[APP] Skype with Video Leaked for Android - G Tablet Themes and Apps

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/04/1...eed&utm_campaign=Feed:+DroidLife+(droid+life)
Post and let us know if you can get it working with your gtab!
edit: So, I just tried it on my gTab running CM7.0 Stable and it would not install... "Application Not Installed" BOOO.... Hopefully one of you guys will have some luck, IMHO Skype with video is the only thing this Tab is missing!

Same here... Installed great on my Thunderbolt... no go on my GTablet running CM7 Stable. Wish someone could get this going. Would be a great addition to the G Tab.

No-go on Calkulin's ROM as well.

Why is Skype doing this? Why are they releasing device specific apps only?

Money I am sure Verizon and the HTC have an exclusivity deal on the software for a short amount of time. Thus the proprietary HTC libraries.
Are there any devs that know if its possible for a port of this? This is above my paygrade I do have a rooted Thunderbolt (Mecha) and willing to get any files that may be needed. Let me know.

Won't install on my Atrix. :-(

Mecha is the HTC build name for the tbolt. So the library is Tbolt specific.

so would something simple as dropping that library file somewhere enable this to work on other devices?

worth a try

Tried on CM7 4-11...no install
Added to the GTab App List

gosh ! we need this thing to work !

I love it to function. Could use my Thunderbolt to talk with my family at home using my g tab when I am away.

Doesnt work, should we ask in the development forum?

It doesn't work because Android 2.2 supports only 1 camera natively, which is the rear facing camera on 2-camera devices. So to access the front camera, they have to write device-specific code.
Android 2.3 supports multiple cameras, but the software have to be changed to use the new API provided. Otherwise, it won't work.

I am pretty new to Android OS but I have been messing with Blackberry OS for years and what we always did was remove or change the vendor specific files to make apps and OS versions work on other devices. Since the gtab has only 1 cam can't this be done to make the app work or is the code android uses just that much more complicated than Blackberry?

I have a thunderbolt and I'm running this version of skype with video. I also have a GTab, so if somebody smarter than me can tell me what files to get off the thunderbolt (I'm rooted and have root explorer) and where to put it on GTab running Vegan Ginger, I'll try it...
*EDIT* So a search on the TB finds /etc/permissions/com.htc.device.xml, /system/framework/com.htc.device.jar and /system/framework/com.htc.device.odex
Thoughts?

Won't install on Vegan 511

I'm thinking it has something to do with the update_navigation.zip I flashed cause I know it did something with the build.props and whatnot. And it also worked before I flashed this.
I don't use that but how much did it modify your build.prop?
does your phone say android 2.0 or is it still showing 1.6?

I believe it changed 1-2 lines and yes my phone still shows 1.6. I just looked at my app drawer to and it shows I have 2 settings apps, odd I'm going to restart my phone see if it goes away.
I hate to say this but it's not nav....
And I don't think it's CM4.2.5.
I know this because I was fine on a fresh install until I reinstalled all my other apps. Then I started getting crashes. I think it was a combination of advanced launcher, and google voice that started the misbehavior.
Maybe it's just one of them.
My solution was...
I dropped appmanager. I loved that program, but discovered that Astro can back-up your apk's too. It just doesn't uninstall existing apks.
But... advanced task manager does have an uninstall feature, and it allows me to slap mis-behaving programs around as well as services.
The simplicity of one program, replaced by the combination of 2 more powerful programs.
But hey, what do I care....I have Apps2sd!

I sent a email to the dev with the situation and what not. but Google voice to me never interfered before with app manager. Hopefully I get it figured out soon cause appmanager made my life alot simpler ><, I am willing to try new things but if this gets repaired it would be greater!
i have all 3 google voice..nav..and app manager pro working.. just fine on mine..
Just to clarify...
I am almost certain it's not nav because I had stopped using app manager, before even thinking of adding nav to the system.
That didn't really come out in the first post.

Issue with the latest mod
did you guys try reinstalling the app? maybe it requires additional permissions after the latest rom upgrade

I got a hold of the dev and gave him a complete catlog. He released an update on the market and problem solved!

[Q] Apps disappearing from Market

I've just recently updated to The JH2 build for the captivate and was wondering why certain apps may not show up in the market.
The one's that I can't seem to redownload are Square, Calorie Counter by Fatsecret, and My Work Schedule.
I can probably sideload them if need be, but I'm worried about what new apps I could be missing in the market. Also, Market Enabler is set to T-Mobile, and all carriers showed the same apps as "not found."
Yup, I noticed this too. I can't get Homerun Battle 3D nor Text Bomber.. I paid for both

That's because it's a beta ROM...It also has logging turned on so if you use your GPS it will store all the data and create a huge log file taking up lots on memory.. They also disabled USB tethering in to..You would be better off flashing back to the JF6 Stock ROM...

The original galaxy tab, the android market and the cache partition

Hi folks
So, world of goo is out on the android market and I just purchased it. However, although downloading perfectly to my phone, the gtab complains that there's not enough space for the 47mb apk file.
Taking a look at the app partition and I have over 1 gig left, so what's the deal? An email to the android market support team reveals :
"It looks like the app you're trying to download is 47(M), which is larger than your device's cache partition. Your device is unable to download apps from Android Market that are larger than the cache partition even though you may have enough internal storage space available."
Questions : what is this cache partition?
Can it be increased?
Are there work arounds to this limitation?
I have asked the market if this is hardware of software related and the reply I got was to contact Samsung. Wish me luck with that.
Another remark, this really only useful for people wishing to purchase an app on the market that is around the same size and download and update the app through the market. I have backed up the apk in question from my phone and manually installed it from the internal memory onto the tablet. Please see below the correct method to purchase and install world of goo without the Android market.
I am not in any way encouraging piracy, I bought the app and installed it on another device because of a limitation in the Android is of which I couldn't download directly through the market. Like I said, to successfully buy and install this app is given below (pardon me if I breach any forum rules there).
Downloading and installing the demo (~25mb) worked fine so maybe the limitation is around 30mb.
Anyone wanting world of goo for now could try their support's advice instead of the market:
"Android Market imposes some device-specific limitations on the size of applications that can be installed. If you played the demo, but can't see the full game on Android Market, you can buy the full version from us here: http://worldofgoo.com/shop.php? platform=android
Note that our server is struggling with the load right now, so if it's broken, keep trying!
You will need to enable installation of non-market apps. Usually you will be prompted to do this automatically when trying to install the game, but here are the manual steps should you need them: 1) Go to Settings > Applications 2) Check the box next to Unknown sources
If you'd rather wait, Google has informed us that they are working on this issue, but we do not know when it will be fixed."
Just a heads up to anyone wanting an app specifically for their tab that is 30mb + from the Android market.

If anyone finds it too much to read I'm basically asking what is the market cache and why does it stop me from installing apps from the market?

Answer & help
This is't a unkown problem, and what you are doing is't in fact piracy - co's you've purchased it fair and square...
The market cache is the place market downloads your app to. Thus this is only a temporaily location for the application. When download is completed Android begins to install the App from the cache where it was downloaded. Once installed, the application is removed from the cache.
There is a filesize limit of your cache and it ranges between 25 mb to 40+ depending on what firmware you're using.
You can see the avaible cache by using Astro file manager. Tap the up arrow until your reaches the root wich is indicated as a /
/mnt/sdcard/ --> /mnt/ --> /
I am however, unsure whenever you'll need root priviliges to see that...
If you don't have enough cache the phone will report that there is't enough space on the device, even though you have serveral gigabytes at your disposal.
I hope this answers you question, for further info and for a possible solution to this problem, please check my post that i already created (that way we won't have to check 2 post )

What do you think an Android APK database be like?

Seeing how at times user scramble from site to site to find a much needed or latest APK file I was thinking on developing a website, where Android users can submit variety of Android APK files, from System apks to applications (file size is limited to 25mb to prevent piracy of paid Play applications)
The database in part would act like an Archive containing different versions for different applications. Allowing users to download whatever APK file they may be looking for, from older builds to the newest KitKat rips. I have mirrored one single APK file here, com.android.vending-4.5.10.apk and based on my old project statistic the file has already been downloaded 1677 times (and counting), as of this this APK database would allow 3rd party mirrors (MediaFire, Mega, Dev-Host, Box, Dropbox, Yandex.Disk and Google Disk) along with internal filesystem build on top of either RackSpace Cloud Files or Amazon S3 or even Google AppEngine Storage
The thing is what information do you think should be stored along the APK files for user and developer convenience? I would also like to hear some feature suggestion that would be useful to everyone.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Here is a quick Prototype UI/UX I been working for past day while in bed sick

Keeping the data limit to 25mb will do little to prevent piracy. There is a plethora of paid apps under that size. Unless there is strong, continuous oversight, it won't work.

Yes I did consider that. Thus all uploads would require mod/admin approval. Otherwise other possibility was allowing banned applications to be available like CyanogenMod Installer. This was a purely concept of a rather useful idea if it can be turned into more pros vs cons.

Needed: eBook Manager for NST ( eInk , Android 2.1)

rooted NST running relaunch
I have 5000 ePubs and 200 PDSs all on SDCard
I already use Leger Calibre on my Nook HD and Nook Tablet
Is there any eBook Manager that will work with the Android 2.1 eInk?
I tried to install Leger Calibre and eLibraryManagerBasic1.4.1.apk but no luck
C:\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>adb install eLibraryManagerBasic1.4.1.apk
476 KB/s (2106163 bytes in 4.318s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/eLibraryManagerBasic1.4.1.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK]
Is there any way to manage or create Collections from a PC for the NST?
Maybe Sqlite commands or something ...
It is way too slow and ugly to browse the SDcard or run search from the Library app
TIA Dave

A real problem on the NST. The best I've found is Renate's Library.apk http://www.temblast.com/download/Library-1.11.apk
That doesn't have the option for categories or keywords, however.
You might want to take a look at this post on the mobilread.com forums. I came across it a few weeks ago and thought it was an interesting approach--although I have not tried it. Yet.
AFAIK tags are ignored by the Nook Library App

I use tags extensively to auto generate collections on the Sony PRS T2
I aso use Calibre catalogs but that is so lame compared to Leger Calibre and eBook Library Manager where you can view the Metadata and read the book in 2 swipes
The obsolete version of Android makes it unlikely for a hero developer to rescue us...
I wish I had better coding skills for DIY...
