Blackberry and iPhone users have one, so why don't we?
I have found one app (here: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.collegelabs-tfln-znwt.aspx) but the reviews are poor, and the QR code doesn't pull it up in the market. I've got the .apk but it won't install (running CDMA hero with the Fresh 1.0 rom).
Is anyone else interested in us getting a TFLN app?
It's not hard to set it as a bookmark. That's what I do.
I dunno a software would sound entertaining an easier than going to the website.
TFLN app
@riotkid976
There is an app on the market called TFLN, the one you found on androlib. The dev just added support for cupcake (which is why would couldn't find it) devices so you should be able to download it now.
sweet. thats pretty handy!
Anyone try this? The full version launched today looks awesome! I got the APK but I am still waiting for my gtab, installing on phone now =D
For wat its worth, I installed it on my Incredible and pretty much ruined my phone. All I got was a black screen and I had accidentally clicked the box saying "Use SPB3D everytime" so I couldn't get around it. Luckily I had a nandroid backup...
Tried on my GTAB even though the page on the Android market says tablets are not supported..
And yeah.. no go..
It also didn't work with my Nexus One.
Bummer I was waiting for this to come out.
=o(
Edit: See post #6
no go for me as well...
I used SPB aoftware previously, and loved their UI. As far as this new 3D launcher, SPB noted that they do not support tablet platform.
It Does Work on the GTAB (sorta)
This is a demo video of SPB Shell 3D Beta
This is a modified fixed version for incompatible devices
I HAVE TO STRESS THIS NOW!, I DO NOT CONDONE SOFTWARE PIRACY!
I bought the paid version for my N1 and it didn't work at first but my 15 mins expired so I wound up keeping it. I flashed CM7RC4 and tried it again and it worked so I'm happy about that.
But the curiousity was killing me so I had to try it out on the GTAB
Sorry about the wobbly video, I used my N1 to record.
The launcher does have its drawbacks:
I have yet to explore the launcher completely so there may be more drawbacks I haven't discovered yet but it does not support live wallpaper and it does support auto rotate while in desktop mode
So there you have it.. It does work on the GTAB.. sorta!

The interface looks kinda cool. I don't know how functional it is or if I would use it though.
How did you get it to work on the Gtab in any case?
I had no luck with vegan 5.5.1 and Clemsin's kernel.

After getting the apk file on my device.
I closed all data connections (Wi-Fi, 3G, 2G, EDGE) all outside internet connections.
Installed the apk. After installation was done I pressed the home key.
A dialog window popped up asking which launcher I wanted to use.
I chose SPB.
The software proceeded to load.
A dialog window popped saying the software was not activated and would I like to activate it now?. I chose Yes.
Since there was no connection to the internet activation skipped an it proceeded to finish loading the software.
A dialog window popped up saying my device was not supported.
I pressed ok and it closed ( it went back to ADW-EX )
I powered down completely, then started my device.
Upon completion of startup I slid the unlock key and a dialog window popped asking what launcher I wanted to use. I chose SPB.
With all data connections still closed the activation window popped up again.
I chose yes, the software loaded and another dialog window popped saying my device was unsupported.
I waited a few minutes before pressing the OK box (around five minutes)so the software can continue to load in the background.
I checked the OK box and Bingo.. my desktop had SPB loaded and working,
the process is tedious I know..
Just to point out I take NO CREDIT for this. I found the fixed apk floating around the web with instructions on how to install and decided to give it a try.
And again I need to stress this out.. I DO NOT CONDONE SOFTWARE PIRACY!
I tried to find the site with the instructions but it was apparently pulled yesterday shortly after I got SPB working.
Works for my incredible.
Drawbacks
1. Non-rotating
2. Icons automatically move up. Meaning you can't place them anywhere.
3. No 4x4 weather unless you use the panel one.
4. Can't resize anything.
5. Other things I'm sure, but I'm at work so I had to make this post snappy.

seem nice, but too pricey, SPB used to be good on wince, they can make great app but 15$ without at least a trial is a no go for me...

There are actually several different names out there for the modified apk but the one I can remember off the top of my head was Spb_Shellfix.apk from "mydroid.info".
I just bought/downloaded this right from the Market and it's freaking beautiful and works great. Running Vegan Ginger. Maybe newer versions are more tablet-friendly?

No, but I don't like using my tablet in landscape anyway because of the poor viewing angle, so that works out well for me. I don't think SPB Shell runs in landscape anywhere, though - does it?

So it appears that Netflix has finally been released for us, except it is currently not compatible with our phones. It seems to currently only be available for 2.3 devices and 1 other 2.2 phone. Can someone with cm7 running see if they can download this and share a link. Its free so it shouldn't be considered warez
I've been KANGBANGED!!!!!
It's not available in the market for CM7.

My bro with the EVO 4G (one of few devices its ok on) has CM7 and downloaded it just fine from market.
I have a thread in Q&A asking for apk for this new release and I have found an old version and a new version. Check thread for links.

Confirmed over in the Nook forum that a Build.prop spoof is all that is needed. I'm at work but anyone care to try and post your results?

Tried the build prop by pass.
Downloaded the current one off the market. App closes after sign in. But u don't get the unsupported device error.
Seems like it requires gingerbread.

I didn't copy the whole build prop.
Just from the model to brand samsung.
That causes unsupported device error.
And when signing in closes app as well.

And for those who asked, I can download it just fine with Kaos's CM7, but it just says it's not supported. Need to bypass or spoof or something. From what I've read in the past netflix is requiring DRM support in the processors or something, I don't know. I'm not the biggest developer so I couldn't tell ya, just passing along what I read. I know the snapdragons have DRM Keys in the processor, that's why they are the first to get it. I think the TI OMAP Does too, so motorola phones will probably be next. I have no idea of our hummingbird does. But seeing how the Nexus S has it, if our processor doesn't then odds are something in gingerbread supports it, emulation or something? I don't know, I'm not a dev.
Mostly everyone has pretty much agreed that this is probably a software limitation, as it isn't limited by carrier or processor (Nexus S & Moto Droids), as we believed to be the case.

Well technically everything is a software issue when you get down to it. It's what controls the hardware.
Tried the build.prop file edit and it still gets the device not supported block.
Not sure what it is but, I'll keep looking.
btw, have latest apk and flash 10.3.
No dice
I tried the build.prop spoof and I get to the sign-in screen just fine, but then it crashes after I enter my username/password.
I did the build.prop edit (to a HTC Vision) and got the video to open without getting the "device not supported" error. Edit: I had to use Root Explorer to edit the file, Astro wouldn't save the changes to build.prop
Once the video opened it played one second of audio and then got a f/c. I'm running Jt's CM7 alpha v3 - so it might be similar to the other video codec issues with the ROM?
No go on community rom with nexus s build prop
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I changed my build.prop to show that I have an incredible but then it froze on video playback. I think when streaming it is checking for DRM keys. Similar to how dish network does, sound is not encrypted but video probably is? I think it's going to need more than a simple build.prop hack.
But as I said in my last post, I'm not a developer. We can spoof all day but without the keys or some sort of DRM emulation I don't think we're going to get video.
Modified the build.prop, which allowed me to install it from the market, but closes after sign -in.
Will try to post a logcat later, if there is any developer interest.

The Cortex-A8 has DRM, so it wouldn't be hard to generate the keys for that.

saw people were having luck with spoofing the i.d. of their device to a compatible device to trick netflix into working.
It installed fine and brings up my instant queue and such, just won't play them. Gives me a "your device is not currently supported".
Haven't had time to install the custom ROM and delve into those things yet, maybe next week I will.

I tried with all the values mentioned in that thread. Still no dice and changing all these to "vision" will FC Swype. even after changing build.prop back.
Swype back after cache and dalvik wiped. I'm noticing most with unofficial devices are having luck w/ cyanogen roms.
I have the LG G2X phone which is a tegra 2 and netflix is working for me just fine.
I made only two changes to the build.prop. but it only ran when I had CM 7 installed. Not when I had stock froyo. I just tried with the streak 7 and it looks like it starts to play but then exits.. It's also not working on the asus transformer with the build.prop
weird that it works on an asop rom.
Stupid question, Cause I have a G1 and a HD2 which can run android. Think either of these would be able to be used to test if this works? Or would it be pointless.
Im running Netflix now on my HTC Aria running FR008 Rom. bet it works on yours too!

The hd2 can run netflix fine as long as you use the nexus one based builds. I run it without a problem. The Hd2 has been able to run netflix using windows phone 7 since windows phone 7 was able to be ran on it.
Thanks, Upgraded from Superram to the Nexus GB rom, Got it on my HD2 now. =)
Now just to wait on Dell.... sending my streak 7 in to get rid of this random menu/keyboard poping up issue Ive been having. Then hopefully things work 100% stable.

Seriously thinking about getting the lapdock, since the Atrix one is very cheap and easily modified to work with the Droid 4.
Only problem is I don't want to go back to the stock ROM. Has anyone gotten Webtop to work on one of the ICS based CM or AOKP ports?
Also how much control do you get in Webtop. I understand it's basically Ubuntu, but can you install new packages or build your own from source. Is there hardware access to the GPU?
If your on an ICS leak webtop is 3.0, which means it is just tablet ui and is no longer a "separate" system.

Oh, that's a bit useless
I was looking forward to the idea of being able to boot into Ubuntu and compile full fat apps to run there.
Still interested in using it with a modded Atrix lapdock though. So does webtop work with AOKP?
not at the moment, because CM9 and AOKP still don't have support for HDMI-out.

Hey,
take a look at this http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=829571 (i know it's in french but it's the first link i've found about). I don't know which point did they reached (testing ? alpha ? beta ?) but it's reaaaaly interesting (and that's a reason why i want to move to a D4 : my htc DZ is not powerful enough to run this).

I came to the D4 from a DZ too
That Ubuntu for Android is interesting, I was a little disappointed that webtop on ICS is just Android tablet UI rather than Ubuntu, however it is awesome that if you just use an HDMI cable the phone touchscreen changes into a touchpad!
I wonder how they are getting away with not publishing the source? As soon as a handset turns up for sale with Ubuntu on it, surely the source is going to have to come out or they will be violating the GPL, or is Ubuntu full of propriety closed source crap these days? (It's been a while since I used Linux as a desktop OS, and it was always Debian. Ubuntu didn't exist then)
On a related note, has anyone found a micro-HDMI cable that is actually capable of running at 1080p without corruption and sparklies. I have tried two and both were rubbish.
I got the motorola one from amazon, and it works flawlessly. I also got one from dealsextreme.com, which was considerably cheaper and free shipping, but they're services can be a bit shoddy at time, but I haven't had any big issues with them, and the cord quality is fine, no issues that I can see on my 1080p tv.

I tried a Motorola one... it was better in that you could actually see the 1080p display, but still flashed and corrupted.
I know my monitor is more sensitive than most to poor quality HDMI devices (most notably the PS3), so I guess I'll just have to look for a fancy one, or a tiny adaptor to use with an existing good cable.
For those interested: I found a way to install Ubuntu on my ICS Droid 4. It comes with Firefox and LibreOffice, some options like installing new apps seem a bit limited (maybe not in the donate version?), but I didn't go into too much detail.
While it's probably not as integrated as the original WebTop was, it might be more flexible in terms of settings/applications. The way to access it is basically to start it via Terminal, then (Android) VNC to view / interact with the desktop.
The link to the free version is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zpwebsites.linuxonandroid
There's also some donation keys available, not sure what features they add. For me, tinkering around with it for 5 minutes is probably all I need it for, and the image is 3.5 GB so I'll probably remove it soon. Still, awesome that it works!
