Try this method, and you'll get latest youtube app for Eclair.

Hey buddy. I'm looking for the 2.1/Eclair YouTube app. Can you post it here (or send it in a PM)?
Here's the deal. I hate the newer versions of YouTube because they don't save list position when scrolling subscriptions. This causes me to have to start at the top of my subscriptions list after every video, even if I just pop in one to look at the description. However, I remember when I was using the Samsung Captivate (released with 2.1), its YouTube app did remember list position. So, I'm trying to track down its version of YouTube, not the newer versions, but I suppose the original Eclair version. Hope someone can help me out.

Has anyone got you tube to work on the M2D ? I launch the app. The menu screen comes up showing video selections, but when you click on a video to play it, the player comes up and says connecting, then says " error can not play this video "
If you installed it by cab, then good luck. The HTC YouTube application has never worked for me if installed by cab file. I've only gotten it to work when it was cooked into the ROM. Though you might try the official youtube app from m.youtube.com.
Dave
yea it was installed as a cab file when I installed M2D
you may want to try "skyfire" it's a browser that enables you to see videos from www.youtube.com...if you try opening m.youtube.com it doesn't work...i'm using it almost 2 months and no problem so far...i can see anything with no problem..it's also freeware...i'm not sure if i can post a link or attach the file so if you can't find it on google which is very easy btw ask me to send you a pm cheers!

I used to use the Best Tube app for downloading youtube vids for watching offline. After switching to the vegan rom, I went to the market to download the app again and it was missing. several market fix attempts doesn't make it show up, and trying all the reputable app sites show it missing from the market.
Anyone have the apk for it? Or can recommend a good free app from the market that does the same thing and works well with vegan v1 b5.1?
thanks in advance
Check for TubeMate in the market...

When you go to Youtube directly from your browser it pulls up the mobile version m.youtube.com
When you click a link through facebook- it takes you to the main site which does not work on the HD7 due to no flash.
its because facebook links to the desktop (www.) version of youtube, the youtube app adds support for the mobile (m.) version, when you click the facebook link you get directed to the desktop version as the app doesn't catch the link and redirect you to the mobile site.
You have to have both versions of the YouTube app installed. The version that came with the phone is what it tries to launch via links. The HTC version plays nicer quality vids.
So, I use the HTC version when I'm manually surfing YouTube, and the stock one installed so it will launch when I click a link.

except as pointed out by aaronhope1972 and myself the link catch doesn't work from 3rd party apps, which is what the OP was asking about. Personally I just wish they'd get flash ported and we'd not have this problem
Wow, had never tried that and just did.
Sucks.
Interestingly the People Hub Facebook integration part directs to m.youtube, which will subsequently work.
Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated. Its a pity about that.

Yeah not MS at it's finest right there huh
If they'd only actually open a real dialogue with users about what we need from the phones
Nevermind, like 3 topics about this on the first page. My search skills need honing.

I attached to the post 2 screens.
There seems to be no fix. but you can try
1 this opera version and try going youtube to see the (watch video/share video) links under the video
(in this case press the watch video link)
2 use the default youtube app in the media folder of the main start menu and try searching for the title of the video that you want to watch or what you searched earlier...
If these work please press thanks at the bottom of my post =)

The same - not working. I can use my youtube app but I want to play videos in the browser.
erm.. sad to say...
then i can't really think of any other alternatives ... sorry and there are no fixes ever since the android boom started ...
The problem you guys are dealing with is that all you can get is flash lite 3.1 on winmo. That equals flash 7 - which is really old. Current flash version is 11 and most pages demand at least flash 9.
So even if you get your browser to use the flash plugin, it won't be accepted. Solution? Get a new phone or accept it. Hardware isn't up to the task as well.

That's not the problem. I know that the newest version of Flash is 11 but if I can get flash working most of the sites will work fine. First time as I said when I install flash everything is ok. But after reboot no sound and video.
