[SOLVED] xda app, posting: bug or stupidity - HD2 Android Themes and Apps

Please help me. I down'ed the xda app from the market, and installed (for the third time right now). I log in, my name's shown correct, but I can't find the "post" or "reply" button... even pressing the menu-button doesn't help. Is it probably because of the little white loading circle at the very bottom on the screen? tapping and holding a post gives me choice to "show author profile" or "send author pm". Me dumb or app buggy? (posting via mobile site, btw...)

aaah... first post is not possible via app... just checked back to the app, and there the buttons are

Short Search Button

Forgive me as I'm sure this has been asked.
I've run search on XDA app as well as googled, and looked everywhere in settings.
My short press search button no longer brings up search function from the home screen. Haptic tells me it's reading fine. Long press to voice search is still good. Short press search in other apps is good too.
Also, MENU | SEARCH is dead too, in home screen.
Running CM nightly 233 & ADW.
Kind of lost. Pointer much appreciated.

Mine works fine on CM 6.1
I'm guessing you've confirmed Google Search app is installed?

Just verified, yup, and runs no problem. Just independent of the button.

I'm guessing you're using CM? And had to delete the GoogleSearch apk and reinstall it from Market to upgrade? Your search is on /data. You need it on /system for the key to work. Get root explorer, or use terminal if you understand basic cd, ls, cp, and mv. Look in /data/app and find the apk for search, rename it to QuickSearchBox.apk, and push it to /system/app. Then reboot, and it should work.
Edit: I can't remember, it might be GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk. I think it's what I said the first time, but if that doesn't work, try it with Google in front of it and reboot again. My N1 is currently backing up in recovery or I'd check.
That's it, GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk. Thanks much.

HTC navigation software

Hi I recently had to factory reset my desire hd. Today I opened the car panel and the navigation button is greyed out, and I cannot find the application in the app draw. Does anyone know a way to get hold of the .apk or can anyone post it up. I still have the map files on my SD card.
Thanks.

Try adding the Footprints widget to see if it gives you the option to redownload locations, I had a similar problem and that did it for me,

I don't have a footprint widget in my list of widgets...

Well I put the locations widget on the home screen and got into the navigation, and activated my free trial (something I didn't do before, or have to do) and the icon is no longer blanked out. However I'm sure there was a direct link to the map application without having to go through the car panel.
Thanks for the help, looks like footprints has been combined with locations etc.

Sweet so the app is there, are you still missing the locations app in your app list?
try going to: settings -> location -> reinstall (under location service)
this reinstalls the htc locations app
I reinstalled it for a second time and it is now functioning and the icon has been restored, thanks for all the help guys.

How to access browser history?

I googled and tried holding back arrow but nothing happened. The I clicked something somewhere and BAM a card view of history. I never managed to open it again
Any ideas?
P.S. I know you can view history as a list in [*] button.
Long press on the back button seems to consistently bring up browser history. I'm running CM 7.1

You aren't referring to the history that you can find when you view your favorites?

[Q] tapped back soft button 3 times from stock camera app

When I am in the camera app, i tapped the back soft key rapidly 3 times to exit camera app to go into my home screen. However it launches me into the google quick search.
This is not a major issue but juz like to know if anyone encounters this too. Software glitch or meant to be this way? I know that dragging from soft keys will bring us to quick search.

Do you mean Google Now? AKA Google Cards?
My phone does this and it did it on my Xperia T.
It does it in almost any situation where i hit the back button multiple times quickly and gets very annoying after a while!
Right. Sorry bout that. I meant Google Now. Apparently only happened in camera app. No prob with other app. And yes very irritating!

you can disable it . go into settings / applications choose all app tab and find google search apk uninstall updates and disable it and you will not have that issue anymore.
Thank you! That helped alot!

How do you get forum emails to open App on Note8

On my note 4 when I click on s link it opens XDA Spp, on note8 it only opens in browser. Have I missed a setting somewhere?
I believe it may have to do with which xda app you are using.
case in point, I must have installed the XDA Premium HD (also known as the XDA Legacy app) by mistake. Every time I click on an notification email from xda, it opens up my browser and not the xda app.
It seems that the older app does not take into account deep linking urls so the system thinks you want to view the link in a browser.
Proof of this is the app is not listed in the "Set as Default" settings page.
So go to Settings, Apps, clicking on the 3 dot menu, Default apps, Set as Default and the "Set as Default" page appears.
The Open links in apps button should be enabled.
If you installed th wrong xda app like the XDA Legacy app (XDA Premium), it will not show up on that list, but if you install the regular XDA (with ads) or the XDA Labs app (no ads), they will appear on that list.
Then and only then, when you click on a link pointing to xda, the popup will appear asking you to open the link in xda or your browser. So long as you are using the recent app and not the legacy older one.
Hope this helps.
TS out
Was using right app but didn't get popup, went in to app setting and changed url open from "always ask" to "in this app" now working thanks.
