nope no themes, i change everything one at a time from wallpaper to icons. recently iv added beautiful widgets and i believe it started after that. but why would beautiful widgets make an alert icon pop up in the status bar?

Handcent is a messaging app, you'll see it in your app drawer ... If its there uninstall it ... Or use it I prefer it just turn off notifications in one of them.
If that's not it ... Then idk try instead of clearing the second one click on it and see what app it opens?

Hi,
I'm using GO SMS on my mobile, instead of the built in SMS app.
The widget on the lockscreen (unfortunally; I'm not able to capture screenshots with this phone) shows me "unread messages count" because i dont use the built in app. How can i remove this widget?
Its enoying

you can freeze the message app with titanium backup.
sometimes the message on the lockscreen comes back though... then you have to defrost, open message app, and then freeze again.
Hope a better solution comes up.

Would be cooler if Go SMS could actually "take over" that widget and show its message count instead . Then it would actually be useful.
Would like to sort this out too. I guess a replacement lockscreen could work?
It does. Or you can uninstall or freeze the mms.apk in system/app/ - but I lost a few messages then, they dissapeared after I had read them. Tho all the messages from before I uninstalled was still there; so remember to backup both SMS/MMS and mms.apk before in case of emergency.
I have the past days found a setting in GO SMS that i can “check“ if the stock mms.apk is uninstalled, so that might have been the problem that I didn't. So try to toggle that checkbox.

This setting in GO SMS Pro. Have now removed stock mms.apk and enabled this setting. Seems like everything works great now.
Sent from my talk i tapeten
Heed that warning though...
If you remove mms.apk you will inevitably run into problems sending/receiving msgs
mine doesn't always show 'x messages received', 90 out of 100 times it doesn't show... My question is how to get it working again. I'm using the stock sms application
Getting rid of the message notification with GO SMS PRO.
I solved this in another manner:
installed widgetlocker and message center and created my own lock screen which BTW is nicer then stock.
Edit: here are a couple screenshots, the first with message center, the second with executive assistant
solution...
so,
after I tried it at CyanogenMod 4x... and the system crashed, I tried it at RC1 again:
deinstall with Titanium Backup the point: SMS/MMS 2.3.4 ... and enable the option "Let GO SMS handle incoming message ONLY" you will never see the 45 SMS or less... or more... at notification or LockScreen...
nice evening
I saw, that the work around is already posted... sorry, but it works great!
The gear shaped icon in the picture appeared yesterday and I have no clue what it means. There's no information in the drop down and I've not installed or updated anything that I'm aware of. Anyone seen this icon, or know what it means and how to get rid of it? Not rooted. Thanks.

Go into settings apps..
start with apps you do not know. Look at there icon. see if you see one similar. If not then stop one app running at a time check to see if its gone . Continue until you find the program..

Kidding aside, I don't know what that gear is, but on the SGS3 there was a similar issue brought up and it wound up being a notification bar notification toggle icon.

That's definitely the power control widget causing that. You were able to hide it easily until the most recent update, and I haven't figured out how to hide it since

you can hide notifications for any app in jellybean - settinsg > applications > find the application > untick 'display notifications' (or whatever it says)
Don't forget about the new JB feature.
If you hold down a notification, it will give you an "App Info" selection.

Yeah, that's exactly what it is. When Power Controls was background updated yesterday, the setting 'Notification Icon' in the app settings was reverted to 'default' (which displays the gear icon). I had previously set this to 'transparent' but now notice that that setting still takes up a slot on the notification bar & looks weird when it's sandwiched between 2 notification icons. I've since set the 'Notification Icon' setting to 'Battery 3' and have removed my Battery Widget? Reborn! widget & notification icon. Thanks to everyone for their help & suggestions. I use hangouts as my default messaging app now and it does not turn on the screen. I would like to use messaging, but why leave that feature out as well as the home button waking the screen in my pocket, it drives me nuts.

If you are rooted, install Xposed and download Wanam. There is an option to unhide that feature so you can disable it.

And, since this is just revealing the hidden option rather than hooking in and adding the functionality itself, your choice persists even if you remove wanam and xposed.
I can confirm the wanam option does work, I havent turned it off though cause I want the screen wake. There is also a thread about this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785118

I just turn my phone over so it don't wake me at night lol sorry That's my only suggestion for u.
thanks for the xposed solution. that was really bugging me
I use Ringo Pro from the app store. This allows me to let this app control all ringers and text sounds and then you can go into the actual programs and TURN OFF all notifications... this plus a SECOND lock screen has finally slowed down the pocket calls to 911 and an array of miss hit buttons...
This is my only complaint with this phone. Pocket dialing and button pushing is killing me..lol this has helped some
Fellows "Blocking Mode" takes care of this. Just set it up its free & comes on phone.

The apps below on my toolbar section are all none functional now. I tried clearing the cache but to no avail. I tried dragging the icons out and the following also occurred.
I was attempting to remedy the phantom voicemail icon that was appearing on the top left area of screen. Basically, I installed T Mobile VVM and deleted all messages that were stored and then did the same with the baked in VVM app.
Any ideas?

isint this the old "take a screenshot of the desktop and set it as background to screw around with the end user" trick ?
i work in IT and have seen/done this on people's computer back in the day. what was even funnier was hiding the taskbar, disable desktop icons ,flip the image desktop upsidedown save it and set ask background then inverting the screen so the image was back right side up( on intel video displays ctrl+alt+down) and last but not least, invert the mouse buttons.(yeah... might want to invert buttons before flipping screen lol)

Has anybody find any app or online guide that can be useful to design different icons. For instance, I use WhatsApp a lot, and so far, every attempt to draw the WhatsApp icon has been a total failure so I'm just using a W, which also was not very easy to draw. So I used something like this as a guide but it won't work for icons just letters and common symbols
The guide I've been using:
Another issue I have is that if I reset or flash my phone, I will lose all my custom icons. Is there any way to backup the data for this app without root? (I'm thinking maybe backing up a particular folder).
Thanks.
I would also like to see what others have done. I have created a few custom icons for simple things like email and twitter. I tried doing one for snapchat and it never turned out good so I just gave up.

That is correct. However you could try selecting contacts. I do not now if this will work.
For messaging, you could try to download a third party messaging app and give permission to the app to receive all messages, then you could select that app and give it a different led icon.
This is all in theory I did not check it for you.
Let me know if it works
