Apologies if this has been posted before. I recently flashed my phone with gingerbread (JVK) and since then, the USB charging have been more then a little bit screwy.
Usually i have my phone plugged into my PC while i am work. At some point during the day i will get the message telling me that its finished charging. If i unplug it at this point the battery will instantly drop to between 70 and 80 percent, sometimes it goes as low as 50%!!!! If i plug the phone back in it will continue charging for a while and then i will get another message telling me that the battery is at 100%. If i unplug it then it still drops, but to a higher percentage. I am able to get the battery to 99% by plugging it in and unplugging it a number of times.
The odd thing is that if i charge it from mains, it goes to 100% and stays there the first time.
Any ideas?

BUT if i leave the charger on after it saids "full charged" for another few more hrs say 6 hrs, after unplugging.. it will immediately drop to 90% or even less some time.
well for js5/7/8 don't have such issue, that means after i leave the charger plug for overnight even its already full charged, after unplugging it still shows 99-100% !
wondering if any jv1/k/b user encounting this same issue?

If you are rooted, then delete battery stats, shutdown your phone, and leave it on the charger till it is 100% full. Then leave in on the charger again, start your phone, and delete battery stats again. Reboot your phone, and you should be ok.
For the second part, in which your phone after fully charged and left on charger lost some percentage after unplugging, it seems that Gingerbread stops charging once battery is full, and do not continue, even if charger is plugged in, once it'll lost some power. Some older phones does this (S45 for example).
Out of curiosity, what kernel are you using?

ok, as for battery stats i did the wipe, but i did not shutdown and do a full charge
as for kernel i did not really try on stock kernel though, i started using jv's series with CF's kernel or supercurio's hacked kernel.
maybe you are right that gingerbread stop charging after the battery is fully charged, but to my understanding i thought that is supposed it run on a/c once its fully charged? leaving the battery disconnect until you unplug it and it will starts to use the battery.
for froyo wise i presume it runs on a/c while leaving the battery disconnected, after overnight of full charged the phone is cool and don't feel like the battery is still "charging" after it reaches 100%
I had this problem too when i was with xxjvk. batterystats.bin was always automatically deleted by system once charger was connect/disconnect (couldnt remember...).
if the charger was unplugged right after fully charged notification, the phone worked perfectly fine and battery life was much better than with xsjw8..

Ok seems like jvb doesn't solve the issue... I'm on goatrips's jvb at the moment. I got the make sure that I unplug immediately after it said full charged otherwise the percentage would drop like 10-20% if I leave it connected overnight.
Wondering how come there is so many jvk/jvb tester/users around but seems no one mention about it.

Thanks for your reply but i have already tried this.
It also does not explain why it is fine charging from mains but not USB.
Notice that. Not sure whether its a bug. When it finishes charging, the sgs operate naturally and doesn't preserve the battery like it use to in the previous fw. So it drops immediately as the phone is disconnected. If the screen is left on during charging, it is a problem...

Anything ever come out of this? I'm using Serendipity VII for Cappy based of jvb. I'm seeing this regardless of the type charger I use. Once it hits 100%, the battery continues to show 100% until I remove the charger. Then it shows what I assume is the amount of battery left after powering the phone from the point it reached a full charge to the present. If I remove it immediately after full charge is reached, it reflects that. If I leave it on the charger for hours, it immediately drops reflecting the time spent since full charge.

I have a problem someone might be able to shed some light on.
I am on call so i need to leave my phone on over night, i plug it in as i go to bed so over noight it charges. In the morning it is at 100% until i unplug it, it will go down to 78 - 85% of battery
Does anyone know why this happens??????

Also, the phone stops charging after it reaches 100%, so its if you think that keeping it connected to the charger all night long it will be charging all the time you're wrong. The phone stops charging to prevent the battery from overheating - charging resumes after some time though

I believe I did a battery Calibration, I used "Battery Calibration" to do this but this might not be the best thing to do a CAL.
I leave it plugged in cos i'm asleep when it gets to 100% otherwise i would unplug it, when i here it get to 100% i unplug it cos i only lose about 2% battery over night.
It should at least hold the charge at around 99 -98%.
I think Battery Calibration does the job - or you can go in recovery and wipe the battery stats there. Anyway next time that happens you should go to Settings>applications>battery use and you should check which of the processes is draining your battery the most

Nothing is draining the battery, I just want to know why after being on the charger "reading 100%" battery it drops to approx 78% after i unplug the Charger.
Even if i have everything turned on and running it should stay at 97% or above once i unplug the charger.
LOL that's just the battery acting if you don't have anything draining it. Also, just for information - you apparently haven't had everything turned on and running on the phone - I can tell you that the charger is not fast enough and cannot counter the entire drain of the battery, so you end up losing battery even though you're charging the phone and the worse part is that soon the battery overheats and stops charging. LOL
For crying out loud, use your brains and do a search for battery problems, there are so many damn bits of info on battery calibration it's unreal, first rule of forum.. "search before you ask"! Nappy change anyone?!

I did a search but found nothing regarding this issue.
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but i have just recently gotten the same problem.
It started after i installed the 2000 Mah samsung battery. I have since calibrated the battery but the problem apperently still persist.
I have several chargers, and i'm beginning to suspect that the one in the bedroom doesn't work properly anymore. I used the charger in the living room to charge to 100% calibrate and it stayed at 100% when unplugged.
Any ideas or suggestions or is it simply still af matter of a bad calibration?
When unplugging, anything in the range of 95% to 100% should be ok.
As for calibrating, i usually drain my whole battery to 0, then recharge to get back 100%
That is exactly what I did as well.
Another way you could fix this is by turning off auto-sync while you charge.
I had this exact problem, but it is caused by your phone completely charging, when it gets to 100% it stops taking battery from the plug, so its using your phones battery. Auto sync is always been used and uses a lot of battery.

in the last few days I noticed following strange battery issues:
When I go to bed in the evening I plug my phone to the charger,
in the Morning I have a green LED and battery is at 100%.
A few minutes later the Battery has a massive Drop from 100%
(From 100% to 58% or 100% to 38% or 100% to 61%)
After I noticed this, I installed Current Widget to log the battery
consumption.

It's not a good idea to leave the phone pluged to the charger. When its fully charged i always take the charger out.
There is several threads about that, e.g. this one.

but i found, that cause is Current Widget. Uninstall it and everything gonna be ok. if not - install Power Tutor and find the way your power disappearing.
i have around 1% battery drop every 2 hours and 30-40% with Current Widget installed. (on stock and Android Revolution HD ROMs)

Erm ... when I am asleep I wont plug out my Phone, because, well I am sleeping
Well if you read through this section, you will see a couple of threads with this discussed.
The issue you are facing is common.
Once the phone is completely charged to 100%, the phone automatically stops drawing power from the charger.
So lets say you start charging your phone at 2:15, it may charge up fully by 3:15.
Though it is still connected to the charger, the phone stops charging once it reaches 100%.
Then the phone starts drawing power for its normal usage, standby, display, any apps running in the background etc.
So by the time you wake up at 8:15 (or wenever) the phone wen connected will still show 100%, but after unplugging in a couple of minutes, it will drop down to the actual battery percentage.
nothing wrong with the phone.
i noticed the same with my earlier x10 after the 2.1 update as well.

well, key is to charge it as long as required.
Once it reaches 100%, any additional charging is a waste of electricity

Good point! Do you know if the phone's alarm still works when the phone is off? This was the case for my old i8910 hd and was quite handy for saving battery at night

I have an SGS GT-I9000 (T-Mobile UK), I had stock ROM 2.1-update1 a week ago (this was my Mum's phone, now mine). As I already have one phone I decided to root this and install CM7 using the latest wiki instructions (Heimdall, ROM Manager) including CWM, this rooted, unlocked, updated.. Of note, my phone does not have the 3BR, I have not yet fixed that with Odin, I have made a 301K Jig. The phone also has a forced upload mode immediately displayed while phone on and pressing Home+Up.
After installing CM7 (phone wasn't fully charged during install, a friend was helping me and it was taking too long to charge again after failing to unlock the network via adb for some time) the battery was not full, I used the phone for a while and plugged in later. The problem is that it got to ~54% and didn't move for an hour or so, battery would quickly drop a percent or two again. At this point the iPod wall socket displaying as "charging (USB)" in About.
I reset the battery stats in CWM which did nothing to the current battery level reading of 54%. I flattened the battery with GPS, speaker, WiFi tether, etc. got to 1% then turned off after a while, would not turn on again. So I charged with an HTC wall charger, which forces the phone to be fully awake thanks to CM7, also showing AC as the source this time, but although the battery quickly reached 10% and 30%, it did not pass 66% after more than 12 hours charging.
I am happy with the usage (~day) I get from this phone, but I would like it to say 100% occasionally.
I will flatten the battery again, then plug in to switch on, followed immediately by reboot into recovery (an option in CM), then I will leave it over night ~7-8 hours charging in recovery, and perform another stats wipe. I have read that without 3BR I may never get my phone on again (low bat boot loop) if it gets too flat, I hope that doesn't happen (didn't last time, before I read that).
Any help?
Also, there is one other thread about never fully charging: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780340 but the OP says that it displays 100% but keeps on charging anyway.
Just run it through a full charge cycle 2 or 3 times, its just lost is head,it comes back,...........im on insanity cm 022.....happened to me

Hi, thanks for your advice, I have now completed several full cycles and with patience I am getting 100%. The problem still exists though, it take 24-26 hours to charge from 0 to 100% even with flight mode on for half of that time, longer if not. I am using an AC charger (as recognised in the battery menu). I do get about 12 hours of light usage from the phone, but will lose the first 10% while browsing the internet even while still plugged in.
Any further advice would be greatly appreciated. (I have tried a couple of different wires and plugs, some say USB, others AC).

P.S. I am considering finding a stock ROM and fixed 3BR partition and reverting back to a better than before stock, unlocked, unrooted system.

Baring in mind that batteries never charge to 100% dude even when it says it has, this is a safety feature to prevent over charging and exploding batteries, I'd go through the cycle again, let your battery go dead, try switching it on to make sure the batteries dead, then whilst off, charge your phone till full, then unplug and plug in again to make sure its full, then if its full boot immediately into recovery and delete battery stats, repeat these steps another 2-3 times bud

Cheers, I can't charge with the phone off though, another reason for going back to stock maybe (or removing clockworkmod). I would have expected batteries to trail off near the limits, but the charge rate is fairly consistent throughout. I shall keep cycling the battery and resetting the stats though, so far no improvement, it's just an inconvenience to be without a phone every other day.
I know the feeling bud and I know its tedious, but keep at it and it should get better pretty soon so long as you stick to the cycle

When I charge my phone and it says the battery is full and 100%, but after I unplug the charger, I only get 98% of battery. It is not really a problem but i'm just wondering if anyone else has this also.

Seems to be phone battery calibration, happens to me too. Try not to unplug the charger immediately after 100%, let it overcharge for few minutes more.

Also happening to me... It's because battery calibration...
This is the normal behavior of overcharge protection.
imagine you battery is charged till 100%, the overcharge protection now disable charging till the battery is loosing a few % of its charge, but the "battery memory" doesnt recognize this respectively doesnt refresh its state so your battery indicator will always show 100% until you unplug the phone.
if you unplug the phone at 100% it might be, that the battery memory is refreshing after loosing one more % of charge and now recognize, thats it wasnt at 100% at all and show you the current charge.
e.g. if you charge your phone when its off-state, this behavior shouldnt take place and the phone should charge till exactly 100%. important for recalibrating the battery.

You can also load up clockwork recovery anf clear battery stats.
If no root access, fo the following.
1.Power on let fully charge
2.turn phone off while still plugged in
3. Remove battery and power cord and push power button for 5 secs
4. Replace battery amd power cord
5. Let fully charge again.
Once charged, power up while pluged in, once phone is fully loaded un plug and monitor battery,
None root battery calibration should be finished.

When it happens to me... I inmediatly replug the charger and wait... the second time I umplug I get 100% and It seems to repair the issue for the future charges.
i noticed this too! sometimes i do get 100% after charging. But most of the times its 98% immediately after unplug! And i have my battery calibrated too!:/

if you're in Gingerbread version (2.3.4) when battery reached 99%, you"LL need to wait 1 more hour to make it fuLLy charged...

What about first time using battery? Charge the battery 100% first or let it drain to 0% then fully charge?

I am not new to the phone and I have done battery calibrations many times. I used MIUI for a long time, then went to Pinnacle 1.1. After a few weeks one night after fully charging, I unplugged the charger and it dropped to 70% instantly. I could then plug the charger back in and it will not move from 70% for a while, then it will register 'fully charged'. Removal of the charger again will make it drop to 70%. Turning off the device and charging will show the green battery about 2/3 full, but not registering full. I then went back to MIUI thinking it was a rom flaw, but this problem has persisted. I am right now charging on stock JF6 with the same results. If this is indicative of a defective battery, has anyone seen this before? The battery is 14 months old.
TL;DR - It seems that the battery wont charge past 70% regardless of ROM/Kernel.
I had a similar problem but it was because I wasn't using the charger that comes with the phone switched chargers problem was solved.

I am using the charger that came with the phone. Also tried a blackberry charger as well as usb charging it.

I drained the battery last night, and then charged while off fully. The green battery icon went to 100%, and as soon as I turned it on it said 73%.
You might want to check into getting a new battery I got a extended battery for 10$ you can probably find the original sized battery for about the same price if you look around.

Google "bump charging". I had a similar issue when I was on serendipity vii, it would charge to full, but as soon as I unplugged it would drop to 80%. I bump charged, then calibrated. All was well after that.

Tried that. It hangs at about the 2/3 full level on the large green battery icon when the phone is charging off so I really can't do a proper bump charge.
I think I am going to resign to it being a battery past its prime...
New batteries are fairly cheap, plus I've heard that if you even mention faulty battery to at&t they ship you a new one for free...

I find that hard to believe, but it can't hurt to try!
Sounds like you need a battery calibration..
1. discharge completely
2. plug into a USB port on the computer for a slow charge up to 100% (overnight while "off")
3. unplug the device and turn it on
4. if you have a ROM with CWM installed, clear the battery stats at this time.
5. plug it into usb until it's charged to 100% (while on)
6. unplug the device and turn it off
7. plug in into usb again until its charged to 100%(while "off")
8. turn it on and use it as normal
This will allow the device to relearn it's battery charging characteristics. This is the battery calibration.

In stages 2 or 5 it never reaches 100%.
I am going to try a coworkers battery tomorrow at full charge. That should settle it.

You are not leaving it long enough. It will reach 100% once it charges what it believes is 30% more. It must be off and you must clear the Batt stats.
Once it stops charging it marks that as fully charged. Your battery needs calibration.

I left it off and plugged in overnight and it never reached 100%, but I will give it a shot again this weekend.

You are right.
I did a small test with a coworkers battery today.
His battery in his phone - 88%
His battery in my phone - 58%
Leaves a delta of 30% which is exactly why mine stops charging at 70%.
It has gotten to 100% while off charging in the green. I then booted to CWM recovery and wiped battery stats, but it turns on at 70% again. It is almost like it isn't deleting the file.

It's true, go to your nearest AT&T store and tell them about your issue and they'll take your information (name, address etc...) and ship you a brand new OEM (Samsung) battery no questions asked. No idea why they don't just hand you one on the spot, but it only takes a few days to get to you anyways.

did you finish the procedure I mentioned? There is a calibration procedure. It involves turning it on and off several times and plugging it in an unplugging it several times.

I followed the calibration instructions perfectly. I have done it quite often actually. Didn't work. It acts as if CWM isn't actually deleting the file.
Deleted batterystats.bin via a terminal emulator and still no luck.
