[Q] I cant format my System or Data ? - Nook Color General

.
.
I am trying to format my SYSTEM and DATA under ClockworkMod (bootable sd). But I keep getting an error.
formating SYSTEM
E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
ERROR formating SYSTEM
I am using 128mb_CM7_SD_clockwork-0.1-ext4.img
I can not mount System or Data
I can not format System or Data
I am using CWM Recovery v3.0.0.6
I can flash roms from CWM just fine ... but I want to format the system and data first.
Thanks for any info !

Looks like you're using my modded CWM for SD. Check my OPand flashthe CWMdualboot.zip file. It will install CWM 3.0.1.0 to your SD. To boot into recovery. Just hold the home button when booting up. Leave it alone and boot normally. However. You can't just flash any rom to SD. It needs to be from my thread only. Ill have an updated flashable Phiremod rom to SD tomorrow morning my time NYC.

Thank you ! You were 100% correct and everything is fine now : )

[Q] Error Formatting /system

I recently tried installing phiremod but I didn't properly format /system and /data. When I try to boot up, I get stuck at the boot animation.
I tried going back to CWR to properly format /system and /data and then reapply the .zip, but when I try to format /system or /data I get an error:
Error formatting /system!
Error formatting /data!
What should I do so that I can format /system and /data?

typically you dont need to format system, you just need to wipe data. what version of Clockwork Recovery do you have?
3.0.0.6 is for CM7 only. 3.0.0.5 and below won't work.
3.0.1.0+ will work on all roms.
Thanks, I was using the wrong version. I'm trying to use winimage to burn the right version to an SD card but I keep getting an error saying "Error Reading File"
Edit: Is 3.0.1.0 meant to only be an update?
I'm getting the same error and my nook is just keep rebooting.
3.0.0.5 - Error Formatting / System!
3.0.0.6 - No error message
3.0.1.0 - Error Formatting / System!
So I used 3.0.0.6 and flash to CM7 again but still not working.

[Q] cd/card/.android_secure..

hey guys, i recently got my android and as far as i know, it seems like i cannot wipe data/factory reset after i made recovery
CWM-based recovery v5.0.2.7
-- wiping data...
formatting /data...
formatting /cache...
formatting /sd-ext...
formatting sdcard/.android_secure...
error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
skipping format...
data wipe complete.
when i researched someone vaguely said to odin the stock ROM. does that mean i need to check PDA for "N7000XXLA4_N7000OXALA4_N7000XXLA4_HOME.tar.md5" - the stock ROM?
i tried this several times and tried "N7000XXKJ4_N7000OXAKJ4_N7000XXKJ4_HOME.tar.md5" but it does not work.
please help me fixing this.

This is what I get when I go in my Recovery Mode:

Succesfully applied multi-CSC.
E:failed to mount /sdcard (File Exists)
Reboot system gives me this:
E:copy_log_files_to_data: Can't mount /dataRebooting.
A
pply update from sdcard doesnt give any option
wipe data/factory reset gives me this:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Formatting /dbdata...
Deleting Meta Data
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe complete.
Wipe cache partition gives me this:
-- Wiping cache...
Formatting /cache...
Cache wipe complete.
When I install new firmware I get errors the same like this.
Now I have tried to install all firmwares (from 2.2.1 to 2.3.6) and nothing works.
I had my Galaxy running on a costum ROM (I don't remember the name, it was something with Ario).
What to do? I'm quite lost..

Check My Android Solutions as to what may work for you
I had the same problem. My internal memory card was broken. I have received my repaired phone from Samsung service centre 2 days ago.

solutions for /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 or /mmcblk0p1 or /mmcblk0p0 are all never the same, it all depends on as to what caused the format failure .
You can try flashing the same ROM twice or more with different PIT ( i9000 has 3 PIT files)
But if the problem was caused by Lagfix, which you had failed to undo before a factory reset or upgrade...than your Internal SD card needs to be reformatted back to rfs.(vfat) ..which is why the stock ROM fails to solve the problem as your current format is in ext 4.
So nothing will work, IF your internal SD card had been converted to Ext 4 format, until you find a way to format it back to vfat.
For Korean version of Galaxy S , flashing an Eclair will solve all problems except this lagfix problem. So you can try the Eclair for i9000 at My Android Collections
Suggest you try to format your Internal SD card ( remove ext SD card and Sim Card) , before trying any ROMS

[Q] SCH-i800 fail to mount error

Hi guys, received a VZW sch-i800 from a friend and trying to get it to work. Any relevant searches have led me here, but no suggestions I've seen have worked so far. Tab is stuck in boot loop. I've flashed it with odin and heimdall (versions 1.1 to 1.3.2) with various files suggested, but everytime I get back into recovery mode and attempt to do a factory restore I get the following:
--Wiping data...
Formatting /data
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Formatting /dbdata...
Formatting /cache...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
Data wipe complete.
E:failed to mount /preload (no such file or directory)
E:install_application_for_customer: Can't mount /preload
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions
and then a line of code telling me it can't mount cache.
I was able to get CWM recovery and the device would give me a different menu, but still the same issue with mounting cache. The instructions on CWM mentioned running a zip program from the sdcard, but no zip showed up in the directory when I looked on the device.
Any help greatly appreciated.
I have the same issue you reference. Did you ever figure out how to fix this? Thanks
I'm also having the same issue with my SCH-i800 after getting CM9.1 up and running. I'm thinking (hoping) it could have something to do with me updating CWM through Google Play (from v5.0.2.7 to v6.0.2).
got sch-i800 broke from someone we know

[Q] [HELP] Error mounting /system & /cache in stock recovery

Guys need your attention & a consoling solution for my bricked phone, that can go in recovery & download mode. But the stock recovery mode says
--Applying multi CSC--
E:failed to mount/system(Invalid arguement)
E:failed to mount/cache(Invalid arguement)
E:cant open /cache/recovery/log
The troubled began when i added internet tweaks to build.prop.
When i reboot, phone got stuck at samsung logo.
Then when i opened cwm their i found error mounting system, & was unable to restore backups but when i used Rafael's "FORMAT ALL EXT4.ZIP" i was able to mount /system in cmw but these errors got shifted to stock recovery
now i'm able to flash zips & restore backups but of no use. still phone stuck at logo
Do i need to take my phone to Service center or any other advices?

The reason you are getting those errors is that stock recovery cannot handle ext4, that's normal.
Probably the simplest thing to do would be to follow the unbrick tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840645
thanks for specifying the Ext4 problem...
can i get back to Ext3 by flashing any zip through cmw recovery?
Well rfs is the default file system format, not ext3. If you use this version of CWM then you can go to mounts and storage > format /cache, /system and /data back to rfs. However you will obviously now have no ROM on your phone so will still need to either restore a backup or flash a zip of a ROM that includes the entire /system folder, which is most, if not all. I've never tried this technique by the way, so no guarantees here.
Also try to restore only Nandroid backups made with the same version of CWM that you are using to avoid problems.
