The past 2 days I've been running into an issue with my battery that I can't figure out on my own.
First off, I'm running CM7 Final, gApps 307, IR's most recent kernel, and the SS4N1 script. I normally average around 2%/hr.
Well, this morning I woke up to this:

I didn't think much of it, thought it more of a fluke and went on about my day. Well, I get to work and charge it up to 100%, pull it off and in 4 hours I'm looking at this:
For some reason, Google Services is keeping my phone awake and not letting it sleep normally. As you can see, the phone has been unplugged for 4 hours and all but 20 minutes it has been kept awake due to this service. When I go to my Running Services screen, under Google Services, it shows that Google Messaging Service is real culprit and keeping my phone in wakelock.
I did a bit of searching around and it seems that the Google Messaging Service is used for pushing notifications from the Google cloud (I saw gTalk and Chrome2Phone mentioned specifically). I went into gTalk and disabled auto sign in and uninstalled C2P yet after a reboot the process starts back up almost instantly. However, it doesn't seem to be keeping the phone awake at the moment. Then again, it's only been running for about 10 minutes but so far the "Keep Awake" timer for Google Services has not gone up.
I discovered that Google Services was causing a wakelock when I was loading my battery usage screen. Before the words "Google Services" would load, it would show "*wakelock*" for about a second then replace it with "Google Services"
Has anyone else run into this issue before? Suggestions?
I am going to flash CM7 nightly #39 when I get home from work to see if that helps the issue. I've been running CM7 for about a week now yet the problem appeared for the first time last night/this morning.
i've not seen that issue yet, and i'm running cm7 too. so weird when random things like this happen that are unexplainable. i'd just give it more time, maybe flash again, another test.

I can confirm this issue. Google services "wakelocked" for half of the day. Running CM7 "stable" (7.0.0, not nightlie) :/
Since I turned off auto sign in and uninstalled chrome 2 phone I haven't seen the problem.

Good to hear that, but I don't consider it as a solution, because I use them often The worst thing is that it appears randomly:/
Hi did this ever get solved?
I'm actually running a stock ICS 4.0.1 OS on a galaxy nexus and just recently had an almost identical problem arise. I've had fantastic battery life (easily get through one day of typical use on one charge), but just this morning i woke up and my phone had dropped 70% over night.
I plugged it in to charge and it usually gains 1% each minute, but now was taking 4 minutes for 1%. Checked the battery app and there appears to be a *wakelock* on Google Services.
i uninstalled Chrome2Phone and logged out of gtalk, but the problem persists. Google Services is 35-40% of my battery usage now.
Does anyone know what is causing this and how to stop it?
I bought this in December 2011, and it was running perfectly til just today.
Thanks a lot.

Does anyone have an idea as to what happened to my battery here? I'm thinking faulty battery unless someone has seen this before?

mee too
Does this happen often???
Cuz im facing the similar problem but for me .....gigantic battery drops occur after i resart the phone.......may be we should change our KERNEL. I heard hydracore is gr8
I wouldnt say its your battery, If you look at the blue lines below you will see that there is a big gap when screen is off, Yet the phone is waking up many many times whilst the screen is off.
This says to me that there is an app causing your phone to not enter deep sleep. Your best bet would be to install Better Battery Stats (free on XDA, Paid on Play store) and/or Watchdog lite.
this will tell you which apps and proccesses are using more power than needed. Then you can take action from there.
Battery drain is an issue for most android users, and has millions of possible causes, so elimination is key to finding the culprit.
ofcourse.. this is happening because of wakelocks... power off the phone. remove the battery for a minute and pack it up again boot into recovery.. wipe battery stats and check again

It's only happened this once. And I think the vertical line suggests it was during a reboot?
I've dealt with wakelocks before but never seen this. I'll have a look with betterbatterystats to see for those wake events.

I'll give this a go.
This occured to me on XXLSA Jelly bean, after researching, I found it is due to media scanner running for long time
I used Rescan media root app from play store to disable media scanner and this didn't happen again
It is worth noting that this problem would NEVER happen in CM-based ROMs - Huge battery life!
Hmm I've been running CM10 since the nightlies first appeared and tbh, whether on original battery or gold battery or my extended battery, I always get drops offs (maybe only 5 per cent) on any reboot

I noticed battery drop after I started bluetooth my music through my car stereo.
Apparently it's a bug in a file called "media server" in Android that causes that.
The short fix is, after I stream music, if I'm not going to stream for a while, I reboot
the phone. Killing the service for media server won't stop it, you have to reboot.
I ran a battery program that showed overnight, the media server wasn't going to
sleep, kept wakelocking. After rebooting, the battery only lost 2-3% overnight,
and before, it was losing 10-20% overnight. Might be worth looking into.
full decharge (1bar,not really full) and fullbrechargr cycles might make it better. A sudden drop like this screams battery replacement. If in warrantee period get it replaced.

Hello folks,
Yesterday i finally became tired of the ridiculous battery life my phone was geting in official 4.3 rooted. I tried another kernels, uninstalling facebook, facebook messenger (those are said to drain battery) and finally i saw something that was the cause: ~30% of battery usage was by Android System, aka samgung included apps. I installed some ROM without those samsung bloats and seems like the battery is normal again (like it was with 4.1.2). I'm still testing and would be awsome if someone else can get a lot more battery life without those samsung apps and be happy again, like me.
By the way, i installed THIS ONE, but i'm almost sure any 4.3 stock rom without those excluded apps will be fine.
BEFORE: Overnight i had ~4% of battery drain with EVERYTHING turned off, wifi, gps, everything!
NOW: Last night i had ~3% of battery drain with wifi and data ON!
Weird isn't? I think our phone had a very bad OTA this time. Share your experiences! Hope you all get a better battery with this
world wide web says 4.3 OTA across all models has a negative battery defect.
did you root directly from android 4.3?

Yes, before and after the ROM i mentioned (EVR, link in OP)
Reporting:
Right now, my battery level is 40%. Phone is on 1day and 5hours, moderate use. Here is my usage:
WIFI always on yesterday since 3:00pm, switched it off about 12:30 am.
About 12:40 am i switched mobile data on. Mobile data was on til 9:00 am, then i switched all toogles off.
Turned on WIFI AND mobile data about 4:00 pm and until now its all switched on except GPS.
When battery reached something like 5% i will update the post.
Reporting 2:
Now my battery level is 5%, here is my usage since last report. Something i didnt said earlier is that im usimg agni kernel 3.3, cause boeffla caused me random reboots. Using zzmoove as governor and everything else with default values:
WIFI on til midnight, hear some music before this on phone speaker
Switched all off on sleep, at this time (12:40 am) battery level was about 26%
Today turned WIFI on about 9:00 am listening music and browsing
Bellow are screenshots of battery stats today

hey all i am having the issue with official stock but its media server
I even formatted the ext sd but its back.
Any ideas?
Hey all,
After upgrading to nougat, I've had pretty terrible battery life. Essentially, my phone will always drain battery. Turns out, every 6 seconds on average, Google quicksearchbox is turning on my phone for something or another. I've tried wiping cache and data through system and recovery for Google services with no luck. I don't have any wakelock contributing to this. I've disabled a ton of apps and settings so far with no change. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this short of trying a factory reset or custom rom? What else can I try? I'm not rooted. Thanks!

I think Google services does some background activities after we upgrade Android versions.. typically for 2-3 battery cycles.. after which you should get better results.. if it's past that too.. then it might be a drain issue

I upgraded on the 31st and was having this issue 6-7 days out. I upgraded a few hours ago to the 4.0.1. Hoping that does the trick. Few hours in and doesn't seem to be too much better unfortunately. Fingers crossed.

1. Disable which app? Google now? No, because it didn't used to do this and I use google now all the time. I'm sure if it was an issue with the app version, other people would be having issues too.
2. Yes, tried this. No change
What helped me with battery is turning location to high accuracy then turning off google location history, then go into battery and turning on "close app with high battery drain", and turning on agresive hibernation, and finally restricting any app that don't need cell to wifi only. Hope it helps, I did this to my brother's OnePlus 3 and it saves him about 40% at the end of the day.
Found the issue: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/battery-life-heres-how-fixed-t3536456
This is the first phone I've had in ages having this issue, usually consuming 60% or more battery...

I had about 35% battery drain on Facebook Services. I just had to deactivate that app, and now it disappeared.
Have u tried with factory reset?

Problem solved, it was completely my fault as "location" was turned on as I forgot to disable it after using Google Maps.
It's a huge battery sucker whether used or not. Leaving it on drains your battery like never before.

Regarding this, the default option of Localization for "Find my Device" (in Google options) is Set on "Yes".
So, even of you turned off your GPS, it's still on and it will drain battery.
i have same issue, ove 20% drain from google play services. clearing its data didnt fix the issue. funny part it drained those 22% over 7 minutes of app usage

Thanks for pointing this out, I have now disabled "Find my Device" completely, I'll see how the battery goes & report back shortly.
I'm also having a huge battery drain due to google play services and play store. I disabled location, find my phone, turned off WiFi scanning. But still I see a lot of battery drain even with no app usage.

I find that the more notifications that come through the more battery drain Google Services incurs. I've turned off notifications for most apps, except for SMS and my Galaxy Watch. Notifications wake the phone and Google Play Services too.
Does this happen on the Global version too?
Hello,
I had the same problem. But I fixed it by disabling: 'Carrier Service'.
Hope this helps others!
Carrier service? What's that?
Hello, this is my first post on xda so sorry for any mistakes.
I've had CherishOS 3.9.5 on sweet for a good while now and this problem started a month ago.
Device does not go into deep sleep at all, idle drain is so high that it doesn't even make sense.
For example today, when i went to sleep, i closed all apps and turned off the mobile network. There was a drain from 57% to 19% over 6 hours.

I rooted my phone and installed betterbatterystats for further investigation and found this
I found this today. Previously i scoured through forums for a similar issue and found that disabling double tap to wake should fix the issue. I did that and it did fix the battery, but only for 2 days and then it went back to the god awful drain. It's a real pain to have my phone charging all the time.
Any help is appreciated and I can post anything further if I missed anything here. Thank you
What Kernel u use? Had this issues too with different Kernel and Versions, but with AGHISNA-OSS-12-03-2023-signed seems all fine and working decent.
Give it a try, i wont touch my Kernel for a while, because never touch a running system.
Attached is the Aghisna OOS for LQ8000. If u have that other Chargingboard, u have to search on Sourceforge for it.

It seems you're having GMS battery drain.

And kill the battery in the process. Another reason to avoid google.
calibrat your batterie try to using your phone until it turns off completely and wait 3 hours while it is turned off after that plug in without turn it on until you see 100% icon battery in the dark page and try to give it another 3 hours after that plug out and power on your phone and use it until 15% ..and voilĂ your batterie is fresh and calibrate and happy
Update to Cherish build 4.61 not newer nor older
this precise build specially the vanilla one with nikgapps core is very satisfieng combination with superb bb and barely noticable drain
try it and report back
ps: clean install is a must to have the best results
Good luck
