[ROM] The Ultimate Droid 3.2.5 Discussion - Droid Incredible Android Development

Just felt I should share this with everyone since I don't think a lot of people know about it yet.I know I never heard of it until the other day.
Trying to.get.an idea of what others think.
I guess there has been some controversy between Blackdroid (UltimateDroid) and the CyanogenMod team over the likeness of Ultimate Droid to CyanogenMod 7. They are almost identical, however, Ultimate Droid offers far more customization and every bit as snappy. As most of you know, the CM7 Final was released nearly 24 hours ago. I obviously downloaded and flashed it immediately to check it out. Honestly, there just wasn't anything special enough to keep it, I immediately restored my UD backup.
I certainly don't want to get in the middle of any beef between developers, after all these are both phenomenal ROMs.I just know I am always looking to try new ROMs and other methods of tweakness and hope others would speak up...
Obviously, I take no credit for anything here, just sharing info...

Seems like if you read the forums enough life goes in circles, doesn't it?
Tapatalk Pro Sig. Yep, boring.

Just more customizable. It allows you to easily change things like themes, boot animations/sound, and system font (which might be my favorite feature). That, or the ability to add a custom message (or name/nickname) to the lockscreen.
some will prefer CM still and certainly nothing wrong with that.

Tried his work on my d1. Nothing really special. Stopped using his stuff after that whole thing happened.

People are still talking about things that went down a year ago? Wow.

UD Rom is the best hands down.
Edit: I could care less about the year old beef...bunch of whining babies. I'd steal your lunch on the playground if I could.

UD is much more stable then CM. Faster, smoother and far superior battery life. Who cares about the stale drama between the 2 open source deVs. Its all about the final product and UD takes the cake.

Just out of curiosity, are all the additions aesthetic, or are there any performance enhancements over CM7? Like the power control widgets or the lockscreen gestures and things like that.

Wow.... I think this is a record for the longest running UD thread.
For the record, I can't stand aosp roms but would choose UD over cm any day. Especially with cm7. I think cm7 took a step back with removing their custom options and adding the theme app. The only "gimik" they have on cm7 is that its Ginger Bread. Other then that, nothing stands out. The last "good" cm release was cm6 rc3, hands down. And UD is pretty consistent with their releases.

Found my problem. It was that the webpage was set to mobile instead of full size. Once I clicked on the bottom I was able to download.

What is your favorite Eris ROM?

I am sorry if this is in the incorrect place or if this has already been asked, but I could not find it in the search. What is your favorite Eris ROM and why?
I am currently using Sense-able 3.1 and like it except for it missing LWP and Overclock.
thank you for your time and I look forward to the responses. Love this forum and I am happy to be able to finally post something.
I personally really like Tainted Vanilla 1.3.1. Though it has some bugs to work out, I find it to be an excellent rom. But seeing as I am new to the Droid Eris Rom scene I haven't really tried out many except Evil Eris, VanillaDroid and Tainted Vanilla.
I'm using sense-able 3.1 with oc loving it actually. Supposed to be updated soon for a2sd also.

i use Tainted Vanilla 1.3.1 because for the most part it is the fastest one i have used. its plain in a way but its nice because it doesnt have all the other crap that slows stuff down.
EE i didnt give a good chance with but hear good things...
i used sensable3 for some time and i love the way it looks but even overclocked it was slow as sin and couldnt repeat my numbers well.
lightning rom was alright but i didnt like it much.
so basically this is all off first impressions... i would sugest you try them all out and see which one hooks you in.
Did you have the new overclocking patch on senseable? Runs fast and stable on my phone, have it set at 768.

I am running 3.1 right now, and I installed it without going through an update from 3.0. Do I need to flash a patch or do I need to get an app from the market? Sorry for not knowing what I am talking about...
In the development section zanfur has a post titled overclocking patch and update, its a update that can be applied to the Rom following his directions. I actually got mine over 800 before it locked and rebooted just make sure and follow the directions in the post. I'm currently getting 3.2 to 3.5 mflops consistently with it.

Their is a variety of rom choices because each person's taste is different. This is my take after running them.
EE- Very fast and is made by an awesome dev. He worked very hard to make sure that it runs well and for the most part it has run well. OC enabled
Aloysius- Simple Stable and works very well. It has sense and is OC'ed. It is what I use and so far have stuck with it, then again it is my rom
Tainted Vannilla- I tried this last night and it is very fast, but also very plain. Not my taste as I am a fan of HTC sense.
Sensable- Awesome and almost bug free from my experience with it and would recommend it to almost anyone.
Ivan's- Simplest and most bug free rom we have available to us. I ran it for a while, and also used it as a base for my rom until the newest leak arrived. Simply stated it is a great almost stock rom.
This is just from my experience, but my experience also tells me to try them all and see which one hits you the best.

yeah i had the patch... the rom it self was pretty good and i got 2.9 mflops at points but it wasnt consistant... i want to try it again though...
lightning bolt with jit and oc at 768 i am getting 5.1 fairly consistant but it plain and i am having a problem going back to my home screens.
but internet and other functions on the phone blows sensable out of the water.
I am using my own lil creation
Aloysius v6 Maps + latest OC kernel (OC'd @ 806) + removed time from toolbar + circle battery = 3.2-3.3MFLOPS
I have tried every ROM that has come out and Aloysius series seems to be the best. I am staying with v6 since it does everything I need it to and my update files wont work on any other version without giving me problems. I may switch this weekend to something else, just dont know what yet.
until today, i was on evil eris 2.0.1 - very good rom!

Was using EE 2.0.1 getting 3.1~ MFLOPS oc'd to 768, but I gave up sense for JIT and im now using tainted vanilla getting 5.2~ MFLOPS oc'd to the same.
Really like the improvement + live Nexus wallpaper that doesn't break.
Switched to Aloysius v11 MAPS. Added the latest oc kernal so I can get to 806 and love it more than v6. Spencer did a great job of porting this ROM. I give all devs credit for making us ROMs but this one seems to be my fav.

I agree! I was running Ivan's until a couple of days ago. Glad I made the switch. EE is much faster.
I've been running Framework43's Senseless 1.0 Pure Vanilla since last night and it's fantastic! I put the JIT update on there and have no problems and getting 3.2-3.5 MFLOPS consistantly and it's not even OCed (yet). Also, in the ROM's thread, there is a link on how to get A2SD to work and it works perfectly. Very fast and stable. It's the initial release and practically bugless already.

Curious about my new project? [UPDATED May 29]

UPDATE ON MAY 29, 2012: I'm sorry guys.
I won't be releasing my project. I'm actually stopping the effort to port the rom. I can't do it, it just is way too complicated to complete.
This means, until I decide to work on something new or find something worth porting, I am not developing for the D3 or Droid Bionic anymore.
I won't be picking up Motoblur + Android 4.0.4 either, so eliminate that question as well.
I hope you guys won't get mad.

I'm all for options, but Sense just isn't my cup of tea. Not to mention it would be Gingerbread based (I don't believe any HTC device currently has ICS), and many people (myself included) would see it as a step back.

What exactly has you hung up, as far as ICS is concerned (just a question)? Everything works, with the exception of face unlock, and some spotty bluetooth issues. Granted, I'm not overly familiar with the GSM builds and their respective bugs, but most people really seem to be enjoying the 4.0 builds...

The HTC One X has it Actually, I think all of the new HTC One series phones have it.
it's will be great if it contains a RTL & BIDI languages as well.....
I'm definitely interested. I prefer having full functionality for my phone, so the ICS ROMs are out for me for now, and I prefer the GB ROMs to be unthemed. It seems that all of the themed ROMs have something that I think looks mediocre (bad fonts that make it difficult to tell normal from bold, or that flow badly; on screen button elements that do not work right; mediocre battery indicators on the status bar; unattractive notification pull-downs; etc.)

Here's an update:
This rom is a pain in the ass. It really is. So the chances of me completing this, with school and other things have gone down to about 20% from 70%.
But here are some details:
Gingerbread 2.3.6
Later Software from another device (I'm not naming it)
No GSM compatibility
Sorry GSM users, there isn't a way GSM will work on the rom until the device I'm porting this from is updated later this year.

Well from all the roms I've flashed the fastest ones I've dealt with is the DX OS and CM 7.2 release that just came out. I prefer DX OS but for me MMS was a big problem. I couldn't receive any through the DX messenger and had to use the default messenger to receive them. Besides that I loved it. CM 7.2 just seems a lot more stable and less of a headache if you want something simple and easy to use. Haven't had any problems so far with the OS. But at the same time I've tweaked it a lot more then any other ROM so far.
cm7.2 by far.
if your looking ics wise, i'm not trying to toot my own horn here but the aokp port i added is quite snappy, fun to mess around with. if you try it, see if youtube works! i havnt had anyone verify for me, i know it works for me though.
sense wise, definitely zero hero from matt and dastin

Stock ICS leak vs CM9 vs AOKP

Just wanting to know what you all think. Not too much discussion going on here about them. I've used them all, good experiences. Pro, cons, whatever. I personally like the stock .230 leak. I find the smart actions very nice. Also like the app drawer with the different groups.

Personally, I like the 230 update... plan on updating to 232 soon, but holding off because every time I flash, another one comes out.
I'm not one for flashing nightly roms, but I've been itching to try CM9
Yeah I am a little hesitant about flashing .232. But I think it's good news that these leaks keep showing up.
I used the CM9 from the .2233 leak and wasn't overly impressed. I feel AOKP has more options. But these Moto leaks are just so nice in my taste.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I prefer AOKP but there are still some issues with it such as static in the Bluetooth. I have 2 phones on me all day at work and the use of a headset is a must. I am on stock .232 with Apex, init.d, and pull down toggles. I have pulled all the bloat and system crap that I don't ever use. There isn't really much at all running in the background. I have pulled some init.d scripts from different roms to speed things up more but not sure which one I'm going to use yet. As soon as AOKP has the BT issue fixed I will be flashing it though.

I stayed on the .232 leak for a couple days, enjoyed the new "Blur" but there were just a couple thing i didn't like. The launcher was alright a little prehistoric compared to today's standards with Apex and especially Nova being so fast and smart. Not being able to change the Lockscreen shortcuts aggravated me but overall the Lockscreen with its separate Camera, Phone, Messaging, Sound settings, and Lock is nice.
But after I flashed CM9 i wont look back. You can customize everything, there is shortcuts to everything, its very responsive, and Cyanogenmod Team really made there stock applications wonderful. You can tell they took there time in making everything run smoothly and look great as well.
So i would go with CM9 especially Axiobeam.06_TARGA. Thats what i flashed and i love it. It includes alot of extras worth having.
I'm currently on 232 and love it. Tried AOKP and CM9, and while they are both solid, they both lack one CRUCIAL feature- Webtop.
Since I am addicted to my Lapdock, I'm staying with Stock ICS until a good rom comes along with a working Webtop.
Not a big deal though since stock ICS is pretty damned-near perfect.
The CM9 u tried, was it the unofficial one ported by dhacker29?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda app-developers app
While I do love the features of CM9, there are small things that I really like about the Bionic ICS, like the text app. I like the black background versus the white of CM9/AOKP. I haven't toyed around with Apex enough to know its potential, but I have no complaints about the stock launcher.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I've flashed 2231, 2233, and now 232, and all of them have had constantly high CPU and RAM usage, making my phone painfully slow to use. However, on the AOKP ICS-leak builds I had no such slowdowns (despite other bugs), with almost all of the same apps installed.
Has anyone else experienced poor performance with the stock leaks?
Occasionally I notice the slow downs, but have definitely noticed the high cpu usage, even after switching governors.

You really only need to ask the question once in a given forum. But honestly I haven't noticed in on either the ICS leaks I've used.
EDIT:
Actually I just noticed it but I think it is as designed. If my phone is locked, not just screen timed out, and I have an unlock pattern (probably pin too) the status bar does not open. If the screen is timed out the status bar can be pulled open.
Not sure, and don't see why it would be a deal breaker. Currently using AOKP with no problems at all.

Only thing that's turning me away from cm9, AOKP or even liquid is the crt animation is down towards the bottom of the screen and when I scroll from screen to screen is glitchy unlike the ics leak

Why should I get CM10.1.1 instead of Stock ROM?

Hello, this is just a question, I'm not bashing/hating here. I see many people running CM10.1, and the main article in the news on Android portals across the internet is the new update - CM10.1.1
I have a ROM based on CM10.1 on my Nexus S and honestly I see no much difference in comparison with the stock one I got on my N7. So, what is in your opinion, the best reason to get CM10.1.1?

The lack of options compared to AOKP keeps me away. Tablet mode and Nav/status bar transparencies are essential on the N7.
CM is more of a stockish feel with the latest security fixes and a few limited additional options and theme support.

I agree with the above. CM just does not offer enough options compared to aokp to sway me over. At the same time, high memory and high graphic games always work better for me on stock. Ergo, im a multirom junkie. Best of all worlds with a simple reboot.

Exactly. It's enhanced stock Android, but more importantly it's enhanced stock Android with the support, wide compatibility, and "whole-ness" of stock. I've convinced many a friend running TouchWiz, Sense, and even stock Android to switch to CM or a CM-based ROM.

Being that it's a smaller tablet, I don't agree that tablet mode is totally necessary. Is it nice to have? Definitely. I also wouldn't call transparencies "essential" in any sense.

The lack of either isn't a device killer, but those are 2 really nice features that I require. After running both, you wonder why they aren't stock in the first place. And I'd say that BECAUSE of the smaller tablet (7") it is EVEN MORE important to save desktop space.
Of course you could also use Extended Desktop w/ PIE controls, but the only PIE I like is Blackberry Cobbler.
Then there are people like me, I dont care CM or AOKP & what not...
Just need: speed + 110% smoothness without a stutter on all non gaming tasks + amazing batt life + USB Audio DAC support...
Also, still waiting for bit-perfect and hardware direct mode for USB Audio / DAC from kernel and music playback app developers... which probably will never come. Something like ASIO/WASAPI? Ring a bell? Guess not...
Audiophile 'minority'...meh.
Yep, people like me.

In all fairness (and much to my surprise), the Nexus 7 is the most challenging device to find organized, consolidated and relevant info for. Those of us whom count this as our first Nexus device have always been preached upon the virtue of stock/AOSP/CM vs (insert OEM UI) as though the three are synonymous, with CM being the vehicle that brings stock to, again, (insert OEM UI) devices. Even the Sprint-variant galaxy sII threads contain more up-to-date FAQ/tutorial stickies.
Maybe do a better job of consolidating "out there" before being "that" guy who has nothing to contribute beyond a condescending one-liner?
To the OP, the official CM website does an ok job at explaining their 'official' releases, but not a whole lot about how the experience differs from 'official' Vanilla/Nexus/Play Edition releases.
Also, Linaro --who works with literally every company not named Nvidia on source development-- seems to be a BFD to tegra3...

Then OP can try the rom out and see for themselves. Spoonfeeding will benefit nobody.

I always thought a forum was place where people could come and get help, or opinions from fellow members.
If the OP is asking for your opinion, then it's a possibility he/she values what you have to say, rather than blogs that have been written by others.

OP, it's a totally legit question, glad you asked. Because you asked, I read this thread and learned something. Perhaps the question has been asked too many times, but whatevs....no electrons or photons were harmed in the making of this thread. Frankly, you're either part of the solution or part of the problem, my vote says this thread is mostly part of the solution. I'm just in the process of deciding what I will do on my N7 after I unlock the bootloader and root it, now I have to search/understand the process of dual booting so I can try AOKP while enjoying stock, which I very much do (glad I waited for a 32). It also reinforced my desire to put CM back on my GSII.

Spoonfeeding huh? As somebody said already, this forum is a place to go ask questions and to help get a better understanding of what your tablet/phone is capable of.
To my knowledge there is nothing wrong w/ that as I have been doing this since '06 and continue to learn something new every time I read these forums. Cm 10.1 is a great rom w stock options, with the flexibility of giving you some customization. Surely give it a whirl
PS my mom spoon-fed me as a baby and I think I turned out pretty well
