Usually charge my Tilt over night. But just to check it I unplug it before going to bed.
Started at 100% when I went to bed, I got up 7 hours later and it was at 56%. That is far worse than I expected!
Is this normal? Or shouls I restore it back the the original ROM and exchange it while I still have time.
What did you have turned on? If you leave Bluetooth and WiFi on overnight it'll definitely kill your battery... you should disable them in the commanger when not in use to save battery life.
Also, if you have the mail client set to check for new mail often (every 5 minutes or so) it'll keep firing up a data connection which uses the battery.
Thats certainly not normal. check if you dont have Wifi or an 3G connection at the moment.
I did have bluetooth on. I am on a 3G network, but not connected to a data session.
I had this problem with one of the 'cooked' roms. For the 5 weeks I had my phone, I never had a problem with it draining overnight. I flashed one of the roms, and two nights in a row I woke up to a dead battery. I reflashed the ATT rom, and haven't had a problem since.
Overnight battery drain
I have a tilt, std AT&T rom, with some modifications and updates, found here. I have pop email service running every 15 minutes, and commontime Mnotes push email to my lotus notes files and email, bluetooth on at all times. My overnight battery drain, 8-9 hours will be from 100% down to 89-92%, so I would say there is something else wrong. If you have "battery status" (found in this wiki) on your today screen, it will show you battery drain. You should also have the tweak settings to turn off your 3G connection after 1 minute after completion of data transfer. If this does not do it, go back to the OEM rom and then add your updates.
It should not drain the battery like you are seeing, my reference as a guide and I push my phone pretty hard for data and email.
Good luck,

Totally agree.
there is also the posibility that you have a defective battery that's not holding charge. If you check with your phone supplier and tell them nicely that's the problem they will most likely give you a replacement (as they will send the old one back in the packaging as a return).
OK, I'll flash back to my original AT&T ROM and see what that does. I have another batter (1650 from ebay, a cheap one) but don't expect to have it for another 4 or 5 days.
it's a shame because I really like this Dutty's ATT Beta 2.
Anyone have a good full featured ROM their using that I can try if I find the AT&T original give me better battery life?
My overnight drain with bluetooth On and band set on EDGE is 4%. The only times I've found it low to dead overnite is when I've left WiFi On, not sure why as it should standby when off, but at least twice it's sapped the battery dead.

I wonder if when you get below a certain crital % battery level that cellphone or any Tx/Rx connection drops off? I have noticed once before (and never associated it with anything) that when I was near an audio device (my PC speakers are best for this) and my battery was low that it was 'polling' the cell network like crazy as if losing connection! This may also work for WiFi (which in sleep periodically checks if the network is still in range) and BT?
Something to investigate!
Overnight, around 7hrs, from a 100% battery with BT always on Wi-Fi off, 3G always connected and it's setup to check my email every 2hrs, I only loose 1 to 2% battery life and my alarm going off for about 5mins , this is with the Orange HTC Tytn 2 using their original ROM
Wel, I flashed the latest Dutty's ATT touch ROM. My battery did improve.
From 100% to 78% over night with bluetooth on. Not great but much better.
I'll see how it goes tonight.
My overnight drain is typically 5-7%.
This is with e-mail poll every 5 minutes, so data connection is on.
Bluetooth & WiFi off.
OK, checked it again this morning and this time at was at 98%!
I couldnet figure out why the day before it was at 78% and today at 97%. everything was the same (or so I thought).
I noticed later that the Radio pluging (to toggle BT, WiFi, and phone radios on/off) was not on my today screen. It was set to, but apparently didn't load. Maybe that is somehow the issue. I'll keep it off all day and see it I don't have more juice at the end of the day than usual. I'll turn it on again for tomorrow and see my my battery drains quickly again.
I think the battery capabilities may have a lot to do with this.
Anyone here use Li-Polimer for anything else? I do, minature 3D (no pun intended!) RC helicopters, and the individual packs NEVER produce the same charge/discharge cycle..
Not one is the same from purchase.
Some packs can devolve a low current without much adverse effect, others can charge with a greater sustain. If you present a charge cycle whilst discharge is taking place, it can effect performance.
Lots to look at here guys including device settings but when you put all these aspects together, as in this thread, there is something to work on...
I could've swore that when you turn your phone on stand-by (press the power button on the side to turn the screen off) that it also disables wifi until you wake the phone up.
I was having this same issue. Turned off Bluetooth and Wi-fi at night, hit the power button on the phone and now it only drains about 3% in the 6 hours I sleep.

It does unless the ROM you install changes the registry keys or you do yourself.
ah, okay.. well as long as the battery life lasts longer than the tytns then i'm happy
don't forget the default design of WM !!! ( X does not closes running programs ) ... get a task manager and make sure X DOES fully exit
I had to add that in to cover all the bases
I've always had my data on in all my phones.. .I got fed up of the gnote's battery life so I decided to turn it off when I was not using it and God I was surprised, I watched a whole movie and played that train game and I lost only about 15 -20% of my juice.....
so today I turned off my data and WiFi before i went to sleep and when I woke up 6 hours later I had only lost 1%
that has never happened before...

wifi has been known to be a great battery hogger on the note, interestingly enough it should be the other way around
as for the data, the phone works extra hard in lower signal areas to boost reception, hence drinking juice
I always disable wifi and data when I'm not using them.
I use the Go Power Master widget to switch between different profiles I have set up for wifi, mobile data, wifi with autosynch and no data.
There are other widgets that do the same thing. Just saves you having to toggle each setting separately.
If I stay connected with wifi, it's not too bad, but if I move out of a wifi area, and leave it on, it seems to drain battery faster (I'm guessing because it keeps rescanning for connections?).
I have somwhere describe this
Any way you will find this solutione better.
Use phoneweaver, you can describe the time, it will stop data at defned time, as well switch on too at your describe time. So if you set data off time just after your time to sleep, N switch on time just b4 your wake up time, you even need not to bother do do it manually
same way this can be triggered by location too, you can switch on/off data/wifi at perticular place.
And there are lot action you can set.
agree to rechlum if you are connected to wi-fi is consume less battery thn you are connected to net with 3G, N keep wifi open with connected to data is draining battery too fast.
could it all mean that I wasted a lot of time trying to reduce my battery consumption with WiFi on?
so far by disabling the unnecessary apps strartups (Autorun Manager) and turning off non-essential syncs I was able to get down to ca. 7mA (Battery Monitor Widget estimates) in standby mode, BUT only when WiFi is off.
When it's on, the power consumption stays at ca. 60mA in standby mode, which is something I cannot comprehed - using CyanogenMod on my previous device I was able to stay below 15mA regardless of WiFi state.
Turning off data is pretty stupid. I don`t about you but my phone is actively working in the background.
checking email every 5mins

facebook notifications
twiter syncing
Linkedin updates
ebay notification
3G data monitoring
weather updates every 30mins
Latitude monitoring
stocks updates
sports scores updates every 1min with your choice of espn, score mobile, fox sports...
bottom line is gotta use a smartphone as a smartphone. With data turned off notifications are not happening.

If I know I'm not going to be looking at my phone for a while, it's not much use wasting battery having wifi or 3G turned on.
I'm a teacher, so I often have 3-4 hour blocks of time that I won't touch my phone.
I just turn wifi or data back on when I'm ready and my updates still come through when I'm ready to view them. Any updates that might have come through if I had left data enabled, I wouldn't have seen any earlier...
If I'm watching a movie I'll often switch off data because I know I won't be looking at my phone for 2 hours.
I don't see how conserving the battery is "stupid".
One could argue that leaving data enabled when you aren't in a position to use it is "stupid"...
Just out of curiosity, is there some pre-made application that allows me to turn data and wifi off after 5-10 minutes after then screen has been turned off and then turn both back on when the screen is turned on? Or should I just code it myself?

there's an option in Settings / WiFi Settings / Menu key to turn WiFi off when screen is off,
besides that there was one to do exactly what you need, but cannot remeber it's name, if you don't find anything satisfactory then try Lama - it has quite a large range of location-based triggers
Leaving wifi on when you're not using is awful. It completely prevents the phone from going to deep sleep.
I get awesome battery life simply by leaving wifi on only when the screen is on. My battery ranges from 18 hours to 1 day and 23 hours, depending on my use (temple run )

Greenpower will do exactly that. You can set it up so it turns off wifi and 3G/data after a set amount of time after turning off the screen and turn it back on when the screen is turned on. You can have it sync once every n minutes/hours so you still get Whatsapp, emails and other stuff without having to turn on the screen.
It's working like a charm for me, before I used to lose 15 to 20% every night, now with the same usage I've only lost 30% in 67 hours.

Everybody has different needs. If you need all this and to be aware of what i going on in your no-doubt busy social life, then you can do this.
On the other hand, it is utterly useless if you are not going to pick up the phone and see what the weather is (instead of looking out the window) and who is doing what on Facebook (or writing things in Facebook instead of actually doing things) as soon as it beeps at you. In those situations, turning of data will save battery with no loss of information.
Personally I love a 'pull' digital life, rather than a 'push' one. I have far too much to be getting on with to be constantly hassled.
Of course, in actually writing this, I am proving myself completely wrong, but what the hey?
I only care about my Google+ account and my e-mails, everything else matters only when I personally decide to check it. As such I've set my phone to turn data back on every 30 minutes, sync e-mails and Google+, and then turn data back off again.
I use Timeriffic (free from Market/Play) to disable Wifi/Data etc based on time of day.
I don't really care about emails when I'm sleeping!
A must have application IMO.
I spent a few hours looking through other threads, but nothing seemed to quite fit my scenario.
Stock droid 4 with the latest over the air update.
I use the phone very sparingly during the day, and my battery drains very quickly...
Usually take off the charger around 8am and battery is below 20% by 2pm.
My usage is usually one or two 5 minute calls, and probably 10mins of facebook.
Is there a good smart action I could try?
I had one that turned off the 4g while the screen was off, but it made sending picture messages unbearable...
My battery use indicator blames screen, then OS, then facebook....
I feel as if it's not reporting the culprit correctly...
Any help is much appreciated.

I've had similar issues, not sure what I did to cause them. When I first got the phone, 16hrs+ with what I would consider moderate usage was normal. I've flashed AOKP and the battery life is back to normal (on track for 15hrs today), but the stock rom is a disaster.
I'll let you know what I turn up (if anything), but I have a feeling I'll probably be wiping everything out since I actually like the stock ROM (plus no hw accel in ICS).
Edit: Also, how did you have a smart action turn 4G on/off? I was under the impression we can't control that at all, except via system menu. Is a downside to VZW's 4G...
I believe that was actually via the app Juicedefender.
even with it on i was still only getting about 8 hours...
I am semi interested in rooting/flashing a rom etc, but my last experience there was a disaster(thanks to a ****ty droid eris)
I disabled all widgets except for facebook, being that it's the only one I use...
The only non essential apps running all the time are battery circle, and facebook(widget i guess?)
I'm now charged to 100%, gonna see where these changes take me.
What are your settings as far as Brightness, Haptic Feedback, Screen Timeout, Vibration (Incoming Message/Call or End Call). Also, I recommend just using the FB app instead of the widget as I notice most of the widgets draw power even when the screen is off.
I am currently running Eclipse 1.3.7 w/ xrjxMod, Brightness all the way down, all vibration and haptic feedback is off. Since I am rooted I also used ROM Toolbox to adjust my scan interval to the minimum. I have the screen timeout to the max, but I always turn it off manually after use. I am constantly on either FB, XDA, txt messages or the occasional game/Netflix use and with the exception of watching a full episode or movie on Netflix, I am averaging about 6 to 8 hours on a full charge.
My battery is now sitting at 46%.
Since my last post I used the phone for 18mins of phone calls and nothing else.
The breakdown is 46% voice, 23% android OS, 12% display, 9% phone idle, 8% cell standby...
The brightness is as low as possible, haptic feedback is off, phone is set to vibrate(thats the only way I get calls)
All three location settings are on....Should I turn them all off? I dont know which are important...
I agree with azreal. Check your setting. Haptic feedback sucks up juice and unless you like it is more of an annoyance imo. There is an option for it in language and keyboard as well as in the screen menu for your soft keys.
Do you have your gmail setup to constantly sync? If its not needed un-check it in you accounts menu.
Are you leaving wifi on when your not in range of a remebered router?
If you are not in a strong 4g area set it to cdma only in your wifi and networks menu.
My opinion of apps to extend battery life is a negative one. Its an app that always runs to make things stop running???? Some work ok but most do not.
If all else fails I would suggest the eclipse rom for the d4. As long as you are safestrapped and follow directions properly you can't go wrong. In the case of a bootloop shut the phone off and reboot and you will come back to the recovery screen to try it again or go back to stock. Its nearly foolproof.
You may also want to do a battery stat wipe if your still having issues. Just discharge your phone completly, then fully charge wipe stats and completly discharge again then fully charge once more, and see if you notice a difference.
I get around 15-16hrs on stock and up to 22hrs on eclipse (varies with usage) by following these few things.

I would hazard a guess that having 4G on all the time is one of the main culprits. I leave 4G off unless I am browsing the web, forums, or something else where the extra speed is nice. I use the 4G Toggle widget from the market to turn 4G on and off. I always turn it off before hitting the power button to turn off the screen. No need for it to be sucking juice when I'm not actively using my phone.

I just installed the toggle switch, I'm gonna give it a go.
To turn off the gmail sync go to accounts click on you tap the account. Then uncheck the sync box.
When you want to check your email go to the gmail app hit the menu and sync. Takes about 30 seconds extra but saves some battery.

I'm always skeptical when people blame gmail sync or 4G on battery issues. When the phone was new on stock, and on ICS now, I have three gmail accounts, a yahoo account, and one Exchange account all syncing in the background + 4G on 24/7 and getting around 16hrs of battery life. This was the case for weeks. Then I started having trouble with Verizon's Backup Manager, did a factory reset, and now stock battery life is ~ 8hrs, with 4G OFF
I'm thinking at the very least, there is an issue with the stock battery information panel. My feeling is it hides battery use by the stock bloatware...

I agree that there is probably more to it than just 4G or syncing. Especially where people are getting only 8 hours or so battery life. I personally have noticed definite battery savings with 4G toggled off when not in use though. I can usually still go most of the day even with it toggled on all day but with 4G off, except when I actually need it, I usually get to bed with 30% - 40% battery left as opposed to 10% - 20% left with 4G on all day.
Sent from my DROID4 using XDA
I would also turn all 3 locations off. No need to run the gps when not using navigation. I keep my 4G on as I use it frequently but I am going to try the toggle as well for the extra savings on battery when not netflixing/browsing.

Yep. I'm also having big issues with my Droid 4 battery. First I thought it was the firewall. But even after uninstalling the app, the drainage is absurd. The battery drains so fast, the phone gets warm.
I don't know where to look. I read something about logcat in another thread but could't find it anymore.
My Droid 4 can work about 5 hours on one battery charge. No gps, no 4g and no wifi. If I turn on wifi, it lasts about 8 hours, so I'm suspecting that some process loops when in non WIFI mode.
If you're out of options try using an app called watchdog. It let's you see if there is an app that's draining your battery unusually fast.
Thanks for the tip. But what whatchdog should I use? There are many apps called watchdog

Watchdog task manager lite (free version).
I tried that this morning. Still poor battery life on stock, but watchdog doesn't flag anything. Very weird
Oh well, I would definitely recommend AOKP for anybody having battery problems.
For me today: 4 hours 55 minutes since unplug, 80% left.
Screen time on: 50 minutes (!)
That being said, I do keep my screen on pretty low. Still, you can tell I've been using it...
Watchdog couldn't help me but. My data monitor showed that motorola.services was generating a lot of data the past few days (800+ MB :O ) and responsible for the battery drainage. I blocked it with droidwall. It's better now, but sometimes it still pops up and generates data despite the fact it's blocked.
So glad that I have an unlimited internet plan or else I was really screwed
I've seen a lot of people complaining about battery life, and while I've had my Atrix HD only for a few days now (coming from an Atrix 2) I've had pretty good success w/the stock battery. I was initially bummed that we can't root yet, and with that comes the inability to turn off 3G/4G/LTE when the screen is off as well as other build.prop tweaks. I will be doing the EB40 battery mod, but before that I wanted to ensure I was getting the most out of my stock battery. I've done some things to get me the most life from my battery and many are just a reflection of my personal habits when I use the phone. Once size doesn't fit all, but hopefully you can use a few of the tricks here to improve your battery life. We can use this thread to share our results and findings.
Yes some of these are no-brainers, and we're not going to discuss the fact that using wifi, bluetooth and GPS all day will drain your battery. I operate on the idea that if I need it, I'll turn it on. I don't need every single one of my accounts synced to the split second. Half the time my phone is sitting next to me while i'm at my computer. Of course others live and breath through their phone. I don't care to be bugged every 5-10 seconds by my phone; got better things to do....but that is my style.
I will post some screen shots of my system as I complete some other tests. The first test I will do is turn off data and background sync and see how many days this phone can last w/out a charge. Other tests are TBD.
So here is what I've done so far.. While all of this is no more than enabling/disabling and configuring items, I still will take no responsibility if disabling any features/apps breaks or harms the your installation of your phone or bricks it.
Enjoy

Deep Sleep
This one is critical, in fact I didn't have good battery life until I was positive that the phone was entering deep sleep when it was idle (cellular data on or off, it doesn't matter). I used Better Battery Stats to determine this. I'd set a custom reference point, lock the phone, wait 1-2 minutes and then look in BBS. If i didn't see any Deep Sleep time, i'd uninstall or re-configure apps so that the phone would remain asleep. Even if you see a high % of 384mhz and no deep sleep, you will loose battery power. Low CPU usage is NOT the same as deep sleep. The culprit i've honed in on is Beautiful Widgets. I'm suspect this app, despite telling it to only update the weather every 2 hours does not let the phone enter deep sleep. Further testing is needed to confirm.
Accounts
Sync only contacts
I have one account (exchange) that has its calendar synced
Manually sync other items when you need them
Background Sync
All apps have any kind of notifications and sync turned off, this includes ebay, words with friends, facebook twitter etc. Again, when you need to see an update, manually update/sync.
Social Apps syncing? - NO
Email Client - I'm using Enhanced Email, I'm not using the stock email client or the gmail app.
# of accounts: 3 (2 are gmail, 1 is exchange)
Sync: Check every 15 minutes
Using Gmail client - NO
Smart Actions - This alone is a huge battery saver, over night my phone only looses 1-2 % of battery life. By the time I pick up my phone at 8:30am, my email is already synced and i haven't lost any battery power. My reson for doing this is that I came from a Blackberry about a year ago. They had a great feature that would put the phone into a super deep sleep, essentially a hibernate. Everything was off; this is the closest we can com to on Android, sans turning the phone completely off. I estimate if you use this setting all the time you would be close to the advertised 8.5 days of standby time.

I just bought the note yesterday from a local Verizon store.
I really love it but my battery life is literally TERRIBLE. I've googled a bunch to try and find a solution but I haven't gotten a straight answer. I've heard to resync your google accounts, swipe data and reload everything, but nothing have seemed to be solid.
I am a pretty avid user of my phone and I decently know what I am doing. I am coming from a Razr Maxx x912 with CM10 snapshot M11.
So I charged up to 100% at 10:38 am this morning, went to the Cardinal Lions game. Wanted test the phone out and used pretty significantly. When I got home it was 6:00 pm and I was left with 26% battery. That is not okay.
I am using Google Now Launcher because I hate that you can't center the apps icon on their launcher.
I have location on/off when appropriate, wifi on when needed, no bluetooth, automatic brightness, close out active programs, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary that would suck up the battery.
My battery stats are reading with Android System at 25% use and Screen at 22%.
I've read people getting a total of 22-24+ hours with their Note 4. I'm not even getting about half that.
Did I get a bunk battery? Does anyone know of something I could be doing that is abnormal for battery use?
The phone does runs hot to the touch on it's back. I also get messages from advanced task manage that cloud or facebook has lagged and overdraws battery. I don't know of anything else I've done differently than any use of my other phones that would change my battery draw.
I'm willing to go back to the store and swap out this phone for another Note 4 because I do love the phone.
If anyone would have any ideas I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
I consider myself a moderate to heavy user (gmail, hotmail, facebook, linkedin, dropbox, whatsapp, skype all syncing), often reading news and diff articles throughout the day, light game use.
I only leave wifi on when i'm at home or somewhere where i connect to wifi, otherwise it's turned off.
I usually get from 7am - 11pm with 30% left. Screen on time is the killer - playing games i notice the battery drop quickly.

I would say I am at the same level of use. Emails read and write, Reddit poops, typical facebook scrolling, instragram butts, news, text, Use bluetooth at the gym with wireless headphone, but no games or anything really consuming.
Do you see my situation as typical or atypical as in, is it obscure enough to go in and ask for a different Note 4 since because of the battery?

Thanks!

I assume that your phone would have been using more battery at a stadium with 50, 000 other cell phones its visinity. Your phone would be losing a lot of packets with so much traffic around it

that might be the case but as I was reading forum posts about the battery life on the way home from the stadium I could watch my battery % decrease. On a 20 minute car ride I went from around 33% to 30%.
Compared to other reactions to the battery life online, I don't doubt my battery is depleting abnormally for some reason whether it is in a stadium or not.

Yeah it seems to be draining a bit more than mine. I also listen to about 1-2 hrs music (or podcast listening), plus 1 hr using Runkeeper (that by itself only drains 3-4%).
Maybe give it a few days for the battery to settle in, then see what kind of battery life you're getting?
Are you using Lte, 3g or Edge?

LTE SM-N910V
On 4.4.4
Im moderate user with dropbox, google drive and 3 email accounts sync on. With power savig mode on I go from 7am to 11pm on 60 - 65% battery capacity. I keep screen on manual settings (automatic is to low for my likings) and phone is not rooted so I can't disable some applications running in background (same of them i.e tmobile my account I can close manualy in application manager). Install battery monitor to check if your phone ever go into "deep sleep" or if there is offensive app what keep it "awake" all the time.

So you're complaining because you left home used your phone all day to make it back home again and still have bayyery? I'm confused.

Why do you say this? I've never heard to not use them before, so if something else is more efficient or less burdensome that would be great! My task killer has given me the message of apps causing CPU lag and overdraining the battery wit the option to "BOOST". Not exactly sure what this means.. I assume it means boost (kill) completely. Is this normal?
I'm complaining because I've heard so many people loving the battery life on their Note 4, claiming to have a battery life of 22+ hours while I am barely getting 13. I want to ensure that I didn't get a bunk battery and that I might need to swap it out at the store. I love the phone but it bothers me to watch the battery % deplete before my eyes as I use it.
That being said, I watched 20 minutes of the science of interstellar last night after draining the battery completely and then charging it back up to 100% and at the end of the 20 minutes 92%. 8% loss over 20 minutes of video should not happen. Have anyone experienced something similar?
Since Android 2.3, task killer apps will significantly reduce your battery life. When an app is sitting open in the background it is just stored in RAM and is not using any power. When a task killer tries to kill it, it removes it from memory and then the system loads it up again. That causes power drain.

Was that a streaming video or locally saved? If you're streaming over LTE I wouldn't consider that too unusual.
You also haven't given any screen on times, which are very important. I can let my phone sit idle and get ~15 days out of it if I don't touch it, but I could also use it for 7 hours of watching a movie with the screen on and kill it.

I was streaming it over wifi via the youtube app, so it was nonlocal.
My stats show Android system at 27%, and Screen 12%.
I charged to 100% this morning and am at 93% now after screen time of 13m 15s.
That's actually really bad if it was over WiFi.. I had this test done (and throughout that post), but the one linked is at 95% of 41 minutes OST (1st post on that page); I also have three emails running (Push - two hotmails, one exchange for work); My test was basically running a Crunchyroll video for the whole time.. I was able to get a little over 8 hours OST at the end of the test; However, if you left your phone on for a few hours, then that's pretty good.. remember the standby mode does kill battery too.. I use a 'deepsleep' mode when my screen is off (80%+ deepsleep from CPU Spy);

CPU Spy for 48 seconds.. I'll post one with a bit longer time next.. but you get the point.. try to get deepsleep when your screen turns off.. (for example, I turn off all the radios (except cellular and bluetooth) when I turn off the screen.. The app I use for this is DS Battery... I had the 8 hours OST test done while using DU Battery, DS Battery, and Memory Manager Full all at the same time.. so now only down to DS Battery left.. from what others say, the apps that clear memory are bad because it reloads them back into services/memory and thus gets more battery drain.. just like getting out of a car door (while you are driving to the store) every minute to check on something, then getting back in.. better to just sit and go the whole trip and get out at the end (which deepsleep mode can do).. the app can run, but it can't do anything because the wifi/mobile data radio is off.. (just like if there was no 'car' in the example);
5 minute run.. dropped a lot but still over 95% of off screen time is 300mhz or deepsleep..

Great. Thanks I downloaded CPU spy and DU Battery. I'll look into DS Battery.
Other than turning off radios when in DS, do you have any other suggestions?
I was using Google Now Launcher, which I think ran the Okay Google option all the time which sucked some life. I switched to Nova and relinked my google accounts and it seems to be running better.
Ill charge it full and then run it dry and report back with my results.

Turn off Google Now if you don't use it
Turn off Location/GPS or make sure it runs only in power saving mode
Turn off location history in Google settings
Use auto-brightness
Disable Pen detection in the S Pen settings
Disable S voice responding to double-tap of the home button (in S Voice settings)
Don't use the Google search widget which listens for the "OK Google" command
TeslaUnread for Nova Launcher prime drains some battery too, don't use this unless you really like it
Use power saving mode when going out for a big day rather than relying on it as the battery is almost drained
Disable any apps you don't care about i.e. carrier bloat, Google apps like Play Movies, Books, Newstand and Samsung apps like the TV/remote apps, video player if you're using an alternative, cloud syncing processes and print/spool ones as well. This may not make a big difference but it's nice to get them out of sight anyway.
And most importantly, as mentioned previously, don't kill your apps. The only time I kill an app is for big 3D games as I like them to go away rather than sitting in RAM. I also have a little routine, when I do a reboot and full charge, I run all of my common apps like Hangouts, Messages, Phone, Chrome and my weather app so that they are sitting in RAM already while my phone's at 100% rather than draining my battery during my commute to work in the morning. I don't really have any particular reason to do this as my batter never gets anywhere near 0% by the end of the day, I'm just OCD with seeing it drain too much before I even get to work.
I don't think most of the suggestions above are too extreme. Unlike uninstalling commons apps such as Facebook/FB Messenger, or disabling your data/wifi/bluetooth or even turning sync off. To me this is taking away from the purpose of a smartphone, but each to their own.
