What is the difference between KJ4 and KKA? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I just ordered a Note from Amazon in US. I just found out there are two different models? KJ4 and KKA? Can anyone explain the difference? Thanks.

KJ4 and KKA are simply software/firmware revisions. The letters are coded for time produced, revision, etc. There is a good thread out there breaking down whats what. The higher the letter/numbers, the newer the ROM. KJ is October, KK is November. In hexadecimal, A is higher then 4, etc etc etc. So KKA is newer then KJ4 or KK1.

KJ4 = Android 2.3.5
KKA = Android 2.3.6 , FW thats improves smooth scrolling in screens.
But don´t worry : you can flash to latest release (KKA 2.3.6) StockRom very easy
using KIES or to custom Roms offered in this Forum.

After reading above replies, I do want to know: if I update to 2.3.6 (KKA), what CSC will I have? Currently i'm on the Dutch one (XEN). By flashing KKA with, for example, XEO CSC will I still be able to have Dutch language AOS?
Thanks in advance!

There are a very few roms (CHN) who only have Chinese and English as language, but most of the roms do contain al European languages, including Dutch.

Official JPA with XEU product CSC code?

Hi all, this is probably a strange question but from what I've read looking round the forums, a lot of people are saying JPA is a better official Froyo release than the official JPO I'm currently running on my UK unlocked and unbranded SGS. Is this correct or have a misread something?
I'm ok flashing with Odin so I was wondering if the official JPA can be used along with a XEU product code? I have looked through lots of pages and cannot find a definitive answer.
Thanks in advance
My 2c.. Froyo itself is same.. Just different codes and lang for different markets...

[Q] Flashing from Vodafone German 2.2 to International Ginger 2.3?

Hello all,
got a Vodafone branded German samsung, with the following firmware (Froyo):
Code:
PDA: I9000BUJP7
Phone: I9000BUJP5
CSC: I9000GVD2JP5
build info 2010.10
I want to use it at Greece (locale: "el"), with official firmware if possible. Preferably, I'd also like to debrand the phone. Unfortunately I'm a complete novice here, all my experience with firmwares etc come from HTC Magic.
Which would be the "best" official Gingerbread firmware for me and how should I go about installing it? Directly? Flash first to an interim let's say firmware, like a German, but debranded one?
Any specific info will be most appreciated...
First of all:
- it doesn't matter from which firmware do you come from. As long as you flash with ODIN (there are some excellent guides here), this doesn't matter.
- what do you mean with "debrand"? Just a firmware without the provider stuff? Or do you want to unlock your phone, so you can use different sim cards?
- Regarding gingerbread, i suggest, you use the JVB - it works quite well. If you want to apply themes and lots of patches, you can try an deoxed one, otherwise (for normal use and apply of little less) get the "normal" one.
FYI: i flashed from an austrian (original) 2.1 to a english 2.2 to a german 2.2.1 to a norwegian 2.3.3 as most of the time a lot of languages are included and you don't leave the continent (use european firmwares) you should be on the save side.
Kind regards,
ww
Thank you my friend for your prompt reply.

The phone is already unlocked, it's the former I want to do. Specifically, I want to (a) remove all vodafone specific functionality, apps, startup logos etc and (b) have the phone better set for Greek operation. For example, even though the current firmware allows for Greek characters I can not search the phonebook fast by first character in Greek, only with the latin character

Just starting up here, so normal is the name of the game for now
You are referencing "JVB". I can only presume you are referring to I9000XWJVB? Is so:
1) Which CSC should be used. (and what is that CSC and pit etc?)
2) Does this firmware contain support for Greek? Asking this because according to samfirmware, "XW" is for "de,en,es,fr,it,pt,tr(pl)". No el (Greek) support?
Sorry again for the questions, bare with me for a little while longer please

Thank you my friend, for your kind and thorough response,

Best i would start with JVA. I had a look here and it seems, that this is the only rom right now with greek input and swype support.
Also in this thread you will find appropriate guides.
Good luck

Thanks again for the information provided my friend, all my best wishes to you

[Q] New to Galaxy Note/Android PDA/CSC

Hi all, I've just got a few questions that I would like to have clarified.
So my basic understanding so far is that, even if I live within Australia, ICS is not dependant on the country of where I am but the origin of where the phone originated correct?
If so, then am I correct in saying that my phone is from Switzerland?
PDA: N7000XXLA6
PHONE: N7000XXLA4
CSC: N7000OXXLA1
My question is that am I able to change the origin by flashing(not sure if I'm using the term correctly) the phone to another GB rom correct..?
And then from there I would be able to update to ICS corresponding to the GB rom I flashed, eg. changed to Hong Kong GB -> Hong Kong ICS?
Thanks !
Yes you can. But its much easier to just flash the ICS version you after.

Do you mean to just wait for the Switzerland version of ICS?
No. I mean if you want for example hong kongs ICS version. You dont need to flash first hon kongs gingerbread. Just download and flash wichever ICS version you want without going through GB.
Oh I see. That makes much more sense now.
Thanks !
hey hi, im from Sri Lanka but my note is from France and they still not got it yet. i downloaded the PDA for sri lanka..
If im using Odin to flash do i need just the PDA (which i already have dowloaded for Sri Lanka region) or do i also need to find the CSC and PHONE files for it as well.. please reply soon.. i just cant wait..
thanksss

Question regarding csc

Hello guys
I have a minor noob question if you don't mind.
Been running the latest rocket rom since last night and been loving it so far. But if I check csc it says "DBT" (which I think is German since this rom is based on german ics) and not "NEE" (Nordic). Does that make any difference? I've tried changing csc to NEE, but it's not available on the list.

Different CSC will not have any issues. You wont be able to update officially if wrong csc but only if on stock rom. For custom rom may be you will not get your local languages on Sammy keyboard I guess.
Check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883000 may be it can help.

See the wiki for instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001#Flashing_in_Windows
The 1969 thing is probably because somehow the time wasn't set properly, so it probably defaulted to -1 or something like that. Let 0 be the first of January 1970 (Unix epoch as Jacol82 said) and -1 is in December 1969
