Ok I've been reading forums and stuff on market about programs such as pandahome or betterbox. I am interested in actually designing my own in like and adobe ills, and photoshop. How do I assign an icon to a certain app?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
You can use desktop visualizer, bettercut, launcher pro, etc. and assign the icons if you just want to keep them in a file in your SD card. Or you can swap out the images in the apk files.
The first option is much more common and will allow you to easily share your icons easily if you choose and you won't have to mess with the apks every time an app updates.
Ok great have the desktop app, so create an icon save to sd then just use the app to assign?

Yep, that's it.

I have a good number of games installed and they really clutter up my apps slider so I was wondering is there any way to put all the games in a folder to make things a little neater? I have tried and I could not find a good answer to this question so please do not yell at me if this has been asked before because I did look.
Thank you,
Ethan
There is no way to manipulate the app drawer to add folders to it. At least that I know of.

Look up Advanced Launcher.
You can create folders in the app drawer and hide apps as well.
With the atk app there is a widget you can place on the home screen that when pressed, instantly kills the active apps. The problem is, its kind of small and looks out of place with my theme, but I cant seem to find a way to change it. I'd like to be able to use a custom icon with desktop visualizer or something to be able to activate the widget's functions, but I can't figure it out.
ps, I don't want this to turn into a debate about whether or not to use a task killer, try to stay on topic.

You really don't need an app..... joking.
I've REALLY been wanting to know this as well. Likewise, it does not fit my theme or icons at all. It's the only out of place icon throughout all my homescreens.
I am also trying to do this, so I should probably add to the list of people and hopefully someone has a solution.
I'm using ADW and tried the custom shortcut but I can't find the activity that carries out what the widget does.
Any of the task manager activities just bring me into the app, rather than a direct autokill.
Also, I don't know if there is an android system activity for it, because I can't seem to find that either.
That's all I can contribute from my efforts anyway..
you'd have to do an adb decomile or winrar whatever then change the icon for the widget and resign the file. there are already versions floating around where people have done this already do some looking around...
Really? I've searched and came up with nothing, just back to here really, or other people asking the same thing..
If you had a link then that'd be handy, if not then thanks for the hint on a starting point..
I can change the icon for any application!

Even for a widget action?

Yes,man!I already did different icons for widget actions!
I've done this before. All you need to do is rename the .apk to .zip and open it in your PC. Navigate to the icon image, replace with yours, rename the zip to apk push it to /system/app, fix permissions... dunsky.

I never thought of that, I'll do that now..
And while you're here, you might know..
since you can't put a widget in a dock bar, is there way to assign the same widget function to a desktop shortcut?
Similar to the activities in adw launcher..

Is there a tweak or setting I can adjust so the names of apps on my desktop shows its full name rather than a fading-cutoff?
+1
Also wondering about this and the ability to maybe give a shortened name to an app on our homescreen.

Have you tried Go Launcher? It's similar to Launcher Pro, but it's free and you can rename applications on the home screens.

With Launcher Pro you have to use SQLite Editor. There's a free one for Windows, but can't think of the name right now. Use Root Explorer to grab /data/data/com.fede.launcher/databases/launcher.db
In Favorites you'll find all the titles. Just rename, save and replace the file. Do a backup first in case anything goes wrong.
Launcher pro always asks if you want to use a custom name when adding to the desktop for me though I choose to hide them altogether.
Also, iirc bettercut and desktop visualizer can do this quite easily.

I open the app drawer and just press and hold the icon, and add it that way. I just tried the way you described, and it was really slow to load.
I guess depending on how lazy I am, will depend on which method I use.
@mistaken
I occasionally see the slow load time for app list on the first use though it is not nearly as bad as it used to be.
i recently downloaded a app called launcher icon and dock. i saved a lot of icon form it. and it all appear in the gallery. i can hardly find my camera folder.
how can i just hide all the icon in the gallery.(it make 1 icon 1 folder...)
i tried to use Linux file type with "." it works but all apps that is changed icon is affected, to back to original icon.
Are the files on your sd card?

Did you try putting a file called .nomedia in the folder where the icons are stored. That will exclude the files from the gallery. It will also exclude sub folders.

thanks for help, but it doesn't work...
You could switch to a different pic viewer, like Quickpic. It allows you to exclude folders from scanning. However, in the stock gallery, it still scans them. I also saw an app on the market that supposedly hides pics. I haven't tried it, so i couldn't tell you if it works.

I thought this app was just ok. I didn't like the fact that you could not customize the quick links on the left side. For example, my movies and music folders are on my SD Card, but when you click the links, it takes you to the internal memory.
I just downloaded yesterday. Really like it. I use rootexplorer for the more serious stuff, but this is much more pleasing to use, the interface is great
Good app but needs paid version sure it will pop up sooner than later

I noticed you can't delete from this app. Is anyone else having this problem?

I just tried it. Moved a file from one folder to another. It was corrupted after the move. Deleted the app. Back to Root Explorer for me. It may not have as much eye candy, but I much prefer the functionality.

I do however like the look and feel.

Looks good and works good. Just replaced astro.

You can delete. Use edit then delete or long press a file, then edit, then delete. Or press the multi button at the top and batch delete multiple files at once.

This is actually pretty cool looking. But it is definitely going to be tough to not use RootExplorer.

You can bookmark folders by long pressing on them and the folders you bookmark will be on the left side as quick links.
By far the best interface and functionality I've seen on any similiar app, very close to windows explorer imo
Does it have root access, have not played with it much?
It's pretty but I like the functionality of ES File Explorer better.
i like it much better than astro..... i hope he adds root access like root explorer...then it would be perfect
i removed both astro and ES once they added Lan support and fixed the "move" feature. ES would work sometimes with LAN, but not all the time, and it had no "move" option, just "copy". I havent had any negative experiences using LAN on FM HD. There was one issue that i discovered recently, i tried to send a cbr file via bluetooth, but when i clicked on "share" the option wasnt there. But its there for all other types of files.
They are pretty quick at fixing issues. Two days after i mentioned the "move" issue (when you move a file, it would take really long, and it shouldnt because it was being moved within the same device, i.e. when you move a file on your c: drive to somewhere else on your c drive, it goes in an instant, even with Astro, moving was simple), but anyway, two days later, the issue was fixed.
Its a great file browser for the xoom.
