G1 Help Stuck in HBoot - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every time I turn the phone on it loads right to the hboot screen I have tried the dreaimg.nbh three times to boot back to the stock os and still giving me the hboot screen everytime I reboot. It wasn't from custom roms either thats the weird thing. I started after the phones battery went dead any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Please anyone help it's my wife's phone and she really wants it working

What is the SPL/radio, ROM, etc...? And what did you do prior of it getting stuck at HBOOT?

I don't have the specs right in front of me but it should all be stock after the dreaimg.nbh correct? I can boot in stock recovery and load the update.zip with signed rom's but still just hboot.
Sent from my HTC Magic/Dream using XDA App

OK! I am assuming you have the dreaming.nbh on the root of your SD card (if not, put it there.
Then turn off your phone (if it's on). While turning on your phone hold down camera + power. it should let you flash dreaming.nbh file, follow the instruction and wait until it's done. DO NOT pull the battery out.
Once it's finish then you can do the root instruction.

Please answer my other question, so I can assess what happens. There is not much info for me to go by.

Pull the battery and hook up to pc and rerun the drivers then try to root again. Sounds like you missed a step.
HTC EVO 003/ MISfit211 bad azz gb sense rom!

You need to do a data, cache, and delvik cache wipe 3 times each before installing a rom.

I just reply to you PM. Try running ADB and flash the SPL 13d and radio 2708 through fastboot.

Can you do that without root? And you know how to run adb with Ubuntu I never have?

I think you can, but I am not totally sure.

I will retry soon as I get home see what happens
Sent from my HTC Magic/Dream

Back home working on getting the adb/sdk running now and see if i can get it running on ubuntu to find the g1 can the phone be in fast boot to recognize it??

root?
why is everyone talking about root?
from what I read no one is trying to root it.
Now that is out of the way.
boot process
tries to load kernel from boot partition
if that fails
tries to load kernel from recovery partition
if that fails
loads hboot (edit or is it just fastboot mode with 0.95.0000? I know with 1.33.x00x it goes to a black screen with fastboot in top corner and not full hboot)
OR if camera button is depressed load hboot
from what I read you have tried to reflash the dreaimg.nbh
I would assume that if it could not write to boot or recovery it would throw some error.
So can you confirm that the camera button is in good order?
and for fastboot you need to press back once you are in hboot, fastboot from the PC should then be able to see it
But, you are not going to be able to do a great deal with that SPL

Possibly Bricked Rogers Dream

OK so i had a HTC Dream with supergingerbread or something installed with
SPL: 1.33.0013d (hboot)
RADIO: 2.22.27.08 / 28.25
It drained battery while i was doing something at 4 hours, and 12 hours on idle and only on idle.
I decided to install superfroyo 2.6 but it gave me a error ( status 7 ) on my recovery.
I thought it might have been because of the SPL and RADIO so i tried to install DeathSPL and RADIO 3.22.26.17 and the guide i was following told me to install the radio first which i did. after i finished flashing the radio my phone told me to reboot and so i did. an android with a download bar showed up and in the next 5 seconds i could boot at all, stuck at rogers screen and fastboot or recovery wont boot up.
At times tho i get passed the rogers screen but then all i get is a black screen and sometimes there bars going across the screen probably because it thinks i flipped the screen or something ( accelerometer is acting up =/.
any help would be appreciated like maybe a cheap jtag place nearby toronto thats cheap or maybe even a more dangerous/less reliable option since i have nothing to lose =/.
thank you
I know you mentioned that it won't go into fastboot (back+power). Just want to know. What happends when you hold camera+power buttons? Will it come up with the other screen?
no that doesnt work, i tried every button + power, all i found out is that the mysterious black screen comes up sometimes and if i do trackball + power, the screen goes black with a blue LED.
Here is some info I found. See if it works.
if you are willing to lose almost everything on your phone that is installed on your internal memory then...
1. Turn the G1 off. If it’s frozen on, take the battery out and put it back in the unit.
2. Hold the Home and Power keys down at same time for about 25 seconds. You will see a yellow triangle screen with exclamation point in the middle.
Now to wipe the device clean:
3. Press Alt+L.
4. Press Alt+W for a factory reset.
5. Press the Home and Back keys again for about 25 seconds.
The device should then reset again and the hard reset is complete.

@beenandroidized . I noticed that you got the same hboot and radio i was attempting to put on my g1.but now it won't boot up . Recovery and hboot still work and I know the problem is cause when i flashed the hboot it turned s-on on my g1. Do you know how to change it back to s-off ?
Sorry, I could not begin to tell you how to change it. Originally, I went I first rooted my G1 with instruction I found by googling, my G1 was at S-OFF. But after the ROM I had crashed on my and I had to reflash everything, my G1 is on S-ON. My guess it was the "Generic G1 ROM w/ Root" that I flashed at the time that changed it to S-OFF.

If you flash a radio or SPL from recovery in that the new combo is unable to boot the current recovery you get stuck in boot mode 3 unable to boot the phone, get into fastboot ect.
This is why fastboot was the recomended way to install 2708+ radio, SPL, and recovery.. it allowed for a safe way to go from any radio/eng SPL to the new stack.
I've never seen the 3.22 radios is an update.zip in the wild, but if you used one to go from a 2.22/ebi0 recovery to a 3.22/ebi1 recovery, but the ebi0 recovery still installed, you are likely now bricked.. only hope is recovery is not reconized and let's you access fastboot commands with the USB wire attatched (even if you are stuck on the splash screen)
My jtag method will repair this.. but I havn't jtagged a phone in a while and its become a boring long painful process. Not including the time for you to get the phone to me and for me to get it back to you. Its proven not worth it on my part.

[Q] HELP. Rooted Sprint Hero, recovery not working, S-ON?! RUU ERROR 170&140?!

I'm stressin now. Please help me guys. My phone won't RUU and I need to get S-OFF but I can't figure out how to do so for the life of me. I've been sitting here trying for hours and now I'm getting discouraged.

I've tried everything...well at least it feels that way. I've attempted flashing new recoveries, I've attempted RUU'ing, I've tried rerooting with desktop rooters and 1-click apk's and I'm stumped. I beg of you, Good folks here at XDA, Help me. Please.
Lets start with the simple questions:
1)why do you want to RUU/unroot?
2)what ROM and recovery and mods do you have?
3)have you tried RUU.exe or RUU.zip?
4)do you have the HTC drivers and SDK on your computer?
error 170 is USB failure, and you need the most recent drivers to fix (usually) and sprint hero is Sync 2.0.40 link here: http://www.htc.com/us/support/hero-sprint/downloads/
error 140 is phone image version failure, here's a link to fix it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843544
I recently had trouble RUUing, see this my post here

Wait, so you're rooted an want a custom ROM? (fyi you didn't really answer my Q's) Just so you know RUU and s-off is NOT needed to gain root and flash things. Does your phone boot? If so just grab the rom mangager app from the market and install clockworkmod recovery. Then go to the thread for whatever ROM you want, and follow the instructions to install it.
That's the thing though, I tried installing the clockworkmod recovery through Rom manager and through terminal and when I do it with terminal, it tells me the recovery.ing doesn't exist. I can't boot into recovery

It's the white screen with plain text and a skateboarding android. You get there by holding volume down while you power up.
Follow these instructions.

As far as not being able to RUU, some people have an issue running the RUU if they haven't ran HTC Sync. Try that and see if it works, and if not, follow this method.
HERCIMG-2.31.651.7.ZIP download it. it's the Sprint 2.31.651.7 executable but in signed zip format, for people who aren't running windows. Not sure who actually converted the executable to a signed zip, but props to you for helping those that can't run the regular RUU.
Rename the file to HERCIMG.zip and place it on the root of your SD card.
Power the phone off.
Press and hold your Volume Down button, and while still holding it press the power button to power your phone back up into HBoot mode.
HBoot should then automatically verify the zip file, and ask you if you would like
to flash it. Press your trackball (action button) to confirm the update (downgrade in this case),
or press your send button (green call button) to cancel.
Once on 651.7 you would root as normal, but you should not have to RUU back to 651.7 just to root.

So you boot into hboot directly or fastboot? It says there (maybe) press volume down to get to hboot. After you press volume down, it should automagically find the HERCIMG.zip on your sdcard and offer you to update.
I'm going out for a couple of hours so good luck.
I just had a dumb thing happen, I kept using adb to push a HERCIMG to my phone and it wasn't overwriting the old one, make sure you delete any old hercimgs on the sdcard and try adding the one linked above again.

Irrelevant sort of, but the "you have to be s-off" statement is actually true for many phones. Many phones you will end up s-off going through their rooting process. It just so happens to not be the case with the sprint hero and probably a lot of other android phones.
~maybe I set it too high...

[Q] S-Off Incredible S Stuck in the white screen with htc logo

Hi there,
I hope somebody can help me with this.
I have a htc IS S-off, rooted and running with a custom ROM (the mike1986 ROM, which is incredible!!).
Yesterday, my kid took my phone and start "playing" with it and when I´ve realized it, it was to late... He had entered into the recovery (Clockworkmod v3.0.2.6) and deleted some important/ sensitive data (i guess).
The situation is that, now, the phone doesn´t start working. It just stucks in the white screen with the HTC logo.I´m able to enter into the Hboot and, which is more strange, into the Clockworkmod recovery but when I reboot the system it just doesn´t start.
I´ve tried to reflash that ROM and other ROMS, but the result is always the same (Which gives me to the conclusion, speaking from my absolutely ignorance, that it shoudn´t be a ROM problem...).
I´ve also tried to make a "Factory reset", but the result is the same.
Important: When I enter into the recovery, it appears different lines of tex2t informing that: "E: can´t mount cache/ recovery/ command, log & last log. I´ve also browsed in the "advance" options of the recovery, and the system appears always unmount, and it doesn´t allow me to mount it (I don´t know if this is important or not).
Does somebody have an idea about how to fix this problem?
I would really appreciate if somebody could help me with it.
Thank you in advance!
Go to the mounts and storage menu ... format everything except your sdcard and flash mike's rom again ... see if it pops out an error ... should be fixed now ... temme if the recovery says anything wierd ...
Sent from my Incredible S using XDA App
If things dont work out ... here is a last hope-
*take the rom.zip from a RUU
*rename it to PG32DIAG.zip
*mount your sdcard to your pc in CWM recovery from the mounts and storage menu
*paste the zip unto your sdcards root folder
*reboot into bootloader and it will ask you if you want to update ...this will revert to stock and you can start the whole rooting process etc again
Also if you are alpharevx soff ... you will need a goldcard ... but not if your are xtc soff

You cannot install CWM without S-OFF. What else have you done to get your phone in the state it is in.
I have a dincs in the same state. It's stuck in a boot loop and won't do anything. Spent 20 hours trying to fix it and still no luck

On a side note. If he can not do anything with his phone being s-on could he not just wait till later this month and s-off through HTC since that will be an available service very soon?

[Q] HTC Vivid - I Think I Soft Bricked the Phone. Any Help?

I don't understand what happened. One night I was listening to music and the phone went dead so instead of putting it on the charger, I let it sit. The next morning I went to charge it and wouldn't turn on.
I know the phone isn't hard bricked because occasionally the backlight will turn on, but no bootanimation or full power on. I rooted the phone about two weeks before this happened. Now when I plug it in the computer, it tries to install drivers (QHSUSB_DLOAD).
If anyone can help, please do; I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
I believe it may be soft bricked based on what you said. You have to have certain tools to fix it which means sending it in to HTC to have it repaired. So you are not able to get in to hboot at all?
Not at all
I can't do anything to the phone. The only thing it does is light up occasionally. If I were able to get into HBOOT I would know how to fix. I have gotten the phone stuck in a bootloop before and fixed it with no problem. I might be taking the phone to the store tomorrow to see about getting a new one but I wish I could just fix it myself.

Thought I remembered reading about this.
It's in emergency download mode..not a good sign but still likely fixable..but, not with anything available to us atm. I read another thread a while back where another vivid owner was stuck where u are..and so far as I know, no solutions found yet for him..but from what I was reading that mode is a failsafe from Qualcomm which - with the right software - should allow someone to flash the phone with working software.. I dunno..if you're not a programmer be very careful because one wrong move in qhusb_dload and you could perma-brick it for real. Good luck man.

Thanks
Thank you guys, I'm gonna try to fix this, do some research to try to find a software to flash it. I really appreciate the help
FIXED!!!
I managed to fix my phone. After I got it into the bootloader, I just put PH37IMG (or something like that) onto the sd card and ran fastboot to flash that. Now I got my phone running smooth again.
Once again, thanks for your help.
And can you tell us what you did to get into zhe bootloader?
I'm curious too..how did u get back to bootloader?

He pbly had what's called a blind bootloader. Sometimes when a flash goes wrong your bootloader is there and working but it won't show on the screen. So you just press the buttons to boot into hboot and even though you can't see it its there and working.

What's the secret?
I got the same problem. Can you tell me how to fix it? Thank in advance.
similar issue
So I had a similar issue where my phone went dead (battery died) and when I went to plug it in, it wouldn't charge (the backlight would stay on for 4 seconds and go out). It would never try and install drivers, it actually wouldn't do anything. I have been unlocked and rooted for some time now and haven't tried putting any ROM's on it yet. So this wasn't a matter of a bad flash or anything.
Long story short, I was able to get it into hBoot but now I can't get into recovery and when I try and boot up, it gets stuck on the boot animation. I've tried loading PH39IMG.zip files, even pushing recovery files onto it using fastboot commands and nothing. I have the Rogers Raider and I can't find any RUU files for it. Even then, I wouldn't know how to install the original RUU without being able to get into recovery. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Hey sorry I haven't been on here in forever. But when everything went wrong I just kept trying to get into bootloader and after many attempts I finally got it to work. There was nothing special about it no secrets

Run the RUU from fastboot, not recovery.

Thanks

So instead of "fastboot flash..." I type "fastboot run <insert .exe file here>"?
Not quite sure how to run the RUU from fastboot (or what the commands are in fastboot for that matter).

What he means is lock your bootloader before running the ruu put your phone in fastboot USB mode hook it up to your computer run the ruu.exe file on your computer and it will return your phone to out of the box stock

I've tried to re-lock the bootloader but it won't re-lock. whenever the phone needs to be rebooted, it'll just get stuck on the HTC logo screen. I've tried running the RUU but again, when it reboots the same thing happens, stuck on logo.

Automatically install ROM from sd card? last effort

So my raider is basically bricked and my last effort to fix it, is i have the RUU but it wont install, so i extracted the rom file and put it on my sd card
is there a special name i can give it so it automatically installs? similar to PH39.zip
any ideas or can I flash an entire rom through fastboot?
If u have cwm / wcx recovery, try using them to install Rom.

You can't install straight from the rom.zip extracted from the RUU. If the RUU is failing, and is in fact for your device, then it's most likely because you did not re-lock your bootloader before running the RUU. Do you already have 1 form of recovery installed?

Im having the exact problem, ruu keeps failing at 34% I relocked before updating and I've tried the put in zip in the sdcard but my phone is stuck on the htc vivid logo with 4 triangles cant access bootloader...I thing I did yesterday was run the control bear appication on my windows computer and is the only thing that gets it out of the htc logo but then it shows like is loading with the white htc screen but then gets back to the black screen

are you saying that u extracted the rom zip? that isnt the way to do it unless the rom zip comes in another zip file just put the rom.zip on your sd card and use recovery to flash it ...but dont forget to flash the boot img for that rom in fastboot usb or you will get the white htc screen and the boot loops that just keeps going over and over to the white htc screen
by bricked what do you mean??can you access the hboot menu?
or is your phone totally unresponsive and wont turn on?

try and redownload the ruu and then rerun it..might be a bad dl of the ruu
that 4 triangles is the htc dl mode and you need to run the ruu since you already started to run it
