Unknown notification bar icon - Nexus 7 General

The gear shaped icon in the picture appeared yesterday and I have no clue what it means. There's no information in the drop down and I've not installed or updated anything that I'm aware of. Anyone seen this icon, or know what it means and how to get rid of it? Not rooted. Thanks.

yes, but I don't instantly know what it is. Let me think for a bit

Go into settings apps..
start with apps you do not know. Look at there icon. see if you see one similar. If not then stop one app running at a time check to see if its gone . Continue until you find the program..
Good Luck

To expand on this I would check to see what apps are in menu > settings > application > running

Looks like the icon that pops up for watching porn. It's permanent. :silly:
Kidding aside, I don't know what that gear is, but on the SGS3 there was a similar issue brought up and it wound up being a notification bar notification toggle icon.

Thanks for filling in the Blanks. Just assumed he would know what i meant ....
Its not the Porn Icon because my son used my tablet and I do not have it... ROFLOL... teenager go figure

Thanks for all the suggestions, I've gone through settings/apps/running & closed everything except for google services, android keyboard and settings, yet the icon persists. I'm at a complete loss.

Hey nice wallpaper. Share that.

Do you have the Power Controls Widget installed? There was an update to this particular widget yesterday and now it's showing the same on mine (gear)... Not sure why they added it to the notifications ...

Have you updated your tablet yet might be the update icon if not its a persistent app that's running in the background and use a app called startup manager it will help you figure out the app.

That's definitely the power control widget causing that. You were able to hide it easily until the most recent update, and I haven't figured out how to hide it since

you can hide notifications for any app in jellybean - settinsg > applications > find the application > untick 'display notifications' (or whatever it says)

Don't forget about the new JB feature.
If you hold down a notification, it will give you an "App Info" selection.

Yeah, that's exactly what it is. When Power Controls was background updated yesterday, the setting 'Notification Icon' in the app settings was reverted to 'default' (which displays the gear icon). I had previously set this to 'transparent' but now notice that that setting still takes up a slot on the notification bar & looks weird when it's sandwiched between 2 notification icons. I've since set the 'Notification Icon' setting to 'Battery 3' and have removed my Battery Widget? Reborn! widget & notification icon. Thanks to everyone for their help & suggestions. Where did Battery Status go?

So I have just flashed a new ROM (The Dude's Edition if you care) just to find out that there's no trace of one of my favorite apps on the market - Battery Status.
Cyrket page is still there, but QR code does not lead anywhere. I bet it has been pulled b/c it was just too similar to a paid app Battery Percentage.
However, since the app was free, I guess it is legal to post it here. Can anyone please do so? I really miss knowing exactly how much battery power I have left just by glancing at my screen (yes, I know there are ways around it).
I just downloaded it yesterday or the day before...

Thanks for the upload, been looking for this app for a while!
Does this app shows percentage on the status bar??? I am looking for a battery status app that will show percentage on the status bar in a rooted G1 with Kingx 2.3 ROM. Anyone here know which app I should get free or paid.
Why don't you just install the app and see if it does what you want it to do?
Here's a screenshot of the app:

The red circle also changes color depending on the theme. On some themes it's blue or even black.

cool, That is exactly what I wanted from the app...I have tried about 5 apps today and un-installed them because the number does not show up in the status bar just the icon of the battery>
So I install this app and there is still no number by the battery icon on the status bar...I would really love to find and app that will do that for rooted phone with HERO ROM. Here is the snap shot of what I want on the battery status, right now I only get the icon of the battery and no number.
I guess HERO reports battery somehow differently. I won't be of much help here though. You need to look for a hero-specific app in the market.
well, thanks for the help...I went in the HERO section of apps and theme and they have 2 battery apps. One is called Battery Monitor 1.0.5 which works but the font color of the number is black and the status bar is black so you cannot see the % on the status bar. The second one is Battery Level and this one is also paid app and has received horrible reviews.
In the end it does not look like there are any battery status app that will properly display the status on the status bar...the wait continues until HERO is fully understood int eh Market Place.
Thanks for the Help!
Sorry to keep buggin you guys but I found the solution from Battery Monitor 1.0.5 there is an option to change the setting of the font color on the status bar. You have to be in the enable/disable screen and press menu and setting.

Dude. THANKS!!! I had then, lost it by wipe/flash and didn't know it was gone until too late and didn't have a backup!

Looking for 2 apps.

Hey guys.
I've searched for a couple of hours for 2 apps and can't find them. I ran a search on xda and nothing.
First app:
A battery indicator that i can see in the notification area but does not have a icon on the notification bar. I want to be able to drop down the notification bar and see the status of my battery in percentages. I prefer my notification bar as clean as possible.
Second app:
Power controls in the notification area. I found Quick Settings, but that opens another app to change the settings. I'm looking for a way to activate wifi, bluetooth and so on just by taping something in the notification area.
Thanks.
So, the conclusion is that there are no such apps?
It s only too much.
Quick settings is very impressive. It starts the app from the notification bar, thats right.
But, what would you all switch from the notification bar:
Wifi
APN
Brighness
GPS
Auto Sync
Bluetooth
Airplane Mode
etc...
There are too much options for one notification bar.
I'm thinking that an app like this would let me choose 3-4 toggles. I realize it's impossible to have them all.
Oh, and a toggle does not take a row, instead all the toggles should be on the same row but with separators between them.
OK, I' have to say, that I never found such a programm. Sorry.

So the default power bar widget won't work for you? It's pretty much exactly what you pictured, however a widget.
If you want to choose and have your own order, use beautiful widgets.
Why try and cram this into the notification area? You have 5 desktop screens (more with add-ons and custom ROM's) to put this stuff. Navigation from screen to screen is fast and easy (even if you hate the swipe thing).
Or this even? http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.extendedcontrols/
Dunno, just lost as to why I guess.
Yes, you are right, it looks like the power settings widget, but i want it in the notification area to be able to change settings without leaving the current app and stop using the widget. I need the space for other stuff
moved to the Q&A section
What about quickdesk? Kmobs hads mentioned it on twitter couple of times. you can put anything you want even the settings widget and can change it without leaving the app.

Are you talking about the widget? If yes, its not what i'm looking for. Like i said, both apps need to display something in the notification area, so no widgets and no notification bar icons.

i never tried it but damn is too bad the home button gets removed didn't know it. but the app is in beta maybe it will get fixed.
UPDATE: Today the QuickDesk app was released on the market and it fixed the issue, so now i can use it
One problem solved.
PS: I strongly recommend QuickDesk so go download it.

[HOW TO][ANY ROM] Install and Configure Halo

I saw a lot of people not knowing how to configure it, so here's how I got it to work
1. Install Floating Notifications and enable it in the Accesibility menu.
2. Select the box labeled "Launch Apps in Halo Mode"
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. Go to the app notifications menu and check which ones you want it to notify you for. HINT: if you want a real halo experience the rightmost icon in the app list will make the icon stay floating.
4. This is a personal preference: Go to Customize in Floating Notifications and select "Dock after a few seconds of inactivity" and then at the bottom set "Amount of the icon hidden when docked:" to 55%. If it is more than 55% then you will have trouble clicking the stack.
5. REBOOT PHONE.
Now for the Xposed part.
1. Install Xposed Framework
2. REBOOT PHONE.
3. Go into Xposed Installer and go to "Downloads" and select XHaloFloatingWindow, and then install it.
4. REBOOT PHONE.
5. Go into Xposed Installer and go into "Modules" and check the box "XHaloFloatingWindow".
6. For safe measure REBOOT PHONE. And then you're done
Lemme know if y'all need any help!
Also on the reboots it hung on the splash for a while.
Oh yeah not responsible if your device catches fire.

[Q] VZW LG G2 KitKat official - Missing Notification Access?

I'm running the official KK ROM and am unable to locate "Notification Access" or the notification history that was supposedly added in 4.3. It's supposed to be under Settings > Security > Notifications, but there's no such thing on my device. This is supposed to replace the Accessibility Services system for apps wanting to better control notifications.
I have 5 apps listed under Accessibility Services: Greenify and Light Flow and then 3 related to my Pebble Steel- Pebble, Nav Me, and Music Boss.
All are turned off in Accessibility Services and appear to be working properly. Light Flow does not give me a warning that the notification system needs to be enabled.
Where do I toggle these notifications services?
Edit- This is what I'm talking about: http://tech.firstpost.com/news-anal...t-developers-access-notifications-101802.html

Hmm, you're right, it's not accessible through the settings menu. However, some launchers, (like Nova) can create an activity shortcut to that service/setting. Alternatively, there are apps available on the Play Store that can create activity shortcuts as well.

I know LightFlow does prompt for access/permission when you install/open it, and I would assume the other apps you mention probably do as well.

it's possible. I have some apps that take me to the old accessibility services page still. I didn't know there was a new notification access system when I would have enabled those settings. when I installed a new app it that required this, it took me to accessibility, but then said not to use accessibility in 4.3+ lol. I was confused until I discovered the new notification access, and even more confused when I couldn't find it's settings page.

hi,
Firstly, i had " something "similar (issue)
I my case i was missing my "auto rotate" icon, in my shortcut notification bar. I managed to sort it out, eventually.
I would suggest, try the following... it might work for you.?
1. check your notification shortcut "edit" to see if its not there.
If not,
2 Go to Samsung Store, search for "Quic Panel Restore app its a Samsung app.Install and" run " it. (see screenshot)
App is suppose to fix missing shortcut icons.
Plse note, that missing shortcut icons, is a common
" bug "for Samsung devices.!
From the then S6 device's (big issues then) plus all other Samsung models afterwards.
(You can Google issue and see)
In my case, QuickPanel Restore did not fix, nothing..!
I then had a idea, and downloaded 3rd party app" Auto rotate widget "
install it and switched /activated Auto rotate.
My icon showed up in my notification shortcut bar.! !
Yes, it a Samsung software bug !
Problem is, if i uninstalled" Auto Rotate widget "
my Auto rotate icon disappears from notification shortcut bar.! O, yes...
i do have the Mobile Hot spot (see screenshot)
Good luck

hi,
no, you are correct.! I did a search now and it's not showing.
Previous occasions it showsed for me.
Samsung must have "pulled" app from App Store.
Have you tried my last suggestion,?
re look for similar 3rd party app "Mobile Hot-spot"
Google or check Play store?
Install and see if it "enables" Notification shortcut icon for mobile hot-spot.
This method, worked for me re Auto Rotate and still does...... "forces" icon to show. up in Notification bar.
Good luck
Post note
Did a quick search Play store.
One app "Quick Settings for Android" (has Mobile hot-spot)
and a few others similar apps you can install and try.
Also make sure your carrier has not blocked Mobile Hot-spot ?
(reason maybe why not showing? )
