what is the most stable rom? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
Since last october, i have flashed numerous roms, too many to list, actually, flashed a least 20 different roms. Although, many have been impressive on looks and gizmos, none have been 100% reliable.
The most common and annoying problems recently have been losing calls due to the wonk issue, ...and yes, i do have the most recent dewonk app installedand running.
On CM6, that was not a problem, but battery life was discusting.
Another issue that i have never been able to correct, is the touchscreen problems, no rom has ever been reliable regarding that issue.
Is it that my phone is deffective ?
So the top 3 things i am looking for is
No wonkiness
no touch screen issues
and good battery life
So, if any of you guys out there know of a rom/kernell/radio combination that can offer that, i would praise you like android gods!!!
Thanks in advance for your replies..... i'm just sick of going around every week for a new miracle solution......

you might wanna try SuperAOSP from [email protected]
i've been on it since 2 months ago and i'm a happy user indeed

Sorry to burst your bubble, but roms are never "stable" per say. There are always bugs and risk factors.
Plus, this is the wrong thread to be asking the question too I believe...
But to answer the question,
I'm a CM person.

Hell if you find such rom let us know!!
N1

Yes. The touchscreen on the nexus one is defective. Google it. It cannot distinguish which x or y coordinates belong to each finger and it cannot distinguish touch points near each other.

Try the CM7 nightly BUILD #39 from imfloflo and flash wildmonks latest kernel.
The kernel is newer and contains newer drivers. The #39 is the real final version of CM7
i think it cannot be more stable

This is most certainly not development. Thread moved to Q&A, where it belongs.

Cm7 nightly 41 with intersectraven's latest is pretty darn stable

[Q] cyanogen 7 still wonks?

cyanogen 7 still wonks?
if so why the 7.0 Rom is considered stable for nexus one?
Moreover it seems that superaosp (based on cyanogen 7) doesn't wonks..is it possible?
thanks for the replies
Because they can't fix it. At some point they just have to move forward.
Like stated, they have to move forward.
Plus it doesn't wonk for everyone. Try using the Dewonkficator, seems to
work for MOST peoples.
Also don't mistake the 2 seconds delay for the wonk, that's a separate issue GB related.
Touch wood... I have never experienced the "wonk" on any of the CM7 builds thus far.
My thanks to RogerPodactor for pointing out the difference between the CM "wonk" and the GB "wonk" in another posting.
As an aside, are you the same RogerPodactor that used to post on the AllAboutSymbian forums as your name seems familiar?

Haha yes that's me, I still read all about symbian daily, but I moved to android after years of only Nokia symbian devices.

What a small world... or perhaps not, with the way symbian has gone.
Like you, I spent a long time, over a decade, with Nokia... but the N97 and N8 finished me.... the old saying about a dog biting you twice comes to mind.
N97 was my last then 5800. Never went to the n8, interesting you gave up there. I went right to nexus one last March.

Long story, short. I lost my N97 classic last year and since it was no longer manufactured (10 months after release) I opted for the Nexus One through insurance. A breath of fresh air! Then I was sent the N8 by Nokia, just prior to release, to test for them. It is so slow, freezes and laggy as well as suffering the same fate as the N97... underpowered with an outdated UI. Great camera and speakers though. It sits in a drawer as my backup phone to the Nexus.
My original N8 review:-
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showpost.php?p=476717&postcount=1
That is nokia's strength and something I miss, their great camera and speakers. Anyway sorry for off topic, I'll check out your old review.
Err... yes... apologies for off topic.
Part of the problem, I'm given to understand, is that the CM7 "wonk" only affects certain people and cannot be replicated by Cyanogen who is working in the dark.
I switched to CM Nightly's just after Christmas and took the precaution (a throwback from my Symbian days) of completely wiping the phone and Sdcard before installing CM.
I then reloaded everything from scratch again (piecemeal) and used no back-up's whatsoever from the stock ROM. I also did this when moving from CM6.1 to CM7, just to be on the safe side.
In all that time I have not experienced the CM "wonk" on my Nexus One + H-Boot + 5.12.00.08 radio + CM kernel (or redstar & IR kernels) and using ClockworkMod.
I guess that until a common denominator for the "wonk" can be found and replicated the only other answer is to install the "dewonkificator", which seems to work for quite a few people, from here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11010031&postcount=1
Another option, that has worked for some, is to flash an alternative kernel after installing CM7. See here for a couple of popular kernels:-
redstar

Hope this helps.

Any one with miui(GSM) experience?
Ok so check this out last night i went thru flashing 3 roms on my Tab, i flashed both of the MIUIs and the Boca Rom.
I must admit that within the next hours or so I was so determined to flash the kratos back.
So In my opinion the most practical and stable Rom is Kratos, MIUIS are not stable and not for tablets. Where as the Boca was by far the worst ROM ive ever seen or used. Its just so horrible, my tab felt and looked so cheap with Boca running on it.
So Imm stick to Kratos for now, its the best on the block so far.
P.S: I have nothing personal against BOCA's dev as I know its a work of alot of dedication and time but I also have to criticise on the build because it was just horrible and the look of it was really cheap. So no offense to the dev, I hope the dev takes it as a constructive criticism. Thanks.
I'll add in a voice for Overcome (running Kratos here). I started by trying to use the stock 2.3.3 ROM, and after having a number of problems with it took a chance on Overcome, and to my surprise it was actually substantially more stable and bug-free, though the startup splash screen is a tad overdone.
I'm afraid I just put an end to that bugless streak, though. I just posted a bug report to the Kratos thread about a problem with the VPN icon (namely, it doesn't change if the VPN gets disconnected).
I tried Overcome for a few weeks, tonight i installed MIUI, so we'll se...
I always used to have the overcome rom on the tab(great Roms), but I've had mssmison's miui rom installed the last few week, and its the smoothest its ever been, and quite stable.but then I always restock before I install an update/different rom.
There are some quirks, but nothing that hinders my use of the tab as a tablet.

it depends on which ROM you prefer.
every ROM is different, they need perfection. And custom ROMs are far from it. Anyway i prefer the official 2.3 Firmware

i tried MIUI, and...
Battery usage is wrongly displayed, camera app has a mind of it's own (blocks when i try to switch to front camera), no auto rotation (except browser), battery consuption is not better then overcome...
Back to overcome for me
(i have GT-P1000, GSM version, T-Mobile)
task650 rom all the way
Another vote for Overcome Kratos for me. Runs awesome!

Are ICS ROMs Good? Stable?

I'm running Gingerbread ROMs right now and hesitant to move to ICS. When are ICS ROMs good enough for daily use? I'm looking for stability and speed that is comparable to Apex and Mosaic. Prefer to use Apex right now because it's the most up to date and most stable.
You could read through the threads to see what others are saying. But I installed it on my Dads cappy a few weeks ago, and he hasn't had a single issue with it so far. Before that he was on Mosaic and was having a ton of issues. I used it for a couple of days when I put it on his phone, and it was probably the fastest, smoothest rom that I had ever run while I had the cappy. I would go for it.

Ya I'm taking a brief look, but not sure which to choose if I do move to ICS.
Basic AOSP (clean untouched googgle android) is Onecosmic's. The soon to be CM9 is team Hacksung. There is a themed modded one based of Team Hacksung's work. Wich one is more stable or not depends on the user, up to you to read and try.
I use teamhacksung's every day as my main ROM, and it works fantastically. I'm still running build 12, so there are some improvements since then, but I don't have any issues with it at all. It is significantly faster than all the other ROMS I have tried (I used to use Mosaic...). The only thing that is slightly worse is the battery life. If I use my phone a lot (more than texting...like, web browsing, youtube, etc), my phone dies before an entire day of usage. Granted, I did get my captivate the first day it came out, so there might be a hardware issue there too.
I highly recommend it. It was the best jump I have made, and it stopped me from getting the GS2. Now I can wait for the GC3

The 'best' ROM is whatever you find suits you. Best to just try a few out and make your own decision.

ROM help

I just put serendipity 6 on my buddys captivate. I don't know anything about the development for this phone so I kinda had to wing it to pick which rom to put on. He was on eclair . He loves it the new.but my question is, any reason to put serendipity 7 on it instead or any other ROM for that matter? I want to give him the best stability and battery with customization. Any help is.appreciated
I do have to say this was a fun phone to mess around with for the first time

Sorry, there is no quick answer. ROM selection is a personal preference thing.
However there is a thread on xda comparing roms battery performance. If I remember correctly serendipity was among the top. Fasty was up there too.
I'll look for the link when I get home and edit my post.
Thanks for the reply. I just want to leave him with something that it's stable and if serendipity I'd up there.my job is done.thanks man

I found the thread I had mentioned, but it's old. It has been almost a year since there were any constructive posts. It was full of squabbling, so I won't bring it back to life by posting a link to it. Too bad though, cause the guy who started it had good intentions.
Probably best to let this thread die also. Battery / performance comparison threads seem to get ugly after a while.

this phone is almost three + years old. so many ppl have moved to newer versions. those who still has this phone are moved on to ICS (Ice cream Sand-witch (4.0.4) based ROMs. ICS is fast, stable and good on battery as well.
that's why there is no action on GB based ROMS.
I am on Slim ICS and highly recommend it.
until they get the encryption unsuccessful bug worked out that is a pretty good reason to recommend staying with the gingerbread roms
i suggest you go with gingerbread because it was tested that it has a better battery performance plus the graphics drivers upgraded.
Legend 4 is the most active GB ROM with current and helpful developers still active. I run it with no problems.

I'll second that!

[Q] What stable ROM would you recommend?

I recently purchased this 8.9 tablet and extremely surprised how lacking the developer community is, i come from the desire hd and im updating my phone weekly sometimes even faster, but i came here and aokp/cm are apparently buggy and the threads are outdated with some even months old!
Im used to seeing pages go into 1000 pages, but here theres not even 6!
Anyway.... its a surprising change and im skeptical if its worth even rooting at all! Any recommendations?
All the ICS Roms pretty much have the same bugs and will, until the Official Update. I've tried all of them and they're definitely faster and more customizable than stock obviously but if you're looking for a 'fully functional' Rom, either try Overcome (which is a really good HC Rom) or stick with stock for another month or two. I went back to stock, rooted, removed the bloatware and apps that I wouldn't use and I'm pretty happy with that setup until something more stable comes along.

+1 instead of complaining be thankfull of what you have if you cant contribute to anything then just keep that to yourself because that wont help. .
Yes, definitely be thankful. Check out the gtab 7 plus community. Now that's lacking!
Anyhow I'll suggest kallt kaffe's cm9 june 8 build. The latest build I've read has some issues with the device powering itself off. All in all, I've been very impressed by kallt kaffe's cm9 build/ports!
Stock ROM is ok until ICS update. Just flash the motley's kernel, overclock it to 1.4-1.5 ghz and you will be very surprised by the speed of it. Also benchmark scores will increase significantly and touchwiz will be smooth.

Agreed. But instead of stock, I recommend Overcome 3.2.
Used HC stock rom for 2 days and it was very laggy. Went straight to the ICS ROMS which are much better. Didn't test Overcome 3.2 though. Performance between AOKP and CM9 are pretty much the same but CM9 has MUCH better batterylife. Would definitely go for CM9 which is official so you can flash nightlies all week long
