Would it be possible to have Android on this phone since its basically the same phone as the hd2
I assume you mean as a duel boot? As i see a lot of people asking to put android on it yet they could just buy the htc desire hd an almost identical phone that is designed to work with android. tbh i would love to see some sort of emulator for a couple of the apps but i am so so glad to be rid of android i loved it but it felt like an early 90's computer all basic with no flair.
I think it would be possible but it will be glitchy and a long time off my advise would be if you want android to buy an android device they have a lot to choose from.

its more advanced then the HD2 and has less touch buttons
however its a bit of a silly question IMHO. If you want android get the Desire HD.
Why put a round peg in a square hole ?
I actually think it's a great question.
Why would people want it? because it gives you CHOICE!
It would be great if you could dual boot with Android and WM7 so you get the best of both worlds: taking advantage of Android whilst also using WM7 while it matures. I'd absolutely love to have a device with android and WM7.
Wish I was a developer, I'd work on that project straight away! I'd pay to have a dual-booting HD7 (or desire HD!) !
Bring it on dudes!
Wow please close this thread since there are so many options available for android these days and if anyone needs a android phone they should buy an android phone
I'm not sure I agree with the last poster. T-mobile has no android alternative to the HD7 that I am aware of.

really? for tmous or t-mobile europe? Cause there is the g2 and mytouch4g that just came out android...
To the OP, considering how the hd2 android is booted from the sd card and technically, there is no sd card on the wp7 (once it's inserted it becomes program memory), I don't think this is happening anytime in the future. Gotta agree, that dual booting for computers can be important to some people, but for phones, I just don't see it happening with the newer os's.
I'm a layman with no technical knowledge, just interested, so my comment was more on a visceral level than technical. To clarify, what I meant to say was that '...there is no android alternative ...... I am aware of'...' regarding the large screen format of the HD7. I bought a G2 but returned it because it was bulky, and I decided that I did not need the slide out keyboard. I really liked my first foray into the andriod world during my two weeks using the G2, and was hoping that I would be able to use the HD7 with android as well.
PS. I'm in Florida.

If he wants Android, tell him to go get an Android phone if it's within 14 days, otherwise, it'll be awhile before Android comes to the HD7.

I agree. I don't get it. WinPho7 is amazing. If you want andriod, dont get a brand new phone that just came out with a new windows version. Sure andriod has its perks, but so does Windows. I've had Apple, Andriod and Windows, and I just dont get the point of changing something off the bat. Altho He is probably thinking that the HD7 is like the HD2, with WinPho6.5, which I personally did not like. But it did have its perks too, like multitasking. I don't think many realize how long and how much work it took to bring Andriod to the HD2. I'm not a developer myself, but I can only imagine!
hd7
Okay I find out there is a phone out that's come close to the hd7.. its called HTC desire HD.. its looks just like the hd7 but the only thing defferent is the cam. Which is a 8mp instead of 5mp and its a android phone.. its not windows..
Just get a desire HD if you want an android powered 4.3 inch screen

If you want an android phone.. Why are you buying a hd7??
The answer is maybe. If you want Android, get an Android phone. There is a high likelihood that someone will at least attempt to port Android to the HD7. Whether or not it will be anytime soon, if it will be stable/usable, or if it will actually happen at all remains to be seen. My advice is not to buy a phone on the hopes that Android will be ported to it.
Out of curiosity, I just sent an enquiry to HTC UK about when they might be officially updating the device to 2.3.3 or a subsequent version. Here's the answer I got:
"Thank you very much for contacting the HTC technical support help desk. We are excited to announce that HTC Incredible will receive the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update in Summer 2011. Stay tuned for details as we get closer to the update availability. Please, for HTC INCREDIBLE S downloads and useful information about your device goes to: http://www.htc.com/uk/help_howtos.aspx?p_id=389"
I don't know about all of you, but this disappoints me - the Desire S is about to be released and yet that will be shipping with 2.3.3. And 'Summer'? That could easily be as late as September. This is all starting to sound very similar to the last time I was burned by HTC when I had a Hero and I was hanging around for 6 months waiting for a 2.x update from Android 1.5.
Anyway, I've told them I don't think this is good enough. I just hope someone finds a root exploit soon so there's a chance of me keeping vaguely up to date with new Android versions. Otherwise I'm going to be more and more tempted to sell this thing on later in the year and find something a bit more update-friendly.
to be honest, that just sound like the marketing department haven't been told anything, and that is a safe, wide target area, I wouldn't read too much into it.
I too suffered the Hero saga, don't want a repeat of that

I see no reason why they shouldn't be able to release an update within the next month or so, rather than 'Summer'. It's the vagueness that concerns me more than anything else!
Also, am I right in thinking that all Incredible S models ship without any carrier/network specific branding or functions within the software? I'm hopeful that will cut down the time it takes to build and release the update.
I think the update comes in May or June the latest. You figure this phone is gone be in Canada on Virgin and Bell sometime early April and in the states on Verizon at the end of April. I figure once the phone is more widely available the update will come. If we are lucky maybe the official gingerbread rom for the Incredible S gets leaked in April.
According to Engadget Chinese (during the press conference of Desire S announcement in Taiwan), hTC representative suggested that Gingerbread for Incredible S would be available "in next 2 weeks". Considering European countries always get the OTA update earlier than Asia Pacific region (Desire, Desire HD, Desire Z, Aria, Legend...). If the news is true, UK should probably get the update in April.
And also they announced a partnership with Skype to provide customized version of Skype in 2.3 update to include video call ability, which is a great news for us. Just hope this Skype version works better than the one in Market...

I had similar bs answer from them..
my enquiry was that as I purchased the phone sim/ carrier free, and it is the carriers who will release the update..which carrier sim wld I need to be using to get it?
in fact the reply bypassed the question completely, saying just 'most carriers wld release the updat (really htc? so do i have to use a sim from a carrier that supports IS???)...and then went on to say 'what is more important is that when the OTA is released by your carrier, make sure you are using wifi to download..
All I wanted was straight answer like 'O2 will def be releasing the update, it doesnt come direct from us, and expect it in xyz'..
HTC havent even released it to carriers yet, so when they do that'l take another couple of months for them to tamper with it..HTC obviously have a finished product which works with sense ui as they've been parading it around on the Desire S..so must be ready for release before now.

More likely than not, the official update will get leaked anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about that if you're lurking here as you'll probably see it here first. I'm on 3 in the UK who definitely don't support this phone, so this is what I'll probably be relying on unless the update comes direct from HTC. I wouldn't rely on HTC support to know where it's coming from, they're clearly as much in the dark as we are but have to give an answer of some kind. They don't count on people actually being clued up already, sadly.
I agree that if the Desire S is getting it, we should be getting it soon, but I do understand if there's a short delay due to it having to be tested fully on differing hardware. It's just the vagueness and the timescale that gets to me.
if the official update does get leaked, could it be installed without root?
update def won't be from HTC direct, thats the one thing they are adamant about..your's is a perfect example of a carrier that therefore wouldnt be releasing the update..and as for the clowns at 3 dont get me started..I had a DHD from 3, contacted them about a ginbgerbread update and they just told me they were'nt doing it and that 2.1 was the latest version 3 had...erm, hello 3..i bought the phone from your shop with 2.2 already on it!
glad i got rid of my dhd tho...IS is tons better
Hi everyone,
I just traded my android phone for an htc hd7 and enjoy it so far. I have read that the official mango update is going to be released soon, possibly Sep. 15th. At this point, should I wait to see if official mango is going to be released soon or should I go ahead and install a mango build from the development section? If I install a build, will the official mango update be able to be done to my phone or would i have to return it to stock?
Sorry about some of the noobish questions, have had many android phones and can figure stuff out pretty easy with them, but wp7 is a completely different beast it seems and it's taking some relearning and a lot of reading.
Hello...
I installed it this morning. Even though the rumored date is tomorrow i think it will be a while before local carriers release it. Not as bad as NoDo though. Also, with the RTM release you wont get all the extra fraff the carriers add.
I'd go for it. Its ace!
I would suggest searching around about how to make a backup of your device before doing anything. Its quite a simple and quick process and very important to do.
Mango is awesome btw! But I would contact your network provider if its a locked device to find out when the update might hit.
I would also recommend installing it. The final build is out and ready. That is what I installed, and since its the official version, I will still be able to update through Zune on updates down the road. Its quite easy, even on mine which was carrier branded. It took less than 30 minutes, not including file download time.
Mango is great by they way. My Sensation with its over clocked processor, custom rom, and extras has already been out away. Now I want some new WP7 hardware to back up the software.
Like the previous poster says, its the release build so why not? You also have to remember that its unlocked which means you can side load, etc. I'd go for it just make sure you have all of your music, pictures, etc sync'd. Even if itdid release tomorrow, does not mean you will get it and BTW, its a simple, no hasle process. Just follow the directions! Good luck.
I held off a long time with updating to 7720 from beta2 for the same reason. Was just gonna wait it out. But I ended up upgrading. Thing is that when I updated to 7720 from 7712(??) I was able to receive the HTC update which has been out a while but was unable to receive since I was on the beta2 and didn't feel like downgrading to nodo but for minimal changes. So using even the Zune beta client which I have I'm led to believe that when the official mango is released by carriers I'm gonna be able to upgrade right from RTM 7720. Just a thought. Did it on both my hd7's soon as updated to 7720 I was able to receive the radio update.

Thanks for all the feedback! I will continue to read up on the process to update it in the meantime and maybe tackle it this weekend if the update doesn't come out by then.
tried flashing to mango..but games seem not to be working. So flash back to the original firmware.maybe i just wait for the official update...
Am a Happy bunny with Mango RTM installed. I feel its not really a point waiting for your carrier updates as such cause WP7 is as closed as apple.
and all HTC will ever do is update its HTC HUB which you can update anyway via market.
so go ahead and do it.
Whatever you choose I hope you enjoy it. I'm tired of waiting for official Mango, going back to Android. I had high hopes but it doesn't feel worthwhile anymore.

You know, I've haunted these forums for a long time with different phones and I've used WM6+, Android 1+, IOS 3+ and a few others and comments like this really piss me off.
WP7 has come a long way in a short amount of time. Is it perfect, of course not but Mango is a major step forward and puts WP7 on par with any other mobile OS. Granted we dont have as many useless apps or the same apps repackaged and there are a few that are just plain missing but its getting there.
BTW, did I mention what a helpful post it was? Not...
I've just flashed my HD7 up to Mango because I know O2 will load it with Yahoo Crap, and it'll likely arrive some time in November if their track record is anything to go by.
Was using a Blackberry Torch until recently, but swapped it out for the HD7. My second phone is a Galaxy-S, and it was my main phone until I got the HD7. Previously I've had various XDAs Mini-S, a TyTn, and a HD2, as well as work phones at various places. The only handset I had issues with was the HD2, though that was more to do with crap O2 messed with firmware than anything else.
Before Mango I would have rated this handset 6/10 for missing features. Now 9/10 as I still can't have OTA Podcasting, and the Battery could be better.
[Q] Why HTC LOVE not to upgrade the previous HTC Devices even though they are able to support the software??
Because they can sell new phones.
Have patience.
htc is actually one of the better companies when it comes to upgrades on older phones. I hear sony or motorola customers get no love.
I guess being better doesn't translate to being good at updating previous models. It's all about making a sale.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
Cause if every single HTC device have right of upgrade, what's the point of new devices from HTC ? This forces people to buy new products. Hope you understant
like i said, it's all about the sale
They sell a device, support a few updates for a while, perhaps after that one or two updates spread out, then they do focus on the sale of newer devices almost exclusively.
HTC is better than some companies, and at least they have made lots of hardware that can support better software, because we can enjoy the great work of independent developers like those on xda to give us lots of options. We don't have to rely on HTC that way!
Go open source!

I will be happy if HTC just gives out drivers to stop the camera lag in AOSP ROMs, that's all I ask
I found that app in sensation forum...it is force closing on all the roms except virtuos unity one. It won't even run on the IS official sense 3.0 update.
Anyone knows how we can port it???
You should be happy, as HTC is actually releasing updates...go to Huawei or Motorola...the phone sells and dies with the same Rom. You'll find all sorts of unofficial Roms, but not from the manufacturers.
So, HTC is doing quite all-right, not as good as Google (from obvious reasons) but not as bad as Huawei or Motorola.
OK. once again regarding this app, does anyone have any idea how to port it?
i have the sensation qhd .apk of this app.
any one willing to resize this app for wvga?
Just kinda disappointed that it did not stand-out to me. Nothing impressive or eye-catching about it. I may wait for the Note "7" in August . . .

Just curious. If you dont like something, is it your norm to go look for that particular items web forum and start a thread about your dislike?
You must have a lot of free time.
Haha. I'm subscribed to this forum, as I had every intention of upgrading to the 10, just as I have in the past with every other HTC phone since the OG Evo. I am an HTC fanboy.
But, let's be realistic: the 10 is nothing fantastic. HTC has once again stuck to dull changes, that may very well bankrupt their company.
Their biggest marketing is chamferred edges? Really? Don't get me wrong, the OG Evo was an "Evolution" in technology, but it seems like HTC is done with the ground-breaking ideas it once cornered the market with.
I stay-up on all the tech articles on all forms of technology, and I truly believe HTC dropped the ball on this phone, especially with the Note 7 and iPhone 7 coming-out. It may very well be just Sammy vs. Apple very soon.

I don't understand... You are entitled to your opinion, but I am not seeing the writing of an HTC fanboy.
So yeah, being realistic, I don't agree with you. To me this phone is fantastic! I would like to point out that being realistic is NOT comparing a phone to phones that are not released yet. That is called unrealistic. Anyways we get it, you don't like it. Cool. I am absolutely loving my 10.

Has there been any reports of this issue also occurring on the HTC 10?

Have not had a single issue with this phone. And it has the camera we all dreamed that HTC would use in a phone.
Buy the phone that makes you happy. I for one love the 10. Can finally use sense widgets with different launchers and whole sense feel is stock Android like. I have a feeling HTC will be pushing updates a lot faster now because of it.

But, that's the thing that everyone asks me: what would it take to "wow" me, and I almost wonder if it can no-longer be done. Android is the same thing, over & over again. Idk, I guess what I want to see from a OS standpoint is like jumping from Windows 3.1 to Windows 10. I want to see a complete refresh. And, I expect the same from HTC. Having the same exact design as the M phone's, with minor hardware upgrades does not have me salivating.
I want another revolutionary HTC phone like the OG Evo, and I truly think Samsung is coming out with something that will blow the socks off any competition.

What wow'ed me was the camera and fingerprint scanner. That was enough for me, HTC did make it hard for me to theme but now everyone can be a themer. It is a nice upgrade from the M9 to me. Dude get what you want, you have to live with it.
Dude the next big tech jump will be flexible phones. That's about it. What else can you geek into a phone? What do you wish the phone would have? It ain't happening. We are at the apex of these things and all that can be done is cosmetic. The OS is constantly changing and will always include new innovative changes. But nothing is going to drastically change for awhile. They'll get slimmer, lighter, faster, last longer in bed, but that's about it. So just pick a phone and enjoy it because in 6 months something will be out that's better any way.

Well, two weeks till the Note 7 is announced. I honestly hope the specs on it are not all they're cracked-up to be, as it will push me to get the 10. Sammy's have **** for support, as the bootloaders are locked. My brother and buddy both have the S7 Edge. Buddy loves it, brother says "ehh". He switches phones every couple of months though. He has his eyes on the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro with Google Tango. He's kinda like me, he gets bored quickly. I'll never switch to an iPhone though.
The next Nexus intrigues me, especially if HTC is making one . . .
