When I open the browser, a Google search page is displayed instead of the specified home page (about:blank). How can I keep the browser from going to Google search?
I'm using the standard browser with Serendipity 6.3.
I get the same results when I use Firefox Mobile 4.0 browser.
From Google home page, go to menu/more/settings/set homepage. Put your desired hompage url in there.

That's exactly what I did without success. As I posted, the homepage is set to about:blank.
Hmmm...maybe try reset to default and try again?

No change. I even rebooted. The home screen setting shows about:blank but the browser still goes to Google.
I'm on Serendipity 6.3 too. Just changed my homepage url successfully...but had to close the browser in task manager for the new url to "take." You may have some other issue.

I tried that as well. No joy. Oh well, I'll keep digging. Thanks for your suggestions.

OK, I was trying to access videos on SyFy and came across tip to set UAString to "Desktop". I did that, but now when I start the browser I get an error that says "The application Browser (process com.android.browser) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. ........"
Unfortunately the error comes up before the browser opens, so I can't change settings back. Any ideas? A search both XDA and net didn't come up with anything.
Moved to Q&A.
I do not gave a direct answer but you can download a secondary browser from the market. Try dolphin. Atleast you will a browser

Thanks. I'm using Dolphin HD, but I'd like to get phone back. As last resort, will One Click Restore restore the apps too?

Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > click Menu and select Filter by All > Scroll down to Browser and click Clear Data
Keep in mind this will return all your settings to default (including uastring) and also delete all your favorites. BUT, your browser will be back working.
THANK YOU!! Worked like a charm.
Now did thst happen BECAUSE I changed the IAString, or just a tandom data corruption? Snyone know?

1. Which programs are affected by Enabling multitouch?
Should it enable pinch zooming in the browser? So far the only app i see it working on is Maps.
2. Whats a good browser replacement?
3. Is there a way to get the Xda app to remember your password. I seem to have to always manually sign in each time i go to a different app.
4. Does any1 have the calendar.apk handy?
Thanks

I believe it relates to apps which dont have it coded in, but support it... Im sorry its not that helpful but the classic browser works with it, but not without the enable where as firefox works by default.
I like firefox because it can sync with your firefox on your computer. This makes opening tabs you have open there open to you if you wish, and imports your bookmarks. This works for me since I can sync my phone/nook/pc all in 1 go.
I dont use it.
No sorry.
It keeps starting up with google.com even if it's set to another page under setting. I already shut off all location based features (GPS, etc), but not sure if this relates.
Is there any fix on this or it's a common bug?
Set home page then shut down phone, then restart phone, it should load now.

Tried already. Actually, in the settings, it displays the url as the one I set as a homepage, but even that it will still load google.com when the browser is launched.
Everytime when going back to the browser, it will load a new window and go to google.com
Is there a file in the system's directory that can be deleted to clear the cache? Not sure if this is possible if the phone is not root.
Try clearing cache, history, etc. in the browser settings, then remove the battery, install battery and see if that works.

Still no help, already tried the following:
Cleared all cache, set browser to factory setting, removed battery, removed SD card. Rebooted still loading google.com
Any other method besides going for the last step which is a hard reset? If there is a file in the browser's system directory that can be deleted to reset the preferences.
Are you typing in a valid url, if not it goes straight to Google, just a thought.
Download Dolphin Browser from the market, see if it works ok from that browser. It sets your homepage correctly. I had the same problem as you with the stock browser, but my instructions worked fine for me.

I tried firefox, opera mobile, dolphin all started up with google.com (same as the stock browser), even I set it with another "valid" url, they all ignored it.
I guess there is not a choice but a hard reset.
And of course the url is valid, it's a major one, which I have to enter manually each time because the browser ignores it.
Does anyone have an idea if this has to do with the location setting for GPS?
I'm running the latest liberty rom and i was wondering if there is a way to set the browser to not use mobile web and just open the regular web page all the time

I can't remember if you can change the user agent but I know you can in other browsers such as Opera and Dolphin.

Shouldn't I be able to just type something in the address bar to disable it? I wonder?

You could always see if you can get a URL that indicates non-mobile. Sometimes I have seen a www.whatever.com/index.php?m=0 or something similar where the m means mobile and 0 means false. Maybe bookmark the URLs? Lemme look for a setting in the default Android browser.

Nope, no setting. Try Dolphin or Opera.

CM7's browser has options for this. You could potentially compile the CM7 browser for the motoblur framework (I know there is a technique to do this) and put it in /system/data/ in place of Liberty's browser. Obviously it's not nearly as simple as that, but if you really want user-agent settings in the browser, that seems like the way to go. Otherwise, you can flash CyanogenMod now and deal with some of the audio and camera issues, or wait until it's stable to get the user-agent settings.
I would assume the browser would respond to 'about:debug'?
Type about:debug in the address bar and hit go/enter/whatever. It shouldn't visibly do anything. Then hit the menu button > More > Settings > UAString (very last on the list) and change it to 'Desktop'.
It doesn't really stick (you may have to do this each time you launch the browser), but it does work.
Thanks man that works perfect exactly what I wanted

Probably a silly question but I've Google it and cannot find an answer. When I close the stock Internet app with the home button and reopen it later it resets back to my home Page. Is there any way I can get it to stay on the pages I have open when I exit?
Thanks,
Sam.

If your on ics rom the internet browser always open where you left it, in the setting just check the remember form data.
If your on ics rom and doing from the above still does not solve your problem then go to setting advanced and reset to default.
