My gallery is picking up every single folder that I have with images in it for some reason. I define the folder as hidden but it still picks it up. Even when moving pictures from one folder to another, it sometimes takes days to see the change in the gallery, even after media scans...
I am running Cognition v3.02, could this be a problem with my rom?

1. If u want no app to pick up media from any folder, create an empty file in it and name it ".nomedia".
2. If u want gallery only not to pick, rename the folder to start with a ".".gallery skips looking into folders beginning with a ".".
If u put the .nomedia file it wont be picked by any app, not just gallery.

Make a text file, rename it to .nomedia and place it in any folder you don't want scanned by media scanner.
I see some 1 near me to it
I already renamed the folders that I didn't want it to find and put a "." In front of it, but it finds them anyway.
Ill try the .nomedia thing and see if it works

Placed some files in a ".nomedia" folder but the gallery is still picking them up, even after a rescan.

This is getting ridiculous... I even tried downloading an app meant to hide files from the gallery, but nothing is working.
Does anyone have a solution?

I believe you misunderstood. You don't put the files IN the .nomedia folder, you go to the location where the files are and make a .nomedia folder in there.
For example, say you have some icons in a folder that is named "icons". Us My Files or Astro to open that folder so you can see all those files, press the menu button, create new folder, name it ".nomedia" without quotes, rescan.
That should take care of it. When you're done, it should be:
.nomedia(folder with nothing in it!)
image.jpeg
image.png
song.mp3
This screenshot is an example of what it should look like.
And if you just have certain pictures or files or icons that you don't want to show up, but are in the same folder, easiest way to do it is to create a new folder and move all files that you don't want visible into that folder, and within that folder make a .nomedia folder and rescan.

Lagfix fixes this up quite a bit! Also, depends on the r/w speed of your SD card I believe. Mine is a Class 2 and it is so slow, so now I put all Media on my Internal SD now. External is for all my music.

Still did not work. I made a new folder and out images in it, but after a rescan AND a reboot, gallery still has them showing.

are you creating a blank file with no extension called .nomedia and placing it inside each folder where pics exist you dont want in the gallery?

Yes. I'm starting to think my gallery is just messed up. The pictures I hide show up but if I try and view them it shows a blank screen for most of them.

It seems that this phone, like many others, has a Gallery app that finds every damn picture imaginable on your device and tries to load a preview of it. Why can't there just be a certain folder where pictures are stored instead? Is this possible? I don't want my phone to find every picture on my SD card - this is for people who place pics on their phone unknowing of where they put it.
Thanks

Oh, nice solution.. NOT
I found the solution. Create a file in the directory where the pic(s) exist called ".nomedia" and Android will not index/load the images after reboot.

x2, I was about to tell you about this
or just download the QuickPic app from the Market - it's free and allows you to move, share, hide and all kinds of other functions Gallery doesn't do.
I noticed that my Gallery app is showing I have no "albums" or anything. Up til now, it automatically added folders when I saved a pic, and it had a folder of pics I had on my SD2 card. Unfortunately this also affected the Multi Wallpaper App that I use. Any suggestions?
I am using Tnt 4.3.2.

There have been reported issues all over in regards to media getting deleted on the sd cards. so far IMHO is to create a blank .nomedia file on both the root AND your media folder (just to cover all basis). It has seemed to work for me so far and another tab that I get to work on.
basically use whatever file explorer you use and create a 'new file' and call it .nomedia (dot - nomedia) and that should cover it.
Hope that helps some.
Thanks for the suggestions. But unfortunately, they did not work. Let me give you some more symptoms....
The pics are still on the storage cards. I can see then with my file app. When I try to open one of the pics, jpegs, Gallery will open it, but very slowly... thinking first, going to a blank screen, and then a few seconds later, displaying the file. If I choose to view it with ESFile Explorer, the pic comes up almost immediately. It's almost as if Gallery is unable to acknowledge the existence of the files unless forced to.

I have never gotten photos to show up in gallery. I use JustPictures and it works great. It works with pics on the device and any online services.
.nomedia solution works great

Are the files on your sd card?

Did you try putting a file called .nomedia in the folder where the icons are stored. That will exclude the files from the gallery. It will also exclude sub folders.

thanks for help, but it doesn't work...
You could switch to a different pic viewer, like Quickpic. It allows you to exclude folders from scanning. However, in the stock gallery, it still scans them. I also saw an app on the market that supposedly hides pics. I haven't tried it, so i couldn't tell you if it works.
HI
Just got this phone.
Trying to understand how the My Albums work.

It doesnt allow you to create folders like that, you have your default photo folder and a sd card folder, but it wont let you create seperate folders. if you want this function, you would have to get an alternative such as quickpic from playstore

Thanks everyone I found the solution :-S After update if app the album tab was empty, all back to good after clearing cache
I remember this being a quirk with the Note 3. If you organize apps into folders on the app screen (not the home screen), they will be forgotten and ejected from the folders unless you click Save or Done after adding them rather than pushing back, even though it appears they're still in the folders.
Now I'm having this problem with the Note 4, but I can't find the trick to getting it to remember folder contents, as there's no Done or Save on the Edit screen.

I created a bunch of folders and only had that problem with one of them. I had to delete it and create it again and then it stopped ejecting the apps.

Solution: Do not use the plus sign inside the folders, or the apps will fall out of the folders when you reboot. Instead, press “Edit,” and drag and drop the apps into the folders. This will keep the apps inside the folders. Honest. It worked for me.
