T-Mobile G2x comes with the same UI as Optimus 2x?? I like the UI that comes with the european version of Optimus 2x P990 especially the weather widget similar to Beautiful weather but this one has the live wallpaper along with the weather condition, I know the HTC sense interact with the weather condition but I think the LG version is so much better so I'm just hoping the T-Mobile version comes with the same O2x UI.

Sorry but it wont have the same interface. The T-Mobile G2X is actually a vanilla Android phone. I just got done playing with the store demo that came in today, and it is for the most part Vanilla. so only expect to see the stock Android weather widget on it.

Also work for t-mobile and am playing with it right now. No lag, very snappy, phone feels like it was quality made, screen looks really good, all around a good phone I think.

I'm debating if i should wait for SGS2 to come out on t-mobile or to get this one.
what i like about the SGS2 is the hardware encryption, nfc and sp-Amoled.
but if it does not come-out with AWS (1700/2100) support then can't get it

Don't blame you! I am the "samsung embassador" at the store and hopefully they give the SGS2 out free
i was on vacation for the last 7 days, came back to find my store stocked up with G2X's and still no release date
definitely made me chuckle
we didnt get a live demo for some reason, but have 20+ physical inventory. if we dont get a demo in the shipment tomorrow i'm just going to open one up.
So can we walk in the store and purchase a g2x for full price on the 20th? Or are those for pre-orders only?

It would seem that, so far, firmwares for identical LG Android hardware on different GSM carriers are mutually compatible - e.g. LG Optimus T, Optimus One (Telus), Optimus One (Europe). This is similar to the case with HTC (whereas with Motorola and Sony Ericsson, sometimes Samsung, you have to be careful about flashing the right baseband files).
So... if you really really want the Optimus 2x UI instead of stock, I have a feeling you'll be able to flash the O2x firmware on top of your G2x and end up with the LG interface but also the right 3G bands. At your own risk of course.
Ok so considering the two are so closely related Root should be pretty much identical I would assume? Meaning the Optimus 2x and the G2x.

Hi,
I'm currently using a Motorola Milestone A853 (GSM version of the CDMA Verizon Droid), and I'm looking to upgrade to the LG Optimus 2X P990 soon. Is there anybody out there who also came from the Motorola Milestone?
I want to know the battery life as compared to the Milestone... The Milestone sometimes has terrible battery life (6 hours!). I'm hoping LG Optimus 2X will be a good purchase. What do you guys think?
Personally i believe the optimus was a good buy, especially now. the newer phones dont seem to have problems.
6 hours? LOL even the lgos can beat that ;D
I'd say, go for it. Its an incredibly good phone with some teaks
Have had the O2X for just over 2 months now. I had a few reboots and freezes initially but not after the V10d update from LG. The only other issue I had with the phone was an unreliable USB connection to the PC. I got the phone replaced and haven't had any problems with the new one.
You haven't mentioned whether you are looking for an out of the box phone or are willing to install a custom ROM on it. This seems to be the most well supported dual cure android out there at the moment with Cyanogen and Modaco doing great stuff for it.
Based on my experience, I have no issues recommending this phone but that doesn't mean there are 'better' alternatives out there depending on what you are looking for.
Battery usage is subjective and depends on usage as well. I am ok with battery life. I get better life out of it by freezing certain rogue stock apps like Car Home after rooting though .
Let us know what you decide.
I have been using a milestone for over a year. I am happy with the upgrade. I don't miss the hardware buttons and i prefer the thinner design of the Lg. The speed in applications and internet browsing has improoved. I'm also impressed by the media playback. The other night i streamed an online flashvideo through hdmi to my tv, without any problems at all. There are a lot of disappointed Lg ovners because of the continuing fw delays. But it's nothing compared to the way, the Milestone owners has been treated by Motorola.

I read about the reboots, but I'm not so bothered. My current Milestone is worse (DSI errors!) and is not fixable. But nice, good to know there's an official fix.

I'm actually a power user so I'm fine with both. If stock LG with minor fixes are good to go, then I'd prefer to go that route. I frequently do ROM cycles on my Milestone, currently using CM7 on it, but thanks to the locked bootloader, I haven't had a taste replacing the kernel yet Glad to know it's officially supported by Cyanogenmod!

I originally considered the Samsung Galaxy S II, but it was too expensive even under contract (S$488, SingTel, Singapore). LG Optimus 2X is S$218, and since I can trade in my Milestone for S$100, it's effectively S$118, pretty good price. So I'm kinda fixed on O2X

Even i changed to optimus 2x from Milestone.threatened Motorola through legal methods and got my whole money back.
anyway coming to the main point.O2X is much better than Milestone.A choice i dont regret.I just Miss the MIUI Roms.
My battery easily lasts 1-1.5 days.I am a heavy user.Wifi,Games,Songs,Movies.
The best Part bieng an open boot loader.we dont have to wait for the Companies to provide an Update.
Ram is double than that of milestone. The processor is dual core not to mention it has HDMI out and the graphics are awesome.
All in all you should be happy with the O2X
Hi,
I came from a Motorola Defy to Optimus 2x and I should say that Motorola is releasing poor software compared to LG (even if it's not perfect).
The video playback is really good out of the box (Divx / Divx HD support and more), the camera is by far better, the bootloader is opened for real good custom roms, the battery will improve with time today it's more than a day for me.
Don't hesitate go for it.
Compared with the SGXS2, it records full HD 1080P, the screen being smaller, the phone is a bit smaller (not thinner), today again I would think about the difference for the price.
Cheers
The SGSII has some serious display issues right now, i wouldnt go for it at the moment.
As ive said previously, my brother has already sent back 2 SGSII
Given the ridiculous delay of the Gingerbread release for the Optimus Black, which most of us bought partly due to the promise of 2.3 - Please vote below ONLY if you are an Optimus Black owner, waiting for Gingerbread.
Would you buy another LG Android device ever?
1.Yes
2.No
3.Maybe
Y, maybe. This weak support is general for all brands HTC, LG..
Yes. My OB runs fine on V11c. Using TW Launcher 4.5 and it runs almost as fast as my Atrix 4G. Just wait. . . "Good things come,to those who wait".
Motorola Atrix 4G
Y, maybe.... I ecperience the same thing with my LG P500, but still I bought Optimus Black... LG usually offers lower price compare to other brand with same hardware spec... About the software, just wait for custom ROM...
no..never big mistake with ob
i want to buy LG TV and curious of LU6200 , so i won't vote.. sorry
my answer is probably yes...
although the android 2.3 of optimus black seems willing to be released late,
the phone is still functioning perfectly with lg original rom or nova 8...
LG made a perfect little phone aside from the delay on the software. The phone works fine with 2.2. GB is a bonus at least for me.

the optimus black looks good, stylish, has great specs and a competitive pricetag... a very decent phone to own. i should say yes, but no... never. i will never buy another lg phone because of same reasons other people posted above.
it depends, I'm waiting until mid October to see if they keep their promise.
If GB is not out before at this date, it means that LG cannot be trust ("soon in GB" in their ads) so I would never buy LG anymore.
Apart from the bad sound quality(music over headphone jack) i cannot say a single thing that's not acceptable for me.
Also, with Launcher PRO it's a pretty usable device, and you have to count in that at this price point there isn't any competitor on the market. Oh btw you shouldn't care about 2.3(almost a year old) at this point, but you should care if there'll ever be 2.4!
Hell no
Lying to their customers is the worst they can do. They should never compromise the trust we gave to them.
I will save up and buy the nexus line after this. Fool me once LG, but not anymore.
main reason i want to trade is because of the dual core feature
do you think its worth it?
It depends on your own taste. Here is a comparing between them: esato.com/phones/compare.php?phone=768&cp=733
You will lose HTC Sense, you will lose HSPDA+ and the Voicedialing. But you will get a dualcore. Maybe we get an ICS update:
LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true. LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.

Thank you for your reply I live in a country where we only have 2g so no loss on that side also htc sense would be a great loss but i plan on using many replicating widgets to replace that loss to some extend also the deal would be a trade no cash involved
If you would get it trade (without having to add money) than I would go for it, personally. There are also some people who are trying to get sense to Galaxy S, so maybe it will be also there for LG O2X. It absolutely won't be impossible! But ofcourse it is your decision...
What do you think about this phone (L9) ? I've read that it works smoothly and battery lasts a long time. In my country the phone costs 900PLN. For example Lg 4X costs about 1350PLN and I can sell my black for 500PLN. I would like to buy, but I do not know if it is worth it. It have dual-core proccesor and SGX540 and 4,7 IPS screen with a little higher resolution. Gpu is old, I think. I can not decide and I'm waiting for a good answer. Sorry for my bad English.
Its like "hanging in palm tree after falling from sky" (A hindi proverb translated roughly). Sell ur OB and dont look back for LG. I m yet amazed you are going to buy another mobile from LG. IMO go for HTC as they have very vast support by XDA and their updates are good too.

as I always recommend, go for an AOSP device Galaxy nexus or the next nexus4 (made by LG) or some of the new xperias.
Yea, but in my sweet country Nexus 4 costs two times more and it doesn't have microsd slot. If thera is 32gb model of this phone, sure I will buy it. I saw on the youtube that L9 is very smooth, have good performance, good battery, nice screen(I don't need a full hd in phone) and good looking.
I have tried this phone and i can tell you that it is very smooth in comparision to another smatphone like optimus l7. Also the materials (for me) are really good, i also would buy l9 because it doesn't costs much for what it offers

L9 is better than P970 for most things, but according to GSMArena it doesn't have GPU and it will choke on high graphics games.
@pkb_always4
It depends on what phone you have not the brand. It varies. Out P970 community is better than a lot of HTC phones just as some HTC phones community is better than ours. Were alot better of than most phones this old since other companies like HTC decides rather not to give updates than take a while longer to release them (Even though they're supposed to but Google doesn't enforce it strictly enough). If you want a guaranteed awesome phone, awesome community and awesome official then theres only Nexus. The only problem is that it's expensive.

Same GPU as the Nexus S/Galaxy S, so it's better than the OB but not that much, compared to the Mali 400 in the Galaxy S II/S III and Xperia U/P. The Xperias have the same CPU as the L9.

Well said. I am long time hater of LG for its slow support, but pals, THEY MAKE UNBRICKABLE PHONES. LG Support Tool always UNBRICKED every phone (which I know). This is TOPMOST best feature of LG. Now about slow or no support, who cares? We have XDA One of my friend already bricked HTC phone last year and later sold it in scrap.
This is the reason, this week only, I upgraded to new economical but still strong model LG L9 with 4.7" screen. Long duration Li-Ion 2150 mAh battery, which gives two full working days (and roaming also) which is rare in most Android Smartphones. So now people should stop cursing them, like I did. I also recommend all for LG Nexus 4 if good budget, else go for L9.
EDIT: How LG phones are unbrickable? When you press few HARDWARE buttons on phone simultaneously the phone hardware puts phone in SW Upgrade Mode. No matter phone is bricked or working. In this mode most devices download full rom with the help of LG Support Tool and your phone is back in action.
Most (not all) of the phones from other companies does not even come in such upgrade mode and you loose chances of bringing LIFE back to phone, leaving only one option to send to Service Center and well you know how much they charge. I did not pay a single penny to Service Center for any of my bricked phones.
here are the main differences ...
connectivity:
.p970 Has a gyroscope , l9 not
p970 can be used as a WiFi hot spot l9 not.
l9 Has DLNA p970 not.
camera:
Clearly better video recording quality 1080p @30 fps (l9) vs 720p @30 fps (p970)
power
Appreciably more battery power 2,150 mAh (l9) vs 1,500 mAh (p970) => 44% more battery power

Any other devices considered as well.
I realize this may be in the wrong section, sorry if it is.
GS2 all the way. If you can get the O2X P990 over the G2X, then that's a good choice too, but the GS2 is still better.
The G2X is going to be stuck on Gingerbread until someone figures out how to get the cell radio working in CM10 (currently it's been ported from the P990 CM10 and everything works except the phone part, lol). The O2X has official CM10 support but it is still not quite as stable as most would like. The GS2 on the other hand got official ICS and JB updates and has great support from CM10 and AOKP.
sgs2 is better, do not get a g2x, get an optimus 2x.

wait, Isn't the osx and g2x pretty much the same phone, just different branding? I honestly don't know if ICS of Jelly Bean has anything I NEED. I just want it to be stable, have the market so I can download apps, games. Stuff like NFC is cool and all, but the chance of me using it is real slim. I think I am still an Iphone man. It's just simple, everything works ya know. things come out for it first and there isn't many issues. Idk Maybe if I got a higher end android I wouldn't mind it much. but My optimus t burned me on google os.
Also I'm on T-mobile in the states. if that makes the difference

No, there are differences besides the branding between the O2X and the G2X. The G2X was designed to run on T-Mobiles networks, so the 3G bands it works on are different than that of the O2X.
I think the SGS2 is better than both at this point though.
alrighty. I was pretty set on that anyway, but thought I would see what some fellow xdaers thought. Any idea where else I could look for a GS2? I tried Swappa, Glyde, Ebay and Craigslist. any others I could browse? trying to stay around and possibly under $230

ebay and kijiji are the only sources I'm familiar with.
The GS2 is massively popular so despite its age it's going to be expensive even used.
If you say you're more of an iPhone type of guy, I guess the G2X will fit your needs if you don't plan to flash custom ROMs.
As for ICS/JB - it's more than just NFC, it's a hardware-accelerated interface that makes scrolling silky smooth compared to GB, as well as general refinements in the UI such as the pull down notifications for SMS and the really nice lockscreen (the CM10 one at least). The hardware acceleration is the biggest deal here though.
Additionally, if you aren't the custom ROM type of guy and want simplicity, I'd suggest taking a look at Windows Phone - it's closer to iOS than to Android in that it's relatively locked down and there's hardware consistency across all handsets, but it's still considerably more flexible than iOS, i.e. you can (easily) get your media off the phone after you put it on!
Im not talk why and why, so my decision would be a SGSII... thank you xD

sgs2 with absolutely no doubt mate. the only thing id be thinking about is the s-amoled display (i kinda have a thing for lcds), but since ull be using it for less than a year i see little chance of getting any ghost effects on the display (which doesnt happen to everyone anyway). ive seen a sgs2 running ics (not even jb which is right around the corner) and i was blown away.

absolutely right. women being smarter n more practical would obviously go for a trouble free device. men, being ehhmm men, would go for the o2x so they can spend 100's of hours to fix all bugs, modify roms/kernels, overclock and then happily show off to their friends a phone that runs (almost) as it should in the 1st place

Oh I flash a lot on my Optimus1 but I'm tired of it. Regardless of what android devices I get, I'll flash something to get rid of any bloat and give myself root access to do link2sd. I can't get the O2X cause I am on T-mobile so it would be the G2X I guess. I just want to get the phone and play with it now.
I know all about Windows OS. I would but some of the games/apps I like to use arent on it yet. If apps came out within a small time period on iOS, Windows and Android, then i would consider it more but not just yet. Only thing really drawing me to windows is the awesome camera on the Nokia 920, I think.
Guess I'll try to hunt a SGS2 on craigslist or Ebay for now.Just real tired of this 600Mhz phone with 180mb for apps. LAME!
If you are willing to save a little more, I'd suggest looking at either the Galaxy Nexus (used) or the Nexus 4 (new, $300). Both are pentaband phones so they support T-Mobile and most major GSM carriers. And they are pure Android, no carrier apps or stupid skins, so if all you want to do is get rid of bloat, it's really unnecessary to flash custom ROMs onto those models. In fact, the reason I got interested in CyanogenMod at first (back in 2011 with a HTC Desire Z) was that I really wanted a Nexus experience, and all the extra customization features were just a bonus.

Yes sir, I looked for the Galaxy Nexus and it's about the same price. and the N4, well its sold out now and probably will be next time, by the time I did buy one and it shipped, I'd get my phone in June. Pff nah. I'll try to keep looking for the s2 or an older nexus. Do you think it's stupid to resign? I want to keep myself off contract so I can go where ever in the later part of the year, be it ATT or Something else. I'm so confused
I don't know a lot of phones that support AWS 1700, but one provider in my country has a fairly healthy listing:
http://shop.windmobile.ca/ProductCatalog/Handsets/
(ignore the prices there, they're bound to be inflated over what you can get stateside or on ebay - dock off at least $200 as an initial estimate).
That might introduce you to some more options, hope it helps.
Go with s2. You get more development there.

thanks guys. This can be deleted now. I'm in the forum general now
Leave the G2X where it is. No support.
I'd rather go a cheap and by a O2X, it's really supported by the community and it's a lot of fun
I must say GS2 its better dude,. Not a fanboys..

What do you think about the Sensation 4g? I can get it for under 200 unlike the GS2 which is upwards of 250 and higher.
