Guys can we please have someone work on Root for this SBF.
This is the best one yet and it improves the phone drastically in comparison to the stock Bell sbf.

Have you guys tried the process for 1.5.2 root?
which was just to have preserve root when you upgrade?
well.. you probably can't now .. since there hasn't been a Bell SBF..
:T anyone willing to try it and won't mind having the chance to lose root I say try it.

i'm pretty sure this was mentioned in another thread and was debunked as an option - either someone tried it or had a pretty ironclad reason for which it definitely WOULDN'T work
... i can't fully remember
I thought someone managed to root this with superoneclick.

I posted it. Again I'm not 100% sure on this, but I don't think this method will work. The retain root on ATT atrix works because we are UPDATING the firmware through the official ATT channel, nothing is being deleted or changed at all except for the update. This allows us to move the SU application, update, then move the SU application back in so it works (that's an elementary understanding).
An SBF is different. It clears all of the system memory, including all apps. So not only can you not move SU and move it back, but SU is deleted altogether when the SBF is flashed. This is why you have to flash to 1.26, run root, run beforeupdate, upgrade to 1.57, run afterupdate in order to get root. We don't have a way to root 1.57, merely a way to retain root while upgrading.
EDIT: And this post has just been proven obsolete by Ririal in another thread. It looks like there is a new root method, that works on 1.57. I'm sure someone could try this out on the new SBF

Right, ok then. You see so many idiotic questions posted on various forums, it's hard to discern if you're looking at another of those.
Maybe you should have mentioned that you've already tried the obvious way. Also, 'didn't work' is kind of devoid of information. Did you get an error message? FC? No Reaction? Success message, but no effect?

Guys, I have the same problem. I used z4root to root my UK Tab. It took about 5 minutes to do the job the first time. Everything worked fine I guess. It installed Superuser and I managed to run the application that needed rooting.
The problem is when I try to unroot, I don't have the "unroot" button on the screen. I am on XXJK5 baseband.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thx!

I have 1.3.0 which roots and un-roots fine on XXJK5
Terminal:
su
mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/block/stl9 /system
rm /system/bin/busybox (Not very useful without root, but some functionality still handy, so up to you)
rm /system/bin/su
exit
Uninstall the Superuser app.
Reboot.
Can't imagine why you'd want to do this unless you're taking it back to the shop.

when ur Tab is rooted, will Samsung allow to update it?
I mean, can they 'see' that and deny any update?

Since when have Samsung issued an update OTA? Everything update they've released has been via SamFirmware for us to update themselves.
But as a general answer, custom roms won't get the popup saying an update is available. But if you do get one, don't do it.

Using SuperOneClick v1.7 on my Tab. Rooted it in USB mode. Also able to unRoot easily in USB mode. Very simple and without any issue.
I will try myself to unroot it simply because a game (Jewels HD for Galaxy Tab) does not work on rooted devices. It provides a message when trying to open it...
And honestly, for an average user, rooting the device doesn't add much in my opinion (perhaps it is just that I didn't see the benefits yet, except for having Titanium to delete everything or extended backup options).

lmao.
I know these are old posts but since somebody decided to bump this topic anyway I would just like to say to the OP if he hasnt killed himself by licking a live wire.. You sir are a prize ahole/n00b.
Even a logical person reading your initial post would have assumed you was a idiot who didnt even try to unroot with z4root. Nowhere did you mention you had tried, infact teh way you said it sounded like you didnt even know that you could unroot with z4root.
This is why "n00bs" is a bad name, not because its somebody trying to learn but because of ahole's who are lazy in the way they ask and then get pissed because somebody replies in a non-expected way.
I do not have a Droid 3 yet, But I am considering it. What came to mind was the fact that root is not established yet, as far as I know. This makes me want to take a run at it, they were the best days when I use to work on the hack for Droid X.
But before I start playing around with a new device, I was wondering if anyone has tried this? And also I am wondering what other apps and methods have been attempted?
http://www.techofweb.com/technology/root-android-gingerbread-gingerbreak.html
Gingerbreak tried and failed
Z4Root tried and failed
Superoneclick tried and failed
Doroot tried and failed
that is just what I tried and I am no "pro rooter" like some others.
To my knowledge, no 2.3.4 device has been fully rooted yet (for the exception of the nexus).
I could be wrong, though. Completely, totally wrong.
But nothing out there can get us root. That im sure of.

This release has no relationship to the Droid 3 getting root sooner or later unfortunately. This is updating Froyo to Gingerbread (and 2.3.3 at that) and since Froyo was easily rootable, they used a rooted device to pull the update that was OTA and then rooted the update. Rooted devices with custom recoveries (which the froyo based DX2 had) can install unsigned .zip files....so you can install the rooted "update.zip" and have Gingerbread with root.
None of this applies to the Droid 3 because we started at Gingerbread (and 2.3.4 too which is even more difficult to root) and no custom recoveries (because root will have to happen first).
Sounds like fun and challenging!

No, this is with the bootloader still locked and 2.3.4 already installed. Here's the full discussion. Second post is the method from the wiki. I already asked if the original creator of the exploit was on the thread and could say whether we would be able to use the same method with the D3.

I'm guessing you meant couldn't say.
What we need is a list of bootloader verisions and exactly what is being installed here with this update. Our bootloader is 0A.03 I don't know what the atrix is.
I also don't know exactly what its being overwritten here... how or how make copys of the things being replaced. *sigh*
any chance we coudl use a program like RDlite or backup our bootloader before we go ahead and write all over it... ?
this is close guys... 2.3.4 has been rooted on its own and now its just a matter of time before it makes it s way to us!
- faylix / local
I took a look at the file and it's very possible something similar could be devised for the D3, but we need the SBF file so that the preinstall partition can be pulled from it to use.
The Atrix devs have all of those files and tools available to them already, which is why they were able to create this kind of exploit.
If we had SBFs and an engineering device available to us this would have all been done very quickly on the D3 too. Unfortunately, so far we don't have either.

So I am a new person and therefor can not post this in the development thread under the forum where I feel it would belong with the other root related questions.... So i followed the SUPER GUIDE to root my phone (Thank you so much Slapshot and PirateGhost, I was beginning to regret not getting a skyrocket until I found your thread). My super user is running into an issue I can not seem to fix.....
Maybe this is simple or maybe I really messed something up....
Basically none of my apps have root anymore (they did at one point and to my knowledge I change nothing...)
When I go to the Super User app to update my binaries and hopefully get any issues resolved I am greeted by the following error message in the update log: "Failed to find currently installed SU binary. Update cannot continue"
Is there a resolution for this? I have not found anyone even running into the same issue on the Vivid.....
A little nervous.... I didnt have near this many issues rooting my ATRIX and modding the living daylights out of that.
Have you checked with Root Checker Basic to see if you even have Root? If you didn't follow the Super Guide step by step your phone could have relocked after you turned your phone off/on.
If it still fails to update you could try SuperUser Update Fixer.
Yes I have check with root checker.
This may be a dumb question but how do I uninstall Superuser? When I go to the typical application management it does not give me the option. I have done an install again to overwrite the files and nothing changed there.
I followed the instructions step by step (though obviously I messed up somewhere...)

Interesting... maybe your root didn't stick. We had a little trouble with that before but pirateghost fixed the CWM ROOT zip. You have a working CWM Recovery, correct?
In the superguide, I have a second option for root in case the first doesn't work. In your case, go ahead and try the second option. The one involving the supertool. That should get you perm root. If that doesn't even work, then we might have to put you back to stock and go at it again.
EDIT: BEFORE TRYING THE SUPERTOOL, try flashing the new CWM ROOT VER2 zip from CWM recovery and see if root sticks.
Slapshot, thank you for checking the General Thread, I really do appreciate that. I have tried both methods multiple times since the root failure seeing as so many people said they had to run the methods multiple times to make them stick (this admittedly may be part of the issue). The most recent one has been the CWM ROOT VER2. Still no dice. Is there a method to remove and re install super user? Or am I reading into the error too literally and instead I just basically do not have root.

Yes the device still says unlocked. That was one of the first things I checked... Haha....
As I said ive flashed the rooted CWM and it says it went over successfully.
If i use the Zerg exploit it still seems to go over successfully (I realize this has a tenancy to mess with internal storage and only provide a temp root but i do not even get that temp root).
How would I unroot my device? Do you mean flash to stock and relock my boot loader?
As I said I have flashed several devices in the past (Atrix, eee pad transformer, HTC Inspire, HTC DINC, SAMSUNG GALAXY S T-Mobile) but I am not completely up to date on all of the technical terms...

My question is will this recovery method work for Bell Canada users, or will it only function for Verizon users?
I've installed AOKP a few months back, and while I enjoy it, I've lost support for some key features; namely HDMI, which is disappointing. When I tried recovering to the stock rom to hold me over until some new features and revisions show up on the mod scene, I found out my system backup was corrupt.
I have found a few downloads to system images, however every one I have found link to files that are now taken down. Can someone upload a current system dump?
I can set you up when I get home later

No, you have to completely reflash your device and will have to re-root it. I think you should give it a go though
You'll need to download RSD Lite and download the XT860 Bell SBF files (they are about 500mb to download). Also make sure you FULLY CHARGE your phone, just in case you run into any issues. I think you can find an SBF how-to doc in the development forums. Please keep us posted.
Are you on Verizon? Because if you and this works, you probably won't be able to use it with them anymore.
Nope, I am on PCMobile without a data plan, use wifi.
I think maybe I'll try a Rom first.
I've been following the guide here to flash Jelly Bean onto my Atrix HD, so I could next flash the Batakang ROM as the guide recommends. I got Jelly Bean onto the device, but after I install Safestrap and try to open it, it immediately displays "Unforuntately, Safestrap has stopped working" and closes itself. I think I installed the right version (the one for Razr HD, tried both 3.04 and 3.05. I think it works with the Atrix HD as well). Voodoo OTA shows that all checkboxes under Status are checked, so I don't think it's a root issue.
I did a search for Safestrap and I didn't really see anything related to my problem. I'm kinda at a loss here. Maybe I got a bad flash and need to redo everything?

I can get into recovery on boot, but no matter what I do the app won't open. SuperSU/binary seems to be up to date. Any ideas?

I doubt you're having the same issue, because you have a completely different phone than the one contained within this thread. You posted your question in the forum for the Motorola Atrix HD.
Seeing as this is your first post, I will simply refer you to here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon
Good luck over there.

Sorry, I didn't think this sounded like a device-specific issue, and this was the only thread anywhere that seemed to address it. But anyway thanks for showing me the ropes . I ended up fixing it by changing SELinux from enforcing to permissive (I had done this to install Safestrap, but then it reverted back). Problem solved!

Right, but you also should have noticed that the last post was back in December 2012. That's because the Atrix HD later had its bootloader unlocked, thus negating the need for anything Safestrap related on this phone. So if you really needed help, it's unlikely that anyone here would be able to help you, because no one is using Safestrap anymore. Which is why I was trying to steer you towards someone that could actually help.
Just another reason to use the correct forum. Otherwise, glad you figured it out.
I know this may be the wrong section.. But do u by any chance still have the safestrap apk because all of the downloads are bad now and I can't find one anywhere on the internet . I really need it.. My computer quit working so I can't unlock the bootloader right now.. I just need an easy recovery because I want to use xposed but I need recovery in case anything goes wrong. Any help will be appreciated
