Are the files on your sd card?

Did you try putting a file called .nomedia in the folder where the icons are stored. That will exclude the files from the gallery. It will also exclude sub folders.

thanks for help, but it doesn't work...
You could switch to a different pic viewer, like Quickpic. It allows you to exclude folders from scanning. However, in the stock gallery, it still scans them. I also saw an app on the market that supposedly hides pics. I haven't tried it, so i couldn't tell you if it works.

My gallery is picking up every single folder that I have with images in it for some reason. I define the folder as hidden but it still picks it up. Even when moving pictures from one folder to another, it sometimes takes days to see the change in the gallery, even after media scans...
I am running Cognition v3.02, could this be a problem with my rom?

1. If u want no app to pick up media from any folder, create an empty file in it and name it ".nomedia".
2. If u want gallery only not to pick, rename the folder to start with a ".".gallery skips looking into folders beginning with a ".".
If u put the .nomedia file it wont be picked by any app, not just gallery.

Make a text file, rename it to .nomedia and place it in any folder you don't want scanned by media scanner.
I see some 1 near me to it
I already renamed the folders that I didn't want it to find and put a "." In front of it, but it finds them anyway.
Ill try the .nomedia thing and see if it works

This is getting ridiculous... I even tried downloading an app meant to hide files from the gallery, but nothing is working.
Does anyone have a solution?

I believe you misunderstood. You don't put the files IN the .nomedia folder, you go to the location where the files are and make a .nomedia folder in there.
For example, say you have some icons in a folder that is named "icons". Us My Files or Astro to open that folder so you can see all those files, press the menu button, create new folder, name it ".nomedia" without quotes, rescan.
That should take care of it. When you're done, it should be:
.nomedia(folder with nothing in it!)
image.jpeg
image.png
song.mp3
This screenshot is an example of what it should look like.
And if you just have certain pictures or files or icons that you don't want to show up, but are in the same folder, easiest way to do it is to create a new folder and move all files that you don't want visible into that folder, and within that folder make a .nomedia folder and rescan.

Lagfix fixes this up quite a bit! Also, depends on the r/w speed of your SD card I believe. Mine is a Class 2 and it is so slow, so now I put all Media on my Internal SD now. External is for all my music.

are you creating a blank file with no extension called .nomedia and placing it inside each folder where pics exist you dont want in the gallery?

Yes. I'm starting to think my gallery is just messed up. The pictures I hide show up but if I try and view them it shows a blank screen for most of them.

Is there a way to keep some photos hidden but still keep them on the device? I will typically let people go through my pics especially my 3 year old but there are pics of other things that I don't want him or others to see.......
So, what is the best option?
Vaulty will hide them but it doesn't encrypt them. It just changes the file extension so the phone can't read it. But it would take a bit of a guru to look that far into finding your pics and will most likely be sufficient for you.
I personally use it.

Trying to hide those Scarlett Johansson pics, are we?
No, much much filtier
You can put a .nomedia file in any folders you don't want scanned by the gallery app, most other apps will skip these folders too, though some have an option to allow you to see them when you want. It won't encrypt them and they'll still be visible to file explorers though.

Hide it pro works great. And its free. Once you hide it, delete the pix out of your gallery. You can even hide apps.

look up "photovault" in the market.

As ind3p3nd3ntsaid, Should be able to drop a file named ".nomedia" into the folder you want hidden from media players and galleries. Has always worked fine for me.

How are you supposed to create this file without linux? Windows wouldn't let me do it.
I did it on my phone, just find a random text file, make a copy of it to desired location and rename it to .nomedia

I like this method, definitely going to try it out. I'm pretty sure none of my friends like to go rummaging around in my file browser... and if they do they will perish!
MY XZ keeps pulling pics from whatsapp into the ALBUM app on XZ..how to stop that?
There'll be a bunch of folders on the storage area, you need to put a blank file called " .nomedia " in there to stop it from looking in that folder.

It only work if you using quickpic to view picture, stock album apps still showing the content from whatapps.
This is a big security bug from SONY..Why does no one complain about it?
No one is complaining because it's not the fault of Sony. Whatsapp is the problem here not Sony or the lack of complaints.

is there any other solution to this up to date???
its really annoying...
I wish there was some way to exclude folders from view in the stock album viewer also.
You can download a hacked version of whatsapp and it has an option to disable that. On top of that, the photos you upload are not compressed, so it's the full hd photo when others download it.
I think it's called whatsapp plus or +

Just for the record the problem also happens on Galaxy phones, this isn't a sony problem it's a whatapp problem.
Bless, did you clear media storage app data after creating .nomedia file and restart the phone and wait again to do the scan?? Obviously if you create the file and not reset the media storage index of filed I'll keep loading them.

just copy the .nomedia file from whatsapp\video and try https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS51YmVydWxsdS5yZXNjYW5zZCJd
I think he means that the phone auto download sended pics... Its a whatssapp issue and not a very cool one if you ask me, i downloaded whatsapp plus from androis hacking/apps threat and ticked auto download off!

The gallery downloads pics and videos from FB without asking. Is it possible to delete them? If so where are they stored? I heat 4.2.2 gives you the option to turn the downloads off?

Download es file explorer ( or any file manager that supports "show hidden files" ). On es file explorer, upper left, click that globe-phone logo then on lower right, a settings option will appear then click on display and check the option "show hidden files". The name of the folder wherein those cache are stored is " .data" all blink feed cache and facebook gallery cache are stored there

It doesnt allow you to create folders like that, you have your default photo folder and a sd card folder, but it wont let you create seperate folders. if you want this function, you would have to get an alternative such as quickpic from playstore
