I upgraded to insanity 0.71 and lost the option for choosing the ringtone. It only gives me system ringtones possibility. Before i could choose between system and music.
thanks!
Insanity automatically disables media scanning. You can shut that off in Nitrality. You also need to go into your media folders (music/photos/ringtones, etc) and delete the .nomedia files in there. Then reboot your phone.
this seems not to be the problem. on .7 when pressing change ringtone it gave me a popup where i could choose between music or system tones and evem make a default mark, similar to when you have to different sms softwares installed. now it gos straight to system ringtones...

I recently moved the registry path for the ringtones to the storage card and then back to the Windows directory. Now in the sound settings it will recognize the mp3 files but not play them or allow them to be the final selection. I have tried changing the ringtone registry to different locations and in sound setting it will not play or allow selection of any mp3 in any folder. WMA's will still play and are selectable. Any ideas? I really don't want to change the mp3 every time I want a different ringer.
This is driving me mad! For the life of me my Kaiser won't let me change the phone's ringtone from the standard. When I open an MP3 in audiomanager then choose set as ringtone, I get the error message "there was an error copying the ring tone to \my documents\ my ringtones. The ringtone could not be set. Please verify you have enough room on your device and try again", i've even tried manually copying mp3's to the \my ringtones directory, I can view them but they don't play in the ringtone selection screen (they play OK in audiomanager), even if I select a different mp3 in the sounds and notifications screen and select OK, my kaiser defaults automatically back to the standard ringtone. Oh, there's loads of space free as well - about 47mb.
Any ideas?
mp3 extension
Did you change the program for the .mp3 extension?
I noticed the same behaviour when I assigned the mp3 extensions to MortPlayer:
my ringtone would revert back to the default and choosing the mp3 ringtone wouldn't work.
After unchecking the mp3 extension within MortPlayer, I could choose a mp3 ringtone again.
Thanks a lot dude - will give this a go.
I searched the forums and have not been able to find a workable solution. I am currently on Cyanogen 4.0.4 and have a sdcard in which I have an audio-folder containing all audio resources (as well as some custom ringtones).
I want the Music player to ignore the folder. I tried by placing a ".nomedia"-file in the audio-folder (and it's subfolders) but this causes the phone to loose it's configured ringtones/notification sounds.
There is probably an easy way to hide all UI/ringtones and just let the music player have access to the MP3 folder (where all my songs are)?
move the files to system/sd
thanks. I moved them to /system/media/audio and it works. For anyone doing this, reboot your phone and be wait 1-2 minutes until the files appear in the ringtone selection.
Mine are in a folder called "Ringtones" on my SD card and they have always been ignored by music apps.

Totally worked, though I had it like that before but maybe that was before the OTA update & before this issue started.
Thanks for sharing.
I added a .nomedia file to my notifications and ringtones folders to prevent them from being played in the shuffle for the music player. Then I noticed that my phone wouldn't ring or alert me for text and email so I removed the .nomedia file. But there is still no sound. I can play the sound when I am changing sound options. I checked to make sure all the system sounds were up and that sounds are set to play but nothing works.
For 1 isn't it dumb that we should have to hide notification folders and audio book folders from the media player. Shouldn't it just play from the music folder?
And 2, how can I fix my phone now so that it rings and alerts for messages?

I have a ringtones folder located at /sdcard/ (so it is on internal storage) and none of my ringtones show in the media player. I have not tried audiobooks yet, but they could at least be put in one playlist, with all other songs in another playlist - then shuffle. you could even put ringtones in a separate playlist from songs if you can't figure out why they are not hidden.
you must reboot your phone so the system can reindex all media files . . .
Something strange is happening to my phone.
Friend called me and i noticed that ringtone isn't what I set up to be (MP3), it ringed with some random ringtone from android system.
When i started Music Player to reselect MP3, none of my MP3's or other media were showing in Player.
Aslo, when i went to Settings -> Sound -> Phone ringtone none of stock ringtone were there to select, only Silente. The same thing was aslo with Notification ringtone.
I rebooted phone and noticed that Media scanner isn't running at the end of the boot process, only Preparing internal / external storage. As if Media scanner isnt runing at all on my phone and as result doesn't index my media files.
The phone is rooted, but everything on it is stock. I dont use task killers or any other app that enable/disable Media scanner.
This happened from blue sky, one minute everything is fine, other this happens...
Please help!
