Custom pixel density rom? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just acquired a tab and playing with the custom roms available.
On my dell streak you can increase the pixel density, which effectively gives you what appears to be a higher resolution screen... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003525
Is cheating, but very effective in most cases... I.e. I have a 6x6 grid of icons on my homescreen, whereas on the tab I can only do 5x5 despite having an extra 2 inches of screen!
My question: are there any roms out there that let you do it? And/or is it possible on the tab?
Cheers

You don't need a rom to do it you just need to edit your build.prop file and set the density you want. You will need to be rooted though to edit the file.
Alternatively you can just download a density changer app from the market and you can set it easily with that, although it only lasts until reboot.

LCD Density Chager from the market will do this for you and allow you to save the changed density so that it applies it when rebooting. It does require superuser and also rooting (I think).

Well since you didnt write WHICH apps or WHICH home I suppose you are speaking about the Samsung ones, which are written for 240 DPI and not compatible with other ones.
There are versions here for the apps or home working on the smaller DPI but you have to search.
But rather then that, use alternatives likes launcher pro for home and for apps, depends what you want.
Also in spare parts, uncheck compatibility mode can help you with some apps
Btw I dont use some third party app change the density since its just a line you have to change in build.prop. So I dont know if it has some special functions making the apps compatible

How to resize the music app and phone?

I changed my lcd density via sgs tools to 200. But now the music app and the phone diaper are small. How can I make them full screen again?

You might try to use Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher. I don't know if they have to be the paid version to get the widget size adjust or not. I don't use LCD density changer even though I have purchased it.
It is a known issues when changing the lcd density. For the dialer you will need a custom dialer that supports density changes. As for the others not sure if they can be fixed.

Simply change your current lcd density to default 240 with the app you used.you've lower the default density so all display were affected & some other apps may not run properly with that setting. I rather not change the default cause it affects the clarity and sharpness of the display.
If you found it hard to use sgs tools to get back to your default display download lcd density app in the market it is free & much simpler to do.

[Q] how to change HTC one dpi?

Can anyone point me in the direction of an app that can change the resolution or dpi of the htc one? To me everything is just too big for the size. Having 1080p screen and huge icon doesn't make sense to me.

Or you could install xposed framework with app settings module..
you aware that you need root for that, right?
I use two tools for that. Changing the DPI for the whole system can be done for example using Rom Toolbox Pro. (Performance -> build.prop Editor -> swipe to the left -> LCD Density)
This actually brakes Play Store, therefore i use the app settings module for xposed framework to give that specific app the original DPI so that i can download updates and stuff.
Sorry for the late reply, I just notice that my email address is wrong which is why I never received the notifications. Anyone I notice that sense does not play well with the dpi chances. Everything gets jammed up in the top left corner of the screen, So its more like the sense launcher does play well with dpi changes which sucks.

[Q] Change DPI in GPE

Is it possible to change dpi in ARHD 5.1? Tried it but somehow got a boot loop.

There is an Xposed Framework module called App Settings that will allow you to change the DPI for apps on an individual basis. Also lets you change the app layout eg phone, phablet, tablet.
I think if you change the DPI for "Android System" it will change it across the board.
It's like PA's Hybrid Settings, but not as pretty to look at when using.

Increased Pixel Density but Camera app won't fill screen

Hi everyone!
Just got my GN4 and rooted it. So I like a higher pixel density, and lowered it from default 640 to 480, but the camera app won't fill the screen. It's a small window in one corner and black on the rest. Been trying to figure this out for a few hours and would appreciate some help. Hoping I don't have to figure out how to decompile the app and recompile.
Thanks in advance!
You'll need to use a xposed mod like app settings to change the lcd density of stock apps back to 640. Most apps scale automatically, generally stock Samsung ones don't like camera, contacts, and so on.
