Hey there,
Since Android isnt compatible with Adhoc, I was searching for a way to Make it work.
My NExus one, was up and running with Adhoc! (And Flying my Ardrone!) So..
I found a way to make it work!
Follow the following instructions and Enjoy!!
The way I installed is :
- RootExplorer (requires rooted device)
- Go to /system/bin/
- Tap R/W at the top so it becomes R/O
- rename existing wpa_supplicant in /system/bin/ to wpa_supplicant.old
- paste new wpa_supplicant
- start and restart wifi
If you prefer to use adb, this command should do it :
adb push wpa_supplicant /system/bin/
Download the 'wpa_supplicant' file from this Threat!

Adhoc means connect to your computer in peer to peer mode. Use your computer / laptop as the bridge to access internet.
Thank u!

keep on disconnect, not working
Ad Hoc sucks, if you just want to surf use a VIRTUAL ROUTER
SOLUTION:
___________________________________________________________________
Try freeware software Virtual Router,
or if you want to do it old school via command prompt in Win 7 try see this link:

Hello ,,
I am having LG optimus 2x mobile, i want to connect my mobile to ad-hoc n/w of my pc.
I have replace that " wpa_supplicant " file. but nw my wifi nt able to start.it giving error. and can u tell me solution for this.
and other 1 what is that push adb and how to do that....???
plz help me
Thanks

Wow! It would be AWESOME if someone would try this out on the LG Optimus One P500.
this error is because of the permissions... check the permissions of wpa_supplicant. it's a program, beside permission to read and write, its necessary permission to execute... use 777, that is, rwx-rwx-rwx

Hi everybody!
so i have a rooted device running xwjv3 -latest official 2.3.3- and i really need to share my laptop internet with my sgs, cuz thats the only way to get internet on the phone.
so how do i get ad-hoc enabled in 2.3.3?
OR is there any sharing ways but ad-hoc so the phone can detect the access point?
by the way, computer's running windows 7
Ps. i already checked the wpa file and stuff, dont seem to be working on gingerbread.
Does this thread help ?
yea, thanks, it actually was my answer- kinda late though, but that's what i was looking for thanks
Glad it worked for you, I had to revert to wpa_supplicant v0.5.11 from the original thread to get it working..
man i have the same problem ,
if u find the solution plz help me
No need to modify wpa_supplicant binary
I changed data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf instead of wpa_supplicant. I added ap_scan=2, then set the adhoc network to
priority=1
mode=1
then pushed back the modified file. chown ownership back to system.wifi.
I had root access through adb. So root wasn't necessary for me.
Advantage: Safer than modifying system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant binary. Saves you the trouble of compiling modified wpa_supplicant or finding a compiled one for your platform.
Drawback: This is just a temporary solution. You'll have to repeat this process for every new adhoc network as it doesn't enable adhoc forever. It is good for connecting to your home network or other know networks, but if you want to connect to any adhoc network you scan, then this is not your method. Because, wpa_supplicant.conf will be overwritten every time you scan a new network.
Here is an easier alternative to the android to pc adhoc connections without doing anything on the device, only with a PC application ...

Access Point vs Adhoc
Thanks for the suggestion jota. But, the program suggested by you works in a different way. It creates an Access Point mode Hotspot( a virtual router ) to which Android can directly connect. An application called Connectify can create Access Point mode Hotspot for Windows 7 and above.
What we're discussing here is about another type of Hotspot- adhoc mode. AP mode hotspots are better and newer Hotspot standard, but Windows versions prior to Windows 7 and Nokia Symbian phones with wifi(using softwares like Joikuspot) cant create AP mode hotspots. It's possible to create AP in linux, but not easy for beginers as there's no simple program like Connectify available to do this. You'll have to do some command line works. For those who're stuck wid adhoc networks, this thread is a possible solution.
hello, I would like to know how you can O2x cones to our ad-hoc networks (created with Windows 7) of this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1243696?
I forgot where did I get this, somewhere in this forum.. But here goes..Unzip the attached file, copy n paste it to /system/bin
Oh yeah, backup the original wpa suplicant by renaming it to something else 1st perhaps? And U need root access to do this.

Can someone who has upgraded their 4G to HC please tell me if it will support Ad-hoc WiFi connections?

I had to root it and with Root Explorer change out the wpa-supplicant file... if you are asking about Ad-Hoc I am taking for granted you have heard about this fix for the Streaks... If not just do a little searching for the file...
Once you have it, you go to /system/bin and find the original and rename it to *.bak or *.old, doesn't matter, just something so you don't lose it in case.
You should have your new wpa_supplicant file on your sd card... move it to that same folder, toggle your wifi off and on a couple of times and reboot... and when you come back you should be able to see ad hoc networks

You are unable to connect to your Ad Hoc network?
Little more info please... does your Streak see the network? If it sees the network and is not connecting, then it's more than likely a problem with your computer and not the phone...
I always set mine up with a simple name like Toshiba which is my laptop brand and I just leave it as an open network because I only use it for a moment so I don't have to put in a password... but still, gimme some more info on what your phone is doing while it tries to connect

Ah ok... so lemme be sure you did this right... you went into /system/bin and found your wpa-supplicant file and renamed it say wpa-supplicant.bak just in case (at least I hope you did) Ok, now you should already have the new file you downloaded on your sd card correct. SO you browse to that file and copy it to the same folder /system/bin and paste it in there...
Then go to your wifi and toggle on and off a couple of times, reboot the phone for good measure and when you come back it should work, if NOT, then rename the new file to wpa-suplicant.new I guess, and the original file, remove the .bak or whatever extension you used and restart your Streak to see if you get connectivity back, if so, then there's something wrong with the file you downloaded

What your file name for original and new?
hmmm, I can't remember where I got it but I'm sure it's the same file, you need to make sure you change the file permissions I guess is the only thing I forgot to mention

You never guess how dumb I am, I forgot to unzip the file. OMG
aw man really, so you were putting the whole zip file in the /system/bin?
Well I hope you get it goin!! See it's usually the little things like that that wreak havoc.
YES, it works! I think you helped me realize to unzip the file. Thanks so much!
Ok, I just upgraded to HC on my Streak 7 Wifi. I went and changed the supplicant file like I did on 2.2.2. My Streak connects, but when I connect to the internet I loose connection. Are there any other workarounds for connecting to adhoc wifi?

Not that I know of, but I haven't heard of your problem either, with the file changed out my wifi works just fine
Dell Streak 7 WiFi Rooted - Honeycomb - I also changed my WPA Supplicant and WiFi did not work right either. I had to go back to the original file.
Hi there everyone
I've got this spice mi 410 (INDIA). I am trying to use usb tethering on windows xp and on pclinuxos 2010. I connect the phone to the pc and then turn on usb tethering but no new driver installation pops up in windows so i cant select the tetherxp.inf as stated on (support.google.com/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=182134.). And on linux the knetworkmanager doesnt detect any modem.
However i can tether using easy-tether. But would really like to use the built in usb tethering feature. I have also noticed that in device manager in windows there are listed three unknown devices Android HSUSB but i dont have the drivers. Can someone provide these drivers to me.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi kshitij_bhatt
Thanks for sending those files. The drivers were successfully installed but still usb tethering not working. Then I installed maclite v 1.3s and i could access that extra cd drive. And when i ticked usb tethering, it was working flawlessly out of the box with maclite rom, then i again switched back to MIUI 1.11.11 and find that it is not working. However tj_style mentioned that it is working. So what could be at issue over here.
Thanks for sending the files. You've been of great help

Thank you so much.

Hi all,
I am trying to get ace s5830i connected to a wifi ad hoc network. I tired downloading many modified version of wpa_supplicant binaries from xda.
None of them seem to be working on this device .
At terminal emulator (before replacing the binary), if I do
$wpa_supplicant -version
0.6.x..
I am on stock rom, with root enabled. Can someone please post wpa_supplicant binary?(patched binary which is able to connect Adhoc)?
Here is it, but it's buggy you have to disable and renable to connect.
Just rename your original wpa_supplicant copy this one and do the permissions like the original one.
