Hi All, After flashing(CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1.tar) my phone Galaxy S GT-i9000 I am faced with a really annoying problem.
Now it seems like all of the apps that have settings that should be retained once set, are no. Every time a reboot happens, I have to go to all of those and put new settings..:-(
Its really annoying can some one shed some light why and hows?
Thanks
corrupted file is probably main cause.
make a backup using Titanium or something similar. do a factory reset in recovery and also wipe cache , dalvik cache , datadata
reboot and restore

So when switching between themes, what is the best method to do so?
I feel like sometimes I have to reflash the rom that I was running. I also read on here that wiping fixes stuff, but I'm not quite sure what is the best way to clean off any changes other than flashing a rom that wipes the /system.
Buy titanium back up, back up all of your apps with it. Wipe dalvik cache from recovery, wipe cache partition, fix permissions, flash theme. If it gives you trouble then you factory reset, repeat above steps, restore apps via titanium backup. No issues.
Have been using JB ROM from Elitemovil for two months now and noticed that the phone is now slower than before.
Can I just delete the Cache and Dalvik cache from CWM recovery and count that all things and programs will work fine after I restart the phone?
And - BTW, can both cache's be deleted anytime without any future problems with installed programs or any other setting?
Will these cachees be automatically rebuild during boot process?

Dalvik cache is associate with the booting of the phone... deleting it will generally not affect the performance of the phone and nor will it cause any problems with the installed apps and settings...
Deleting cache may improve the performance of the apps whose cache will be cleared.. Don't think that it'll make any major difference though..
Dalvik cache is rebuilt when you power on your phone after clearing dalvik cache.. the other cache is built as you use your applications.
that and a factory reset speed up my phone

What the hell is wrong with you?! Every time I open a topic in this section you advise people to wipe their phones. That's not what "help" means. Looks like you're a little post farmer...

hi i just updated my phone to Indian firmware. but i find it to be very slow and laggy as compared to gb. I've read that doing factory reset and erasing cache will make the phone faster, but as i don't want to lose my data and
get no results. i really want to know is that erasing cache make phone any faster? also how to erase caches. I would also like instructions on how to do that. and should i flash any other kernel, as im ready to root my phone?
It is recommended to factory reset and clear cache if you're coming from gb as gb to jb is quite a big update. It will clear things up for clean installation. You can do this by:
1) Switch off your phone.
2) Enter recovery mode by pressing power+home+vol up.
3) Navigate to factory reset/wipe data. Clear it. Press power button to select.
4) Navigate to wipe cache partition. Clear it.
5) Reboot. Done.
This will not delete all pic/music/vid you have either on ext or internal. It will clear all apps, contacts and messages. Export contacts to ext sd before wiping. For messages, you can backup using sms backup & restore app on GPlay. Just install back the app after wipe to restore.
Hope this helps.

For rooting and Installing custom kernel, Look at the JB guide thread By Maniac.shri which has links to all tutorials. You can find it on the general thread
Hello, I've been trying the hard reset function on the Samsung Galaxy S i9000 but it simply doesn't work fully.
After pressing VOLUME UP + HOME button along with the POWER button, and going to the recovery menu, I select the 'factory reset' option and it says it was 'succesful', even though it was fairly quick, around 5 seconds maximum. I also did the 'wipe cache' option and the 'format internal SD card' option, once again, it says 'successful' each time, but once I turn it on and finish the setup (language, network etc.) and then I head over to settings, it still has my Google account linked and it even remembers my wireless routers password? It also has a few apps left in there.
Keep in mind, I removed my sim card and SD card before rebooting after the factory reset, I still haven't stuck those back in so I can make sure I get a full factory reset.
How can I do a HARD reset, which removes EVERYTHING. So it's kind of like taking out of the box for the first time ever?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Have you tried wiping / formatting the SD and USB Storage in Settings
In recovery make sure you do the 4 wipe process (data/factory , partition , dalvik and battery)
Before installing any new Rom

Hello, and thanks for replying.
I'm not trying to install a new ROM, I'm just trying to wipe the whole phone because the phone has been freezing alot.
I have wiped out the internal SD as mentioned above, but for some reason, after I hard reset the phone and turn it back on, in the set up part, my WI-FI password is already there, and so is my Google account/password? Along with a few apps (and the memory card was removed the whole time).. that can't be right?
Sometimes a Hard Reset doesnt resolve the issue thats why we do the full wipe process in Recovery
Along with Unmounting USB and SD and formatting them both in Settings
In settings just Forget Network on your Wireless connection
In Accounts just remove account for your Google Account with menu
What Rom / firmware are you using
can u gives us ur cwn version n hav wipe dalvik?
btw, no juz wiping, fixing permission also can help a lot.
if u say some app still there after formatting, try to disable sync or remove account using gsetting first. then try to factory reset again with wipe cache partition n dalvik cache, manually wipe datadata and data on mount & storage n try to reboot again, and may i ask u what firmware or custom rom r u using?
and sometimes, taking battery out n press power button for 1 minute n release it n put back battery n reboot help resolve many problem occur on i9000

Could use some input...
I have lost push notifications for words with friends after clean flashing AOSiP rc7 and restoring apps using titanium. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get them back... I've done it all, clear cache, clear data, uninstalled, reinstall, wipe cache /dalvik reboot... You name it.
This isn't likely to be rom specific, as this happened once before (I usually just download from the play store after a clean install but tried to cut corners). Also, it seems to persist across clean installs. The only way that I've found so far is to format and reflash stock first. So I think that it's some token file stored somewhere on internal storage that is messing this up... Any ideas?
