[Q] How to get back to 2.2.2 - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone tell me how to go back to 2.2.2 so I can get my gingerbread update OTA? My gingerbread has some minor glitches.

Doesnt work, says its for going back from FRF91, I need something that goes back from GRI40

It works...
Use passimg method with the FRG33 image.

I had the same that issue, I struggled for 2 days but I got 2.2.2 on my phone, read this thread.
I got the FRG33 build from the XDA Wiki

I've reverted back to FRG83G 2.2.2. Using FRG33 PASSIMG method, then update method to FRG83 -> FRG83D -> FRG83G

I can't find the FRG33 to FRG83 update to save my life! The link to google is 404, anyone know where else to get it?
I'm trying to follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931865
I went from Gingerbread to FRG33 but can't find an update file to get me to FRG83.
Fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-crespo.img
transfers the image but then says remote not allowed.
My HBOOT is 0.35.0017, do I need to roll that back somehow (if so, how)?

Maybe you should use the recovery for Nexus one....

Hey Winky!
Your phone is a passion, not a crespo...
Use FRG83 from this link to go from FRG33 to FRG83 (though I'm not sure why you're doing this if you're also trying to fastboot flash a recovery?)

The FRG83 link that goes to google is down and has been for a while. The one that goes to HTC is a full image and does not work with HBOOT 00.35.0017 for whatever reason (after verifying image, it simply goes back to normal hboot screen with no prompt or failure message).
My ultimate goal is to replace the emailgoogle.apk with a modified one. To do that, I need root. So my new goal is to root my phone without unlocking the boot loader. You can't root Gingerbread (actually it's all about HBOOT 00.35.0017) with a locked boot loader at the moment, so my newer goal is to downgrade HBOOT. There currently does not seem to be a viable way to do that.
There was this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726258#7197502
But it both requires root (which I don't have yet) and the links are dead.
There also seems to be no published way to re-lock a boot loader, though I know it has been done.
As silly as it sounds, my reason for not wanting to unlock is the padlock image. I bought a busted phone on ebay and fixed it, so I don't have warranty.

The FRG83 file is a zip within a zip, which is why it isn't working...
The hboot version doesn't make a difference when trying to root. If you are currently on FRG33, you can root using this method:

That did the trick. I PASSIMG.zip'ed back to FRG33 and followed your guide to the letter. I was a little worried since the chmod commands failed, but I ran the rage script anyway and then started over. The second time the chmod commands worked and everything went perfectly. Installed Rom Manager, flashed clockwork, then replaced it with Amon Ra.
Got rooted gingerbread and stuck in my modded emailgoogle.apk for good measure.
EDIT:
For anyone searching for this, I specifically use the 656099b119f8.signed-passion-ota-102588.656099b1.zip update to go from FRG33 to GRI40 gingerbread 2.3.3 and without rebooting applied another update.zip that re-installed superuser. Specifically look for this guide: h t t p://forum.xda-developers. c o m/showthread.php?t=931865 and mostly disregard it except for downloading the su-***-signed.zip and then looking at is post: h t t p://forum.xda-developers. c o m/showpost.php?p=11626567&postcount=70
Of course, you have to have a custom recovery to flash both the gingerbread update and the super user update! And don't forget to mount /system before doing the super user update!

I flashed amon-ra's recovery and once I rebooted I got an android with a "!". The guide I used was on nexusonefourums. It said that if I got that symmbol that I was not rooted. I used modacos frf91 superboot to root. I was told it'd work. Apparently not.
O and now my wifi doesn't work at all. It just says error under settings-wireless.
Easiest way to see if you have root is to download a flashlight app from the market that requires root, and see if it works.
I always understood that the exclamation android guy was because you had stock recovery (I'm sure someone will correct me).

There is. "Root FRG33/83 without unlock" contains the thread with the explanation, and "SuperOneClick root app" is simple to use. Both in "Guides".
To the OP: Read the Wiki, for God's sake. The questions here come over and over again, and the interesting threads and questions all get lost in the maze of "how to root my phone". There's a guide for flashing recovery, read under "Recovery", and it says - "for unlocked bootloaders". That would save you the trouble of trying to root through rageagainstthecage method, because with unlocked bootloader you don't need any of that. There's also a guide, called "Flashing custom ROMs", at "Guides and Tutorials". That would cover everything you need.
N1 torch asked for super user permission and the full brightness is now working. It wouldnt work without root. So im rooted.... hate to ask it but.... now what? do amon-ra again?
Looking to add CyMod... and whats the deal on the updating my radio? do i need to? I hate being ignorant, but I gotta ask to learn.. Or I could brick my 500 dollar phone.
Pretty sure you're still on stock recovery, so yes, flash Amon Ra or Clockworkmod (if you're on an SLCD screen, only Amon 1.8 or 1.9 will work).
The wiki has instructions, or use Clockworkmod ROM Manager (but read the wiki either way).

Good heads up danger-rat. Downloads most recent radio and updated. I used rom manager and flashed most recent clockwork recovery. Now my next problem is getting cyanogenmod to download through Tom manager. It got 95% complete and said "rom download error. Found a manual download site for gapps hdpi. Hopefully I can install it correctly

Gingerbread network connectivity issue

Hi guys, I'm new to Android, swaped my 3Gs for a N1, I manually updated the phone to FW 2.3.3 (GRI40), the phone is stock, no root, no custom firmware.
The phone randomly loses network connectivity, (no network available message on display) I can't connect using 3G but I can with Wi-Fi, can't make phone calls, only way to fix this is to reboot the phone or switch airplane mode on/off.
I have radio version 5.08.00.04, kernel 2.6.35.7-59423-g08607d4.
I like this phone and don't want to swap it for an iPhone 4, but this issue is starting to get on my nerves, please let me know if there is a fix for this.
Root and flash cm7.2. Has more goodness than others. Then flash Inexus theme to make it eyecandy when look at and google apps package.

Ok, I tried everything and nothing seems to work, I reverted back to FRG33, but I can't root the device, everything fails, I can't go back to EPE76 or something else, I get the old version error.
I can't update to 2.2.1 or anything higher than that (including moded GRI40 versions) because I get the signature error.
Basically I can only install FRG33 or GRI40 (stock FW), the phone works fine on FRG33 but I would like to be able to install 2.2.2 (FRG83G i think), cause the 2.3.3 is just crap, reminds me of some older iPhone firmwares.
So, what should I do, cause i'm out of ideeas, please keep in mind that this is my first android phone when you explain something.
Thanks.
You can either root, or flash the updates one at a time:
FRG33> FRG83> FRG83D> FRG83G> GRI40...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
I tried that but it doesn't work, I receive the no signature error.
I got the fw from the wiki.
Strange...
Just for a sanity check, make sure that the files you downloaded aren't a zip within a zip, and MD5 check for integrity...

I checked the archives, everithing is fine, I done a factory reset and tried again with the same result.
I am on FRG33 now (I flashed the rom using passimg.zip copied on the SD), trying to update to FRG83, I got the ROM's from here. I receive this error:
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
This sh**t is driving me mad.
I got bootloader 0.35.0017 and it's unlocked.
You're unlocked?
Are you running a custom recovery (Ra)?
Have you turned signature verification off?

I bought this phone from a guy, and I don't know exactly what he has done with it before but when I go into bootloader (trackball+power) I get a line that says unlocked, I don't know exactly what it means, it's like the one in the attachment.
It means your bootloader is unlocked. Basically, you now have the ability to install images to the phone through fastboot on the PC.

After a few hours of reading and rom download I managed to update 2.2 to 2.2.1 using this rom "766a101ae02c.signed-passion-ota-60505.766a101a.zip" not sure where I downloaded it from but worked like a charm and then I applied the the updates to get to 2.2.2 (FRG83G).
And now, how do I root? I tried SuperOneClick, I installed the USB drivers etc, the software runs, it installs superuser on my phone, the SOC SU test is OK but I installed Terminal on the phone and the SU command returns access denied, also I installed Root Manager and it doesn't start because it doesn't have sufficient permissions, I have no pop-up when opening to grant root access to Root Manager.
Any ideas?
I finally managed to root my phone thanks to Danger-Rat's super easy tutorial you can find here
Thanks for all the help.

[Q] GRI40 With New Radio and HBOOT?

Ahhh, it's possible in the format for doing the passimg then. You could try that, but you will lose data and settings...
There is a full image in the ROM section of the wiki, have you tried that?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Yeah, tried renaming it to PASSIMG.ZIP and flashing using the stock bootloader and nothing happens. The stock GRI40 on the wiki fails because its looking for the new HBOOT.
Looks like you're down to multiple files then...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
look at the PASSIMG.zip
Sometimes I've found the actual PASSIMG.zip is inside the passimg.zip compressed folder. Open the zip to see if you find another zip... or files.
Booting the phone by holding down the trackball should automatically load the flash and away you should go.
Inside the PASSIMG.ZIP are boot.img system.img recovery.img and userdata.img
When booting it recognizes the PASSIMG file is there and starts checking it. Then does nothing.

Wish it gave me a message, it just drops back to the bootloader screen with the skateboards.

My signature has a link for the 0.35 HBOOT.
I haven't seen a link to the 5.08 radio by itself (in a Google-signed, flashable zip), but it is included in the update links to GRI40.
The file that danger-rat is referring to on HTC's website is NOT a full shipped ROM. In order to be able to use that file, you need to already be on HBOOT 0.35 AND radio 5.08.

Try flashing the HBOOT from my sig, then flash this:
http://android.clients.google.com/p...b119f8.signed-passion-ota-102588.656099b1.zip which includes the 5.08 radio.
It should take to to fully-stock Gingerbread!
Is it possible to take the GRI40 image from developer.htc.com and insert the 5.08 radio.img and hboot.img. Rename the whole thing to PASSIMG.ZIP and flash that?

But what seems to be the problem? Flash the HBOOT, then flash the Gingerbread update and you are set.

Easy Root/ Unroot

USE FROYO RUU TO GO TO STOCK FROYO AND USE UNREVOKED TO ROOT PHONE AGAIN
*I HAVE NOT tried this with an S-ON incredible yet. You can use this to root your device if you want to wipe everything clean and start over, OR you could return to stock and receive the OTA update then stay with stock.*
So for some reason I unrooted my phone and wanted to receive the newest OTA from Verizon to check it out. Well it turns out that I missed rooting. So I had S-OFF on my phone, but the stock android 2.3.4 and sense 1.0 image. To get back to stock froyo and later use unrevoked i did this...
1. Download this... (http://dev-host.org/hhfe0ddz0igb/RU...4k_NV_1.70_PRL58006_release_152016_signed.exe) and save somewhere on your COMPUTER.
2. Plug phone into computer.
3. Run this file on your computer and follow on screen instructions. ***CAUTION: This will erase all data on phone and I would advise you to backup your sd card contents on a folder on your computer!***
4. When it says complete, it will appear that it is in a bootloop, hold on
5. Remove battery and go to hboot (volume down button + power button)
6. Select factory reset and let it do its thing.
7. Once that is over, you will need to activate the device so follow the instructions on your phone.
8. BOOM! now you have a stock froyo, unrooted device.... now what.
9. In case you forgot... download unrevoked (http://unrevoked.com/#inc)
10. Follow these preliminary instructions as well if you are on windows (http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install)
11. Run unrevoked and well congrats..... youre rooted!!! FLASH AWAY!!
Great
I just completed the "downgrade to 2.2 using unrevoked 3.22". This would have been much easier. At least I had a learning opportunity.

Thank you but should I change the radio and spl? I need help as to how can I is my G1 as they post e911
Part of the rooting process will do this and you will want in then end to get the .13d SPL and 2708 radio but you need to get to compatible radio and SPL first. I've only rooted one rogers dream so off the top off my head I can't tell you all the proper steps, not at a computer to link you easy either. I don't believe you need to worry much about the post 911 patch anymore but when I rooted this I used the steps laid out in the cyanogen wiki and it all worked fine for me. ok sop get your custom recovery from HERE make sure you get one with an "R"
now flash the 1.33.2005 bootloader, found a working link HERE
Once all is complete and confirmed good the follow THESE INSTRUCTIONS to fully update phone and allow for newest roms
The last section requires you to learn fastboot, there are ways not to, but your going to have to try first
Hey thanks alot I finally did it, hboot was updated but the radio didn't I flashed the one in ezterry's thread multiple times through recovery but it just didn't update still I flashed ezgingerbread so now its working.

I got the hang of fastboot thanks to you but this problem is wrecking my nerves.
There is an option in ROM manager to flash another recovery, never use ROM manager so can't attest to how well it works, my guess is you have a bad image your trying to download, personally I like amonra the best for the g1, I believe the version is like 1.7 and if you go to amonras thread you will get download link and md5sum to check
