[Q] ROM upgrade problems - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just upgraded from the official optus 2.2 JP5 (i think) to the JVK 2.3.3 (its european) and the rom itself is working perfectly I can call text but can't get a data connection even when roaming is turned on. I also have a 3g symbol up the top which is weird because it's saying i have connection. YES i have selected my APN again when i flashed the rom with odin i didn't flash the CSC and PHONE is this why? i thought they were just for if you live in europe. thanks

yeah i know there are some compatibility issues when you just flash PDA if it doesnt already have a modem and CSC. Its best to just reflash JVK with the modem and csc from JP5 if you dont want to change.
But check your APN setting to see if its correct. I upgraded my brothers phone and I noticed the APN setting was incorrect (was set to internet instead of yesinternet).

[FIX] Bell GT-I9000M users that seem to have lost the 850MHZ WCDMA Band

THIS IS FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE ENTERED THE APN SETTINGS AND CANNOT ACTUALLY CONNECT TO THE 850MHZ BAND
WARNING: FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE WILL WIPE ALL DATA YOUR PHONE (minus the SD Cards)
Flash back to UGJG8 available on samfirmware.com. (Odin 3 + 512 pit)
Open the dialer and enter *#272*xxxx#
The above x's are the current time. So for 2:15pm, you would enter 0215.
Select BMC and then Install.
Wait till the phone reboots.
Your radio should now have the 850mhz band working again.
Feel free to flash back to UGJH2 again.
Just want to add, as long as you flash JUST the code in ODIN you should never lose 850Mhz again after doing this.
Would be nice if we could extract the CSC from the rom and never have to worry about downgrading again if we mess up.
Bumping this as it seems there are still people with the issue...

What is the best way to verify that the phone has lost 850 MHz?
Where does one find the APN settings and where are they entered?
I don't have this issue myself, but it would be very nice if this was a bigger single reference.
EDIT: I missed this, APN settings are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769400
And does Bell use only 850 MHz for 3G?
Not sure if they ONLY use 850MHZ. When I had the issue I had perfect coverage in the city center. But absolutely none on the outskirts where I live. I couldn't even connect to the network for data calls. After a few hours of messing with it to get it back, I tried what's in my original post and thankfully it worked.

In my experience all you have to do is flash any Bell 2.1 rom again via ODIN to restore your America/Aussie radio, I suggest JH2 instead as the OS and Radio are both newer in that build. You can flash whatever 2.1 ROM you want as long as you don't go to a 2.2 radio you will be fine. I know because this was the first thing I did, and basically one of the big reasons I bought this model, so I can flash away all like a regular i9000m just keeping my bell radio. I'm on AT&T and I get HSPDA/HSPUA 24/7.
You can do this on HTC devices, as they usually just release radios by themself to flash alone via stock recovery/clockwork/whatever. So I was glad to see Samsung didn't jack that around and make one rom use a specific radio only. That would have sucked hard, as you can get better service with others.

Myself, and a couple of other people have had the issue where flashing back to UGJH2 simply does not restore the 850MHZ band, hence this thread. I flashed the new HK JP2 and it worked fine. However, I completely lost connectivity to the 850MHZ band. I flashed back to UGJH2, which did not fix it, went back to the new JP2 again, still nothing. After hours of torture, I finally tried the CSC method in UGJG8 and it worked. 850MHZ restored!
Obviously, you've never had the issue where you've had to use this tutorial. When using UGJH2, which I currently am, you cannot use the *#272*xxxx# code. It simply does not work. However, it does work in UGJG8, and lets you select the BMC CSC which is what fixes the problem.
I do however agree that we should always go with the most recent radio, which is why I went back to UGJH2 after fixing my issue in UGJG8.
I def lost 850 mhz band, i flashed to the new Froyo JPC for a few days and it was a disaster, flashed back to UGJ8 now, and installed BMC, looks good
but one thing bothered me, when I put in the code, above the BMC
It said: Sales Code: KOR
Is that normal, or has JPC transformed my phone to a Korean Model permanently (can this be fixed), and what are the effects of this, will I be able to receive the OTA and flash froyo when its out normally?
Thanks

You need the whole rom, CSC and PDA to be able to activate the CSC. Modem shouldn't matter, but I did flash it as well as everything was packaged in a single .tar file for me,
Is it possible to go to XWJM8 without flashing the modem? Or, is there another compatible Bell modem that can be used instead?
I flashed the XXJM4 modem and I'm pretty sure I lost 850MHz.

I flashed JM8 Code with the JM4 modem and the BMC JH2 CSC and my phone came up with the BMC sales code and Bell APN's. I do have to add the pda.bell apn after. All of the inet ones are there. I have yet to find a CSC that has the pda.bell.ca APN pre-loaded.
Here is a link to different CSC's as well as Richtofen's release.

XWJM8 CODE and XXJM4 MODEM work but not properly: they don't let you use 850MHz. I think that on Bell we need to use a UG MODEM.
Maybe Richtofen could split out the MODEM as well as the CSC.

(Resolved) Unable to connect to 3g with good APN, after flash

Hello all and thanks for your future help
So today i flash a friend's SGS, his phone run on SFR network (from france) with the DJP5 firmware with the combo fully fonctional.
So i flash a JM5, then the JS3 and i flash my rom kitchen from doc, custom JS3 with JPY modem and XEF CSC.
All is fine, the phone reboot, I flash speedmod Kernel k13a, reboot and set the good network and BAM.
Could not connect to 3g whatever i do.
I try different APN, then I reset to the first one (normaly the good one) but nothing.....
I try different modem (JPE, JPY and JPX) nothing work at all, i'm unable to connect 3g......
First time i see this problem, even if i flash my phone ten time a week.....
So I hope you could help me
Thanks in advance !
Nobody can help me? No idea?
I have the same kind of problem with mine. APN info is perfect. Settings are for GSM&WCDMA. I have no problem with WIFI and EDGE works fine so it'll still transfer data. It's with Darky's 9.2 ROM though so it may have something to do with the JS3 firmware customisations.
I've cleared cache and dalvik cache as well and I get the 3g symbol up for a moment but when it actually starts to transfer data, it switches to EDGE.
I'm re-flashing Darky's firmware without wipe just to see if it's an issue with my altering twframework.apk for a cool notification window background. I'll pop back on this one tomorrow and let you know how that went just to see if the first one was a bad flash. I have read that there can be more issues with flashing through CWM then through Odin but I think I'll wait and see if that's necessary.
hey i got kinda same problem..!!! :-| i have SGS i9000 in India...today i installed darky's ROM for the first time...installed 9.2 extreme version....but after that i just cant connect to a data network...not even Edge network.... if i update APN settings manually & reboot...still they are not saved...tried switching data network on & off million times also switching flight mode on & off....in hope that it will connect to my data network but just wont work..!!!
Have you all set the user names for the apn settings? I wasn't connecting either until I verified the usermame and password were correct.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Ok, here's the problem. It's the CSC. I know it bites but you're going to have to go through a system reset. The custom firmwares come with multi-csc (wipe versions) so enter your dial pad and type *#272*(your imei)# then select a CSC for your country or something like XEU which is what I did. Then, enter recovery, clear cache and dalvik cache. Finally, re-enter your APN.
Hope that does it for you. It worked for me as my CSC was XXOJPY (Darky's ROM) and set to KOR. I know I'll be keeping this in mind the next time I flash a new wipe ROM. Oh and do a backup beforehand, just in case.
If this helps, feel free to hit the thanks button

There-in lies the problem. Generally it's a "set it and forget it" kind of thing but in the case of a rom that's going to wipe everything, you need to reset it.
Thanks for your reply! I
I've got all my apn 's settings right but I found a solution. The csc was multi and flash by the rom, so I flash and xef csc by odin and it works for me
Maybe it work for you
Thanks again for your help!

Ok I took the plunge and installed :
Update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 to Stable Gingerbread XXJVK 2.3.3
and also re-rooted my phone.
No I only have a G symbol as to before I was on 2.2 Froyo with no issues.
Im currently on Orange (Contract) in the UK with the same APN settings as before.
Any help on this please let me know.
Thanks

Use Packet Data and Data Roaming are both ticked, does this make a difference?
Also Network mode is on : GSM/WCDMA (Auto Mode)
did your modem change when you changed ROM ?
Just find out what modem you should have and re-flash that... also check your APN settings... also do a search in the forums for this exact problem... it is posted like twice a day.. good luck

[Q] 3G Internet works in 2.2.1 but not 2.3.3

Hi all.
After alot of research and some aid from XDA and Whirlpool, I finally flashed to stock Optus 2.1 FW, managed to change my CSC from KOR to OPS which enabled me to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2.1 official Optus FW in Kies. Hooray.
I have used Gingerbread before; I forget which files I used to do so. When I was in 2.3.3 my 3G Internet would not work, nor would it in Darky's Rom v10 (still on 2.3.3). I have now downgraded to 2.2.1 (Optus' official firmware) and my 3G Internet works perfectly.
My question is - why has this happened? Is it because the 2.3.3 FW doesn't support my phones modem? Does anyone know which 2.3.3 FW from samfirmware will support my modem so that my 3G Internet will work on Gingerbread? Is there any research I can conduct so I download the right Gingerbread FW to flash through ODIN?
Thanks in advance, and sorry if I made no sense.
-Gee.
Probably your APN's got deleted after flashing. Have you checked that?
Yeah I just read up about it a few minutes ago, seems I need to input the APN settings manually. Will this work?
it should, try it... takes 2 mins.
Stash this away into your firmware collection.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S6NMLH8W OPS csc.
If you flash a 3 file firmware, just replace the csc with this and you won't have to enter any apn's ever again.
not all CSC work for GB right now...
The above posted csc has worked on every Gingerbread build that I have flashed.
Thanks Electrotune1200. Will that CSC also keep my product code as OPS? What gingerbread build are you on?
It will keep your product code XSA, which is Australia.
And at setup, will give you the option of Optus or Virgin network.

[HELP] No internet (mobile data) on SentinelROM and CM10.1

Hi guys
Yesterday I was able to flash SentinelROM successfully
I was very happy until when I went out and disconnected from my wifi, I realized that there was no internet connection
Tried to restore APN settings to default, but to no avail
Took out the simcard and put into my iphone, data was fine
So I reflash stock ROM, data worked
Reflash Sentinel, data didn't work
Flashed CM10.1, data also didn't work, although APN settings have been restored to default
Phone and sms worked though..
So now I'm stuck with stock
Could anybody please help?
Just so you know, I'm on O2 UK
Many thanks

I did some reading
The stock firmware which I'm using on my phone has these details (it's Germany - DBT):
PDA: I9305XXBME3
CSC: I9305DBTBMF1
MODEM: I9305XXBME1
which is the same as describe in sammobile.com (the latest)
As I'm in UK and using O2, according to sammobile.com, the details for the latest firmware (O2U):
PDA: I9305XXBMA3
CSC: I9305O2UBMA1
MODEM: I9305XXBLL5
Should I just flash the modem XXBLL5 onto my phone?
Or should I flash I9305XXBMA3_I9305O2UBMA1_O2U.zip stock firmware?
Please advise
Try these
CSC: I9305O2UBMA1
MODEM: I9305XXBLL5

I'll try that and we'll see :good:
I have downloaded the modem file, i.e. XXBLL5.zip, but I can't find that specific CSC file for I9305 although I've done a lot of research..
So I flashed anyway the I9305XXBMA3_I9305O2UBMA1_O2U.zip stock firmware, but no internet at all although with this stock ROM..so I imagine it won't work on Sentinel as well..
I have a similar issue but nothing apart from flashing CM10.1 works
So far tried about 6 different ROMs, all built for i9305 and ALL have no data connection but wifi works faultless. Reflash CM10.1 and I get my data connection back. Which is a pain as I really liked Pandorium with Perseus kernel and JKay framework so I can tweak away
Did a factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik between all flashing. All ROMs install and run perfectly on wifi, just no data connection. Reflash CM10.1 ...... again. And all my problems go away. On T-Mobile/EE/Orange in UK
It appears, after much reading, it could be linked to an incorrect CSC (Country Code). So you might have to flash the CSC code for your specific Country AND mobile carrier
No data connection error is due to the modem is set-up for a different country and mobile carrier, so obviously it can't connect to what it can't find .....
Now I'm just trying to get my head around CSC flashing and tracking down methods that don't NEED a Samsung firmware
CSC is the customer setup configuration .
Network settings for different networks .
See the CSC post .
jje
I just don't understand..why does it work with stock ROM..but not with Sentinel and CM10.1?
I mean..we do not change the CSC and modem after flashing those custom ROMs, do we?
There are lists of modems and CSCs here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26530885#post26530885
I am eager to test them, but I fear those CSCs and modems are for I9300, which would brick my I9305. Please advise

2. changed CSC to O2U and modem to XXBLL5 - mobile internet worked with stock ROM, but didn't work with Sentinel ROM
