Hey guys! So i completely understand how to completely disassemble this phone due to how easy it is (it only takes ten minutes!). But i was wondering do you guys think it would be worth being out of a phone for like a day (while paint drys, etc.) if i painted the whole thing and got rid of some scratches? Im seriously contemplating doing it but i just wanted your guys opinions and also any ideas on what colors i should use . Thanks!
that could be very bad for one no more warranty and two the paint could flake off and damage the hardware inside i would just skin it if u want to change the color that bad.
Thanks.
Thanks mate. My warranty is actually long gone and i will be getting a new phone shortly. The reason i assumed this would work because i saw a guy do it on the evo in the portal. It was actually a top post for the day. Id think about skinning it but for some reason the difficulty of the project is intriguing me. But i will def take what you said into consideration. Thanks
thats cool just please post pics if u do it im interested to see how that would turn out.
Okay
I'd be glad to post pics but it probobaly wont be untill this weekend because i use my phone too much during the week. I was thinking a white and metallic silver look. What do ya think?
i always liked the flat black look
The htc back housing will take dye better than paint. There was some pretty easy steps way back when. Check out ppcgeeks touch diamond forums, or google it.

Hey thanks man.
Issue
Do you guys any idea how i could paint the hardware buttons to hide all the scratches mine had from when i "let" my sister "play with it. Do you thing if i just buffered it all out with a fine sandpaper or something and then paint around them that would work. Because i figured if i was going to make the whole phoen beautiful then i may as well fix this falw too. If you do not think that part is possible then i guess ill just buy new housing for like 5 bucks. But just lmk. Thanks
I like the chips and scratches on my phone -- it reminds me of Boba Fet's helmet.

That is clever
I have no clue where to ask this, but OT seemed to be the best place. I recently traded a '92 custom Fender Telecaster + 50$ for an ESP LTD MH-100QM with a Floyd rose special (black & black nickle hardware) in need of minor repair and care. (Some may say it was a bad trade but I'm very good friends with the other person) one of which repairs is a tremelo saddle which has been stripped. This is where my issue comes in. The saddle set is in a custom black nickel chrome in which I've searched all over the internet for and yet can't find.
I've settled for a plain chrome one I picked up off eBay for 4$ while I search for the proper saddle. Can any musical/guitar specialist help me out in my search for the elusive black nickel saddle? All help is appreciated!
Mods: if there is a better place for this, please move it there
Looks like the same color option that came/comes on some Ibanez guitars. Might want to see what you can find through them. Sometimes sacrifices must be made, though. I had to go to all black locking nuts when I lost one of the original dark nickel's that game on my RG.

That's what I'm considering. If not, I may end up upgrading the entire rig and just get an original. The parts would be easier to find and the tone quality would be second to none.

Before doing anything drastic and costly, have you tried ebay?

Countless searches, yes. Craigslist, ESP and Ibanez' main websites too. It seems the zinc coated hardware parts are extremely limited.

I'm in the same boat as you. I upgrade in July and I know I'm definitely getting this phone but just don't know in which color. I'm leaning towards the silver one because it looks really nice and I've never had a phone that was not black. I'm going to compare both in person before I make a decision though

Silver because it looks good.
choice of colour will be subjective,i think- personally i prefer black
I had a long time to decide what colour I wanted to order. The phone came out in mainland China before it really got going in Hong Kong (the model I wanted), so I had a chance to see the phone whenever I walked past the million or so phone shops that dot this city. Prior to seeing the phone in person, I had decided from pictures and videos on the internet that the silver is the one to get. Once I saw the phone in person, I ended up at the store for about 20 minutes trying to choose one. Both colour options are very nice. After the 20 minutes, black was the one that I wanted. I went back and forth a few times over the next couple weeks, but I eventually stuck with my original choice. Silver is nice but, I found that if you weren't looking at it up close, it for some reason appeared cheap. The black looked great at any distance, and fingerprints weren't as bad as some people are making it out to be.
So my advice is to go to a store and check them out. You won't go wrong with either, but I think Black is the best buy (probably also helps my last phone was the white One X).
*edit* The silver ones I have seen here have all had pretty terrible build quality compared to the black. Gaps and raised speaker grills a plenty.
Silver is pretty sharp!
Black is well, black...kinda boring IMHO.
Black looks stunning to be honest. But Just stick to the silver.
Having seen chips on the black one in person recently, I will again say that stick to silver.
From my HTC One, right in your face....
Silver for me because I tried black unit. All my fingerprints
I sold my S4 last week to buy a M8 or S5, but some reviews on YouTube has sold me to Moto X. Yes I know it sounds crazy but I just need a simple phone with more fluidity than nonsense and bloated features.
Anyway, what I wanted to ask is, which colour should I get? I mean I have heard that the different back plate colours are not only colours, but different colours provide different feel, grip and durability. I want the one which should have the most grip, best durability. So which one should I get?
In India (cause I am here), only five colours are officially available, black, white, red, wood, and royal blue.
Thanks in advance.

All of the colored backs feel the same. They have the exact same soft-touch feel to them. The woven black and white backs have a little bit of a different feel, less grippy almost, but barely. For the wood backs, someone else will have to weigh in because I never owned a wooden back X, but I have heard that they are less grippy. As for durability they should all be able to take the same beating, however, in Pocketnow's durability report Michael Fisher said that the wood was slightly more durable than the colored and woven backs. Ultimately you should pick the color and material that you like the look of most. Any differences in the durability and grip are miniscule. Have fun and welcome!!
TL;DR The grip and durability are about the same, with very slight differences. Get the color you like the look of most and would be happy owning.

The Moto x has tons of customization, customizing the back. Best thing is the features of the phone

Get the developer edition model or the T-Mobile model. The always listening/active display/active assist has been very useful and the twist camera also.
MOTO X
Moto maker has a description of each color, but in general the darker colors are softer. They are described as matte finish or smooth finish (which has less grip) if I've remembered correctly.

Correct me if I'm wrong.....but as neat as the motomakers are, and assuming they come with 4.4.2.....you will never have root. As it stands today.
Something you may want to consider.

From his post, it doesn't seem as if he wants root, just the near-stock experience that the Moto X offers, but maybe I'm wrong.
And you are right, all of the MotoMaker phones come with 4.4.2 now, so no root for them. I kinda got screwed when I made the mistake of getting my X replaced and it came with 4.4.2, so now I have to wait for whomever decides to pick up the task of rooting/bootloader unlocking :fingers-crossed:

No they aren't the same. I have the Red back and it's not soft-touch at all. In fact, the Motomaker site tells you what feel you get with the colours you choose (soft-touch or smooth finish).

The phone doesn't really need root. Yeah, you miss out on a few apps and customization with gravity box....but there's little development, and stock is really nice.

You are making a good choice. I bought an S4 on sale as a gift and used it a bit myself, even with KitKat it is very slow, and all the features are gimmicks. The Moto X software features are all very useful.
I have both the non-slip and wood version. Personally, I think you should go with non-slip material. I think Royal Blue would be a very nice color. The wood backs are good to show off, but I don't think worth the extra cost, it also doesn't have that really smooth and comfortable feel of the nonslip material, which is much more comfortable to hold.
Well no root is a deal breaker for me to be honest. I mean how could I use apps like AdAway, Titanium, even the 8 step flashlight I use needs root, Adjustable torch i.e. Can't believe it doesn't have root.
Can't find any compact phones for human beings either, maybe Z1C is the only option left! Wish someone could turn me into a Dinosaur.

Get the Dev edition.... Or any model that can be unlocked.... As long as the radio bands work on your network.
Obviously you'd need to be able to sim unlock too.... so not a sprint model.
I am sorry what? I am in India, and here there are no locked phones! All phones are unlocked to work on any GSM network. This is the link from where I was gonna buy, if it matters in anything,

yeah, not sure which model that is or if the boot loader can be unlocked. Hopefully you can find out before buying....unless its not important to you.
Thinking about getting a Nexus 6 with ATT, the only issue is that I want the white version but I only see mid-night blue on the website.
The only reason I want the white one is because the side edges are silver, I dont know why they didn't just make an all black one, Ill end up putting a black dbrand skin on the back to cover up the white.
buy it from google or motorola

Doing the ATT Next plan, going to a corporate store tomorrow to see if they can order me a white one, if not then I need to decide if the color is going to be a deal breaker.

AT&T only sells the midnight blue. No white, so AT&T will not be able to order you a white one.

Swap the back cover to white. There's a thread on here. You tube video as well. Fairly simple.
You can but it from moto using their moto finance and pay it off over a year with 0 interest.

Look into financing It through Motorola.
Just bought the mid-night blue through ATT Next. It doesn't look that bad in person plus I have a couple Spigen cases on the way.
Get a white case.
