[Q] Best ROM to Flash? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Just wondering but which custom ROM do you all suggesting flashing? I flashed CM6 stable yesterday but it didn't have the Market preinstalled so I'd prefer to use a different ROM. Thanks!

Market preinstalled? Is it so hard to download and apply Google Apps?
Try FroyoMOD 2.6.1b, Google Apps are preinstalled there...

Sorry I'm a noob haha not really sure how to push apps through adb.

Do you have Androidiani Open Recovery? There is a link in CM threads that leads to Google Apps(if CM7, download CM7 HDPI, if CM6, download CM6 HDPI). They are in .zip file, and all you need to do is to put it in /sdcard/openrecovery/updates, reboot in recovery, go to Apply update and choose gapps-yes. And reboot. Simple is that x).

Oh okay thanks a lot!

I'd think you will hardly find a rom that has market (gapps) preinstalled. I think it has something to do with licensing issues.
So:
making a rom without market(gapps) is ok,
making a rom with market(gapps) gets you into trouble.
Thats why you have to go through the hassel of applying the gapps.

Oh by the way, what if I'm using Clockworkmod Recovery? Under which folder should I put the CM6 HDPI .zip file then?

If you use CR on a Milestone, be prepared to start everything over again from 0.
Was there something wrong with the method that worked when you installed CM6 or do you enjoy making life difficult?

What do you mean by CR? Because if you mean Clockwork Recovery Mod then the Milestone doesn't support that, you need to use OR or AOR.

I used Clockwork and it worked perfectly fine. Although I think I should have specified that I have the Droid 1 and not the Milestone.

Unfortunately, only Motorola can do this by either releasing a 2.2 update or unlocking the bootloader.
You aren't alone, a lot of people are in the same boat.
At least we have root/overclock etc!

pseudo root ( witch basically ONLY allows us to theme and mod sytsem files) and Overclock , there is no ETC unfortunately ..
but yea cant wait to have Flash running . maybe someoen will succeed at porting a pseudo rom of froyo .. who knows ?
How about flash_for_21.apk?
I heard that someone hacked it for HTC EVO but it may not work with MS.
Anyone tried with it?

Htere is n o pseudo, root is root, means root privilages. Means we can do whatever we want with system folder. What we can't do is boot another kernel, so only custom roms on same kernel allowed, means no froyo for example. But someone could maky Cryogen ROM but using this kernel, that would mean quite some work.

Actually, No.
We can boot a kernel, Sort of, Inside the current kernel (Kexec)
We can't write anything past the bootloader. Nothing. We have to do everything during runtime.

flash lite, doesnt work on the milestone, its linked in by code with the HTC browser and well i manged to get the APk for flash lite or (hero flash) but it doenst actually work.
unless anyones knowlegable on how to edit the browser i cant see it being available.
but saying that it cannot be that easy, ive had dolphin HD, which states that it is very very flash friendly, and neither apk will allow the flash to work.

Seriously? This is turning into the 'ask the same questiln without reading answers' thread.
Milestone can'T have Flash 10 because of the locked bootloader.
The download people have that works on 2.1 with Sense UI, which isn't native on milestone. Use lite.

Yep. I've easily installed Flash 10.1, but as already mentioned it doesn't help. The problem is that the browser itself doesn't support Flash plugin.

Install Astro File Manager. Then open it, hit Menu, hit Preferences, and Enable Browser Downloads.
After running Logcat I noticed that this was missing a file. /system/etc/dbus.conf
I don't know what it does, but Logcat complained about it often. I think this may cause 'battery life' to not be as well, but it didn't seem to have any issues. I am uploading another new one right now that has this file. It didn't get pulled when I pulled the system so I copied over the one from Obsidian and the Logcat stopped complaining about it.
I attached dbus.zip for those of you that don't want to redownload the ROM and want to 'fix' this. Just unzip it and put dbus.conf in /system/etc via adb push or root explorer.
If you aren't sure if you need it, check your /system/etc folder in root explorer and see if dbus.conf is there. If it isn't, add it. I didn't notice any issues other than logcat complaining with this file's absence.
is it deodexed?

Ken, you're still the champ!
GingerBlur RC1 is based on the Deodexed 1.2.6 framework and system, and this is the deodexed 1.5.7 update.zip. It does not seem like too far of a stretch for them to be compatible. I am not sure how this indicates that I don't understand what it does.

Oh boy, you have opened a never ending discussion now!
After you have done flashing for a while, the answer will be "whatever way you like best." For a very first timer, I would suggest the AIO tool at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944418
Personally, I am generally upgrading within a single ROM and I like to move it onto the sdcard and use CWM red recovery (3-button entry or from 'boot to recovery' in power-down menu now on my phone) and flash ROM from that, using the 'install zip from sdcard' option, or however it is worded.
Still looking for an answer to

When i had 2.2 froyo I just flashed DG's odin file to revert back to a rooted stock froyo. This worked for me I would upload the file but I no longer have it. sorry
You can use the one click root and if clockwork mod is not working on your stock 2.2 just use odin to flash the speed mod kernel it comes with clockwork and root access so you can use room manager etc.

3/ Run LGMDP-v1.5.exe from the folder where you unpacked it and flash it the "Russian way"... For a walktrough on using this tool, see my Flash baseband HOWTO. (Note: I have replaced the stock recovery with CWM 3.1.0.0. In case you already have a custom recovery installed, just uncheck the box.)

Caveats: Switching to another ROM (not based on official v20 ROM):

- or flash stock 2.2.x ROM via KDZ; or
- (for CM7 ROMs only): - after flashing ROM via ZIP, reboot and flash mik's new-baseband-patch-signed.zip from recovery[/B]! If you encounter issues, report them to mik_os (his CyanogenMod 7.1 thread), NOT to me, I cannot fix it!

FAQ:
Q: Can you upload v20B/D/... as well?
A: NO! I have better things to do than wasting my time with slow uploads. You can prepare the ROM yourself, just follow [HOWTO] Cook your custom rom for LG P500. Note: You only need steps 1-2. After that, replace recovery.img with one of your choice from here. Not to mention that the ROMs are essentially the same for everyone, save for country/OEM-specific bloat.
Didn't know it was already out :O I'm gonna test this soon!

And I read somewhere that it does not. Some people requested this, so it is posted. Otherwise, noone forces you to use it.

Already posted on another thread, so no, I do not feel like doing another cut-and-paste job, use search please.
Going back to 2.2/2.3 ROMs not based on LG's v20 -> flash stock 2.2.x with KDZ (as also already written on another thread as well.) That is the whole purpose why I uploaded the stupid 100+ megs file, after all.
Does flashing the "Russian" method will wipe my data?

Yeah... you can have a nice MP3/MP4 player and gaming device that way; just the phone functionality will be missing. Everyone NOT already using the leaked 20a and ROMs based on it MUST flash it via the EXE.

Exactly, plus there is no point going through such a long procedure. I suggest you to wait until the sources are out to get the best rom by the best devs of our section.
