My gallery is picking up every single folder that I have with images in it for some reason. I define the folder as hidden but it still picks it up. Even when moving pictures from one folder to another, it sometimes takes days to see the change in the gallery, even after media scans...
I am running Cognition v3.02, could this be a problem with my rom?

1. If u want no app to pick up media from any folder, create an empty file in it and name it ".nomedia".
2. If u want gallery only not to pick, rename the folder to start with a ".".gallery skips looking into folders beginning with a ".".
If u put the .nomedia file it wont be picked by any app, not just gallery.

Make a text file, rename it to .nomedia and place it in any folder you don't want scanned by media scanner.
I see some 1 near me to it
I already renamed the folders that I didn't want it to find and put a "." In front of it, but it finds them anyway.
Ill try the .nomedia thing and see if it works

This is getting ridiculous... I even tried downloading an app meant to hide files from the gallery, but nothing is working.
Does anyone have a solution?

I believe you misunderstood. You don't put the files IN the .nomedia folder, you go to the location where the files are and make a .nomedia folder in there.
For example, say you have some icons in a folder that is named "icons". Us My Files or Astro to open that folder so you can see all those files, press the menu button, create new folder, name it ".nomedia" without quotes, rescan.
That should take care of it. When you're done, it should be:
.nomedia(folder with nothing in it!)
image.jpeg
image.png
song.mp3
This screenshot is an example of what it should look like.
And if you just have certain pictures or files or icons that you don't want to show up, but are in the same folder, easiest way to do it is to create a new folder and move all files that you don't want visible into that folder, and within that folder make a .nomedia folder and rescan.

Lagfix fixes this up quite a bit! Also, depends on the r/w speed of your SD card I believe. Mine is a Class 2 and it is so slow, so now I put all Media on my Internal SD now. External is for all my music.

Yes. I'm starting to think my gallery is just messed up. The pictures I hide show up but if I try and view them it shows a blank screen for most of them.

Are the files on your sd card?

Did you try putting a file called .nomedia in the folder where the icons are stored. That will exclude the files from the gallery. It will also exclude sub folders.

thanks for help, but it doesn't work...
You could switch to a different pic viewer, like Quickpic. It allows you to exclude folders from scanning. However, in the stock gallery, it still scans them. I also saw an app on the market that supposedly hides pics. I haven't tried it, so i couldn't tell you if it works.
MY XZ keeps pulling pics from whatsapp into the ALBUM app on XZ..how to stop that?
There'll be a bunch of folders on the storage area, you need to put a blank file called " .nomedia " in there to stop it from looking in that folder.

It only work if you using quickpic to view picture, stock album apps still showing the content from whatapps.
This is a big security bug from SONY..Why does no one complain about it?
No one is complaining because it's not the fault of Sony. Whatsapp is the problem here not Sony or the lack of complaints.

is there any other solution to this up to date???
its really annoying...
I wish there was some way to exclude folders from view in the stock album viewer also.
You can download a hacked version of whatsapp and it has an option to disable that. On top of that, the photos you upload are not compressed, so it's the full hd photo when others download it.
I think it's called whatsapp plus or +

Just for the record the problem also happens on Galaxy phones, this isn't a sony problem it's a whatapp problem.
Bless, did you clear media storage app data after creating .nomedia file and restart the phone and wait again to do the scan?? Obviously if you create the file and not reset the media storage index of filed I'll keep loading them.

just copy the .nomedia file from whatsapp\video and try https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS51YmVydWxsdS5yZXNjYW5zZCJd

I think he means that the phone auto download sended pics... Its a whatssapp issue and not a very cool one if you ask me, i downloaded whatsapp plus from androis hacking/apps threat and ticked auto download off!

Hi all, I am from Mauritius and is a happy owner of the Note 1. Friday while trying to review the pictures and video I took few hours ago, my phone says media scanning, like 4 times. I switched it off and on again.
All pictures and video in my gallery were gone!! only received files were here, like downloaded pics, viber or whats app pics.
I am so desperate as I did videos of my daughter's 1st school show on it...I didn't sleep for 2 days trying to find a solution.
Anyone can PLEASE help me:crying: And I have no external memory on the phone I have only been using the internal one.
Do you use any application to stop media scan?, or maybe you have some corrupted media file on your sd.. Download app from play store to restart media scanner service.. Try this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dcd.scanmedia

Or try wipe cache and data of gallery and media scan using its own application manager. Restart phone and let it scan again.

Thanks How do i do that please?
Connect to pc and check if the picture/video are there in DCIM folder.
If they have gone then download free windows file recovery like Recuva.
Enable usb utilities in setting
Scan your phone(which is now removeable storage) for deleted file

Hello Everyone!
This is my first post here, so sorry if I do something wrong. I'll learn from my mistakes.
Ok, so I have a Xperia Z1 and yesterday I used the Gracenote (build in app) to get information of all my music (around 500 songs). Well, the problem is that out of all my 500 (mp3 songs) 400 are Romanian songs. And this Gracenote app put wrong covers, names and all that stuff to my music.
Then, I deleted all my music and put it back to the z1, and unfortunately it did not work.
My question is:
How can I delete all the data that this service (Gracenote) put on my device? because all my songs are now ruined.
If its a system app you will have to root to delete it. Use titanium backup.
If not, then goto system/apps and delete it there. You should be able to delete all app data and caches from there as well.

I think OP does not want to delete Gracenote. He wants to delete the Gracenote info.
Maybe OP can clear the app data and cache for the walkman app and see if it works?

Thank you for your answers. I can not find any info on my system about this Gracenote software/app. I would have deleted it but I can't find anything at all, and yes Beautyspin...I just want to delete the info of it. I hope there is a way of doing that without rooting the device...
Thanks anyways all your answers guys. So my problem is still not solved (

Under Settings -> Apps -> All, there's a Download music info app. Perhaps you can try clearing the data and cache for that app. Not sure if that's Gracenote though.

This is soooooo annoying...how could Sony agree to have an app like this?...They basically force me to do a factory reset (that will probably fix it)...but I don't want to do that...

On my laptop it does not say anything at all about this gracenote app, when I go to music info on the laptop it shows what it should show, I mean the real album covers/names. If I go in the folders where each album is, everything is fine...put when I put them back to my z1 (after deleting them from z1) ...they come back with the album cover/names that Gracenote put to them.

OK, I do suggest you root and delete the app.
How does it look in the Walkman app?
Here you can see where how the app looks, you go in it by
WALKMAN -> Settings -> Download music info
Not what I meant.
How does your album art look when you play music in Walkman app? Is it correct or is it the same as gracenote

Well, it looks wrong, for example...
I have an album of an romanian rapper (Nane - Relaxo) and this app has changed the name and the cover of the album in something related to christmas (The Christmas project) so now, whenever I go there, it says: Random Artist - The Christmas Project..and it's this for almost all of my songs...
If I go into the folder (not thru the Walkman app) it will show correctly, and in the folder I can't see any images added or something like that. This is the same for my z1 and laptop.
