Hi guys,
i dont really find any related threads..
so i wanna ask you all whether it's better to stay on darky's rom
or change to MIUI?
and how serious is the battery drain problem? does it matter?
how long does the battery last?
MIUI is awesome, i never looked into it at first but im glad i did. I have been on it for weeks and i aint going elsewhere.
Battery is normal. 1-2 days at best.
Also. New updates every friday.
Highly customisable. You wil be amazed at it.
Try it and see. You can always flash back if you dont like it. But i know u will

I agree, I love this ROM, totally different to any other ROM you will have tried, it's like having a new phone. If you can flash your phone successfully and iron out some other niggles you'll get trying to update, you won't go back to another rom again
id say looks great but finding so many many annoying things - though im new today so if i missed something or a fix i apologise way in advance 690odd pages is too much to sift through
keyboard has no working dictionary
auto rotate is bust
themes doesnt seem to change all the time correctly
auto brightness seems to not work too
and keep getting FC now and then in settings
Signal keeps switching off too(only fix is lock/unlock)
besides this and as i say totally new today n maybe i screwed up or missed a fix. its a great looking rom. feels nice
Their are other roms

Darkys is a rom not the holy grail of rom development suggest you try others you can always go back.

miui 1.4.15 works awesome with zachs kernel!
now just wait for the rc5b then it will be even better

Keyboard will be fixed today. download keyboard from market temporarily
auto rotate is fine for many of us, depends on your kernel
majority of themes work perfect, very few of the 1000's of themes dont work 100%
auto brightness, again works well for many of us, check it under the settings menu.
FC in settings is due to the theme being used. as mentioned above
signal issue.... is lock/unlock so hard work ???
anyway rc5b will be released soon and im pretty sure all the above will be fixed. im sure you can appreciate the hard work taken to get this ROM almost perfect. there is no guide for this ROM, as there is for samsung ROMs.
looks like you all appreciate the miui rom
thats good.. i first thought that the battery drain would be a problem, but atm
my darky roms sucks more and i can run it only for one day
what major changes will come with rc5b? i thought of changing to rc5?
does anyone use the miui version? or is everyone on xda version?

well i use the xda version i think - the xda page directs me to 'sourceforge'
as the team translate it to english (its originally chinese)
RC5B will just fix a few bugs that is in the RC5.
you can flash to whichever version you want, just follow the steps carefully.

Buddy, try SpeedMod Kernel with DarkyROM. Trust me, you won't go back.
Even with 3G, Sync, Music & video playbacks, my I9000 has about 60% battery at the end of the day.
& of course, benchmark is about 1.9 to 2k ;-)
MIUI always gave me trouble with constant FCs.I've tried varius versions and not even one was stable. This is the most annoying thing in MIUI there is no stable version, only unstable roms full of regressions.I always end up in stock roms
I should point out that i am an avid flasher and i have the phone for over a year so i know exactly what i am talking about.
I've tried most of miui roms and I won't be going back anytime soon.
1) Theme app not working consistently. Sometimes it hangs and doesnt load anything, other times it just FC's
3) Battery, whatever they say is rank compared to a Samsung rom
4) Laggy browsers. This is was got me really REALLY frustrated.
5) No radio
6) Updated every Friday my arse. Only reason they are updated all the time is because there is so many bugs and ALWAYS something not working lol
7) The whole modification thing is a bit of a fallacy if you ask me. There's only so much you can change. Icons and wallpapers basically and most that are available are crap or just a mashup of other themes mixed with different wallpapers.
I could go on all day
I'm much happier on Samsung based roms.
They work.
You can theme them
Battery is lots better

Guys,
I'm a stability freak, kind of the opposite end of the planet from the CM7 nightly guys I suppose... I love the extra features that are in some ROMs, but Enom's ROM has lots of nice features and is rock solid stable.
But as we all know, he has taken personal leave of Android since December and maybe he'll come back, maybe he won't...
So for you all who want a stable ROM similar to Enom, what are you considering, or what have you already tried? I'm hoping CM7 gets stable and released in the next bit and I'll perhaps move to it, but I really don't want to leave Enom. However I've heard Gingerbread is a bit faster, better storage efficiency, plus fixes, etc..
I'd create a poll, but there's too many ROMs to really put in there I suppose and I'd inevitably leave one or two out, so I won't.
Really never had a problem with CM7. It never reboots and I always get my calls/messages. What do you need more stability from.
You could always try the stock rooted rom plus whatever extras you need.
I am currently using Geo's stock GB ROM. It is running pretty good. DT A2SD seems to screw with the phone volume. (Not sure how or why, but I tested this extensively over the last 2 hours and it definitely does something to it.) Battery life is a little bit lacking. Perhaps a better kernel will help that out. The only thing that is really needed is trackball wake/unlock. I hope someone can fix the code for GB soon. I never really cared for FM radio, so no loss there for me. Aside from the lack of Enom's spare parts, I am happy with it.
lets hope enom comes back to us (greedily ).. i think were all in agreeance when i say he has his priorities straight... all the best to enom..
aside from that, i enjoyed leos roms shortly after froyo was released. i think he was on personal leave as well just recently.. his spare parts reminded me of enoms as far as options. even though he doesnt have the 'hardware skills' necessary, id love to see more from leo..

Very happy with the speed & stability of Geo's GB rom!
CM7 RC1 running VERY well for me. No wonks, great battery.. stable and fast
Yes I am missing enomthers latest touch for the gingerbread ota. But family comes first. Right now I am using dsixda gingerbread rom with root, deodexe, dt's apps2sd, busybox. So far it is running good. Was on geo114m's gingerbread for a little while.
What I miss about enomthers rom is the ability to uninstall programs that you are not going to use. Now I have to semi cook a rom taking out the stuff I don't want. Only thing all of these ota gbs are missing is the trackball wake and alert. Might go back to the latest enomther until that happens.

I'm coming from Enom's ROM. I took the plunge and installed a couple of nightlies, and then CM7RC1.
I deeply regret it.
Even Dewonkifier didn't help me. Today my mic went silent and I had to reboot to regain it. I can't count the calls I've missed in the last week.
I don't like having to recompile it to build battery percentage.
Gingerbread completely sucks when it comes to launchers (or should I say it the other way around - all the launchers completely suck under Gingerbread). No launcher has been optimized to work with more than 5 screens - and that includes Go-EX / ADW / LP. They suck so badly I can't stand it. Nexus S has it the same way for almost 2 months - and it hasn't been fixed yet. I don't have high hopes of somebody fixing it too soon, until more devices with GB appear.
The only reason I'm keeping CM7 at this point is because I want to correct its RTL language support - it annoys me (specifically when mixing RTL and LTR languages, and more specifically - in punctuation). Plus, I hope to make it distinguish between LTR and RTL strings using a bit better algorithm than the "any RTL symbols in the string? => RTL string" current one. And make it adjustable under CM menus.
This week/weekend I hope to find enough time for it, test it, hopefully submit it (if I get a better solution than the current one), and I'm seriously considering going back to Enom's ROM, at least until one of the launchers gets GB-compatible and CM7 will be merged with GRI40 source and gets rid of the wonks. Never had this SMS bug for a year, don't think it'll bother me in another couple of months. And I don't use Copy-Paste nearly enough to justify GB sweetness. I'll really miss the screen animation...
Thank you very much kind sir.

This may actually be my first post here on XDA after countless hours of reading, installing, testing, tweaking and starting all over with my N1.
Your post title says it all. When Enomther called it quits, I figured my N1 had reached it's zenith and would live out it's days rocking The Official 2.14.4. This ROM does it all: Fast, many kernels available to play with, feature-rich, STABLE, did I mention fast?
Out of curiosity regarding the sheer number of threads, I just had to try an MIUI ROM. Tried the stock set-up from miui-dev.com. While I thought the graphics and integrated feature set was great, it was very buggy. Lots of little things just did not work as they should have.
I was not interested in CM7 as bloat seems to have sapped away speed over the last several months.
However, I have run the Gingerbread custom set-up put together by Geo411m and it rocks! Very stable so far, good battery life with the stock kernel, everything works like it should and the performance is excellent. Menus are snappy, web pages scroll smoothly...there are very few issues and I am thrilled that the N1s have a new lease on life.
Only two gripes about Gingerbread so far:
1) No Trackball unlock
2) No power widget integrated into the pull down - I LOVED this feature for toggling system states.
Other than those minor issues that I am sure will be addressed in future ROMs, I am thrilled with GB. Now if only Enomther would weave his magic once again...
Thanks to the great community that makes these phones so fun and powerful!

I'm with the TS when he says that he needs stability. CM7 up until RC1 was just not cutting it, too many wonks and quarks. I put CM7 RC1 on my N1 and it works, but I ended up back on Kang - o - rama's version of cm6.1. Now that I've seen Kangorama release a version with CM7, I may give that a shot.
One of my biggest concerns is memory. If I don't need the stock launcher or ADW, then I don't want to waste the memory there. Kang o rama really works that out with its advanced installer.
For now though, I'm more than happy with Kang o rama. My N1, my gf's N1, and my roommates N1 all are running it and are VERY pleased.
So not surprisingly overwhelming CM7 responses.. So maybe I'll try that as well, but I'm still going to wait until CM7 is released and the "wonky" stuff is fixed.
It's funny how some of us are having polar opposite experiences with CM7 RC1. Really good for some and totally lousy for others
I guess it depends on the usage, and on the level of stability required from the ROM...
I think if I was used to rebooting my phone once in a couple of days - I wouldn't notice some of the problems. If I wasn't used to having 7 screens filled with widgets and icons - I wouldn't complain about the launchers and GB. If I had a lot of calls - possibly I wouldn't have the phone idle for enough time to wonk out. Some uses make the problems more visible.

I'm running this one as well.
I've found it to be extremely stable and even better battery life than Enom's. I've also seen an improvement in bluetooth connectivity.
I miss most the status bar power control widget, better trackball notification and the flexibility of his spareparts mod.

these are the exact two features I'm missing from the GB roms out there. I tried Geos GB rom and after a few hours I couldn't deal without having these features.

EDIT: AND Cyanogen Mod 7 ROM DOES IT HAS BETTER CAPABILITIES??
I wanna know which rom has better capabilities simply honey or miui

which rom is faster(miui or SH) or they have +- the same speed?
which rom is stabler? or they are the same..
which rom has more and better features or they have the same?

i would go to simply honey it's simpler and really good. im not on simply honey but looking at the specs of the rom it seems really good. however front camera doesnt work as it says on the ROM and you need to reflash another kernel!
another thing is they have took out apps that came in with SGS from the stock ROM some of it i find very useful. i think the speed of both ROM is quite the same ^_^.
thanks !! waiting for more people---and which rom offers more features? SH or miui?

This is terrible, you cant compare those 2 roms.
And you said you've tested them both, so why not use that one that's better?
if its hard to understand, the word "them" means to simply honey 3.2 and 3.5 !!!
of course I can compare ONLY about the CAPABILITIES
(about how the room feels/looks/ beutiful or not-- all this things of course, I will decide by myself and im NOT asking for that)
NOTE- if you have nothing helpul to say to my question and you just wanna say negetive comments- do NOT NOT NOT answer!! its not the place for you
people please help me.. !
Dude, both are awesome. But you can not compare the two ROMs! Simply Honey is 2.3.3 based and MIUI is 2.3.4 based!
The difference in features are very minor, maybe a little here and there. But basically both are equally good ROMs. Try it out for yourself and see which one you like!
I'm currently running MIUI MCGv3 which is fantastic but it is not quite as complete as the stock custom roms like Juwe's or Simply Honey, two of the biggest let downs being the lack of an FM Radio and choppy MKV playback. But in saying that it is stunning visually and has a lot of cool unique features. I haven't used Simply Honey only Juwe's so this could be a little biased. All in all you'll have to try them out yourself, different rom's for different people and different needs.
vijaykanth--- thanks god that's what I want to know -- "The difference in features are very minor" omg thanks finally someone understands!! well I hope your right..
Shrapnel2--- thanks you very much!
still need more people and comments

The main reason I moved to MIUI from Juwe's is that I was getting bored of the same old interface even with changing round png's in the framework and modifying bits and pieces- everything still looked bland to me. Speedwise I think that if you compared the two(Juwe's or Simply Honey on ext4) you would find them to be fairly close, I think lists tend to load faster on MIUI but it has been a while. Stability is fairly good but not 100% of the time, eg before settings Force closed on me, no biggie though as I had apps fc on Samsung GB roms too. Another thing to note is battery isn't the best on MIUI, you'll easily get a day under average use but don't expect three day marathons like some Samsung roms do. So good luck on picking!
each rom is better if the person likes it .I use miui but before that i used simply honey and it was good but i like miui better .It has lots of new features
I installed Simply Honey 3.5 the day it was released, I was previously using Darky's Rom v10 and I was very happy with the change. SH is visually beautiful, I installed Dark Core kernal after installing it to fix the bluetooth issues with CF-Root.
The front camera is still displayed sideways but thats no concern to me since I barely use it anyway. Love the new lockscreens, the market is a bit odd to look at but it doesn't bug me too much (if it does there's plenty of themes out there). After flashing the SGS2 email apk I was very pleased with my phone. It's been a lot more snappier than Darky's and haven't noticed any lag at all..
I'd take Simone's advice and install SH 3.5, you wont be dissapointed =)
Just try both for a full day - you can revert to your previous one anytime with a nandroid backup.
as far as I've understood -after restoring applications, the andorid market and applanet might not recognize them as 'installed applications'. then, I will not be able to update my restored applications
and thanks everyone!!! waiting for more comments..
I have had about enough of CyanogenMod. Been using it since 5, and every single version has had significant usability problems. Currently in 7.0.3 photos are bad, GPS is non-functional, it forgets settings like keyboard, and when I first answer the phone no one can hear me.
Terrible. There has got to be something better. If not I'm going to stock.
You can use MIUI ROM
Enomther's
It's not gingerbread but is by far the most stable and the fastest.
There's many ROM on this forum, you are free to use which ever make you happy.
CM7 has been great for me since the first nightly.
Autinhyeu seriously? Like RoDrIgUeZsTyLe, or straight MIUI?
Are most functions stable?
baseballfanz I'm glad you've had such luck. Many of us haven't. I'm looking for feedback of others' experiences on which ROMs seem to work the best. I already know which one I'm not using anymore.

Yes, MIUIMOD from Rod
i had use MIUI Stock 4 months ago, then i use CM 7 nightly build, and now, i comeback MIUI with MIUIMOD ROM, after a week use, with some tutorial, i think its best for my phone at the moment, hehe... some user dont want use MIUI, because it like as iOS but i dont care, it gives me comfort & i use it...
With MIUIMOD, you will have more than free Internal memory and RAM memory...
anyway, i saw dont more difference between the CM7 and MIUI, you can choice
With CM all I had to do was wipe and use Amon Ra to flash zip.
There are no instructions with RoDrIgUeZsTyLe except "MIUIMOD D2SD HowTo", which only seems to do with partitioning. Do partitions actually need to be changed, and if so why?
How to apply the ROM and why aren't there instructions?
Also he says, " (Please Read the D2SD HowTo)", but there's no link and a search doesn't turn it up.
MIUI is pretty good
Which one? I've found four so far, including one that seems to have Chinese buttons.

You should definitely go for QND MIUI
Used it from the beginning and I'm loving it. It's stock MIUI with XJ's multilanguage pack, so it's just like MIUI is supposed to be. No junk or ugly themes added
I also get the delayed connection when I answer calls but besides that CM7 is the best there is.Some debate MIUI is better but its a matter of the individuals likes/dislikes. Also the themes and control of customization on CM7 IMO by far surpasses any other rom out there currently so you should prolly stick w/ CM. Hopefully the next stable release fixes the bugs your speaking of
Mouse I've been patient with CM since version 5, and I am fed up.
The good news is I am really digging this MIUIMod. Seems much more modern, smooth, and usable than CM. Have just now gotten things set up so it remains to be seen how well things work, but the camera is sure better and that's a biggie for me.
Takes forever to boot (no big deal) and I am missing my Galaxy wallpaper, but I am:

flash away then and see what one you like the best thats what its all about...i would just use stock miui from either here or miui-dev if you are that finicky about roms
I just have so much to set up that it takes about a day. This is one thing that was so irritating abut CM; in order to correct atrocious usability bugs I'd have to completely reinstall each month and start all over again. I started with Rodriguez today and that's fine so far except for the lack of Galaxy wallpaper. Still have alot to learn about MIUI. Lucky it's Saturday...
You could always to CM6.x if you like CM's features.

So much has been fixed and improved in the latest cyan nightlies over 7.0.3 that you prob should try that out first.
Have you given any of eVilD's sense roms? NXSense and NXSense HD have been working pretty well for me, although nobody can beat MIUI battery life and cuatomuzability
Haven't checked out the Sense ROMs.
MIUI is very nice so far. Desktops rotate like a cube and other nice effects. It's like a 21st century iPhone except without the restrictions, not a 20th century Windows-like CM phone. And I've found the Galaxy wallpaper in the market. My desktops are games|multimedia|default|appts/calendar|utilities. There is no launcher place where all the apps are; all apps are on desktops, but you can put apps inside a folder app which is very handy. Those apps I use are on desktops, those I rarely use are in Apps, Utilities, Multimedia, and Unused folders. No more screenshot app needed; it's Menu:VolDown now.
GPS still has problems, and still some things I haven't figured out. I need to put contacts into folders in the contacts app. With CM I'd put them into one contact and change the label to Custom with their name in it. That is only simulating folders though. Wish there were a better way or an app that could handle folders. Edit: Hey, Contacts has something called Groups, which just may be the ticket! Experimenting.
Does anyone know why DroidWall is no longer in the Market? That is my most valued app to keep out G**gle's prying eyes.
Hey guys,
I have a prob, cauz I dont know, which rom I should choose from the giant amount atm.
My actual FW is Ficeto's Base Rom JVT or so. But it doesnt run like I want it so I'm searchin bout 2 weeks for a good rom. But now there are again some new roms, that were leaked or released.
So should I wait for them, cauz user say, that the rom is much better than JVT?
Do you have a personally prefered Rom you would recommend to me?
I want a nice and smooth experience with my phone without havin to fight with FC's and unfinished Looks :/ And is there a really good way to backup my apps? I did hear somethin about the titanium backup or so, but I dont really know what to do^^
I also thought about switching to CM7 and use TW4.5 cause I really like the surface but otherwise CM7 doesnt have some nice apps, which I like from samsung like the music player and the calendar. :/ But I saw in one of the MIUI-Threads, that someone added the tw-framework to the CM-based rom, but I dont know, if the dev also added some apps from samsung :?
so, thx and hopin for your replies

Titanium Backup is exactly what you're looking for. And it's simple: open Titanium Backup, go to the second tab at the top (Backup/Restore), click on any app and then click either Backup or Restore, depending on what you want to do. Also, if you press menu on the main screen, there's an option called "Batch"—and this will, with one click, backup/restore any critera of apps (for example, backup all my user apps, or restore all my system apps). Also, please note that when you're changing firmwares (for example, Samsung to CM7) DO NOT restore the app's data—only restore the app. Otherwise you risks annoying force closes.

I don't mind the apps at all. Plus, there's usually more suitable ones on the market anyways. If you want Samsung apps, simply use Samsung firmware; otherwise, you have plenty of choices. Also, could you link me to the person saying they have Samsung's firmware in a CM-based ROM?
Hope I helped. There's really a lot of options for ROMs. But you'll have to try some for yourself to find out.

I think Malcho recently said the best most reliable is Darky 10.2, I would suggest it, i dont remember having force closes, but its worth a try. Being on Ficeto base im sure you are accustomed to their website...
If that doesn't appeal, then i suggest you search for stock roms...

Darky's ROM is like stock with a few tweaks (available all over this board) thrown into it. If it wasn't stable, there would be a problem. I wouldn't really recommend it, but if you're not wanting to stray far from stock, it'd be alright.
@upichie:
I have been using darkys rom since version 5.0 or somethin like that In this time I also tried some roms, like CM7 and docs rom, if I remember correctly. but the performance of Darkys Rom was the best at those good times before.
But after all the new roms released like JVS and JVT the perfomance of the phone was not very good after some time. Well, thats why I want to change my rom.
I also checked this thread out, some time ago.
But I could choose the right one of the roms. Actually I want to have the SGS2 feeling, but Wtf, settings have forced-close, video player doesnt even work.
I thought already about to flash this rom and replace the brocken apps with the sgs1-versions Maybe it would work. But I just do some brainstorming.
The main question about CM7 is:
Does this rom really consume so much energy? Cauz I actually wanna use my phone at least for 2 days without recharging it all the time
@talon:
Well, I'm not registered on darkys site, but I actually visit it sometimes, if I want to check out, of there is a new base rom, which runs smoother than mine. But in the last time there havent been any updates so far :/
So, thanx for the answers, I may will upgrade to CM7 in the next few days Have to take a closer look on the installing instructions Before, it was kinda difficult and just had to many annoying steps to get to your goal
best regards
alex
Well i'm using CM7 and im generally getting approx 2 days out of it, which is more than what i used to get on others... I think it's worth a try, im having some camera trouble, such as if i choose a setting like text, when i try take a picture it force closes. I have not looked into this as it hasn't been a huge issue, so it may only be me.
For CM7 installation, i have the link below which i used. He makes it sound like a huge deal but it isn't really (entertaining for sure! )
Ficeto has released 10.2 RE, that was a few months ago, but i remember reading that there were very few if not zero issues with that. (Not sure if this JVP base rom is after or before..)
Hello all
So basically, I've never been settled on a ROM, why? Because all of them gotta have one or more bugs that can't help but abandon it.
In general, I just hate how 80% of all cooked ROMs DO NOT support Video Calling via CDMA
in here are some details:
CM7/7.2 is awesome but it drains battery pretty fast and Video Recording doesn't work for me "it glitches" so i ditched it.
CM9/10 briefly.. They AREN'T stable. How? It might suddenly turn off and show you a bootloop or maybe a kernel get wrecked! that happens every week for me so I ditched this one.
AOKPs the're cool and amazingly fast, battery's life is great! and I just love em but for example. the best AOKP imo is XI9000 ROM but too bad that the Google Play Store is kinda retarded in this ROM "unable to find Facebook, YouTube, Thumb.. etc..in an inside search" I dunno if that applies to all AOKPs. Plus it might wreck when battery runs out xD
Gingerbreads! are just not suitable for a 2012 use! and STOCK ones are majorly slow on my device
So i'm gonna sum this all up by asking some couple of questions:
1- How to keep your ROM stability!, and how to avoid getting it wrecked?!

It's really weird that you're having issues with any ROM.
Using JB atm I flashed a stock 2.3.6, CM9 (TeamHacksung's build 16) twice and Mackay ROM afterwards and it's really stable for me. I don't see how your phone would just turn off or some other stuff.
Do you modify it much (undervolting, etc)?

What do u mean by the underlined sentence? I don't flash more than ONE zip file at a time!
He means two times in a row. Some recommend it, and sometimes it's necessary when flashing a rom with a different partition layout.
I think your issues either come from not flashing properly, or not spending enough time to learn about how processes work.
No offense intended, really, but this is a developer forum, and while most of us cannot ornament ourselves with that title, it is expected of us to read up on how everything works and spend some time working out basic issues ourselves.
For example, if you experience lag, fc or other unexplainable issues with a rom where few have the same problems, you should take the time and start flashing jvu with Odin and going down that road until you've got a clean install. Most people will just pass judgements and decide that the rom is buggy.
Not saying that you do this or that, but from your op it seems like you spend more time annoying yourself than trying to fix the issues
