I've always been used to the T9 predictive text of the symbian phones but I just can't find anything that works just as well. The closest I've got is 'Black Bolts' but it is very laggy and doesn't seem to use the inbuilt dictionary. I cannot get 'better keyboard' to work on gingerbread and I can't use the swype type keyboards. Can anyone suggest anything?
Regards
Steve
Try Swiftkey Keyboard. I found it great. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
search for "htc ime" - it's a port of the htc keyboard and works perfect.
Swiftkey FTW.

Hi all, just got the diamond last week, damn its nice, just the battery life sucks.
I used to own a UK T-Mobile Mda 3, loved the calender as i change shifts a lot, was looking to replace it a few months back heard tell of the diamond so decided to wait.......however...
The sms full keyboard on my old MDA3 used to allow predictive words (t9 i think) but the diamond does not seem to, I like the keyboard layout over the qwerty or comapct qwerty as they both take up too much for the screen for my taste.
The t9 does not seem to work in the keybaord layout, i think i have all the settings correct, as it works in the other 2 setups but not keybaord.
also, is there a website that lists all the compatible 6.1 programs? not sure what i want, but more like teeter would be nice, or even a different sms prog that allows predictive text!!
Cheers

The same for me. T9 works only using qwerty layout. If you use keyboard layout predictive text doesn't work. Someone has an idea ? My rom is 1.37 from HTC official italian.
Thanks in advance

Found it ! Thanks to newtonmj in modaco forum
You must chaange the registry key XT9SupportMSSip in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\ from '0' to '1'.
This allows the predictive text to work correctly in standard keyboard too.
I don't know if this mod can "damage" other settings but I don't think. It allows the predictive input to work using microsoft standard keyboard. In my device now works !

Very nice. I think I'll try it. But I wanted that worked correctly standard keyboard without adding third part software. What is standard in my device MUST work correctly. Then perhaps I'll not use it, but this is another thing
I'm paranoic. But I can't accept that a phone worth about 500€ does't go in the appropriate way......
For a week I am a lucky owner of the Xperia X1. And it is everything I thought it would be!
But I have a question about the T9 function.
The Touch Pro suggest words (and has a T9 function also?) when entering text with the keyboard, is that also possible with the Xperia?

To a certain extent, it can suggest up to 4 words (or possibly more if you edit the registry) and that's enabled via the Options menu for the keyboard SIP. Personally I feel the Xperia's implementation of the autocomplete and especially autocorrect isn't nearly as robust as the Touch Pro, but something's better than nothing.
You can still install the Touch Pro On-Screen keyboard and T9 if you don't like the X1 default T9.
But does that improve the autocorrect/autocomplete functionality for the hardware keyboard? I read somewhere that installing that will actually disable whatever autocorrect/autocomplete feature that's currently on the Xperia.

no it'll break the autocomplete function when using hardware keyboard.
the only thing i dont like about my X1 is the difficulty in SMS text messaging
is the on screen keyboard you guys are referring to the same as the on screen touch panel when you go to dial a phone number?
the same as 'traditional' phone keyboards?
if so, where can i download this function at?
many thanks
Ross
Yea, but why use a software touch keyboard when u got a nice hardware keyboard to work around with?
I find the hardware keyboard much more of us. And one of the reasons I (we?) brought the Xperia because of his hardware keyboard.
i do like the hard keyboard, but the thing i loved about my older SE phones was i could use the T9 predictive text, and text very fast and effortlessly using the predictive testing and the traditional keys, where as with this, sending a SMS is quite an effort!
so is there an on screen keypad the same as when you press the receiver button and see the keypad?

LOL... I spent ages trying to find the perfect soft keyboard for my device after losing the ability to use my favourite (PPCLink HiKeyboard) because of screen incompatibility. THEN it dawned on me! I actually have a hardware keyboard, I just forget it's there sometimes DOH!

Did anyone find this yet?
I saw something about being able to access a t9 phonepad when using the chinese keyboard but it wouldn't work on my x10 and I loathe the qwerty boards on this phone.

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone else really liked the new stock IME included in Froyo.
I tried swype, SwiftKeys and the Htc IME, but I just keep coming back to the stock froyo keyboard.
With the new two rows of pop-up keys and the ease of switching languages, I find it to be the easiest to use. Definitely more intelligent than the iPhone keyboard.
Only problem I have when compared to typing on the iPhone is that it will miss keys if I type too fast, but all the ime I've tried do that. It's likely more of a touchscreen issue there.
Just curious if other people were enjoying it as well.
The one problem I have is the fact that it doesn't support the Canadian French keyboard layout. Typing in azerty is just terrible! Lots of bug reports in to Google on that point, but no movement yet.
if swype didn't cut it I really don't know what will, smart keyboard is really good and fast try it if you haven't already.
and to answer your question, I honestly loath it. but you see that's the beauty of android, if you don't like anything just change it lol.
I keep coming back to it also, does exactly what I want it too and is easy to use, used swype on my old windows mobile phone but see no need for it here. the text predicition means I rarely type near the full word.
In portrait mode I use swype, while in landscape mode I use the stock keyboard. Does anyone know any light half-qwerty keyboard for portrait use? I tried HTC_IME but it had that little bug that wouldn't register the word "IF". I wonder if it still exists in the latest version. Also is there an original HTC_IME lying around somewhere? I want something light and not as heavy as the modded one.
Tried Swype once.. not for me.
Been on stock ever since coz it's allright...
I can't get away from the HTC IME keyboard cause it has T9 standard keypad, and I'm just so much faster typing on that.
Tried Swype a while ago. But since FroYo I've been very happy with stock...Especially in landscape.

I like it. I use HTC ime too but I use stock alot. The reason you're more accurate on iPhone is probably because of its genius unseen system whereby it predicts the next letter you're going to type and resizes all of the keys' pressable areas based on the odds they will be selected. The greater the odds the bigger the pressing area. If the stock android KB implemented that it would be perfect. Thick keys is similar but not very good so I'm guessing there might not be a copyright issue. I know android indicated its awareness that the android kb needs a lot of work so maybe gingerbread will bring some enhancements...
Hey all
i am looking for some nice keyboards apart from swype
some thing like what ever i speak , it whould enter it in form of text
is there any such keyboard abailable?
Hiho, i've searched already if i can find a thread like this, but i didn't.
So for my and maybe your interest, which Keyboard do you use?
Samsung, Gingerbread, Swype?
Thanks
p.s. the version depends on the choseable keyboards, because on below 2.3 you dont have Gingerbread Keyboard...
SlideIT on 2.3.3
Since getting my SGS, always used Swype. Tried using the GB keyboard but just keep going back to Swype.
I don't use any of the above mentioned keyboards. I use Better Keyboard 8.
I use the Samsung keyboard that's enough for me
Gingerbread keyboard is available for 2.2

I also vote for swype.
I like the suggestions from the gingerbread keyboard though, the swype suggestions dialog is really obstrusive, that's the only thing I've got against it.
But I keep going back to swype since it predicts what I want to write with great accuracy and I end up writing a lot faster with it.
BTW my main language is spanish, and it works like a charm with it.
Swype all the way. Haven't even tried any other keyboard yet.
It's so convinient
Swype 2.3+ , i get annoyed when i flash roms and the samsung kb is there.
can't beat swype i reckon, using a normal touch keyboard to press every single button is so tedious now and swype is way faster once u get used to it
Smart Keyboard Pro with personnal skin
I'm in love with swype, it's the best keyboard I've ever used. One thing I didn't like with it, it saves every entry I tap, other than this I'm so happy with it

i thought samsung keyboard is really fast but ill test swype now too... this popup often bothered me in typing very quick, but maybe after learning many words it'll be quick
thx to all =)
I use swype. Nothing quite as satisfying as swyping out your whole email address in less than a second
It's also great for making sure nosy people can't peak at your passwords when you have trail off.
