[Q] Flashing from Vodafone German 2.2 to International Ginger 2.3? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
got a Vodafone branded German samsung, with the following firmware (Froyo):
Code:
PDA: I9000BUJP7
Phone: I9000BUJP5
CSC: I9000GVD2JP5
build info 2010.10
I want to use it at Greece (locale: "el"), with official firmware if possible. Preferably, I'd also like to debrand the phone. Unfortunately I'm a complete novice here, all my experience with firmwares etc come from HTC Magic.
Which would be the "best" official Gingerbread firmware for me and how should I go about installing it? Directly? Flash first to an interim let's say firmware, like a German, but debranded one?
Any specific info will be most appreciated...

First of all:
- it doesn't matter from which firmware do you come from. As long as you flash with ODIN (there are some excellent guides here), this doesn't matter.
- what do you mean with "debrand"? Just a firmware without the provider stuff? Or do you want to unlock your phone, so you can use different sim cards?
- Regarding gingerbread, i suggest, you use the JVB - it works quite well. If you want to apply themes and lots of patches, you can try an deoxed one, otherwise (for normal use and apply of little less) get the "normal" one.
FYI: i flashed from an austrian (original) 2.1 to a english 2.2 to a german 2.2.1 to a norwegian 2.3.3 as most of the time a lot of languages are included and you don't leave the continent (use european firmwares) you should be on the save side.
Kind regards,
ww

Thank you my friend for your prompt reply.

I will look around, thank you.

The phone is already unlocked, it's the former I want to do. Specifically, I want to (a) remove all vodafone specific functionality, apps, startup logos etc and (b) have the phone better set for Greek operation. For example, even though the current firmware allows for Greek characters I can not search the phonebook fast by first character in Greek, only with the latin character

Just starting up here, so normal is the name of the game for now
You are referencing "JVB". I can only presume you are referring to I9000XWJVB? Is so:
1) Which CSC should be used. (and what is that CSC and pit etc?)
2) Does this firmware contain support for Greek? Asking this because according to samfirmware, "XW" is for "de,en,es,fr,it,pt,tr(pl)". No el (Greek) support?
Sorry again for the questions, bare with me for a little while longer please

Best i would start with JVA. I had a look here and it seems, that this is the only rom right now with greek input and swype support.
Also in this thread you will find appropriate guides.
Good luck

Thanks again for the information provided my friend, all my best wishes to you

i9000 Firmware Update Question

Hi,
I am glad I found this site, excellent source of information.
I have a question regarding updating firmware on the Samsung Galaxy S i9000.
My phone currently has firmware I9000XXJF3, looking over at samsung-firmware it seems that the latest version available is I9000XWJM2
My question is, will my phone be compatible with this firmware version? should I not go beyond the I9000XX releases? Languages don't mean much to me personally because I only use English (hopefully XW has it!)
If I do install I9000XWJM2 will the other 'tutorials' work for me as well? (the lag fix, etc)
Your help is appricated!
those XX doesn't mean anything related to the specificity of the model (i9000). In other words, yes, you can flash the new firmware without problems. In general you should make sure it's for i9000, but not in the name of the firmware, cause it's rather confusing. You should look for a thread of this firm and check it's for your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733368
Yes, tutorials still works!

Here is the version
PDA:M110S.DG14.0001
PHONE:M110S.DG07.1842.ST
TIA

Yes there is.
22.Can I flash an Asian ROM on my European device or vice versa?
Flashing should work without any problems. There are no known compatibility issues as of now. If any should arise, flashing back to Asian firmware is always possible.
Check your current ROM by dialing *#1234* to make sure you do not have a Korean variant of the phone (which is NOT compatible!).
Actually its not my concern if you read my post I've included my firmware and radio
PDA:M110S.DG14.0001
PHONE:M110S.DG07.1842.ST
It's different from all the firmware listed its from Korea so I want if I can make it to i9000JXXXX like that not this korean firmware

It's not really easy. That's why I'm asking if there are other people who try to flash on this korean version of SGS. I would love to flash this but if it gets bricked you are the one who will replace it

Now im lost, I thought you were able to confirm that your SGS is different from the one that comes from korea despite it being "Anycall" thats why I posted the quote.. altho I understand the step says Asia to Euro but the note at the end says make sure your not using a korean version of the phone, then you said that is not your concern.
The step may refer flashing an Asian FW to a Euro handset but it clearly states that you are not able to flash X FW if your handset is from Korea.
But yeah at the end of the day, its not yet possible to change the FW on a Korean based handset.
Sorry for that, I also got lost. So it solves my problem and I'm stuck with these korean firmware. Is ther a possibility of root?
As Per this site in pages 8 and above
they confirmed that they use superuse+su+busybox by using Odin3
http://forum.samdroid.net/f49/superuser-su-busybox-i9000-v-2-01-07-2010-a-1355/
Anyone can confirm?
I'm too annoyed with this different firmware
Thousands of devices have been rooted in Korea, but it's hard to find support here for the device. Do a Naver search for "갤럭시s 루팅" or go to matpclub.com
I'm at matpclub.com
lucky for me, it's hard to understand and translation is not good
Agreed, but if you can find the file that contains odin and the update.zip everything else seems fairly like every other rooting system. Unfortunately, I deleted the file and the link after I was unsuccessful getting my device into recovery mode.
Here is the link for root. But I can't download the Msuper.zip

I'm too nervous to do this since my phone got no warranty and i'm not in korea

JM5 Russian UK? Confused...

I got my Galaxy S a few days ago. It had a firmware on it which did not have the task manager on it so I knew it was old (My previous Galaxy S I had for a week which then broke and had to go back did have the task manager).
So I decided on JM5 - from the number it looks like the newest before going to 2.2 (Which I don't want to do yet). I get confused with the numbers. For each letter prefix JM, JG, JF there are different numbers. According to the list on samsung firmware all the numbers, say for JM or JG come out in the same month. Do the numbers at the end mean something different?
Anyway, so I flashed JM5 with Odin and the phone starts up in Russian, which is easy to change to English but I have a few Russian apps I think.
From what I can see here it's probably to do with the CSC file - the one in the download I got was CSC-I9000SERJM1.tar.md5
Everything else seems to run fine and I am happy with the performance. If I want an upd-to-date English (UK) stock ROM without the Russian apps etc. which should I choose?
Thanks to anyone who can advise.
Put your simcard in.
All fixed.

OXAJM1 is the UK csc... OXXJM1 is the broader european one, which also contains Greek settings, if you care about that.
SER is the Russian one (I believe it stands for Samsung Electronics Russia), that's why you get all the Russian apps etc.
Btw, the latest (non-froyo) firmware is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=763369
Yeh. Put sim card in, it auto detects lang of sim card. Nice eh?

I used the CSC in the JM2 package. Apparently you can mix and match MODEM, CSC, and CODE files.

[Q] New Tab owner - quesion about upgrading to GB

Hi Guys,
I bought a Galaxy Tab P1000N and i have Froyo2.2
I would like to update to GingerBread 2.3 at least but with all the manuals out there, i'm affraid i'll brick it.
This is the info i have:
Model number GT-P1000N
Firmware Version 2.2.1
Baseband Version P1000NUBJM2
Build number FROYO.UBJM7
Can you please point me to the right manual? if it is even possible to update it?
I tried installing the latest Kies from the EU site, but it says my version is up to date..
Thanks,
Roi
can i say if you going to update to gingerbread you should use a custom rom based on gingerbread and the OVERCOME ROM is the best so far as for the battery life is amazing and the tab will be much faster ... head to their thread and read about it and step by step will will find everything you need to know ..
Thanks!
Medoo88 - 2 questions:
1. I need to be absolutely sure that with the specs i gave above, my tab will handle this.
2, Since you're in Egypt, this question is even more relevant: Does the Gingerbread ROM have good Arabic/Hebrew support?
Thanks,
Roi
Shalom
I used this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073854&highlight=tmobile+rom and it worked for me. I used the "with bootloader" methed.
Take your time and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS...I found CF-root 3.3 at another thread and used it.
Good luck.

Did you do it on a P1000N ?
How complicated is it? (not a complete noob at ROMs, but not familiar with tabs nonetheless..)

It started life as a Tmobile Model SGH-T849. After the GB upgrade, it now shows as a GT-P1000.
I am able to make and receive telephone calls with my tmobile sim. I'm very happy with the update. I have no data plan so don't know anything about that function. Very stable and working great.
I'm very new to all this. I took my time, followed the instructions and it work just like they said it would.
Overcome doesn't have Arabic language or locale, but at least two team members are Arabic or Egyptian, so they made a patch that you apply to the Overcome rom for those languages/locale of that region.
The reason kies says you are up to date is samsung hasn't released any new roms in your country.
Any tab with a sim card can be upgraded to 2.3.3.
Get the guide from Team Overcome, read everything twice. You have a windows 7 pc available?
Remember I told you to remember JM2. You'll understand later.
Rangercaptain -
Many thanks. thats the answer i needed.
Although i need a hebrew support and not Arabic, i still think its worth upgrading to.
I'll do the Overcome team patch, and will remember JM2
Yes i have Win 7 on my PC..
[Edit]
One thing i found out on Overcome website, is this announcement:
"Overcome ROMs/Kernels will NOT work with Latin American Tabs (the P1000L/N Galaxy Tabs)/CDMA-Based Tabs (If your Tab doesn’t have a SIM card, it won’t work…sorry!)/Wi-Fi Only Tabs (P1010 models!)"
Am I in the wrong place?

How did you end up with a South American tab in Israel?
Anyway, there are big differences with your N-model, in drivers (for the tv app, and the digitizer). Read it all, and let me know if you have any questions.

Orange Israel ran out of tabs. and offered to credit me if i buy one from other vendors, so i bought from a vendor who, probably, self imported it from South America..
Thanks for the help!

What is the difference between KJ4 and KKA?

Hi I just ordered a Note from Amazon in US. I just found out there are two different models? KJ4 and KKA? Can anyone explain the difference? Thanks.

KJ4 and KKA are simply software/firmware revisions. The letters are coded for time produced, revision, etc. There is a good thread out there breaking down whats what. The higher the letter/numbers, the newer the ROM. KJ is October, KK is November. In hexadecimal, A is higher then 4, etc etc etc. So KKA is newer then KJ4 or KK1.
KJ4 = Android 2.3.5
KKA = Android 2.3.6 , FW thats improves smooth scrolling in screens.
But don´t worry : you can flash to latest release (KKA 2.3.6) StockRom very easy
using KIES or to custom Roms offered in this Forum.
After reading above replies, I do want to know: if I update to 2.3.6 (KKA), what CSC will I have? Currently i'm on the Dutch one (XEN). By flashing KKA with, for example, XEO CSC will I still be able to have Dutch language AOS?
Thanks in advance!

There are a very few roms (CHN) who only have Chinese and English as language, but most of the roms do contain al European languages, including Dutch.
