My solution to turning off USB auto mounting.
After reading nookdevs.com/NookColor_Turn_off_USB_automouting I was unable to get the settings to persist after reboot.
However; after adding the line persist.service.mount.umsauto=0 to the /system/build.prop file the setting seems to survive reboot.
Can anyone else confirm this works or have an alternate method to stop the auto mounting, even after reboot.
Same here, even though I was told creating the file described in the wiki would do the trick, adding it to the build prop seems like it would also work.
I will double check the file name and location and change the page appropriately.
Okay, I think I understand that to get an Adhoc connection on the Nook you have to use a terminal emulator to get all fancy in the file system to flip a setting from 1 to 0 and then back again to go the other way, yes? (not going to try and link the post because that part isn't important)
So, what I'm wondering, is there a way to write a program that would allow you to utilize root access and make that change for you on the touch of a widget? That way you can go back and forth faster and easier?
It couldn't be too hard. I mean for someone who knows more about that sort of thing. I can turn sound on and off and stuff like that, but file system level changes are a little beyond my programming ability. However, the experts here...what do you think?
take a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872521
not really a widget... but it could semplify the switch...
I'm using a nexus one to theter my NC, and with CM7 I'm able to use infrastructure wifi, but not the adhoc (with Wireless Tether app)... I tried all the tricks (replacing wpa_supplicant and/or editing the twlan.ini) but I can only use infrastructure...
do you know which is the difference between this two connection types?
You could use GScript Lite to run the .sh script in the post above, it's not a widget but at least it's only one touch to run the script once you set it up.
I'm still running phiremod v 6.1, and this switch method doesn't work either. Anyone know how to get this going? I don't have wifi at work so I usually tether to my phone. I was able to use the method in that posted thread when I was running rooted stock, but not anymore.
Hello XDA,
I am running on ARHD 5.1, rooted, on the ONE. Using ES file explorer to navigate.
My issues are these:
1) Setting a custom ringtone,
File is located at: sdcard > Ringtones > file.mp3
The file is all lowercase, no spaces.
When I go to Settings > Sound > Ringtone >
The file does not show up, but it does when I press the + icon in the top right.
After choosing this, I get an error message : "Unfortunately, Sound set has stopped".
I've tested out the ringtone (by calling it) and the default is still selected. I will continue to get that error message until I move the mp3 file to a different location. I have also used this ringtone on my SNS, and have played the file on MUSIC, so it isn't corrupted .
2) Setting a custom Notification,
File is located at: sdcard > media > audio > notifications >
The file is all lowercase, no spaces, mp3
When I go to Messaging > menu (3dot) > settings > notifications > Notification Sound >
The file does not show up.
I've also tried moving the file to:
sdcard >Notifcations
sdcard >Ringtones
But nothing works.
Has anyone encountered this issues? My last phone was quite different so I can't pin down the location for the issues (Phone, OS, ROM...)
Get zedge from the play Store it's will put the tones on for you lot easier that's what I done

Hmm, I tried that out, but I wasn't able to use my one custom files. It seemed as though I had to DL their songs.
But, there should be an easy way to do this w/o any need for apps, shouldn't it?
It should be but I've not tried I've always used zedge i find it the easiest way for me
Unfortunately, there is definitely a problem with the Ringtone/Notification system on the HTC One... at least on the Developer Edition. I can't speak for any of the other flavors.
Placing Ringtones into the normal locations including the following:
/sdcard/ringtones
/sdcard/notifications
/sdcard/media/ringtones
/sdcard/media/notifications
Does not make those files appear in the lists for the standard ringtone/notification sound chooser.
You CAN select those files if you use a third-party ringtone/notification selection app (like ES File Explorer) but there are two problems with this:
1) System Apps (like the stock SMS messaging app) will not give you the option to use a third party ringtone chooser.
2) Other applications WILL let you use a third party chooser (like Gmail and Google Voice) but if you DO use a separate app to choose a ringtone/notification, you will break the built-in notification chooser. That means that every time you try to change a ringtone or notification sounds in a system app, you'll get a force-close message. The only way to fix it is to delete the ringtone file that you selected with the third party chooser.
Hopefully HTC resolves this quickly. While I don't HATE the stock sounds, I have grown accustomed to a specific set of sounds for various accounts and services and would prefer not having to change my routine, so-to-speak.
After various tweaks and tests I've finally fix it.
I can't say with certainty, but it seems as though the files work when I dl'd them on my PC then pushed them to my phone.
For the ringtone, I set it through ES and it rings accordingly.
For the SMS tone, the sound file showed up after a reset.
So, the files are finally working and I am thinking it has something to do with downloading them straight to the phone vs pc. Odd, but it ended up working.
In the past on my sensation/hox/hox + I have always put my custom ringtones/notifications in system/media which is the proper place for them then I have to reboot the device before they become visible.
On this device I did the same and, after reboot, my entries had completely disappeared wtf

I worked with HTC Support last night to further troubleshoot this issue. Here is what I learned:
1) The correct locations for storing custom ringtones and notifications are:
/sdcard/Ringtones
/sdcard/Notifications
2) You must copy the files to this location from your computer via USB. The problem I was encountering was caused by the fact that I was using ES File Explorer to download my MP3 and OGG files from a network share to my phone. While all other applications were able to see and play these files without any trouble, the built-in ringtone/notification chooser will not see files copied onto the device in that way.
Success!

I've been having the same exact frustration. I posted my question in the AT&T One forums (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2247626) and referenced your thread. I thought this was [CLOSED] -- I came here to get your ID to PM you and saw your update (about having to get the files onto the phone via USB). I'm going to try this as soon as I'm able!
Edit:
Copying the files via USB absolutely works :good:.
I turned off USB debugging (in Developer Options) and connected. The phone's "internal storage" appeared under "My Computer" as "HTC One", not as a drive letter, with the "root" being /sdcard (btw I'm running Win 7 Ultimate). I also got a new drive letter for "HTC Sync Manager", showing as a CD drive (with a letter), but that's irrelevant to this.
I just copied files into /Alarms, /Notifications, and /Ringtones using Windows' GUI (both by dragging and Ctrl-C/V). My files were a mix of audio formats and subtypes and I was prompted to convert several of them during the operation, with the warning that "...otherwise [the files] might not play correctly" or something. I let it convert a few just to see what happens -- they get converted to wma -- but the phone had no trouble playing back the unconverted files, either. Indeed, the One was able to use some files that my previous phone could not.
I'm going to link to this post from my own question in the other forum. +1 to you, sir.

Good to see your solution was the same as mine.

My [Edit] above, and also apparently you can copy files to the phone without using USB, and they'll become visible if you plug and unplug USB: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251647

Nice discovery, hopefully some HTC dev will pick up on this.
Okay so all of a sudden I lost ability to copy paste. It selects text but does not copy even when I hit copy, and hence nothing to paste. How do I fix this?
Im using GT P7300.
Restart your phone..can u say it in more detail. You cant copy from browser..can u be more specific??
I did a Google search. Its actually a famous bug common on samsung touchwiz devices and not fixed yet. Also the bug has some connection with using chrome browser. Indeed I recently started using chrome and this bug started after that. Although I have to say that I noticed copy paste issues in general on this tablet but somehow fixes later. But to this totally non-working extent only happened now after using chrome.
The bug either causes the device to hang up and restart on copying. Or the copy paste function simply does not work. Initially my device kept restarting on copying. But now it simply does not paste or copy anything. I can't access the clipboard either. The only known solution requires factory reset or rooting anyone know where the clipboard files are located? The solution basically is to delete the clipboard files.
... that was only visible via Android File Transfer, in the music folder in my internal storage. A string of errors in the program led me to reboot my phone, whereupon the Music folder and 17GB of music was missing. I recreated the Music folder and experienced some of the "random" disconnection errors I used to get with my Atrix 2, so did another reboot, and tried toggling USB debugging (which has for some reason, superstitious or otherwise, helped in the past). The <none> file has recreated itself but still--same problems. Now AFT will crash partway through large transfers. I am currently using Superbeam to rebuild my music library while I type this. Maybe I'll stick with this method, as it works and I can do transfers while sitting on the porch: which I love.
I have searched and searched but perhaps because of some search function syntax convention, I have found nothing.
Anyone?
