Anyone help, i'm unable to connect to internet via wifi. Phone sees my network and connects but then i can't view any web sites or even the market. I have tried forgetting the network and rebooting phone, it then finds wifi network i put in password, it connects, but then same. My laptop connects with no problems. Any ideas most welcome.
Backup data >> Factory reset phone .
jje
Thanks jje, phone is new to me, whats best way to back up. Phone came locked so i had to get it unlocked, If i do do a factory reset will it return to locked version or still be unlocked
The best way for the backup is to use Titanium Backup, you will find a free version on the market. You can backup all Apps and Systems Settings. It is easy to use and works very well with my SGS.
Thanks again, looked at titanium on the market, looks good, but it says i need to root phone which i'm not brave enough to do, any other good backup apps out there.
If you don't root your phone, you won't be able to do backups with data. Your best shot is to backup apps via file manager (ES File Manager, File Expert...) but then the Market won't update them anymore.

Hey y'all,
I tried to search for the answer to this but couldn't find anything. Basically, I have found certain websites (my company's webmail, for example) that show up fine when I'm on a wifi connection, but come in blank when I'm using a GPRS/HSPDA connection. I'm guessing it's either a proxy setting or a Pocket IE registry setting that is causing this, but I have nothing really to back that guess. Is there anything that can be done to let me see the websites on both connections?
When you connect to WiFi, are you at home or at work? Is it possible you are trying to connect to a site that can only be reached via the "privileged" WiFi connection you are using?
If you can connect via WiFi and not via phone...
a) You do not have the correct Carrier data profile connections installed for GPRS.
b) You have re-flashed you rom and suffered a)....!!!
c) You have lost data links and java access to sites. Install Java, or re-flash your operator and stick with the cheap option you purchased!!!
d) Check for the network setup wizard (on this forum) and go to your carriers website to check the settings.
Thanks for the replies guys...
@dunneldeen: that's a good thought, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be limited on which wifi connection - in other words, I can connect regardless of the wifi area (airport, home, coffee shop, etc.) so that's not the problem.
@Farsquidge: I'm not sure if I'm understanding right. I can hit most websites and see them fine over GPRS, just a few certain ones don't show up - thus, I don't think it's my carrier settings. Option C seems like a potential candidate, I'll try installing Java and see what happens, and I'll report back if successful.
Thanks!
Err. Please don't forget you are using 'Pocket IE' not full blown IE and it will report that back via cookie to whatever site you are on and they will send you the cut-down version.
Download the trial for Opera (Not the mini version) for Windows Mobile.
In it's setup you can set it to report as PC.
Yeah, I figured it was a Pocket IE problem. It just seems strange that it works on wifi fine but not GPRS: does it send different cookies thru wifi than GPRS?
Err.. Actually, ya caught me out there but hopefully I can go back to my previous post and say you have lost your carrier profile for net access!
This is probably a very specific issue that I'm experiencing but hopefully someone out there can help me.
I recently got an HTC Touch Diamond, running WM6.1. I use Internet Sharing on the phone and then connect it to my PC via a USB cable. I can then browse the web from my PC. If I now connect to my office VPN, it seems that the connection times out and / or is very slow. I can't even browse to other PC's on the network via the VPN connection as it times out. But I can ping the PC's so I know I'm definatly on the network.
Now I know what everyone is thinking... our VPN might be screwy. But if I use someone else in the office's phone (running WM6.0) I can connect and there is no problem whatsoever. The only difference is that he is on a different service provider than me (and of course a different phone).
I used to have a SE M600i before this phone and it worked perfectly on that (same service provider as now).
Has anyone experienced anything simular? Or have any ideas what I could check?
I've played around abit and found the following: When I take my SIM card and put it into another HTC running WM6.0 (can't remember the model) it works perfectly and I can browse our intranet sites over the VPN. So the problem is definatly limited to my phone.
I also used Internet Sharing on the other phone and then established the VPN connection from my laptop. I didn't change any of the settings so it is 100% the same on both phones as download from the service provider upon insertion of the SIM card.
On my phone when I'm connected to the VPN I can browse the network shares and download email, but as soon as I try and browse our intranet websites or try to connect to any database (using TOAD etc.) it doesn't seem to be able to retrieve data. Almost like the phone is not able to handle large amounts of data coming through... (i'm just guessing here)
Anyone know of any setting somewhere on the phone that could cause this to happen?
Finally got this working!!
I'm now using WMWiFiRouter to use my phone as a WiFi router and then connect to the internet from my pc. If I then connect to the VPN from my PC everything works fine.
I'm not sure if WMWiFiRouter implements Internet Connection Sharing differently than the normal ICS app on the phone, but it seems to work and it's pretty fast.
Can't believe it took two months - with absolutely no else seeming to have this issue - but I'm glad it's over now!!

i do. i cant even connect to the vpn, and using wmwifirouter the wifi button in comm manager is always switching to on.. even in flight mode !
so you're not alone in this one...
After a hard reset the wifi is only accessing local network (LAN) addresses, not working for internet access. The internet always worked using wifi before, but now only for LAN.
Using total commander I can access my local network, connect to the computers and copy/paste files without any problem, but using any browser or trying to get weather data just don't work. For the weather it says "There was a connection error while attempting to download weather data. Retry?". I can retry forever, the same problem.
Also I have tried to changed the phone radio, but it didn't worked, so I put back the previous one. Maybe this is the problem, but I can't understand why. Is there some tool to fix/format/something radio memory, just like mtty for the rom memory?
Thanks
You could try to change energy mode to best (battery)performance:
start >settings>connections>wifi>advanced>energy mode
(sorry if used words are not all correct, translated from dutch)

I've fixed it. I've changed to static settings and now it works. Sadly I have to do that on all wifi hotspots.
Thanks for your help
I have same problem with wifi. I am connected to wifi, but i can't go on internet or update weather data.
what did u change to static settings?
Thank you why did i not think of that before all ways wondered why the dumb phone did not want to connect to the internet using it's Wifi.
Such a big problem and what a simple solution. LOL
And I have Searched Google before and no solution to this there.
I got a problem with the wifi after I install the rom id Andro-rc3
I replace wpa_suplicant, in order to get an ad-hoc connection. and it worked. before that, my phone does not even detect the ad-hoc. and successfully
I can connect to wifi. surf smoothly. and others. but for some applications do not. like facebook. instagram. and certainly I never managed to upload anything. unless I move to 3G networks
can anybody help me?
I recently restored a backup of my AMCHA 4.4.4 rom (from p.a.n's CM13) and I can now not connect to any wifi network. It always sits on Obtaining IP address. If I select static IP and enter the details I can connect but not by using DHCP. Is there any way to fix/reset my wifi settings?
Thanks

Hi,
You should try several thnings:
1. In WIFI settings, forget your WIFI network and connect again
Or
2. Fix permissions of the file below using a root explorer app. Set 'read' and 'execute' for "user" and "group'" (and also maybe "others" if no luck)
system/etc/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-run-hooks
Then reboot the phone and try to connect to WIFI
Or
3. Reset your router

I have a wifi problem too, whenever I try to connect to it, it says saved. It doesn't even try to obtain an ip.
tried flashing stock multiple times but nothing worked. it's not a router problem as I changed my router and tried with multiple wifi networks, same thing is happening. dhcpcd-run-hooks already has read and execute for user & group. tried other but still doesn't work.
I think I messed up with the wifi settings using the xposed module "Phone ID changer" as when I try it launch it now, Advertising ID, wifi MAC and Wifi SSID is unavailable. The app can't assign a random one. I don't have a nandroid backup, my SD card got corrupted a while ago and I lost all my backups.
Do you know how to fix it?

I already had your issue a few times but after forgetting the network and connect to it again, problem was solved.... It seems to not be your case.
If you also have the problem with every router you can try (Wifi at home, at work, from a friend, etc.), it means the problem is your phone.
If you already tried all 3 suggestions of my post without luck and if you think something is messed up in WIFI settings, it means flashing official firmware + FULL WIPE should fix your issue.
If it's not the case, you should:
- Google a bit more (although I'm pretty sure you aleady did that...) because that's what I'm doing right now to help you.
- Ask yourself if it's not a hardware issue?
Sorry if I don't help much more. I really hope you will find the culprit :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for the suggestions, still can't get it to work on any network.
I wanted to avoid a full wipe, but i guess I'll give it a go. Cheers!
