[Q] GRI40 With New Radio and HBOOT? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a single update.zip that I can download and flash with the stock recovery that has the latest radio and hboot built in? I'm coming from stock 2.1

I believe HTC posted the full image on their site today...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App

I downloaded the zip and tried flashing using the stock recovery, says its not signed.

Ahhh, it's possible in the format for doing the passimg then. You could try that, but you will lose data and settings...
There is a full image in the ROM section of the wiki, have you tried that?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App

Yeah, tried renaming it to PASSIMG.ZIP and flashing using the stock bootloader and nothing happens. The stock GRI40 on the wiki fails because its looking for the new HBOOT.

Looks like you're down to multiple files then...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App

look at the PASSIMG.zip
Sometimes I've found the actual PASSIMG.zip is inside the passimg.zip compressed folder. Open the zip to see if you find another zip... or files.
Booting the phone by holding down the trackball should automatically load the flash and away you should go.

Inside the PASSIMG.ZIP are boot.img system.img recovery.img and userdata.img
When booting it recognizes the PASSIMG file is there and starts checking it. Then does nothing.

It's in the right format for passimg, so it's strange that it's not working. Do you get any error messages?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App

Wish it gave me a message, it just drops back to the bootloader screen with the skateboards.

Maybe its just not possible to upgrade from EPE76 direct to GRI40?

I would try the passimg with FRG33, and then see if you can apply GRI40?

My signature has a link for the 0.35 HBOOT.
I haven't seen a link to the 5.08 radio by itself (in a Google-signed, flashable zip), but it is included in the update links to GRI40.
The file that danger-rat is referring to on HTC's website is NOT a full shipped ROM. In order to be able to use that file, you need to already be on HBOOT 0.35 AND radio 5.08.

Try flashing the HBOOT from my sig, then flash this:
http://android.clients.google.com/p...b119f8.signed-passion-ota-102588.656099b1.zip which includes the 5.08 radio.
It should take to to fully-stock Gingerbread!

Is it possible to take the GRI40 image from developer.htc.com and insert the 5.08 radio.img and hboot.img. Rename the whole thing to PASSIMG.ZIP and flash that?

NO...
But what seems to be the problem? Flash the HBOOT, then flash the Gingerbread update and you are set.

I have had a few people ask me for this, so I extracted an RUU and packaged it.
Make sure you check the MD5 before flashing.
http://adrynalyne.us/?p=41
Thanks adrynalyne, this will come in handy for any people needing to take their phone back to Verizon for various reasons.
Does this help us s-off users?
Depends on what your definition of help is. Only s-off users can use it.
I'm sorry, but I have to ask what the MD5 is and how it's significant. I know that when I flashed FrankenROM this past weekend I noticed that in Clockwork, it displayed that it was doing something with the MD5, but prior to that, I'd not seen it mentioned. I also see that on your website, Adrynalyne, you have the MD5s listed with each of your custom ROMs. Honestly, the numbers and letters appear quite random. What would one be checking for? Thank you.
When you download something, your MD5 hash should match.
If it doesn't, then you have a corrupt or tampered download.
If it does, then you have downloaded the product correctly.
Oh! Very cool! Thank you much.

How do I check if the MD5 matches?
Also would I put the .zip on the root of my microSD and reboot into Clockwork? Or would I unzip and do it through unrevoked 3?
Thanks for this. Might come in handy

The person packaging the file will give you the MD5 hash usually near the download link. You can use a free program called md5checker to verify the hash.
For example the hash for this file is:
MD5: CBE810D1313909B3BF112C7F4A186769
As far as flashing just put on the root of your SD card formatted fat 32 and flash from hboot it will find the file and ask if you want to up date, volume up for yes and after it finishes volume up to reboot.

I want downgrade my phone to 2.1 stock. I have radio 2.05, running skyraider 2.5 and loving it. But I want to make sure I can downgrade just in case I need to bring my phone in to Verizon. Anyways, I downloaded the zip file to downgrade, but when I try doing it from the hboot it reads the zip file but then it says "main version is older" and does not let me downgrade. Can someone help?

Stock nexus correct setup.

I just bought another nexus one after my first one went swimming. And I have no idea what was done to it before. There are a few things that don't make sense.
1. I can not go into recovery mode.
2. it says I am on RA 1.7 but can't upgrade on change to clockwork.
3. Nothing works to root. It either freezes or says error.
What is going on. And how do I fix this problem. P.s. I don't have access to a PC most of the time.

Easiest thing is going to be to install the FRG83 system image from http://developer.htc.com
Download it, rename to passimg.zip and put it on the root of your SD card. Power phone off, hold Vol- and power on, it will detect the file and ask if you want to install.
THIS WILL WIPE THE PHONE
Thanks for the help. It did not wipe my phone and i am still having the problems. I am on FRG83D which is what I was on last time. Any other digestions or should I call it quits before it gets worse.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
If it didn't wipe the phone then it did go right, as proven by not being on FRG83.
Try using FRG33
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Both images did not work. It checks them and the loading bar on the top right side goes fine then it says checking PASSIMG.zip then goes back to the same screen and never asks to install. Would it have anything to do with not loading any recovery? Or would a rooted image be better to install? To give you an exact picture of where my phone is at this is how it is.
Build: FRG33
Basrband: 32.3600.28u_4.06.0012_7
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-27240-gbca5320
version: 2.2.1
Hboot: 0.35.0017
Radio: 4.06.00.12_7
THANKS for looking into this for me. I know enough to do anything but when curveballls are thrown at me I have know idea. And realize that there is still alot more I need to know to be caught up to you guys and most of the xda community. So thanks again.

Neither of these methods are working, HERCIMG.ZIP just keep saying No Image! and the second method has no option to restore a nandroid backup that I can see, clockwork only shows backups that it performed itself and wont show the new folder I dropped in there.

The FRG83 link that goes to google is down and has been for a while. The one that goes to HTC is a full image and does not work with HBOOT 00.35.0017 for whatever reason (after verifying image, it simply goes back to normal hboot screen with no prompt or failure message).
My ultimate goal is to replace the emailgoogle.apk with a modified one. To do that, I need root. So my new goal is to root my phone without unlocking the boot loader. You can't root Gingerbread (actually it's all about HBOOT 00.35.0017) with a locked boot loader at the moment, so my newer goal is to downgrade HBOOT. There currently does not seem to be a viable way to do that.
There was this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726258#7197502
But it both requires root (which I don't have yet) and the links are dead.
There also seems to be no published way to re-lock a boot loader, though I know it has been done.
As silly as it sounds, my reason for not wanting to unlock is the padlock image. I bought a busted phone on ebay and fixed it, so I don't have warranty.
The FRG83 file is a zip within a zip, which is why it isn't working...
The hboot version doesn't make a difference when trying to root. If you are currently on FRG33, you can root using this method:

That did the trick. I PASSIMG.zip'ed back to FRG33 and followed your guide to the letter. I was a little worried since the chmod commands failed, but I ran the rage script anyway and then started over. The second time the chmod commands worked and everything went perfectly. Installed Rom Manager, flashed clockwork, then replaced it with Amon Ra.
Got rooted gingerbread and stuck in my modded emailgoogle.apk for good measure.
EDIT:
For anyone searching for this, I specifically use the 656099b119f8.signed-passion-ota-102588.656099b1.zip update to go from FRG33 to GRI40 gingerbread 2.3.3 and without rebooting applied another update.zip that re-installed superuser. Specifically look for this guide: h t t p://forum.xda-developers. c o m/showthread.php?t=931865 and mostly disregard it except for downloading the su-***-signed.zip and then looking at is post: h t t p://forum.xda-developers. c o m/showpost.php?p=11626567&postcount=70
Of course, you have to have a custom recovery to flash both the gingerbread update and the super user update! And don't forget to mount /system before doing the super user update!

make sure phone is at least 50% battery (or 100% just to be sure).
Be sure rdlite and fxz (stock firmaware) reside both within your hard drive (i used to pull those both from an external HDD) if by any chance the flash process is interrupted in the middle of a specific action, you might be exposed to brick your phone.

Did you make sure to unzip the xml file? Also, which firmware are you trying to flash? The xml is from the last update (77.12.22 on AT&T). If you are trying to flash an older firmware or are on Bell I can edit the correct xml file and upload after I get off work today.

Tried to flash the one in the post that was put up in your response to me. I did unzip the xml file. When I replace the xml file and try to flash in rsd lite is when I get the error. If I open the file...the whole thing is empty.

I'll reupload the xml file when I get home. You said you used the firmware in the post. When you click the link in the post it should list 3 firmwares. 1 is for Bell and the other 2 AT&T. The AT&T ones are 7.7.1Q-115 and 7.7.1Q-144. The 115 is the original firmware the phone was shipped with and 144 is the recent update. The xml file is from the update. Which one did you use?
If you are still having problems flashing send me a pm with the apks you deleted. I'll send you the ones you need and you can push them to the proper directories manually.

Hi there!
I'm having the exactly same issue. I've tried flashing both firmwares (115 and 144) and always get error in RDS. Right now every time I turn off and turn on the phone again, it goes straight to the fastboot screen. It says:
Fasboot Reason: Sticky bit factory_fastboot
Anyway I'm still able to reboot the phone with the volume up+down combo, then I have to select Normal powerup in order the phone actually starts. All works fine once it's started but it don't get back to the stock rom. Making a factory reset or wipe data from stock recovery neither seems to work. Actually It even have installed some personal apps such Google Chrome or it still have root that I earlier applied.
If I want to try flashing the 115 firmware first, which line I need to edit on the XML file to avoid RDS errors?
Any help would be great!
