My phone tends to turn off in my pocket due to the power button being held and then, somehow, the "turn off" on the screen clicked. Is there any way to make screen lock lock the physical buttons as well? So that clicking the power button turns the screen on like it does now but holding it doesn't make the window prompt. From what I see, there's no such option in the android itself so some app maybe?
our phone have only one physical lock button but you can use some application for lock the screen by tap the application's icon such as "screen off and lock" or "lock widget"
and you can unlock by home button also.
Oh, but what I meant was not that I want to lock/unlock without using the physical lock/power button. I'd like it to sustain its funcionality apart from the "hold" action when the screen is locked. It shouldn't open the window with flight mode/turn off etc. when the phone is locked. Do the mentioned above apps let me do this?
So there's no way to change the function of the power button?
The above applications can only lock your phone by tapping the screen, but to unlock without using the power button...mabye a developer can help you so he will make a lock application wich ignores the power button when the phone is locked and you could unlock it by pushing the home button(wich is harder to pres by mistake in your pocket).
Anyway, it could be a good application for Market, I dont think that you are the only person that has this problem.

Hi fellas.
The power button of my diamond has submerged slightly, and I'm trying to use it less frequently.
I turn off my device now using G-sen and flipping it down. As for turning it back on, I have to use the power button. I've also selected "Do not lock buttons" under keylock settings. It works great, l but I only want to use the action button to wake up the device.
Other than the "lock all buttons except power button", is there a way I can "lock all butons except the power/action button" ?
Thanks!
Help.... Anyone?
yes i want to find out too!... it will be so useful if thats possible
Turn off the phone by turning it face down.
Turn on - by taking the pen out.
So you don't use the power button...

Nice one, bro...
But I hardly use the stylus...
Anyone?
You don't need to lock any buttons. If all you want is not to press any buttons accidentally in your pocket, just install Slide to Unlock (S2U2) and don't lock any buttons. That way, you can wake the phone up by any button and slide your finger on the screen to wake the device up.

Yea, I knew this would pop up.
S2U2 gives an extra step, which I don't want.
Just want to use the action button to wake the device. Thats all.
I've made my Diamond auto lock when my display gets dimmed, with:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDevic eLockEnable from 0 to 1
This is good, but I wan't to be able to lock my phone instantly.
I know I can press and hold the right phone button to lock it. But it takes about 4 seconds. Is there anyway to change this delay?
Also, is there ANOTHER way to unlock my phone again? So I DON'T have to use the touch screen? Like first pressing the round enter button and then down or left, right after?
my htc touch will not go past 'windows mobile' screen on turn on & will not turn off or do anything else, can you help
To lock the phone I just give the power button a quick press. To unlock without touching the screen just remove the stylus.
...or use this http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php . its a really neat application especially because of the minimum of hardware buttons on the diamond. I have configured it to lock the screen when i double press my "hang up/disconnect" button and switching wi-fi on/off when I longpress one of my volumebuttons...

yeah I know that program.. I've used it before but it kept crashing..
But I'll give it another try.
I know we can lock the phone by pressing the end button, which turns-off the screen and locks the phone.
The problem i have is,i want to be able to unlock the phone "only" by using touch screen, by dragging the HTC curve-bar on the lock screen. This works but the real problem is you can also unlock by pressing the Menu button twice in succession.
Is there any way to stop the unlocking via Menu button ?
I've messed around with remapping hardkey actions via this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695936
Short answer: no, you will always need some button to initially turn on the screen on before you can swipe it, and by default whatever hardkey is assigned the MENU action will also unlock the phone with a subsequent press. If you want, you could edit your heroc-keypad.kl and remove "WAKE_DROPPED" from the line
key 107 ENDCALL WAKE_DROPPED
That way pressing the end button will lock your screen but won't turn it back on, leaving you with only the menu button to turn on the screen.
the new "fresh 2.3.3" rom has that perk.
Problems with power button instant lock when using "trusted devices" feature
Im having an issue with locking my phone's screen. I have the option checked to instantly lock the phone when the power button is pressed. I need it to work this way so the phone is locked as soon as press the power button and put the phone in my pocket.
Well when i enabled the "trusted devices" feature the screen no longer locks instantly when i press the power button. This is causing my phone to come on in my pocket frequently.
I dont get it. The trusted devices feature is simply supposed to bypass my pattern lock when my Pebble Watch is connected. It is not supposed to stop the phone from locking the screen at all.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
I am having the opposite problem, but maybe I don't understand the settings. I have a pattern password on my device, I have a bluetooth usb in my desktop at home and I have it listed as a trusted device in my BT settings on the phone. When I hit the power button the screen locks but when I go to wake the device (sitting right at my computer the whole time) I get the pattern password screen. I thought it was supposed to bypass that if I set my PC as a trusted device. Any ideas?
on my older phones (xperia xz1) there was an option to disable the lockscreen at all if the device is unlocked by the smartlock. this way i only need to press the powerbutton to get to the homescreen.
was i could not find any settings or apps: anyone knows a way to disable the lockscreen while smartlock has the device unlocked?

I have a Note 9 (SM-N960F) model.
Stock Firmware, no root.
Using Nova Prime launcher.
I have Fingerprint unlock and Smart lock enabled.
If i pick my phone up from sleep (locked)
i either press/swipe down
where my Home button (not visible) should be and phone goes directly to Homescreen.
Otherwise, i use Fingerprint unlockfrom "sleep" directly to home screen.
No need to press power button.
I'm sure this is better options.?
Only if you reboot phone or randomly sometimes (it's a security measure) I have to manually unlock.
This is the exact problem
Of your phone is already unlocked you still need to swipe up. I don't want to see any lockscreens at all. Why is this even implemented this way.
What I want is being able to use the phone without any unnecessary swiping after pressing the power button. (Razer phone 2 and Sony had an option for this)

i think you misunderstood my point.
I was trying to describe my button press action.
You don't actually swipe nothing.
You don't see the lockscreen, at all.
Call it press etc,
where the home button is.
It unlocks to Desktop.
You don't see the lockscreen at all.
From device sleep,
i "press " Home button
and device goes straight to Desktop.
Fingerprint it's the same. It goes straight to the Desktop.,
( You don't see a lockscreen)
Good luck
Yeah i got it
But that's the problem: you still need to swipe up the lockscreens if you try to unlock by the power button. Unlocking via Iris or fingerprint or pressing the invisible home button world great and you skip the lockscreens completely. But after pressing the power button the is 1 more action that is needed.
On the screenshot you can see (in German) "unlocked by smart lock" after trying to unlock with the power button

dont use the power button.
use the finger print or home button in conjunction with smart lock policy.
you'll get better milage off of the power button this way.
Yeah... Don't use the power button...
No sorry not an option ^^
Is one of the reason I don't use it, and also because I don't know the effective range.
But leaving the home button enable requires to let the "screen touch sensor" active so it will inevitably consume more battery am I wrong?
Are you on Oreo or Pie?
On Pie, this works fine for me. I press the power button, it unlocks with intelligent unlock and goes directly to the home screen/last app. No swipe needed. Does the same when I press the hard press home button.
If you're on Oreo, do what bober10113 says.
I am on Pie, and I am constantly getting the lock screen where it says unlocked by smart lock, but I still have to swipe.
