and Y keys work as I would expect them on a QWERTY keyboard (I can ignore the legend on the keys) but my problem is the keys that need ALT pressing, they are mapped to, I assume, the Locale (Ireland) but the legends on the keys are not. So, If I press ALT and E the keyboard legend is the Euyo symbol but I get an underscore. I assume that on UK or Ireland QWERTY keyboards, the legend printed on the key is underscore.
Most of the time this is not a problem but editing documents or using terminal is a real pain!
Is there any way to change the mappings so the symbol I gewt is the same as the legend on the key (without changing my locale to Germany!)
Hope someone can help (by the way I am an Android Newbie having spent many many years on Windows Mobile) so please go easy on me!!!!!
Mike
anyone can help????
I personally have no idea how to do this but I think I can point you to the right people.

PM original posters of either thread and they should be able to help you out.
Also, some alternative input methods on the market have the ability to map keys as well, you may want to look into it although I don't know which ones are good.
Good luck.
hi,
I tried several ROMs here, but with none I could get a Swiss-German keyboard layout to work. I tried to modify several registry entries (as it was proposed in some post in this forum), but it did not help and sometimes even completely disabled my keyboard.
Does anyone know how to change the keyboard layout to Swiss_German? I also tried German, since its similar, but even that did not work.
Do I need additional files in order to do that?
Hi monnom!
I had the same problem with using WWE ROMs, so I had to solve it.
Found out that it is easy to be done by changing the registry with, e.g. Total Commander.
Go to: HKLM/Hardware/Devicemap/Keyb/CurLang
There you change the value to the one you like. For me as a german its (hex) 407.
Soft reset afterwards and you have a german keyboard. Google the hex value for swiss german, should be 807 ;-)
Cheers!
read here for some details
pls drop a quick note if that answers your question
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
I already did those registry modifications - and more, as some threads here suggested. But nothing worked. So I extracted a Swiss ROM and looked for the keyboard map. But all I could find were German language files. So I changed the locale to German, and it worked. I guess the Swiss-German and German keyboard are the same - unlike the PC keyboards (a Swiss-German and a German PC keyboard are different).
So if anybody else has a similar problem, my recommendation would be: check whether other languages have the same keyboard mapping and then use that locale.
