Hi all,
I am new to android but I used to mod my motorola V3 and also jailbreak my iphone so I am not a complete n00b
Thing is I just flashed [ROM] Release: I9000XWJM9 - MultiCSC(s) Europe to my phone. It is a Spanish i9000 GT galaxy S. The flash went well and the phone works, it is fast and smooth. But now I have some issues.
1. There is no 3G, (I can make calls but no data)
2. I can't send text messages (I can receive them but not send them)
3. Cant' root it - I have gone through the process several times, it says rooting phone, but then in applications there is no superuser logo. I downloaded Titanium backup to restore my apps and it says that the phone is not rooted???
Where have I gone wrong?
Drew
Did you create the APN settings?
you need to configure the APN before you can get 3G and MMS

Hi and thanks for your reply. No I didn't create the APN settings, I thought it was something to do with carrier settings. Could you please post me a link to information on how to do this...
Any thoughts on why I can't root my phone?
Update: Thanks for the tip, I did a quick search and located the APN settings for my carrier. I still can't root my phone though which is strange. It goes through the motions but there is no superuser icon????
[Resolved] Flashing different rom
Thanks for the help, I downloaded the same ROM but from samfirmware and then I flashed it using a generic CSC file and I had no problems rooting it.

Hey everyone,
I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S from Sasktel sometime in mid-october. This is the first android phone I've ever had, and after a few days i decided to try to root it. The rooting process went fine and I had absolutely no problems with my phone. However, i eventually decided to try a custom ROM. I went with Darky's Raw Steel Edition from this forum but after i successfully installed it (v2.2) I could no longer connect to the data network. I could still make calls and receive texts, but any sort of internet connection wouldn't work. When version 3.0 of the rom came out I installed it but had the same problem. I thought my best option at this point would be to just restore to the stock 2.1 firmware. I wasnt exactly sure what my phone had been on when i bought it, but i decided that I9000XWJM9 from samfirmware would be my best bet. I flashed with odin, and now I have no network connection at all! Does anyone know what my problem could be? Thanks so much to anyone who can point me in the right direction!
Find your apn settings from your provider or google it and it is is this forum aswell where theres list of them just enter your apn settings for your provider manually.
Go to www.tweaker.com and get the settings for ur network

Thanks for the help! However, I'm having some trouble finding the APN settings for sasktel, if anyone could post a link or something that would be great. And gadgetcheck, I think you gave me the wrong link, it takes me to like a media site with nothing about APN settings as far as I can see.

the SaskTel i9000m stock firmware is JH2. If you're going to use a custom rom, use Doc's. That's what I'm currently using, no issues whatsoever (also on SaskTel in Saskatoon ) If you need the apn settings, let me know, and I'll just copy them out for you, but I'm pretty sure Doc's rom already has them, as I never had to add them. Though maybe they just carried over from my JH2 install?
Hi,
I flashed the latest stable CM7 for the i9000 last night and now i can't get 3G signal. I flashed back to the stock Bell rom and everything worked fine, but when I put CM7 I only get a roaming signal.
I'm on Fido in Montreal and I've put the correct fido apn, but the phone recognizes the sim as CAN Rogers Wireless Inc. Before it would first state Rogers and then automatically switch to Fido and I'd have full 3G signal, but now it just says on Rogers and roaming.
I've tried installing different modem files, but still no luck.
I can't make calls or use the internet.
Can anyone please help me?
Thanks in advance!

i hope this help you and don t forgot to save all your files in pc and remove external card
I managed to get it to work after trying different radio and modem files, but now i have another problem.
I am with Fido, but the phone now identifies the network as Rogers Wireless. I know they're both the same network, but before it would be identified as Fido. Is this a problem? Are there any risks of being charged roaming fees?
I'm using the same Fido APN as before...
Hi I have the ATT Galaxy Tab Model SGH-i987 That I just flashed with Overcome 4.0.0 exactly per the instructions provided by Alterbridge86 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881981 I checked and double checked each step before proceeding and even installing the "AT&T JK3 Modem.bin file in Odin as instructed.
Everything went smooth and everything seems to work including WiFi except, I have no AT&T data service at all. No Edge, no 3G, no H, nothing... :crying:
Thanks,
Tom
I also noticed that all my AT&T apps and widgets are gone even though I did a backup with Titaniun Backup as instructed.
well, if you backup, you need to restore.
But be aware that Overcome is GB based, your AT&T stuff is Froyo based.
You may not get it restored and working properly.
Now, do you have WiFi? As in not AT&T cellular. the 802.11g thing.
Can you make call and send sms?
what does it say under baseband in the phone info?

Thanks for the reply... I restored what the overcome instructions told me to back up however, none of the AT&T apps or widgets where among them. My impression based on the instructions for the Overcome Flash was that my AT&T AT&T data plan would work. Out of the instructions I quote " The Overcome ROM/Kernel is intended for GSM-based Samsung GAlaxy Tabs Only! (GT-P1000/T-Mobile*/AT&T*/Telstra* Tabs Only) * Please use the appropriate modems when flashing!
Later it says to flash with the JK3 Modem.bin file which I did. Like I said, I followed the instructions exactly checking each step before proceeding. I had NO errors or hang ups in the installation and everything PASSED and is working fine except that I have no AT&T data service.
WiFi works on my home network. Here is the info requested:
Model Number now says: GT-P1000 before upgrade it was SGH-i987
Baseband Version is now: I9000UGK3 before upgrade it was I987UCK1
Kernel version is now: 2.6.357 Overcome-v4.0.0 #40 before upgrade it was 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build Number is now: Overcome 7 Series v4.1.0 before upgrade it was FROYO.UCJK1
This is the other info I have now:
Phone number: Same as before upgrade
Network: AT&T
Signal Strength: -92 dBm 9asu
Mobile Network Type: HSDPA
Service State: In Service
Roaming: Not Roaming
Mobile Network State: Disconnected
IMEI: Same as before Upgrade
IMEI SV: 05 this was 02 before upgrade
Network Mode is GSM/WCDMA
I also tried manually setting network operators. When searching two AT&T come up. When I select one of the two AT&T manually it says "your SIM does not allow a connection on this network." It registers to the other just fine however. When I "Select Automatically" It also seems to work.
I tried removing the SIM but all that does is want the Tab to go into initial reboot. when I reinserted the SIM and rebooted nothing had changed.
I can not make calls. An AT&T voice prompt comes up and says "The call you are trying to place is not allowed from this line."
I can also not send or receive SMS messages although I receive no errors. This however may be due to the fact that I previously called AT&T months ago and told them I did not want to receive SMS messages because I was getting all kinds of Spam messages every day and getting charged for them.
I am hoping that maybe phdeez can also chime in here since he says he has the Tab with AT&T. Here is my initial post to XDA that convinced me to update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982476
Thanks,
Tom
you can try these:
1) go to the modem thread in dev section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069727
first post has something called AT&T stock modem.
I am not sure if it is the same as Overcome JK3
Actually I would expect JK3 modem to have a "JK3" in the baseband, doesn't it?
Use CWM to flash that one from modem thread and see what the baseband said
(it better say I987UCK1 because it is stock...)
2. make sure you have AT&T APN correctly set.
about not able to make phone call, I think AT&T maintain a list of IMEI and know that you have a tablet. It is too bad that you can't make call, but the modem thing hopefully solve the 3G.
One note to you just as extra knowledge (not needed now), the CWM flashable modem only works for stock (so called BML partition) ROM, like Overcome.
When you move on to CM9 or CM10 (MTD partition rom), you only need to use root explorer to copy the modem.bin to /radio/modem.bin

I agree with what priyana has stated above.
I believe ATT maintains a list of IMEIs to block calling, however there might be a workaround with a different SIM - calling did NOT work before the upgrade, right?
Possible Modem issue, however since you see networks, you're probably good
APN Settings are likely blocking internet
See here for APN settings for ATT link, however I would combine the settings into one APN since you're not using the phone function. So, the APN should look like:
Code:
Name: ATT
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username: -
Password: -
Server: -
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com/
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: -
APN Type: mms,supl,default,internet
APN Protocol: ipv4
I wish I could speak from experience on using my Tab with ATT Data (or with Overcome ROM), however as soon as I received it I disabled my plan and took the SIM out. I never actually ran data with ATT's network, and just recently attempted to use my ATT Tab on Tmo. For the longest time my Tab was a wifi-only Tab...
I am sooooo frustrated right now. I've tried several modems and checked and double checked the APN settings. I am beginning to wonder if maybe its not working because I no longer have the AT&T apps or widget? I don't know why they didn't get backup-ed and restored by Titanium Backup. I guess I just didn't have that option checked.
Where can I get the AT&T stock apps and widget?
Any additional help is appreciated...
Oh... Should I maybe try starting all over with the Overcome Flash from the beginning? I am so afraid of bricking my Tab.
Thanks,
Tom
is there at any stage you have baseband I987UCK1 in Overcome ?
keep that modem, and fix other things.

Ok... THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! :highfive: The above finally worked. I am using the stock AT&T Modem and on baseband ( i987UCJK1 ). Most importantly!!! Create a New APN... And fill out the APN just like it says in the quote by Priyana above and in the article. LEAVE EVERYTHING ELSE BLANK!!! No Proxy, no Port, No MMSC, No MMS info nothing. Working like a charm now.
Now if I could only get the phone to work as a side benefit then that would be sweet... I didn't have it before in froyo so that would be new.
Thanks again guys and especially Priyana.
Tom
