I got the newest radio version for the XDA official post, and I tries to flash it in clockwork and Amon Ra. I always get signature failed errors. Can any help me on how to install this new radio version (5.12) Also, I am on 5.08 as of now, Should I upgrade anyways?
you probably have a corrupted download?

Don't think so, I tried the direct download and some mirrors and all give no luck. Other people posted of this problem on that thread, but no solution has been found...
I found better signal with the 5.08 radio with Geo411m stock rooted rom than using the 5.12 radio. I believe it's due to the area you are in.
use fastboot... Safer anyways...
You need to flash using aman ra and disable signature verification. Make sure to check the md5 before flashing. Newer clockwork mod doesn't support the older scripting of the 5.12 radio.zip
Just use 5.08.

I would NEVER turn off signature verification when flashing radio.
That's just asking for it.

How, then, are you going to flash a radio in recovery? Google has never released a radio zip file, so any radio zip files you see floating around are not from Google, and will not flash with signature verification on...

And I tried applying the latest sprint update and I ran into issues. It said that the verification process failed. My phone is bricked or anything but how do I apply the update on this ROM?
Thank you
I think I might know why your downloads are classified as corrupt.
If you used Regaw's root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572 towards the bottom there is a section called
"DISABLE OTA UPDATES!!!!"

After doing this, the OTA updates WILL still download, BUT they will not pass signature checks to flash because of the code you just entered.

you just need to undo it by using mv to rename the file otacerts file back to the original name

Did you download it over the air, or did you download the OTA zip from here at xda? If it failed installing OTA then you either got a corrupt DL from sprint or you have deleted of the apps the the update patches (for example if you removed HtcNaviPanel.apk because you don't use it, the update will fail because part of the update is to patch the navipanel.
If it failed trying to flash it from an OTC zip posted on xda, it could be any of the above OR you may need to resign the zip. I had to manually resign the zip with testkeys before RA amon 1.6.2 would let me flash it.
Just a quick question,
I did some searching around the forum and I didn't have any luck so maybe I wasn't searching the correct build or maybe there was a link I missed. I'm just wondering if there is an untouched version of FRG83D available for flashing?
Thanks.

You can extract the stock image for FRG83 from here: http://dl4.htc.com/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/signed-passion-img-FRG83_0923.zip and then apply the FRG83D update from here http://android.clients.google.com/p...signed-passion-FRG83D-from-FRG83.ecb21b75.zip (via recovery)
You are just trying to get stock FRG83D, right?
If you just want the update...
Kaiba provide the FRG83 to FRG83D update zip. If you're on FRG83, just rename to update.zip, place on root of card, and flash via recovery.
If you're on any other ROM, follow the unroot/restore guide in the wiki...

Tried that.
I am on stock FRG83 using Amon_RA 1.7.0.1 and getting
E: No signature (177 files)
E: Verification Failed
when trying to flash.
(downloaded from the two links above getting the same file and the same results)
Ideas?
Thanks..

My phone is rooted.
The original poster's question, and my question too, is how do we upgrade a stock, rooted, but otherwise untouched (e.g. not deodexed) N1 from FRG83 to FRG83D.

Agreed. I'm not looking to flash a "stock" rom. Just upgrade my stock FRG83 to 83D.
You need to be using Amon_RA 1.8 or higher (or the latest ClockworkMod) to flash a Google-signed updated. Any earlier version and you will get a signature verification fail.
Download the FRG83->FRG83D stock update.
Install Amon_RA's 2.0.0 recovery.
Turn off signature verification in the recovery.
Flash the stock update.
You might not retain root. If you're unrooted - reboot to recovery and flash superboot. If you lose the recovery too - then root again using SuperOneClick or whatever.
Thread of 2 pages... Can't believe it.
Thanks efrant, Jack_R1.
Will try soon.

Where were you till now? ;-)
All done. Now on FRG83D.
Lost root, lost recovery + had to get rid of /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Wasn't too bad, but a full stock rooted rom would be easier.
Thanks again..
Yeah I lost Wifi so its alright.. jk.

I thought it was odd how there was no clear answer till you came.
I did what you said, i have Amon's 2.0 recovery installed, disabled verification, and tried to flash the zip. I got a Status 7 error, assert failed: apply_patch_check
I also got errors with Amon-Ra 1.8.0 installed.
FRG83 produced errors because i deletet some stock apps like browser.apk. I found here a modified update.zip and could update.
This time with the org. FRG83D update.zip i get the same error. But i cant find a modified zip here....
Can someone help or missed i a thread with the modified zip?

Are you running a stock ROM? Is it deodexed? Did you delete any apps? If you are trying to flash the original signed update, for it to flash, you need to be running a stock, odexed ROM with all the original apps still present.
I have a rooted, with Z4root, Captivate with Froyo 2.2. I'm trying to flash a ROM using ROM Manager. I download the ROM, I DONT unzip it, put it on my SD card, then I use ROM manager to install it. The phone reboots into recovery, I select 're-install packages' and it does a little something and it says: "E:signature verification failed Installation aborted."
What now?

I want to know the architecture of the files in the phone so i can better understand what im doing so i dont mess up. If someone can give me a step my step of clockwork mod i would greatly appreciate it...specifically:
(1) is there a way i can change / upgrade the clockwork recovery version of my phone... if so how? (check note on bottom)
(2) whats the most recent version if i decide to do so (where can i find it)?
**NOTE**: I've flashed different clockwork mod versions via Rom Manager, but when i hit boot into recovery off my current ROM, it always goes to the same version. (v2.5.1.0 Speedmod ULFK)

the version you are booting into is built into the kernel you are running. you cant update it unless you use a different kernel. the voodoo kernels run v2.5.1.3 usually

not true just like the OP said you can flash different versions through rom manager for kernels that dont have it built in. (stock kernels)
To OP if its built into the kernel you cant change it, see above.
i forget where but there is a website from the creators and they have every version available for every phone in a long list.

im sorry, but this is incorrect. you can flash a million times with rom manager, but if its built into the kernel "WHICH HIS IS" then it doesnt matter....you arent updating it unless the kernel updates it.

its a reading comprehension thing. he didnt comprehend what was said in my post OR the OP
the OP stated he was on Speedmod ULFK.....that means its baked in....that means that he cant update the version...
why is it ok for Trusselo to say I'M wrong and its not ok for me to say hes wrong?

I'm currently running:
Model Number: SGH-I897
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband version: I9000UGJK4
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #54
Build number: FireFly 2.2
this may seem like a novice question, im still trying to understand everything about my new phone;
when flashing a new ROM, through clockwork, does that include a kernel in the rom package?
in other words, if Rom ABC is running kernel #abc and i flash Rom XYZ, will the kernel change? how do i change the kernel without changing the rom?
All ROMs as far as I know include a compatible kernel and modem. Inside the ROM zip you'll find 4 folders plus the META-INF. The updates folder has the ROM (zImage) and modem.bin, which are flashed to the write-only memory. The other 3 are copied in the same structure as the zip file after fomatting (sdcard is copied without formatting).
This is probably in Q&A, but anyway. To flash only a kernel or modem, get the CWM zip of it, put it in sdcard, reboot into recovery, select zip and go. Make sure kernel and modem are based on the same hardware (i897, i9000, etc.).
And last but not least read, read, and read more. This is just info I've read many times here.
where can i check my modem version? is it the same as "baseband version"

Hey Everyone,
From my reading of posts everyone seems to recommend flashing back to stock before flashing a custom ROM.
The Captivate I obtained from Rogers already had 2.2 Froyo. Will I be able to flash a custom ROM as is (since I technically am at stock) or will I need to downgrade to 2.1 using the 2.1 Rogers ROM posted on the wiki?
Thanks in advance
No, you should be fine to flash new ROMs onto it. Just root yourself, get Rom Manager, put ClockworkMod on it, reboot into Recovery, and you're done!

DISCLAIMER: I don't know anything about the Rogers Cappy.
The US at&t Cappy running 2.2 has 3e recovery which checks signatures on a file you are trying to flash. That is why venomio recommended installing Clockwork. However, it might be easier to use Odin one click to go back to 2.1 and flash from there. Then you do not have to worry about trying to get ClockworkMod installed on 2.2 (it is not a very straightforward process).

follow all the advice in the wiki, i re-wrote it last month! read! learn! brick! and learn some more!
you have 2.2 so you have 3e recovery with signature verifacation (mentioned in wiki) that is the only extra hurdle you will have with flashing over 2.2. you will have to fix that before rom manager will be able to install clockwork. **after you have a custom rom with clockwork built into the kernel you wont need to reinstall rom manager.
