anyone have a image of the original software, or the .SBF? I want to go back to stock and start over.......... and right now I have CM installed internally. Factory reset (8X power off) ability is long gone.

I'm fairly certain the 8x reboot/restore still works even if you have a custom rom flashed.
But anyway, here is everything you may or may not need.

maybe I am doing it wrong, but nope, doesn't work.
thank you!!!

I've got CM7 running and everything is perfect...But I decided to remove the lockscreen that I had enabled earlier and now the screen is locked and there is seemingly no way to unlock it.
Under the lockscreen settings, I know that I enabled the first and third options thinking that all I would have to do is press the "N" button on the bottom to unlock but nope!
Can anyone help or am I forced to completely reset this.
lol i did the same thing as you to try and see if i could be of any help but i also got stuck at the lockscreen.
the menu button is the two rectangles (to the right of the home softkey) and not the 'n' button. well anyways i tried both the 'n' and the menu soft key and nothing happens. i guess this could be a good excuse to update to the stable cm7 as i dont think this can be undone otherwise
LOL I'm sorry to hear that...I wasn't expecting someone to try the same.
Well, if I have to install a new build, do I simply install over the existing in CWM or do I have to format a section only...I'm happy with the kernel. Do I have to reinstall Gapps?
you can simply reinstall over the existing cm7 build without formatting anything and you dont have to reinstall gapps.
however two things to note:
1. if gapps force close after flashing a newer cm7 build, you will have to reflash the gapps. this has happened very rarely while updating versions of other roms but it has happened.
2. if the lockscreen still stays the same after flashing the new cm7 build, that means that the cm7 settings were not reset. if this is the case, we both will have to do a full system, data and cache format using cwm and then flash cm7. hope it doesnt come to that.
Well you're right...it doesn't reset the system. I'll do the full reinstall tomorrow...thanks though for you help!

already know how to use adb, so your instructions were real easy to follow. cheers mate! saved me formatting system and data
Thanks for the adb suggestion but I'm far too impatient to actually wait for help so I reinstalled everything.
Just as well really as I really wanted to jump to the latest version on a clean install. Everything is running beautifully (again). Thanks to all to those that posted here!
I will send my stock I897UCKB2 phone back when I get a new one due to USB connectivity problems. I plan to search for all files newer than a certain date on the new KB2 and my existing (which is rooted with CWM) and then delete or replace files to get my old phone back to "normal" before sending it back. I don't know if all changes show up in files off of "/" though. I assume bootloaders do not but does everything else? I know some files are updated through normal use but items like turning off boot sounds via SGS Tools (requires root) creates backup sound files, etc which I plan to delete. Should searching for updated files allow me to clean up traces before running "unroot"?
i suggest using the odin3 1-click to go back to stock 2.1 and then master clearing to delete all of the files that arent supposed to be there

I think one of the reasons they haven't released I897UCKB2 via KIES is so they will know if we do that. If they give you a refurb now and you flash anything else, you can not get KB2 back. KB1 (via KIES) may be the same software but KB2 is kind of "signed". If you change it, your done getting refurbs...
I'm speculating but it makes sense to me. Therefore, I am sending it back as KB2 but planning to erase all tracks of root. I'd like to know what others think though, and if they agree, my question is applicable.

Yes thats true. Plus if your phone is above version 1010 it could mess up your phone pretty badly. Im wondering how did you get kb2 in the first place?
edit: I think you can master clear still without going to stock jf6. i think it will just delete all the files and add the needed files back such as sdcard/dcim/ or sdcard/android/

Thanks. I recently got a warranty replacement which is how I have KB2 and it is a 1012 so I agree JF6 would cause problems. I agree a master clear simply formats the internal SD card (user part) so I plan to do that. I'm trying to find how to clear the system file changes such as CWM, superuser, etc

Just wondering what does a hard reset do compared to factory?

I'm wondering the same thing. Does a hard reset wipe basically do a factory reset (clearing user data) and also wipe the internal SD (the 14G compared to the 2G)? I think I read that somewhere but couldn't confirm when searching.
Not sure honestly....but since you're about to wipe your phone do one and see what it did then do the other and post results

Well I tested both of them. Factory data reset (the code you listed) does the same thing as what you see if you choose it under Privacy in settings - You see a dialogue saying it will erase everything, etc. You have to click confirm a couple of times and then you see big red letters about formatting the system. It then reboots in 3e recovery briefly and installs "default apks". The phone has all apps wiped and the internal SD (the 14G) is wiped.
The only difference with the "hard" reset is you don't get the dialogue about erasing everything - it goes straight to the red letters and the result is the same.
Also, the extra files in /system/xbin are still there. Before I did the wipes above, I got the computer to briefly see the phone - if I jiggle the connector on the phone just right and don't touch it -it works (sometimes). While it was connected, I ran "unroot" from SuperOneClick 1.95 which got rid of superuser (but not the files). I then did the factory resets.
Sweet, thanks for the info.
is there a way to do a full restart to the nexus one ?
i mean to go back to the point i just opened the case
thanks.
To go completely back, you will need to do the PASSIMG method (instructions are in the wiki). If you are still running stock, but just want to start over fresh (but don't care about system updates), you can just do a factory reset.
thank you
I have a rooted phone with twrp installed. I've never made a firmware backup before, and I am not sure what is the best way to do it.
Ideally I would want an exact copy of the .img file, So if anything happens I could restore my phone to the previous original factory image. But I am not sure if it is possible to make a complete backup like that.
Hi
Altho I don't use TWRP but use CTR/CWM.....they are similar in that these custom recoveries (and others) offer backup of "current" firmware.
You would need to find the Official ROM for your device and flash it......except for the recovery which I assume you want to keep TWRP
Then you can reboot into TWRP and make a backup.
The backup is now a TWRP version of the original firmware.
Does that make it clearer?
2) IMHO because of upgrades, you will be better off just making TWRP backups of your current phone setup.
If you restore a made TWRP official images.....it will take you some time to do all the updates, assuming you use playstore.
good luck

problem is, i can't get it. even contacting the company was no help. thats why I was hoping to somehow pull it off my phone first... but seems like that isnt possible?
Hi
I can't see what your phone is, maybe you can add it to your signature or reply.
OK now I understand why you posted....thanks for that.
Lets pretend the only thing you did to this phone was to root it and add apps
then go into either bootloader menu then factory reset......CTR offers factory reset as well .....so hopefully TWRP will as well
otherwise
or direct into factory reset
-----some phones can only do one way.....normally vol down plus power or vol down plus camera button plus power gets some devices into factory reset mode
reset for most devices won't delete all data and root.....you should do this thru your recovery option.
Howerver........please don't do this until you have done a full TWRP backup and made a change and then confirmed you can do a full restore.
Once done.....check "installed" playstore apps and uninstall any still showing......they can be installed later from the "all apps" tab
This is about the closest you will get to official firmware without the official rom......YMMV and try at own risk.
Note that some devices can be a bit touchy in factory reset mode so you may need to redo a wipe function.
good luck
I think I might have found my factory firmware.
According to my phone, my original firmware is 139.4.6.ghost_row.ACG.en.US and one of those files that I got it from here http://motofirmware.com/files/category/9-ghost/ is ACG_XT1050_4.4.2-KXA20.16-1.31_CFC_1FF.xml.zip
But I don't know how to tell for sure if they'll be a match, but its the closes I've been able to find so far.
my model is moto x, xt1050
http://motofirmware.com/files/file/128-acg-xt1050-442-kxa2016-131-cfc-1ffxmlzip/
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=5957&c=motorola_moto_x_xt1050_cdma_motorola_ghost
it looks like 442 refers to your android vesion and matches the spec page
KXA20.16-1.31 could be your build string?
see this post pls
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/index-welcome-to-motorola-moto-x-t2558785
as that user has a lot of info you may wish to post to it?
I am sure OP can offer better advice than me. good luck
Well if you just want a twrp back up of your factory firmware...make a back up of your current configuration of your device (really do this!).
Then factory reset your phone. There are many ways to do this...but it is up to you. Then go back into TWRP and make a back up of the newly reset
device. Once it is done, save that back up on your device and somewhere else...just in case. To get back to your original configuration, just use twrp
to restore the back up you made at the beginning.
Hello. I have unlocked bootloader successfully (it says "unlocked" at screen and also "tampered"). I have all the fastboot/adb software on my windows pc and can communicate with the phone. I flash recovery via fastboot and it is successful...includes a "recovery" option under bootloader options but it just flashes a disclaimer screen and quickly goes back to bootloader screen. Without custom recovery I cannot root this phone which is my goal. I have tried to reflash other recovery images, including cmw and twrp - I believe cmw is on it now but it won't open.
Hoping someone can assist me with this.
Thank you

Reflash whichever recovery you plan to use then remove the battery and put it back in then hold the volume down button and then press and hold the power button at the same time and the phone should then boot to recovery. Make a backup after so you have something to fall back on just in case.

Are you actually holding both buttons down at the same time until the screen turns on? Don't let them go hold them both down until your screen lights up. Then select recovery but if it doesn't work then try below.
Try flashing this version of twrp https://twrp.me/devices/htcdesire510usa32bit.html ... If you're not in the USA I need to know.
Flashing twrp didn't change anything unfortunately. I recently tried re-locking my bootloader and attempted to flash stock images back to the phone but when I press "yes" to the question about voiding the warranty before unlocking the bootloader again...the disclaimer just flashes and the phone won't let it.
Also, I cannot seem to restore it to stock through the menu...nor the bootloader screen.
So now I have "tampered" and "Relocked" banners on top of bootloader screen.
One the upside, the phone itself works fine (I currently only use it for wifi).
Only thing I can think of is I originally flashed a corrupt recovery img (or incompatible version).
Hoping you or someone else has any ideas as to how to get this thing working again. I'd be happy with reverting completly back to stock and starting the process over..

What service provider are you using?
Don't toss the unlock code you got from HTC you're gonna need the very first one you got keep it forever.
I'm using Boost but I think I figured it out. It ended up being a corrupt download of cmw. I actually used an ruu to get back stock and now the whole process went smoothly. Just looking for a rom that fits...got any recommendations in that area?

Not really since everyone has their own tastes but I'd advise you to create a backup in your recovery so you can use it in case something goes wrong. Currently me and a friend are working on CM13/12..

Funny enough I never made a backup before and constantly have to re-locate stock images due to soft bricking. I now am making backups so as not to go through that again.
I have a question perhaps you could answer -- if I install a rom that doesn't include any additional tweaks such as extended personaliation options in settings (transitions, etc, etc.)..is there a mod I can flash to achieve that?

For extended personalizing other than developer options, I'd use Xposed.

The USA model because myself and rb don't have the EU phone to even test anything on it.. We still have a lot of booting problems right now. I'd say if you wanted to help I'd have to ask what you know about building roms from source? Have you done it before?
P.S: There's already a CM-12.1 available for the EU model although it does have some issues.. You should read about it if you want to try it..

It's pretty cool and fun once you get the hang of making things and seeing them function right, and the other thing is... You'll need a pretty decent computer to compile/build with and it'll need to have at least 4GB ram (more is better) and about 50 to 100 GB hard drive space for building your rom plus the CM source code needs to be on your system too...
