Lets starts with a few Question about this unofficial Sprint Release...
I download the RUU Update, but....
Wallpaper Live are not working...
Bluetooth cannot send or recibe...
Any suggetions?
There are no live wallpapers in the release. It's unlikely that Sprint will ever include them.
The BT problem has been discussed in the dev forum but there isn't a fix as of yet. I certainly hope this isn't the official release.

HTC will likely not put this in for our device, You will have to dig around here to hack it in manually or wait for an update.zip for it.

Actually about that I ran the ruu to on one of my heros and you can flash an update.zip in recovery on the new recovery just has to be signed with release keys (by the way not trying to be a **** I read my statement and that's how I sound). The only thing is it has to be htc release keys as of my little knowledge
Just wondering if the new leaked sprint 2.1 update will work on the normal HTC Heros? Because mine doesnt have a set provider.....
Has anyone tried the new update on a none sprint HTC Hero?

bad idea if you run the new ruu you could lose the ability to use internet and mms if it doesn't have your apn settings in it. And since there is no way to root 2.1 unless you know how to make an exe and an hboot file. You could be screwed till the official release.

Your probably right and I'll tell you why sprint makes money if we don't have those things. Also if you look at the samsungs update (which the samsung has a better processor than ours) it doesn't have them.

That makes no sense..... you need a custom recovery to flash update.zips. If you try to boot into recovery you'll get the exclamation point.

No your wrong Did you run the ruu? Turn off your phone and then press home and power. You'll get a phone with a triangle and exclamation point. Then push home and power again. There you are
Ok I took the plunge and tried the official 2.1 and now I want to root however I am having all kinds of problems. When using fresh kitchen I get:
Asroot push failed: * daemon not running. starting it now *
ADB server didn't ACK
* failed to start daemon *
error: cannot connect to daemon
When using the command prompt and entering adb shell I get:
* Daemon not running. Starting it now*
ADB server didn't ACK
*failed to start daemon
error: cannot connect to daemon
Checked netstat and nothing is running on 5037
I tried flashing the official 1.5 ruu with no luck either....
Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks
any thoughts or suggestions.
If you ran the signed sprint one, you can't root. You didn't follow directions.
tell us which file you ran and maybe we can decide if this is even worth pursuing.
..... hummm did not see that in the dev forum. Can I roll back to 1.5 and root from there. I did use the official signed update :-/
Nope.
You're stuck until either someone roots 2.1 or you get another phone.

you didnt see in the forum that you cant reroot 2.1? or roll back to 1.5? i call bs, its all over this place.
You can't root the old way because it patched asroot2... You can't use the 1.5 RUU because the hboot doesn't take kindly to being downgraded... so, you're screwed until we root that.

Thanks for the info
I like to run head first into things....I don't learn lessons.
I'm new to Android. I had a Pre and was big into webOS for a while...well now I have a Hero. Saw the 2.1 leak and though "hey, I'll just grab that there RUU file...its got to be easy to root!" Why am I so awesome?!
This post is sarcastic but I assure you, I am this stupid. I hope someone roots this soon. I'm new to Android and I'm getting nowhere trying to figure it out on my own.
I would just wait for the EVO but I don't get my upgrade until September so its not really worth shucking out the bucks for a new one on 6/4...it'd be nice to have tethering and Skype and of-the-such on this here Hero.

yep. And yes, you can run it straight off your data. have a friend who works for voipo that is helping write a voip app for android right now.
What are the odds you can do what they do with the droid?

I know there was no 2.0.1 for hero and that this is a droid rom but I am taking a shot in the dark.

Not the best idea to start shoving things into your phone if you have no idea what they are doing...especially if they are made for other devices.
On second thought, it might help justify a new Evo purchase if you brick your Hero.

So why is the leak rooted but the final was not? Aren't they the same?
If you had run the RUU from the leak you would be in the same boat.
It's easy to KEEP Root and install new update zip. ROOTING a phone with the RUU is a different matter.

how many times are you gonna ask this? you remind me a LOT about some clown who kept asking if anyone knew if the "leak" was the same as the "official" sprint rls.

So what droid does, is down grade the phone to a previous OS version. I am sure they are doing something special to get it to go back. They must have figured out how to sign the file or something.
To do this we would have to modify RUU to Load a 1.5 OS/Kernel on a 1.47(?) hboot. But also to do this, we have to be able to sign the files with a release key.
The whole reason that the 1.56 RUU doesn't work anymore is because of the HBoot version > than what it is trying to load.
I guess its POSSIBLE to get the 2.1 RUU to load a 1.5 OS, but I don't think we are able to sign the files like HTC does and the RUU will fail without that.

Neither the leak or the official was rooted. The files where extracted and root was patched, busy box was installed by a dev here.
There may have been a leak several weeks ago that still had root because ti was a test rom.
The WILL not include root in an official build...that is one reason why this community even exists.
There is an international beta of Skype for Android and Verizon has an app. I'm pretty sure there should be a way to make the app think you're using a Verizon phone so the app'll work. Same goes for the FiOS apps. Again I'm new to Android and haven't messed too much with the platform. I need to learn a bit more before I can really say this with confidence.
I have my phone rooted and long story short wiped my backup from the sd card of my stock rom.
I have been looking unsucessfully for a stock rom for my carrier online and have yet to find one.
I am on the MTS Allstream network in manitoba canada.
wwwDOTmtsDOTca if you want to see the carrier (sorry not allowed to post links cause I am a net poster)
if anybody could help would be greatly appreciated.
Am a bit of a noob to this but could this be a simple fix as in somebody just copying their existing backup from their phone and emailing me a copy so I could put it on my sd card and boot from that.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Do you need the actual stock ruu that came on your phone, or are you just wanting sense to be able to update prl and profile? If it's just to update, any sense rom can do that for you.

RUU=ROM Upgrade Utility Basically Referring to the "Stock Rom/Upgrade Rom"!
Also may I ask exactly what you mean by Simple Fix? Is your phone currently Functional? Or are you just looking to Replace what you Erased for Piece of Mind? Let me know... I'll try my Best to Help!

Yes I am very happy with Cyanogenmod. It is amazing and has made my phone run great. The stock rom it was running kept getting lots of lag and hanging if that makes sense. (pun intended)
Anyways I just want to get the original back because if I want to change phones or switch I dont know if my carrier will help me with the current mod on it.
Thanks for the help guys
Hello guys and thanks for any help.
i got a hero cdma non sprint, but i learn how to root it with u guys in xda.
i root a few hero's but by mistake y use a rom tha install a sprint PRL to the phone.
PRL its 60660 and need to change it to 03494 like my hero. the phone works but the signal its poor and evdo slow. there a way that i can use the PRL from my hero? i got AOSOMOD 0.9.9.2 with froyo.
ok i try to backup my PRL using QPST but when i have to ##3424# and then add the port USB/QC Diagnostic wont dectect it. if i remove detect the phone.
qpst have issues in win 7 x64? did have to do it in xp only thanks.
I think the easiest way is to nandroid backup what you have now... then wipe and flash a sense based rom ... then you can simply go into about phone and update prl like normal... then restore your backup

Manually Load PRL?
Is there not a way to download the latest PRL and manually install without having to go through the trouble of flashing ROMs back and forth? I'm surprised there's not an app for loading these yet.
For those of you looking for cutom PRLs or good instructions on how-to do either a manual update (not the system update in sense) or a manual downgrade, look in the thread by mattcrystal about PRL 60678, and the 2 threads about modded PRLs started by Bierce22.

I've actually never had any luck updating through QPST (it always throws back an error when writing to the phone). Were you able to get it working?
ive always had diag driver issues
I posted this over at Cyanogenmod Forums and thought I'd post here as well.
I'm running CM7-RC4 and as of yesterday my phone stopped recieving txts. I can send just fine, just can not recieve.
Was using Handcent as my default txt'ing app, then tried uninstalling/reinstalling to see if that would fix it....no dice!
Hoping with all the expertise around here someone might have a solution. Still wont recieve even with stock txt app.
Please help as I can not go without txt'ing. Thanks in advance!
Nand, flash a Sense rom, update prl and profile, send a few texts, receive a few, and nand back to cm. That should take care of your issues. BTW, what it's your prl? Current is 60677.

I'm on my phone, just check the dev thread. Liquidsense or nfx are good choices, I'm told. I still have my original Sense nand from when I rooted, and that's what I use. I would also recommend that you make a nand of the Sense rom before you go back, just so you have one handy for updating.

Dude...worked like a charm!! Still had my original Sprint ROM Nandroid backup tucked away on my laptop. Shuffled it over onto my SDcard and flashed it. Updated PRL and in came a flood of missed texts!!
Will keep that sprint sense rom on my sd card from now on!! Thanks again!!
No problem. Glad to help.

I'm also on CM7 and my PRL is rather outdated, 60671, but nothing appears to be out of order. Should I update my PRL just because, or if it ain't broke don't fix it?
Thanks,

I've been having the exact same problem but this doesn't seem to be working for me. I've made a nandroid backup of my CM7 install, wiped everything, and flashed the latest LiquidSense rom. However, when I go to update the PRL it tells me that : "The application OMADM (process com.htc.android.amadm) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Is there anything I missed or should I try another sense rom/reflashing?
EDIT: I reflashed the LiquidSense rom and now I got all my messages from before. Restored my CM7 nandroid and getting messages again. No idea what happened but as long as it works...
