Hey there,
Since Android isnt compatible with Adhoc, I was searching for a way to Make it work.
My NExus one, was up and running with Adhoc! (And Flying my Ardrone!) So..
I found a way to make it work!
Follow the following instructions and Enjoy!!
The way I installed is :
- RootExplorer (requires rooted device)
- Go to /system/bin/
- Tap R/W at the top so it becomes R/O
- rename existing wpa_supplicant in /system/bin/ to wpa_supplicant.old
- paste new wpa_supplicant
- start and restart wifi
If you prefer to use adb, this command should do it :
adb push wpa_supplicant /system/bin/
Download the 'wpa_supplicant' file from this Threat!

Adhoc means connect to your computer in peer to peer mode. Use your computer / laptop as the bridge to access internet.
Thank u!

keep on disconnect, not working
Ad Hoc sucks, if you just want to surf use a VIRTUAL ROUTER
SOLUTION:
___________________________________________________________________
Try freeware software Virtual Router,
or if you want to do it old school via command prompt in Win 7 try see this link:

Hello ,,
I am having LG optimus 2x mobile, i want to connect my mobile to ad-hoc n/w of my pc.
I have replace that " wpa_supplicant " file. but nw my wifi nt able to start.it giving error. and can u tell me solution for this.
and other 1 what is that push adb and how to do that....???
plz help me
Thanks
parag
Wow! It would be AWESOME if someone would try this out on the LG Optimus One P500.
this error is because of the permissions... check the permissions of wpa_supplicant. it's a program, beside permission to read and write, its necessary permission to execute... use 777, that is, rwx-rwx-rwx

Can someone edit wpa_supplicant for ParanoidAndroid v2.6 ?
many thanks
sorry for my english.
Hi, I think that the wifi disconnect problem of GingerDX is that the file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-wlan0.lease has no "User" permission..
Someone having that problem can confirm it? just have to install a file explorer (I thinks it has to be Root Explorer), go to that file and set User permissions for Read, Write and Execute..
wifi probs is fixed! u just have to forget the network and and connect it again newly!
I tried that so many times with no luck, but when I did that the problems seems to be gone.. So I want to confirm that.. I have seen that other user have that problem too, but I can't post in development forum yet.. u.u

i looked for the file but the dhcp folder is empty. maybe thats why my wifi is not working.
My wifi also sometimes disconnects but it quickly re-connects and everything is ok. Wifi on stock 2.1 was much worse. When it disconnected i even had to restart my home router. I think it is problem with my home wifi device. Maybe yours is broken, either?
get the wifi files from freexperia project.
that file is supposed to be created automatically when you are connected to a wifi network, I deleted it and was auto-created again..
Cant connect to wifi getting stuck @obtaining ip address then x8 reboots
Can someone who has upgraded their 4G to HC please tell me if it will support Ad-hoc WiFi connections?

I had to root it and with Root Explorer change out the wpa-supplicant file... if you are asking about Ad-Hoc I am taking for granted you have heard about this fix for the Streaks... If not just do a little searching for the file...
Once you have it, you go to /system/bin and find the original and rename it to *.bak or *.old, doesn't matter, just something so you don't lose it in case.
You should have your new wpa_supplicant file on your sd card... move it to that same folder, toggle your wifi off and on a couple of times and reboot... and when you come back you should be able to see ad hoc networks

You are unable to connect to your Ad Hoc network?
Little more info please... does your Streak see the network? If it sees the network and is not connecting, then it's more than likely a problem with your computer and not the phone...
I always set mine up with a simple name like Toshiba which is my laptop brand and I just leave it as an open network because I only use it for a moment so I don't have to put in a password... but still, gimme some more info on what your phone is doing while it tries to connect

Ah ok... so lemme be sure you did this right... you went into /system/bin and found your wpa-supplicant file and renamed it say wpa-supplicant.bak just in case (at least I hope you did) Ok, now you should already have the new file you downloaded on your sd card correct. SO you browse to that file and copy it to the same folder /system/bin and paste it in there...
Then go to your wifi and toggle on and off a couple of times, reboot the phone for good measure and when you come back it should work, if NOT, then rename the new file to wpa-suplicant.new I guess, and the original file, remove the .bak or whatever extension you used and restart your Streak to see if you get connectivity back, if so, then there's something wrong with the file you downloaded

What your file name for original and new?
hmmm, I can't remember where I got it but I'm sure it's the same file, you need to make sure you change the file permissions I guess is the only thing I forgot to mention

You never guess how dumb I am, I forgot to unzip the file. OMG
aw man really, so you were putting the whole zip file in the /system/bin?
Well I hope you get it goin!! See it's usually the little things like that that wreak havoc.
YES, it works! I think you helped me realize to unzip the file. Thanks so much!
Ok, I just upgraded to HC on my Streak 7 Wifi. I went and changed the supplicant file like I did on 2.2.2. My Streak connects, but when I connect to the internet I loose connection. Are there any other workarounds for connecting to adhoc wifi?

Not that I know of, but I haven't heard of your problem either, with the file changed out my wifi works just fine
Dell Streak 7 WiFi Rooted - Honeycomb - I also changed my WPA Supplicant and WiFi did not work right either. I had to go back to the original file.
Hi all,
I am trying to get ace s5830i connected to a wifi ad hoc network. I tired downloading many modified version of wpa_supplicant binaries from xda.
None of them seem to be working on this device .
At terminal emulator (before replacing the binary), if I do
$wpa_supplicant -version
0.6.x..
I am on stock rom, with root enabled. Can someone please post wpa_supplicant binary?(patched binary which is able to connect Adhoc)?
Here is it, but it's buggy you have to disable and renable to connect.
Just rename your original wpa_supplicant copy this one and do the permissions like the original one.

I will replace it with this version whenever I need adhoc access.. little painful but I'm ok with this..
Thanks!!
Hey,
So after updating the Xperia TX to JB, i have noticed that there is an issue with wifi connexions, meaning that the phone will no longer connect to some access points of software access points (connectify, virtual router, etc...). After entering WPA key, it just says connecting then goes back to previous state.
I fiddled a bit with this and finally compared wlan .ini files from ICS and JB.
If you are having the same problem, a small modification to the .ini file might solve the problem...well in my case it did.
Please note that you need root access to modify this file.
1) Mount system folder as writable using your file manager or root explorer
2) Navigate to /system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima
3) Make a backup of WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini
4) Open WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini and look for g11dSupportEnabled=1
5) Modify it to g11dSupportEnabled=0 and save the file
6) Power off your wifi and Power on again
7) Forget the SSID you've had issues to connect to and try to connect again
and you should be good to go.
To understand the g11dSupport property please refer to here - from wikipedia
if the above did not work, there is another property which has changed:
gEnableFWRssiMonitoring=1 in JB was gEnableFWRssiMonitoring=0 in ICS
You may wanna try that.
works on tx build .67
before i changed this damn 1 to 0 i couldn't connect to my wireless modem !
but now its ok.
tnx:good:
great it worked!! pressed thanks..
i tried with ex file manager, it couldnt save the script.. then used root browser.. did the trick..
if i unroot, i will loose this fix?

Make sure you have root access and that system is mounted as R/W
If you have root, you can usually remount in your file manager application (File Manager or ES explorer). Check in settings

There must be something wrong with your RW access if you cannot modify the file.
Try this:
1) Copy the said file to your SD card
2) Connect your phone as Mass Storage
3) Using and Editing software like Notepad ++ open the file and make the changes and save the file
4) Go back to your File Manager and rename the existing file (the one in the root folder)
5) Copy the modified file from your SD card to the correct location
If copying or renaming the file fails, means you dont have Read/Write access to the root folder.
I am also using xperia tx and although my wifi doesnt disconnect , it really makes my phone lag a lot while I am using wifi...should I also try this method ?

If you have root access you may try it. Though i don't know if it will solve it. The wifi problems are very eratic. Most of the issues depend on the access points being used and their settings.
Try it and keep us posted.
Don't forget to make a backup of the file before modifying.

Search for and flash the reboot fix. It's a known issue
